I have start my review of state of decay 2 by saying that i easily put in around 500hours into the first game on xbox one. State of decay was one of the main reasons that i purchased an xbox one. I mostly do my gaming on ps4 and nintendo switch. But for me state of decay was a system seller. Though the game had a multitude of glithces and issues, its one of my favourite games that i played to death. In my opinion its one of the best zombie survival games. The first game did have its issues nobody could argue that such as zombies appearing from out of nowhere, zombies walking through shut doors and lots of slowdown. But for an indy developer like undead labs its an extremely ambitious game. But what improvements have undead labs done to fix issues such as these in their sequel? Can the sequel live upto the lofty heights of the first game?Well as soon as you boot up the game your given a choice. You have to choose your base survivors you have around 4 to pick such as highschool friends, brother and sister, a couple in a relationship etc. Each one of these characters have pros and cons, so the game straight away adds more RPG elements that the first game lacked. After picking your character you thrust in to a tutorial stage. For me this is great as the first game just chucked you in at the deepend and you had to figure out everything yourself which was at first a little complicated. Now with this inclusion of a tutorial you learn the basics of survival. After the tutorial your given a choice of which zone you will be playing in you have a choice of three maps. Each map is very sizeable. Each map is around the same size as the first games sandbox, but now you have three big maps to play in.Now heres where i have to be honest, i made my decision and picked the first map. I played around 15 hours on this first map and i really didnt enjoy it. I found it very very hard actually surviving. I was begining to think that this sequel was utter trash. I had problems such as never being able to find resources and decent weapons. There was a serious lack of vehicles i only found one in my first play through. And i lost that car when 2 juggarnauts came out of nowhere, killed many members of my group and destroyed my one and only car. Thats one of the gripes i had there was plague and special zombies EVERYWHERE. I hated my first play through of this game. I was ready to give up.But.....i started a new game and re-discovered why i love this series. Instead of the first map i picked the 2nd one (plateau i believe its called) and am now having so much fun with this game. In My map theres plenty of resources, there are cars everywhere, plague and special zombies are still around, but not in abundance. So what are the changes/improvments from the first game.Firstly:base building has been vastly improved, there are more options such as what buildings you want to implement and how you can mod and upgrade these buildings. However, there is a noise metre, if your building too much or running your generator to keep the lights going or your workshops going you will attract hoards of zombies that will attack your base. You find mods for you buildings when exploring the world. Keeping your survivors happiness up is very challenging and takes alot of work. But is a nice addition in setting up your base and figuring out what your survivors need to keep them happy.Cars: there alot more car varities each with their pros and cons slower cars have more storage, faster cars have less. You can also mod cars by armouring them. You find these mods by exploring. Ive heard lots of complaints about cars running out of petrol. For me i love this mechanic, as you have to plan what routes you take and how far you can get on one tank of gas. Theres plenty of fuel in the world to refill vehicles. I just like the aspect of running out of fuel right in the middle of a hoard. A few times ive been out scavenging, ive got so much loot in the boot of the car and ive run out of petrol and im in the middle of a town and im trying to sneak around garages or repair shops trying to find a can of petrol so i can get my goods home. It adds to the immersion. Your fuel can run out quick however if you mod your car. A tank of gas can last a longtime.Battling the undead: combat, especially melee is so much better and satisfying. Shooting has been improved. Ground kills are nice and gory which is great and lots of different animations. Its cool to lop of arms and heads of zombies, you feel like a bada**.Regular zombies: theres a nice variety of regular zombies. They come in all shapes and sizes and you dont feel like you keep seeing the same zombie over and over. Also zombies are more manageable. The first game the zombies where everywhere. This time there are less and they are more spaced out. For this is an improvement. Your given more of a fighting chance.Special zombies: they are more of a challenge. You have your swat zombie which are easy to defeat. However jugganauts are insanely hard they take alot of punishment and to finish them off you have to jump on their backs and stab them in the head. Reaver zombies are fast and they will run you down and pounce on you. I havent come across that many bloaters so far but they are exactly like the first game.Plgue zombies: a new edition to the series, they are covered in blood and if you sustain to much damage from them you could contract the blood plague which you have to find the cure for. These zombies come from host buildings in the area. You need to be well supplied and ready to assualt these hosts. They take some serious damage to defeat them. As you attack them you will be under constant attack from plague zombies. Best to use fireworks to distract the plague zombies and then throw molotovs or grenades at the host to kill it quick.Other factions: theres alot more emphasis on other survivor groups in the world. You can become friends with them, and do quests for them which can unlock benefits. You can also become enemies with factions and have shoot outs with them over supplies or if you think they are moving in on your patch. Its great new system that they have introduced. There is also travelling traders with rare items which can help you out.The world: The world is so much more detailed. They have borrowed some of the same buildings from the first game which is ok, however its the little details that helps engross you into the world. You came across empty swimming pools with the dead pilled up or a burnt body in the back yard of a house surrounded by fuel canisters. The world feels like so much more like a zombie appocalaypse. Like i mentioned before they are bigger worlds.Story: the first game was set around a few guys coming back from a fishing trip during a full scale zombie infection. State of decay 2 seems to be set a few months or years into the future where resources are getting harder to find. The cons:The game is like the first in the aspect it is still very glitchy. Ive had numerous hard crashes which ive had turn my console off and then back on. My character has disapeared into the floor and also disapeared from screen, but they are still sustaining damage from zombies. When im driving my car and i run over a zombie, my controller goes crazy and wont stop vibrating to the point i have to get out of the car to stop the crazy vibrations. The graphics have not improved from the first game. Somethings look ugly especially fast food restaurant signs, they are just coloured blurs. Mounting ladders can be dicey, theres nothing stopping you from falling to your doom. They have removed the boarding up windows mechanic from the first game which is a little dissapointing.I would like to end with saying that i think people are giving this game some undesserved grief. Yes i agree with some people that say its glitchy. Yes...but these are easy fixes that developers can work on. Many people on the internet/youtube have lambasted this game as trash. But believe me they are wrong. This game is less than £25. There is 100s of hours of gameplay here, theres no loot boxes or micro transactions in sight. The special edition of the game comes with the first game and all the dlc, its a bargain. We all know that microsoft are struggling with first party releases especially after the disaster of sea of theives but i for one see myself playing this over the year. I know i am biased because i was a massive fan of the first game but give state of decay 2 a chance and you will find something very special here. Thanks for reading.

SoD2 is essentially an enhanced version of the original. That in itself is good as it keeps the same highly addictive scavenging and survival gameplay which really made the first one. Many other improvements are evident like the three separate maps which are far better designed than SoD1. The original's map was big enough, but many areas were just wasted or inaccessible space. Graphically it has improved too. Night time is pitch black and with limited torch light gives some tense encounters. Companions are more useful now since you have the option to switch between characters on the go which makes supply runs more practical.Gone too are the days of your guys going off and hunting freaks with a frying pan or just randomly disappearing from home.Nightmare mode has now been added to the game to fix the difficultly problems it had and has really made a big difference. The base game lacks any real sense of danger and even considering it features permadeath it plays far too safe. This is because combat is far too forgiving to all but the absolute weakest of characters. The whole point of permadeath in a game is to keep a tense atmosphere and keep the player thinking about every single move. Nightmare mode fixes most of this with a higher level of freaks and hordes, as well as lower resources. But you can still get hammered by dozens of regular zombies at once and walk away. However, the game still lacks a vital ingredient - a coherent storyline. While SoD 1 only had a loose storyline it did give some continuity and build up to the game. Here they've increased the amount of dynamic character missions, which fit in perfectly as side quests, but aren't a substitute for a solid core storyline. Likewise, the central theme of destroying the plague hearts is more of a mission goal so isn't a good substitute either. I would have liked a storyline that led into the legacy missions, as that part of the game still seems rushed and over too soon.SOD2 has massively improved since release and that just highlights how much work there really was still to do. I’m impressed and glad Undead Labs stuck with it though. I only hope we get to see a story DLC in the future and the game will finally feel complete and be the 5-star game it should be.

WOW...just WOW. Once I installed this on my Xbox one it proceeded to download a near 20 gig patch. I assume this was a new version of the game with many of the reported issues fixed. Since it downloaded, the game has been a sturdy and challenging game, and the only time I noticed slow down was when I had three NPCs accompany me on a mission , other than that , no problems. It's a challenging game and you obviously need to get used to the controls and the way the game works, but once you do, you can live your gaming life in the zombie apocalypse wreaking havoc on the undead horde to your hearts content. This is by no means a perfect game or graphically extraordinary, so, why the five star score?Simple.the game has virtually stopped me playing anything else since I started it 8 days ago. It is absorbing, compelling and challenging...but not too challenging. You know, its not Dark Souls hard, but is a comfortable challenge. Having restarted once already, my second game world is now much better and I am 22 days in and counting. If I recruit someone who doesn't play well with others or starts to moan too much, I take control of them and get them killed in a suicide run, or I let them get infected then euthanize them. You must maintain order....and I do...harshly.I really like this game, so much so I've also bought myself " 7 days to die", essentially ANOTHER zombie survival game in a fully craftable world like Minecraft.7 days to die is in fact Minecraft true zombie mode, right down to the gathering, mining and surviving.Anyway, State of Decay 2. BUY IT NOW.Both games let you play local co-op or online co-op. Enjoy.

I see all the bad reviews on this game and the frustration from people that have played it and been let down but I still really love this game! I played the first one religiously for 2months until I got bored. Yes there are a lot of bugs and the graphics could be slightly better and so could alot of the mechanics in the game but I still love playing it. There's nothing better than running around building a squad of people to survive with and look out for. The bugs can be persistent sometimes but this adds some level of excited onto the game in a way that you just never know what could happen!! (I would prefer a bug free game having said that tho)worth the money spent on it of you buy the xbox game pass.

It's possible I would have given this game a very low rating, as It was very buggy on launch - however following the latest patch everything seems to be working brilliantly (wired leaping zombie glitches have vanished). The game itself is very enjoyable. I love the open world and nonlinear gameplay. Feels like the most complete zombie apocalypse survival games on the market right now. It's one of those games you think about what you're going to do next when you're not playing it. Highly recommended for loves of survival horror.

Great game providing hours of fun! It is what you would expect, a zombie survival game and it focuses on just that: survival. Characters tire, weapons break, supplies deteriorate and accidents happen, but that's what makes the game so great! They have made it as 'realistic' as it could be for a zombie apocalypse whilst maintaining a fun game, you have to think and plan ahead because if you die, you're dead and that character is gone for good. I would recommend for anyone looking to 'survive' in a zombie apocalypse

Having encountered my fair share of bugs after testing multiple Alpha and Beta builds of games, I was surprised to see all of the negative views reporting numerous bugs for the game and yet experiencing very few. Take all of the negative reviews with a pinch of salt. This games is well worth it's reduced 'arcade' game price. I'm surprised this isn't marketed as a triple A title. As for gameplay. Imagine The Walking Dead tv show as a game. You seek supplies, you build your team and survive.

State of Decay 2, itself is very enjoyable game and fun to play with friends. I really liked the open world and nonlinear game play. It is the best complete zombie apocalypse survival games on the market right now.If you liked the first state of decay you will like this too. The games graphics are average, but game play and price makes this a worthwhile game to get. The choice of characters is a nice little touch. Highly recommended for gamers of survival horror.

The game is so good that I bought 3.Seriously. My wife, stepson and myself all play the game together (requires 3 consoles). Although the game is online, it can still be played as single player. We thoroughly enjoy this game and have played through the story a few times now. Recommend you pick builder as your leader on first playthrough so you can get free electricity and water for further communities/playthroughs.

I never played The first game, I can’t stop playing the second! I played now for 25 hours and can’t put it down. It isn’t very well optimised nor is it a great looking game but it’s one of the most engaging games I’ve plyed in ages. AI is actually competent, they all have their own characters, and I genuinely care about them. I love this game and have no idea why some people don’t. Give it a chance, you’ll love it.

Open world Zombie action, RPG, crafting adventure. Really good fun scouting out neighbourhoods and finding parts and weapons to improve your arsenal and base. I play this single player but can be played via Xbox Live in a coop way with friends. Xbox Live Gold isn’t needed for single player. Since owning it a 20gb update has been released to make the game run better. Really good value at this price.

I bought an Xbox just for this game. So far, am thoroughly enjoying it. Take with a pinch of salt, it improves on the first game, but doesn't really add much more to the mix. However, what is there in my opinion is plenty. Survive in a barren land over run with the undead. Barricade, scavenge, trade, and for added amusement, bring a friend. (Online co-op only). Recommended.

4.9.2019

The controls are clunky. They are slow as well but that's intened to add to the survival realistic feel. Overall it's a interesting survival game. Much like the first.Oh if your going to play this watch some "things I'd wish I'd know videos" cause they're are many hidden features or short cuts in the game mechanics that you'd wished you known when exploring.

1.7.2018

Fantastic game. Always lots to do and great fun for multiplayer. The map seems to be different depending on the characters you choose which is pretty cool.Downsides, the game will give you a bad head ache however if you change some real obvious settings, you'll be sorted and can olay for hours.Other than that, it's a fab game and worth the money.

As I said above the game state of decay 2 was for my grandson who commented that the game was all it said it would be he was very impressed about the price because other sources that supplied the game were more expensive than Argos. In fact he said that the next time a new game comes out that he wants. He will definitely get it from ARGOS
