My mum gave us one of these excellent casserole pots as a house warming present back in 1971.Almost immediately the lid acquired an 18mm long faint-hair-line crack at one end, and soon after that the phenolic knob disintegrated. A new knob arrived under guarantee from JL, and we kept an eye on the lid.Four decades later it sports its fifth knob, but still with the same lid, and the crack has not changed at all - still 18mm long. The colour is still vibrant, although I don't remember if it was called 'Volcanic' back then. This Le Creuset 29cm Oval Casserole is the only regularly used large item to have survived this long in our busy kitchen. The bottom half of the cream enamel inside has stained a mellow grey/brown where (literally)thousands of stews/soups/casseroles/roasts/curries/puddings/etc/etc have been cooked. It has survived abuse from scourers, dishwashers, and over-enthusiastic grandmothers intent on giving it a 'really good clean'.It works well on our induction hob, and never seems to burn on the base (unless we do something stupid like forget about it and let it cook dry). A soak will always clean off the most baked-on residues resulting from too many long spells in the oven.Would I buy another? Immediately, should this one be broken (unlikely) or stolen (more likely). I also keep a spare phenolic knob - just in case the oven is inadvertently set too hot too often.

When I ordered this pot, I knew what I was expecting as have had the same before - great pot. At the time of ordering with Amazon I asked for my phone number to be clearly marked on the outside. I live in a small village, with no post route to my house,in Crete. The local DHL delivery lady phones when a packet arrives and we arrange to meet. Amazon told me that because I wanted my phone number, they would do this but it would mean an extra 5 days in delivery time - remember I did this at the time of ordering. The packet arrived 6 days late, after the extra 5 and guess what, no phone number on the outside! When I treid to speak to Amazon I was in contact with propfessional lady who tried to help called Maeve. When I tried to contact her again to inform her that the pot had arrived and not to send another. The man I spoke to, Curt, said 'glad we could be of help, I'll cancel the order' Absolutely clueless. As I said I live in a district with many ex-pats living here, ordering items online. On many occasions I have helped the dhl lady make contact with people as their numbers are not on the outside. I speak Greek and my work involves many ex-pats.Many of us will not be ordering from Amazon again.

After 25 years of service we finally decided that we had to retire our old Le Creuset due to it getting a chip in the enamel on the bottom of the pot.We bought the Denby equivalent but it just wasn't a Le Creuset, so that ended up with my daughter and we bought this one. There are two of us and the 25cm is more than big enough, it is easily big enough to serve 4 adults.A medium sized chicken will fit in the pot as will a medium sized lamb shoulder or 3 to 4 lamb shanks. We use the shoulder regularly for one of our favourite dishes, Greek Lamb. You may get a half lamb leg to fit but a full leg (with bone in)is too long.Good results are achieved whether cooking on the hob or in the oven. These Le Creuset casseroles are really easy to clean after a quick soak and come up looking like new.I can say that the colour looks even better up close than it does online, I'm pleased we opted for this one.Yes, they are expensive, but as my partner said 'You buy cheap, you buy twice'!If we get another 20+ years of service from this we will be happy bunnies!

I have deliberated purchasing a Le Creuset casserole dish for many years. I was never quite sure that I could justify the high price tag. However, this dish has absolutely transformed our mealtimes. It truly is worth every single penny.I use it for everything from stove-top soups, to one pot roast chicken dishes and everything in between. It looks stylish, is so incredibly easy to clean and cooks food evenly whilst keeping all of the flavours trapped inside. The main thing that swung it for me was seeing my mother’s 5 year old casserole dish. It was a cheaper model but was still fairly expensive. When she bought it 5 years ago it was stunning and looked comparable to Le Creuset. After 5 years of light use,the paint has almost entirely faded and chipped.I believe that you truly do get what you pay for with Le Creuset. I am hoping to pass these dishes to my young daughters when they set up home for themselves. This size of casserole is perfect for large chickens. It is very heavy, so might not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

I think they should state that the external black colour is Matt Black/Liquorice. When they say Black Satin I think they're referring specifically to the black enamel interior which I guess only the black oval casserole pots have. LC might be wanting to win over Staub enthusiasts, who claim better searing and browning of meat with black non-shiny enamel interiors. But then why only the black ovals and not the coloured ovals as well, who knows? I also have a 28cm round Matt black which has a light interior. I'm glad they didn't make the round black casseroles with a black interior as well. I actually prefer to see that a pot is clean. The idea of layers of oils building up inside a pot to develop a patina is not that attractive to me.I can do with less searing if that's the case.

Sure it is heavy and cumbersome for some, but the design is so functional and perfect for the cook & the kitchen, that they have never bother to improve on it. Now this is something that we should sit up and take notice! The functional side of this beautiful pot has been said elsewhere, such as the heat retention and energy efficiency etc. But I am also an emotive cook, I love to use good functional and beautiful kitchen appliances to make good food. Using this pot always starts me on a good journey to a delicious casserole or Hainanese Poached Chicken. One regret is that I should have started much earlier & have many more. I am working on the latter.....

After years looking at other people's Le Creuset cookware, we finally decided to go for it. This casserole is big enough to feed six hungry people. We have an old wood burning stove which was underused, the main reason being it is difficult to maintain a constant temperature for cooking, often resulting in undercooked or burnt results. This casserole dish solved that problem, as the cast iron spreads the heat evenly and does all the work... put it in and forget about it till dinner time! Now the family call to ask if there will be a Le Creuset casserole on the table for them when they come over... A great investment!

Agree with all the rave reviews...have had mine for years... It's a real work of art. There's plenty of space to stir everything around...and add a bit of this and that as you go.It's extremely versatile; sautéing(?), browning , simmering, marinating, or just boiling sox, or soaking the baby. The fact that it can go straight from hob to oven is a real plus.It holds heat extremely well, so you should use a lower temp in the oven than you're maybe used to. Then you can leave it for hours - to really enhance the flavours.Treat it with care, and you will have a friend for life!

I love this pot. It matches my aga. I've used for one pot recipes such as chilli con carne and roast chicken and it looks so much nicer to bring to the table than my usual tins and casseroles. It heats very quickly and doesn't seem to have any hot spots. It's quite heavy but the handles make it really easy to pick up - big enough to fit 4 fingers in. (But remember that being cast iron they heat up quickly if you start off on the hob so oven gloves are needed). Sadly the delivery was shocking and the pot missed its first planned outing.

I bought this for my husband as he has always wanted a cast iron casserole. I looked at cheaper alternatives but following a lot of research decided to go for Le Creuset. We have been delighted with the purchase - the black looks smart - great for serving on the table. The oval shape is very practical - 29cm perfect for all we have needed it for. Knowing people who have owned Le Creuset cookware for in excess of 20 years I am confident that it will last us many years! I would certainly highly recommend this product.

This was my first Le Creuset and the hype is well deserved. Only used it once but litterally been blown away. It cooked my ragu to perfection, without burning anything. The cleaning was just too easy, just had to wipe off with warm water. No more spending an eternity to clean a pot and this made the whole experience of cooking that much more enjoyable. I bought the 25cm oval, which was a bit too small to my taste. They are not cheap but already thinking about the next one I will buy.

After much consideration, I decided to order the 29cm oval casserole, the reason being I wanted the flexibility of using it for soups and stews as well as for large cuts of meat such as a whole chicken or leg of lamb. Cooking with this pot is such a joy, the enamel surface within the pot is smooth and easy to clean, and it goes easily from stove top to oven. I'm so pleased I chose the almond cream colour, as it looks lovely and classic. Overall I am very happy with this!

If I could deck my kitchen out in Le Creuset I would. I must say this is a fantastic dish which is massively versatile. I must use once or twice a week either on the cooker or in the oven. For roasting meats it takes all the hassle out of it, the meat stays moist and cooks better than if in a tray with the added bonus of not having the clean the oven. Best thing is that I'm sure I will still be using this dish in 20 years time.

I have been using it mercilessly for over a year. It's perfect for slow cooks (Pulled pork. Yeah.) or for the magic of crunchy crust home baked bread: preheat it at 250o C for half an hour, carefully remove it, open and put the bread dough in, close, remove lid after 30 min and keep it for another 15 min, all at full blast. You will never buy bread again. It's easy to clean and beautifully crafted. The orange is beautiful.

What is there left to say about these? They do the job perfectly and are definitely the highest quality within a reasonable price range. The fact that it's been so widely copied speaks volumes... This is our second pot and we are gradually building up a range of different sizes. This one will cater for perhaps six people and has the new style ridged lid and a metal handle rather than the older plastic one.
