I have recently got into jam and chutney making. I had what I thought was a suitable pan - a big, heavy bottomed Lakeland stock pot. However, I was finding the jam was catching slightly on the bottom and also coming close to boiling over and so I decided to get a maslin pan. I needed one suitable for induction hobs. I do like Lakeland pans but I discounted their maslin pan at over £40 as I don't know how long this interest will last and also it is not the kind of thing I would use every day so couldn't justify the money. I looked on Amazon - nearly always my first port of call for most things - and found the Kitchen Craft maslin pan. I did read a lot of the reviews, including those that said they had had pans with uneven bottoms. Howver, I decided to go with the majority verdict that it is a good buy and ordered the pan - from past experience with Amazon I knew that if there was any problem with the pan they would sort it out. The pan turned up yesterday and I have to say I was very pleased with it. I did wonder what it would be like given that is is considerably cheaper then many on the market. It is very solid and seems very well made - no uneveness on the base. The only point, which another reviewer made, is that it would have been handy to have two side handles as well as the top one. I made another load of jam yesterday with no danger of it boiling over and no catching on the bottom. I am, so far, extremely pleased with my purchase and think it is very good value for the money. It will also come in handy as a stock pot or when cooking things such as curries or chillis for large numbers which I occasionally do and never had a large enough pan for. Definately worth the money.

I've just made my first batch of marmalade in this shiny new pan. I used grapefruit, oranges and lemons as the seville season is over. I really enjoyed using the Maslin pan which then cleaned up perfectly, shining still as good as new. My 40 year old all aluminium one (a wedding present) is still OK but I read that citrus fruit doesn't like aluminium and anyway perhaps the pan might be leaking something nasty. it certainly retained smells of previous boilings, not so bad if used for jam but party quantities of curry and crab lingered ominously. So yes, I am delighted with the smart look and lighter weight of the Maslin plan, it feels just right. The markings on the side are useful as are the handle and hook.Sensible instructions are included, advising of course to use an oven cloth or glove when handling. Other pointers are not to wash it until it has cooled, something I hadn't thought of, also not to let the gas flames flicker up the side, they might burn the handle or less awful, spoil the shine.Generally manhandling a vat of boiling sugar is an exercise which deserves your keeping your wits about you so take it calmly and watch where you move - sleeping dogs underfoot or toddlers - don't lift it anywhere near them. The marmalade is now all nicely set and potted up in jam jars, if you don't have some to be re used you could get them from Jam Making and Preserving - Pack Of 6 - 199ml Round Glass Food Jar With Gold Twist Off Lids (Choice Of 5 Lid Colours) and a neat little preserve label Pink Floral Jam Jar Labels [Pack of 63] will make your finished produce look tickety boo.

We received the Kitchencraft Maslin Pan promptly after ordering, and it arrived in good condition. We have owned a similar preserving pan for about 20 years, and it has proved invaluable both for jams and marmalade, and also for pickles and chutneys. The illustration on Amazon is identical to the pan we have and features spot welded handle lugs and side handle. The pan we purchased from Amazon has riveted lugs and handle and therefore differs from the one pictured. Time will tell whether the riveted handles are stronger (strength has not been an issue for us with the old pan) but the rivet heads are a slight obstruction for cleaning. The other difference lies in the finish on the inside of the pan, which is rougher than our old pan, and has an inscribed calibration going up to 8.5 litres. The same pan is advertised elsewhere as an 8.5 litre maslin pan, but capacities are nominal, and for jam making one only fills part full to give "foaming space".The new pan was purchased as a gift and we hope the new pan will last as well as our old model. Our chief concern is the rougher internal finish which could possibly be harder to clean. Apart from this it is exceptional value for money.

I wanted to review this maslin pan in the hope it will help others. I've just successfully made my first batch of plum jam in this pan. I made it on a gas hob, largest ring, low heat, sat on a simmer plate similar to this one...Stainless Steel Induction and Gas Stovetop Hob Heat Diffuser Ring Plate 9.25 inch https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078QM11CY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_opVvBbH8E066G.The pan started to burn on one side when I had the heat turned up high so I reduced the heat to minium and it didn't burn anymore. I used a rubber spatula to stir the jam, making sure it didn't stick and burn. I used 2lb of stoned plums but next time I would double that quantity as the pan is large enough. The pan was easy to clean, and there was no permanent mark left where the jam had caught slightly on the side. I liked the fact that by using a rubber spatula the jam came away from the pan easier than the stock pan I have been using to make jam in.Now that I have used it I would recommend it but would advise using a simmer plate, low heat on a large ring, stirring occasionally and generally keeping an eye on it.

I bought this stainless steel maslin pan for jam and sweet making purposes. I bought a stainless steel model specifically avoiding aluminimum due to potential health risks by heating aluminium to high temperatures. The pan looks brilliant and works great. It has nice lines is a good size and has a nice measuring line on the inside which comes in handy. The only quibble I have is that upon reading the instructions (well yeah its a pan but it comes with instructions of how not to tarnish etc etc and all the safety bumph)..... it says that the sandwich base (of the pan) encases aluminium?! A fact of which had I been aware I probably wouldnt have bought it.Im asuming that it is ok however and my only worry is about the possible health effects of heating the aluminium but as the aluminium doesnt come into contact with the product being heated I am assuming that it will be ok?? - I have just put this in my review in case anyone else is looking for a pan of stainless steel who was not wanting aluminium to be included as well.Otherwise the pan is great.

My old aluminium one turned into a receptacle for catching used engine oil without my knowledge or consent so no, I didn't want it back. This one is a treasure, bigger than they used to be, capacity markings on the inside and angled so that the sugar thermometer stands virtually upright without slipping. The handle stays firmly upright too and is tall enough to be lifted with bare hand without burning or resorting to obscenity or blasphemy. Whilst you still need protection in the hand holding the other handle, the pouring lip is correctly shaped for splash free pouring into the funnel which allows all the jars to be filled before the cooked jam actually freezes. The cooking heat is evenly distributed so you can move more than two feet from the cooker without the jam catching and producing those interesting carbon chunks so endearingly reminiscent grandma's jam forced down in childhood.

This is a very good Maslin pan and because it's purpose-built for making preserves, the sides are high and wide enough at the top to prevent the jam from spitting all over the hob which is a real drag trying to clean off once the spills have set. Previously I have made jam and chutney in ordinary high-sided pans but when I've been trying to reach the 'rolling boil' stage I have had to hover over it making sure that the jam doesn't roll out over the top of the pan.I have made one batch of jam in this pan so far - I got it in the Amazon sale after my jam making had been done for the year - and it was so much easier compared to a regular pan.It is also a good-looking piece of equipment that feels really solid so I am hopeful that it will out-last my jam making years. I would also like to add that I was really pleased with the seller, delivery was rapid and just before Christmas too.

I've made two lots of jam and some tomato chutney in my Maslin pan - and so far, so good! Although it has good, even heating properties, the main handle remains cool enough to lift the pan without using a cloth or oven glove.I had previously tried to make chutney in an ordinary stockpot, and it was obviously too tall and narrow to cope with cooking off the excess liquid. If you're seriously considering making preserves, this pan will likely be a godsend. Great if you grow your own fruit and veg and have a glut of produce to use up. I've made marrow, ginger, lemon and brandy jam - a great way to use up marrows, and fantastically and surprisingly good tasting too! This pan will be used a lot on the run-up to Christmas,as friends and family will be getting homemade food gifts this year; how about that for truly personalised, money-saving gifts during this credit crunch recession?

Having just made my first batch of chutney using this maslin pan, I am really pleased that I decided to purchase it. The dimensions shown are deceiving and the pan is much bigger than I imagined it would be. It has a good, thick base and nothing has burnt or stuck to the bottom of the pan despite the large amount of sugar in the chutney. With other pans I have found it necessary to use a simmering plate under the pan but I feel that it will not be necessary with the maslin pan. The internal measure, in litres and pints, is a very useful feature and provided me with a good indication of how many jars to sterilise in preparation for bottling the chutney when cooked. This is definitely one of mybetter kitchen purchases and I consider the price reasonable bearing in mind the quality of the product. I am very happy to recommend this item to others.

This is an exceptionally good item at an incredible price. I have an induction cooker and have always used my largest saucepan to make jam, jelly and chutney, this has worked out OK but the quantity I was able to make in each batch was very limited. Having read good reviews I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a proper maslin pan. I am so cross I didn't buy one five years ago when I bought my cooker! It is a solidly built quality pan that has made it so much easier to cook large quantities successfully. It works perfectly on my Falcon induction hob. It is a dream to clean which makes it easy to make jams and chutney in the same day. The price is very competitive,I have seen thee same pan on sale for £60 elsewhere. Overall its fantastic.

I was very pleased at the speed of delivery, which meant that I could get on with making my first batch of marrow chutney without delay. The pan itself is a very useful size - not too heavy or unwieldy, large enough for a good few pounds of preserve, but still compact enough to hang/store in a cupboard. For a s/steel utensil, I think this is also very good value as the construction seems sturdy... but time will tell.I did notice that a slight white residue was produced on the edge of the aluminium base after the first wash - not sure if this is usual, or will be a reoccurring 'cosmetic' problem. Otherwise it was a breeze to clean, with nothing sticking etc - a fact that encourages more use.Just hope the chutney turns out as well as the pan.

The time came to replace my trusty old maslin pan that had given years of sterling service. Did a bit of nosing about to see reviews and decided on this one. In fact, I bought two - one for me and one as a gift. I can honestly say that both the gift recipient and I are very pleased. I've now used the pan on four occasions and it has done its job well. I love the fact that the litre measurements inside give me a better idea, towards the end of cooking time, of how many jars to prepare. No last minute boiling up of odd containers to hold the last tasty dregs. And the pan itself cleans up easily. I do use a diffuser on my gas top and this may help in preventing hot spots and any danger of burnton bits during high-heat processes.

One of my better purchases. So glad I bought the larger pan over the 4.5litre.Made cordials and jam using it in my first growing year so its going to pay for itself quickly.Easy to clean but I don't use a scourer - no need to - hot water and a sponge/dishcloth.The inside measurements in litres and pints were easy to see, to then calculate the sugar needed. The carry handle (if careful) can be held in the vertical with the grooves in the riveted handle mountsto aid pouring in conjunction with the side handle and the pouring spout did not dribble.Overall its a well constructed pan, good quality and has an attractive polished finish.Very happy with it - just finding somewhere to store it when notusing it is my next task...

Bought to replace an aluminium pan, which I knew wasn't very healthy and was prone to burning. The new pan has made chutney, jellies and jams almost non-stop since purchase without any problems at all. The thick base distributes the heat evenly without burning (even when I got distracted and one batch of jam was almost boiling over!) Although the sides of the pan couldn't help but burn, it washed off really easily. The content markings on the inside of the pan are a godsend and remove the necessity of decanting the contents to measure them. The handles are strong and make pouring easy. The price was very good too, much cheaper than High Street outlets. How did I ever manage without it?

Does the job very very well. I can make loads of jam or just one jar. It's perfect for making jam with any fruit, fresh or frozen. What I will say is PLEASE use a wooden spoon to stir your jam/marmalade in this pot. My friend has this pot & she damaged hers using metal utensils. I also use a non stick masher too & any mixture that sticks to it I remove with a wooden spoon/spatula. It is so so easy to clean. Don't use abrasive cleaning products, you'll damage the pot. I use soapy water & a non abrasive sponge. This jam pan will last a long if you use the right utensils & cleaning productsBuy this jam, you will not regret it. Well worth what I paid
