“Simple, effective, and unlimited…”As racing games go, the Trackmania series has a reputation for being an all-action ride. Trackmania Turbo, the latest version of the game, is no exception. The games never take themselves too seriously and don’t become convoluted in the depths that some other driving games get lost in. Forget the details, because this game is all about the race itself. Your vehicle is simply your means of getting from A to B. The track is where the real challenge lies here.Racing through courses akin to Hot Wheels tracks, filled with loops, jumps and stunts, it is easy to appreciate the quality that Trackmania offers, despite its overarching simplicity. There are no rockets to fire or traps to set for your opponents. You don’t need to make minor tweaks to your car’s suspension or tire pressure. Instead you race against the clock, with only your reactions and raw skills to guide you. Leaving behind these traditional driving game features does not leave the game lacking in any way. If anything it is a breath of fresh air to be able to take in the tracks, the scenery and the action without worrying about what upgrade to buy after your next pay check comes in. This is racing in its purest form. What is whittled down in the details is instead forged into Trackmania Turbo’s wild courses. The game is careful not to take elements such as plausibility into consideration, opting instead to open its doors up to the realm of imagination. Whether you are racing on a preset track, a player created one or something fresh out of the Random Track Generator, you are guaranteed both challenge and entertainment. Massive loops, crazy jumps, wall rides and epic drifts are commonplace in a game which is all about the journey. If you play a Trackmania course and don’t end up either screaming or laughing, you are probably boring or doing it wrong. There are several different ways to enjoy the Trackmania experience in Trackmania Turbo. Traditional modes such as a campaign through preset tracks, online multiplayer races and a simple arcade mode are all on offer. Extremely pleasing is the wealth of local multiplayer modes available too, which include both split screen and hot seat options. If you really want to surrender to the madness, you can even grab a friend and enjoy the game’s hilariously unique Double Driver mode. This is available across almost every game variant in Trackmania Turbo, and involves attempting to race round tracks with two people in control of the same car. If you are in sync with your partner, it can be high fives all round. If not, you may lose yourself a friend or two. Either way, this mode of play is super simple but fantastic fun, and it has been set up perfectly. If the game’s unlimited replay ability as provided by the Random Track Generator isn’t enough for you, then you might opt to instead create your own courses for you and your friends to attempt. There are several levels of complexity that you can do this with in the Track Builder section of the game. The lower levels allow you to build a basic track, the scenery around which is generated for you. If you want to go all out on your project however then all of the tools are on offer in the advanced features mode. The Track Builder is the only aspect of the game I would criticise however. At the lowest level it is limited, and at the highest it is complicated and doesn’t feel hugely user friendly in its layout. It is great to have around, and with time it will almost certainly become clearer to use for any player, but it is not the most attractive feature at first sight. The Trackmania Turbo package is complimented by the series best visuals and soundtrack to date, both being exceptionally good in this game. Everything is delightfully glossy and a lot of effort has gone into making the scenery around your experience as attractive as possible. Rich textures and detailed landscapes surround the often complex tracks and it is a beautiful thing to take in. Add to that a little Monstercat in the background too, and you have all the adrenaline you need to give the game your all. Few games feel so welcoming in their aesthetics as Trackmania Turbo manages to be.Trackmania Turbo is legitimately fun for all of the family. It is simple enough for any person to immediately grasp and enjoy. It is challenging enough to offer a widespread appeal from regular gamers to newcomers to the experience. Even if you don’t enjoy the average racing game, Trackmania will almost certainly still feel bearable if not enjoyable if you give it a go. Most importantly, the vast selection of local multiplayer options make it an extremely attractive family game for a wet afternoon or quiet weekend in. Simple, effective, and unlimited in what it has to offer, Trackmania Turbo is a no brainier for anyone looking for light, exciting entertainment. The Good:A breath of fresh air which ignores the complexities of modern racing games.Every race is exciting, with courses reminiscent of epic Hot Wheels tracks. An infinite number of adrenaline-inducing tracks provides unlimited replayability.Numerous local multiplayer options make the game ideal for the whole family.Simple but effective, Trackmania can appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike.Stunning visuals and an awesome, fast-paced soundtrack compliment the action. The Bad:The Track Builder is too basic at the lowest level and too complicated at the highest.Racing game fanatics should be aware of the simplicity of Trackmania’s gameplay.

This game surprised me, usually I go for the Rally games when it comes to driving but I bought this because it was one of the few games that still supports 4 player local co-op (It's not dead yet) and it's been compared to the like of Trials HD but with cars and on a 3D plain which sounded a tad intriguing. This game is a lot of fun, single player wise you have a campaign mode which takes you through each of the 200 tracks one by one in increased difficulty to try and beat a certain time. Think of each level as an obstacle course time-trial and your job is to get gold (You could just settle for silver, it does get bloody hard!) so you play a track, fail on a certain corner, restart, fail again, until you work out the perfect way to tackle it. When doing this there will be a ghost car so you have something physically there making you like a mug.The 200 stages are split up into 4 categories:DriftRallyRollercoaster speed car (No idea)Formula 1They are the 4 vehicles used with each vehicle having 50 stages respectively. These vehicles behave completely differently to each other this becomes especially apparent when you've spent 20 minutes repeating a stage that's 30 seconds long with a drift car, finally getting the gold and moving onto the rally car which is much more nippy and those brakes can't be trusted :L Takes some getting used to. If you manage to get through the 200 levels then I believe you unlock the Black series which is the final selection of 50 levels that i'm guessing are insane, I haven't reached that yet. Probably a good thing!Multiplayer however gives you a few options, obviously you've got the standard online modes but it also strongly supports local multiplayer as mentioned earlier which is awesome. Having 4 player splitscreen on fast racing challenges to see who can be the fastest. The longer levels are split up into checkpoints so if you mess up you can press a button and restart at the last checkpoint. Because the levels are so intricate and is more down to the driving rather than throwing green shells, there are no collisions. When you catch up to your friend and your thinking "I'm throwing you ff the edge" You're gonna have a bad time, you will go right through him and look like a nutter. I understand why they've done that but you can feel helpless when someone overtakes you and they have flawless driving so there is no chance of catching up (Quite unlikely, there is a lot of room for error here). On top of that they have Double-driver mode where two people control one car and it only turns left and right if both people decide to at once, including braking and accelerating, because that won't destroy friendships! Also can be played with more people. If you're bored of those 200+ tracks then you can just make your own or have one get randomized on the spot, a little like the old Worms games where you picked the the one's with the giant bridges. So the replay value is insane, great value for money also!I think there's a little something for everyone here, whether you're a perfectionist and want to compete for the best times or just want a game to play with your friends, the initial 200 tracks are unlocked for multiplayer from the get go so you don't need to grind through the campaign Hehe. No, this game is terrific. Never played anything like it but since you'll be playing against a ghost of your best time or a gold medal, it can feel a little isolated without some good company. But hey each to their own :)Enjoy!

A great addictive game in similar vein to Trails in that it has a great collection of increasingly difficult tracks to replay and master. The tracks are short but sweet which perfectly fits the ethos of the game - that true success on each track can only really be claimed after being awarded the maximum accolade for a near perfect run. There is a track editor for user created content and a slightly bizarre co-op mode (which I haven't tried yet) that basically has two players controlling one car which moves based on the average of the inputs from the two players. It sounds a bit frustrating to me, but I'm sure it will appeal to some.I was excited for this game after having enjoyed earlier iterations years ago on the PC.My only disappointment is that the gameplay here is significantly stripped down from those older games. They were part time-trial racer, part puzzler. The puzzle aspect came from the fact that each track was only half complete and, in order to succeed, you had to efficiently place track sections, ramps and power up blocks in order to complete the track for minimum lap times ... then you had to drive around your creation as efficiently as possible to notch up the wins. The campaign for this game seems to be 100% time-trial on 100% completed tracks. I've deducted 1 star because I personally feel the gameplay is significantly diminished with the removal of the puzzle element.I know it's unfair to mark the game down for what it is not, but I draw attention to this for the sake of others who may have similar expectations having played the old games. If it had been included this would have been a no-brainer 5 star game for me.Having said that, taking the game on it's own merits this is still the most fun you're ever likely to have with a time-trial arcade racer and I can whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind replaying the 200 tracks over and over until perfection is achieved.

An arcade racing experience that's easy to pick up but hard to master. This game reminds me of Trials HD on the last gen-consoles where you're faced with hundreds of tracks to complete with each getting progressively harder and harder. The main aim of the single player campaign is to post the best times on each track. This element can get very frustrating, especially when a few tenths of second stand between you and success. If this were the game in it's entirety it'd get pretty boring fairly soon but Trackmania comes with an online mode, a "Double Driver" mode and a Track Creator system. The double driver mode is a fairly unique mechanic for a driving game as two players control the same car at the same time with two game pads. The idea being you both need to be in sync with your driving (if player one pushes left and player two right then in theory the car would go straight on).The creation mode is also great for those who like to dabble at content creation. It comes in different levels of complexity from adding simple straights, turns and loops to be being able to alter advanced elements of your tracks like slopes, gaps and twists. I found that my 5 year old was able to produce a few simple tracks of their own without issue on the basic setting. You are also able to share your created tracks with the wider online community.Trackmania Turbo is a great casual racer that reminds me of some of the old Atari / Amiga greats like Stuntcar Racer and Hard Drivin'. Anyone who enjoys casual racer titles wouldn't go far wrong in buying this game, especially at this price.

Initially I downloaded trackmania turbo as a demo off of the PlayStation store. I didn't expect too much, just the trailer caught my eye. 2 hours later I brought a physical copy of the game. There's something here for everyone, although I will admit if you are after gran turismo then you might be disappointed. Trackmania is more of a anything goes, all-out arcade trial an error affair. A game which doesn't take itself too seriously, but has many layers to it. At first glance it appears to be a simple set of a-b time trial's, as you play a bit longer you realize it's more like darksouls on 4 wheels. Seriously certain stages will take you around 1 hour to get gold, and can be very frustrating. This of course is down to your play style, I'm trying to get gold on all the tracks. Somehow I really doubt its going to happen, nearly 100 stage in and the difficulty is now getting ridiculous. On a positive note the sense of speed is immensely satisfying, especially when combined with drifting and crazy jumps! There have been points where I have found myself not being able to compute the madness which is taking place on screen. Its an all out adrenaline fueled experience that is rare in calculated and sensible games of late. There are influences of different games here.... Need for speed carbon, f-zero, wipeout, hotwheels, atv fury, burnout, micro-machines, Mario kart to name a few.Somehow it all works together to bring you a unique and addictive experience unlike anything else. Not to mention it's only £25 well.....Its got a solid thumbs up from me

I love to make my own tracks through canyons, forest, desert and rivers. The tracks here are arcade-style tracks that feel real and are fun and varied. The speed and drift control is excellent. Trackmania has been developed for years through many versions on the PC and now this is the first on Xbox and PS4. You can race online with other users and with yourself with multiplayer that allows several ghost cars from your previous runs to join you. There's no collisions with other cars which simplifies the whole game somewhat. I think that the shear crazy speeds would not be possible if you had car collisions and damage etc.Trackmania Turbo has a great trackbuilder to build your own tracks but they are not totally offroad. You can go explore miles of less-detailed mountains, etc off the trackbuilt area but without any track, signs, buildings etc. The tracks are amazingly detailed even up- close. You can build tracks in desert, beach, canyon, fields, stadium and tunnels. You are only limited by the style of car and the number of track 'blocks' in each environment, called Canyon, Valley, Lagoon and Stadium. Track blocks are assembled kinda lego-like with all tracks fitting seamlessly, looking amazingly realistic and complete. Many tracks blocks are just beautiful designs with nice sweeping curves built also for speed. I don't know why this game is not promoted more as its a classic.

Trackmania Turbo (PS4) ... purchased Sep16. My sons are 6yrs and 8yrs and in December 2015 they were upgraded from a Nintendo to a PS4. What I had not planned for was the significantly more grown up nature of the PS4. The boys loved Mario Kart and the multiplayer nature which is something really missing on the PS4 (unless online gaming). This game is perfectly suited to them, the graphics and sounds are leagues away from Mario Kart, as its arcade action rather than simulator its a lot more forgiving which makes it more fun. The tracks are all exciting and quite far fetched and dramatic and the pace of the racing is super fast. What has been great is that each race is quite quick and between Dad and the boys we have been seeing who can complete each track the fastest. Its been fun as the first person on to a new track has to discover the turns and pitfalls and the later players then benefit from watching. As Dad had been going last this was debated as being quite an advantage so we mixed it up :-). Having only played for a couple of hours please consider this an initial review but it certainly was well enjoyed one Sunday afternoon and I will look to share more down the line.

Brilliant fun colourfull game.200 bite size tracks that you unlock in groups of ten by winning the BRONZE medals at the beginning then SILVER and GOLD for later harder tracks. This game is all about bettering your time and leaderboards. At the beginning of the game you choose your Country of origin as usual but the selections narrow it down to where I live in South East England. After each race it gives my World,United Kindom,England then South east ranking. Most races so far last about a minute and can be frustrating but in a good way as its one of those 'one more go'games. You can play two player split screen, each with a controller but controlling the same car!.That should be interesting lol.Thereis also a track editor that I have briefly tried and seems quite simple to do.Only one moan about the game.On insering the disc each time it takes two to three minutes to load. There are no problems once you start playing, only the start up.All in all a very good game with plenty of replay value. Enjoy

This has to be one of the most addictive games I have ever played. I was a bit wary about buying the game as I had read a couple of reviews and found that it wasn't really a racing game where you raced against other cars but instead was a series of time trails. I was a little disappointed as I like to race against other cars but due to the fact that arcade racing games on the PS4 are pretty much non-existant I decided to give it a go, and now I am addicted, the game is incredible. So as I mentioned the game is basically a series of time trails, the tracks start pretty easy then as you progress they become incredibly difficult, the game is just so much fun though even when the tracks do get really difficult you just want to keep playing to shave a few hundredths of a second of your time.If you are after something completely different from a racing game then this is perfect, there are tons of tracks, the graphics are really nice and it's incredibly addictive. Highly recommended.

Great game. Fantastic graphics. As someone who gets bored of the same type of tracks on racing games like Forza where there are no hills etc, after seeing that this game let's you go in all sorts of directions with not many limits. A good selection of tracks with good variety. The only thing i can't stand about the game is the fact that once you take the slightest wrong turn or crash a little bit you have to restart the track. So once you get to around track #100 on the campaign you have to absolutely nail every turn with 0 mistakes or you will be stuck with the bronze medal. I wish your car could recover from crashing a bit more as once it spins out there's no way to get the car level you just have to accept the crash and start again.Thi game is all about fast paced racing I guess and forces you to study every part of the tracks in order to get the medal. Definitely worth playing if you want a refreshing new racing experience.

It's a good game, but in my oppinion it's best fitted for the hardcore gamer.I love racing games, but this one requires alot of pacience to master. The system in unlocking the next tracks is not the best, which means that in order to unlock the final pack of tracks you are requiring to win 190/200 gold medals which is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.This game takes a lot of practice and you are going to end abusing the restart button.Things that you might consider before buying:If you are buying this game in order to race with your buddies on split screen, just don't get it, because I don't find it satisfying at all, all you do is racing a ghost car on a very short track, you are not racing an physical car. It's true that the game is not meant for this, but take this in consideration if this is what you expect. But the positive things about this game would be:Really addictive,Lenghty,Split Screen.Hope it helps

Played the old Trackmania's (Nations, Forever etc.) on PC many years ago and always found them so addictive and this version is no exception. Looks amazing, sounds amazing and the way the music varies depending on how fast you are driving is a nice touch!Custom maps/tracks is a great addition and something which should be standard in gaming today, including first person shooters! But lots and lots of money is to be made from downloadable content so this will probably never happen unfortunatelyIts early days right now but I hope the community create some crazy tracks like there are on the PC versions! If your a petrol head and a fan of arcade racing games this is a must, especially at the lower than usual price!I am a big fan of F-Zero GX on the old Gamecube, this is the closest thing too it!

If you like challenging then this is the game for you, if however you like ramming the opposition off the track for easy wins then move along this isn't the game your looking for. The tracks already in the game are crazy, but you can also create your own with all the twists and loops you fancy your imagination is pretty much your only limitation. Or you can let the track create a course at random for you. While the vehicles can be a little twitchy it is still a very fun game. The drifting works well and you'll need to be able to drift because drift = boost. You'll also need patience, restarts are more often than not the route to great times. Youll also need a good memory as its much easier if you know the track layouts. For an over all score I'd give this game a 7/10

Bought for my 7 yr old son. Instant hit. It's a very clever mix of retro arcade gameplay and state of the arts graphics. It simply looks stunning but, whereas, most racing games that look this good fall into the simulation arena, Trackmania wants you to grab a controller and just race. My son was up and running within 5 minutes and was quickly joined by my 4 yr old daughter, both breaking my time record with ease. I am getting old...So, as a racing game on it's own, great fun. However, it then goes to another level when you start to design and build your own tracks. My son built 4 within an hour which the whole family then raced on. I came last. I've changed my mind...rubbish game!

Absolutely brilliant this game is great for all ages, I especially love the rollercoaster tracks out of this world. Breath of fresh air to racing games something new to the genre I highly recommend it, very addictive some tracks quite challenging until your familiar with the track, keeps you going back for more.. Just one more go turns in to a day of play. Graphics physics of the game spot on I would love to see a sequel. Another great feature is you can create your own tracks meaning the possibilities and replay ability are endless. Get the game you won't regret it my fav game on the Xbox one at the moment I just can't get enough I suppose I really do have TrackMania :)
