The "Leifheit "Garlic-King Proline" Garlic Press, Black/Silver" is apparently designed for the smaller hand as there is some tightness and minor discomfort with larger male hands. While far bulkier than older designs that use an anvil to press the clove through relatively few holes, this uses a different concept of 'cutting by rocking' motion and a greater surface area. It is of moderate weight, feels well-made and cuts one or two garlic cloves into small pieces that accumulate within the well of the ring; those can then be scraped free with the back of a knife, spoon or something similarly suitable. There are no moving parts and nothing to break. The clove(s)does not need to be peeled as the press uses its own weight rather than applied pressure to achieve its aims. It is more effective than the older presses once used as there is less wastage. It needs a non-absorbent surface to work against as the odour can not only linger but is easily transferred to other foods. It is more expensive than most alternatives and, although less wasteful of garlic, it is not completely waste-free and can need a fairly hard brush to clean out its residues. It may be a good choice for frequent users of garlic but less justified for the more casual users.

We use a lot of garlic in our cooking and have tried many brands of garlic press over the years – however this Leifheit "Garlic-King Proline" is a different matter altogether. This Leifheit model is a different design using a different crushing principle to conventional garlic presses that are squeezed to crush the garlic – this type uses a simple press and rock method. You don't need to peel the garlic clove before pressing it, you just place it on a solid surface then you press and rock the Garlic-King Proline until the small pieces of diced garlic appear on the back of the pressing plate. This Leifheit product is nicely made from stainless steel and black plastic and can be rinsed ordishwashed after use – but at over sixteen pounds it is quite expensive compared to more traditional designs. I not convinced that this design is any better or worse than our usual press but it could be worth trying if you use a lot of garlic – it is certainly easier to clean however, and with a five year guarantee it seems built to last.

Having used the traditional design garlic press which you squeeze together with an anvil head, I was eager to see how this would compare. The traditional one is easy to use but fiddly to clean, requiring an extra plastic gizmo to clear the holes. This works like a dream. As is evident from its shape it is designed to be pressed down on the garlic clove(s) in a rocking motion which forces the garlic through the holes. There seems to be less waste with this Leifheit garlic press and I found it much easier to clean. The design is simple and it is a well made product as you would expect from a German manufacturer. In addition it has no moving parts that might break off or get stuck.I really love this design and it is immediately replacing my older traditional one.

What a handy tool! The design is wonderful as it's quite ergonomic and the rocking motion presses the garlic evenly, and quickly, and can be done with one hand. It was a concern when purchasing that it may not be strong enough or big enough for my husband's large hands, but it's a perfect fit for all hand sizes. It's really strong, and durable -- pretty impressive for an inexpensive product. It takes no strength to use, as it relies on a simple rocking motion to press the garlic. We love that it can easily cleaned in the sink, or just tossed into the dishwasher, and doesn't take up a lot of storage space in the kitchen drawer. Doesn't hurt that it's nice to look at,either -- it has a high-end look for not a lot of money.

Leifheit "Garlic-King Proline" Garlic Press, Black/SilverThe product. This is a garlic crusher from Leifheit. It works by rocking the crusher over the garlic. You can roughly crush the garlic or keep going to completely turn it to a paste.Build.The main crushing part is stainless steel and the handle solid and strong resin. It is dish washer safe.In use.It works really well and gives you the option of how textured you want it for the dish in question. It is easy to use and get the desired results.Overall.A useful crusher for garlic and other soft items in the kitchen. It is well made and should last a lifetime. My only negative comment is that it is a bit on the expensive side.

I can't quite make my mind up about this "knuckle duster" of a garlic press. I was attracted to it by the notion that it will "chop" the garlic into small cubes. But from the other reviews I have read it just seems to be a "crusher". And as most crushers are lever operated (thus reducing the power the user needs to apply) I could not see how this would work. I think that there must be a nifty technique involving rocking the press from side to side to get a cutting and chopping motion. I certainly haven't perfected it yet. But if I do end up having to just use it as a crusher I cannot see how it is going to beat my existing Zyliss garlic press.

As a very simple tool with no moving parts it is exactly as you would expect from the images - and it works well. You still have to peel the garlic, and then just squash it under the tool which 'chops' the cloves into very small pieces. I've 'chopped' one and a half bulbs in seconds, so it saves time and 'chops' to a fine consistancAs you might imagine, there is a tendency for some bits to get stuck in the holes, but tapping on the back with a knife seems to mostly sort that out. It also washes in a dishwasher with no issues. The only downside is that it takes up quite a bit of space in a kitchen cupboard.

This is extremely well made. It is sturdy and robust and I imagine it will last for years. It is easy to clean too as the grater bit is easy to access. I think I prefer a good garlic press though as I have no strength in my hands and I have to press down quite hard with this to crush the garlic; however it is much much better than my old garlic press. The handle is easy to use too and has a good grip. You just have to push down and therefore need to have quite strong hands. It is very effective though and makes an excellent job of crushing the garlic.

Great alternative to a more traditional garlic press, but a bit more difficult to use as you really have to apply some pressure and a rocking motion to get it to work. Not such an issue for me but I know that older reletives would struggle. Not sure I agree with the statement that this cuts rather than presses, but does the job well regardless.Very easy to clean, uses more of the garlic then other methods as it isn't all stuck in the press. Overall I reccomend.

Wow - mixed reviews for this in my house. I really like it to crush or should I say press garlic. The material quality is excellent and is showing no signs of tarnishing. You do need to apply a bit of force to crush and extract the garlic which put my wife and daughter off this product. Cleaning the product is straight forward in the dishwasher. However some people will want a traditional garlic press --- so this is not for everyone.

I like this crusher a lot. You have to use quite a bit of force to crush the garlic but there's no waste at all as all the garlic pops out chopped and easy to scoop into your cooking. It's much easier to clean than a traditional garlic press. The dishwasher usually cleans it completely. I occasionally give it a poke with a scrubbing brush before I put it in to make sure none of the holes are blocked.

One garlic knuckle duster. Essentially you thump the garlic with the perforated edge until it is squished inside the ring, then you scrape it off with a knife. Personally, It seems easier to peel the clove first...otherwise you have to squish the half crushed clove out of the chewed up skin. Seems to work better tgan a traditional press if you have enough strength.

16.8.2017

It's amazing in its simplicity: It perfectly pulverises a clove of garlic as you rock it over the clove. The grip is perfect, the action easy.Better still, no fiddly bits to clean after and no need to have a grip like Mike Tyson. One of those gadgets that once you see it you wonder why it had not been invented sooner.

Takes a little getting used to, but once you have the knack, it will reinvent your use of garlic, and cut down on waste very effectively. Design wise it's a pleasure to use, with high spec materials used in an innovative Alessi - like way. More than a hint of 70s Sci-fi in the aesthetic!

Best garlic press ever. I have one and I bought this one for my son who loves to cook. He loves it. This is much easier to use than the conventional press type and so easy to clean. A quick scrub under running water with an abrasive sponge, job done! It is dishwasher friendly too.
