I have owned an older and probably original version of this for about 13 years, having inherited it from my mother who probably used it for at least 15 years and who was given it by her sister who had herself used it for some years before becoming infirm and no longer able to cook, something she loved doing and was very good at. It must therefore be about 35 years old and possibly more. Despite claims of fragility when hot, it has been plunged almost directly from a hot oven into warm water for washing up and has never been a problem and is yet to chip, which a smaller and much less often used Arcoroc one has on the handles. Relatively expensive when first purchased, although bought at one of the Ideal Home Shows at a small discount, the price has not dramatically increased since and it is now far less expensive than a metal alternative. It is now less easy to clean than it once was and there is a slow discolouration beginning to build up. It may be about time for a replacement. The current version has differently designed handles to both parts so that it is now safer to lift; the older one is completely smooth and I have sometimes accidentally dropped it back onto the oven shelf from a few centimetres as the oven gloves do not always securely grip it and the handles are not very deep.It is large enough for a chicken or medium-sized duck and both parts could be separately used, the bottom to dry roast and the top for Yorkshire puddings or even a dessert. I have used it for general roasting and casseroles where it works very well. It isn't completely steam-tight so liquid levels may need topping up if in the oven for long periods but I find that it does a better job than the enamelled metal one we previously owned. As I did not buy it, I have not attempted to use it on the hob as I did not have the instructions and I cannot remember the demonstrator's comments after all these years, but I believe it to be possible. An inexpensive and long-lasting investment for a family.

Pyrex has always been a good purchase. This is perfect for many casseroles. You can heat up to 500, though I cannot imagine ever heating a casserole that high. It bakes evenly, and remains not. I always wash by hand, and thus cleaned very easily. One if my favorite vegetable dishes is this Cheesy Cauliflower, it would be an excellent side dish for Easter.Cheesy Cauliflower by 12 tomatoes1 medium head (approx. 2lbs) cauliflower4 Tbs butter4 tbs all purpose flour2 tsp mustard powderSalt and pepper to tastePinch of Cayenne pepper2 cups whole milk1 ½ (reserve 2 Tbs) Cups grated cheese (very Sharp – something like Cabots)Preparation1Preheat oven to 4002Trim cauliflower florets from the stalk.Discard stalk. Cut florets into 1-2 ince pieces. Steam the cauliflower for about 10 minutes until firm but tender.3Spread the florets out onto a paper towel to dry while making the cheese sauce4In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter over medium high heat, add the flour and whisk to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes to get rid of the flour taste.5Add the mustard powder, pinch of cayenne, black pepper and stir to combine.6Drizzle the milk in a steady stream whisking the whole time so that the mixture stays creamy.7Season with salt and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.8When mixture thickens, add the cheese one handful at a time. Taste the sauce and adjust the salt/pepper as needed.9Spread the cauliflower florets into a 2 quart baking dish (or iron skillet), spoon the sauce over the top and sprinkle about 2 tbs of cheese over the top. Bake until browned and bubbly – about 30 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.Recommended. prisrob 04-01-15

I actually bought this Casserole Dish from The Range as it was cheaper than Amazon (and still is) but the reviewing system is a lot more thorough on here and was - in fact - the basis for me buying one in the first place. My single, built-in oven is not the biggest but, due to the minimalist nature of the dish, it fit perfectly, I am relieved to say. I had to remove the top shelf but that is normal and I was expecting this so no harm done.I could fit a full chicken in the dish perfectly and there is a knack to placing the lid on. You will get used to it and patience is the key and you will find there are NO gaps. The lid SHOULD fit snugly onto the base.If it does not there is a flaw in the design and I would order a replacement if I were you.Besides a chicken (surrounded by vegetables cooking in stock) I have been able to use the lid for a meat pie I made the other day. I absolutely LOVE the shape of the lid, it is brilliant. Not too deep but perfect for pies. Try it and you will see what I mean. The only thing is the glass gets very hot so be careful taking the dish out of the oven. It is designed so you grab hold of the bottom lip rather than the two both together as it has a bobbled effect for grip. I use two tea towels, one at each end and that has worked very well so far. I found that stretching them out did not work very well. All in all, I am absolutely thrilled with my latest Pyrex purchase, a brand I have loved for years and it took me ages to find a dish like this - with a lid on - so well done Pyrex for making it in the first place. Oh, and it is VERY easy to clean too.

Ignore the 1 star reviews. They mostly complain about it being broken/damaged on arrival. That is not a fault with the product, but the shipping agent or the warehouse staff’s inability to pack it properly prior to shipping. Anything can get broken during shipping if improperly packaged or handled during shipping. The most expensive Rolex watch in the world will get broken if dropped from a high enough window. Not a fault of the watch. Finally, I can do a casserole without it boiling over and going all over the bottom of the oven. Rather than filling one full to the top I can put exactly the same amount of stuff in this one, and it is only half full. Smiley face.Yes, the handles on the lid and bowl do not meet flush, something others complain about.. . . A good design feature. You can lift it out of the oven and then remove the lid while wearing oven gloves, as the gap is there for just that reason, room to get gloved hands between the lid and bowl.Tomorrow is d-day, or I should say sausage-casserole day. Time to test it out.

I bought this to use for cooking our Xmas chicken - we never have turkey, we only ever have an organic chicken for Xmas day. It looks large enough to contain a big bird - 2.5kg or 3 kg, or maybe even a bit bigger. I steam my chickens in a glass casserole rather than roasting them, as I find the meat stays much more moist (a cooking tip I got from my partners mother). It is also alot healthier than when roasting the chicken, as the chicken is not sat in its own fat, reabsorbing it into the meat. The fat can then be easily drained off with the water used to steam it. The chicken skin still browns in the glass casserole, although it won't crispen. Not a problem if you, like me, are heath conscious, and don't like eating the skin anyway!

I really like this casserole dish...and it does the job for which it was intended. I see other reviewers have mentioned the lid not fitting....my lid fits fine, but there is a gap, which I think is part of the design, and I think it prevents the lid from sticking to the base with the juices from the meal. Making the lid easier to pry off at the end of cooking. Beware though if you have a tiny oven (like I do), it barely fits in the oven width wise, so that makes it difficult to remove from the oven once the dish is piping hot. Otherwise no complaints...you can use the lid for other dishes as it's quite a generous size.

I cook in batches on the weekend so that I have time to eat a proper meal during the week and not resort to junk. I have two of these big boys that fit nicely one above the other in the oven. The handles of the dish and lid have a nice separation so you can remove the lid more easily with oven gloves on. This means that when you want to give your hot casserole a stir you're not searching for an implement to separate the handles enough to get a fat gloved hand in between. As with all Pyrex the quality of the glass is second to none.

Needed a large casserole dish for a family gathering and this one was a good price. It has plenty of space for about 8 or more good adult portions. The fit of the lid is a bit odd. It simply rests on the base with a sligh ridge to keep it in place. Not very secure and care is needed when moving it. However, if the handling lugs are used carefully it is fine. It cleans perfectly in my dishwasher even after a long cook with burned on food. Wouldn't want to hand wash it though.Overall, very pleased and would recommend.

The casserole arrived very quickly. The packing was not great, but it was in perfect condition. Amazon is selling it cheaper than anywhere else. It's large and multifunctional, described as 2-in-1 on the product wrap. I'll be putting the casserole to use for curing brisket in the fridge, then for baking and steaming the meat in the oven to make pastrami. The lid is perfect for making a jumbo holiday pie.Pyrex is reliable to use and easy to clean. Now, it's up to me not to drop it.

I had a Pyrex dish just like this & my husband broke it. That doesn’t say anything negative about it’s durability-he can break anything & I had it for years.Yes, Pyrex is a doddle to clean! And dish-washer safe!I bought this one in pArticular as it’s big enough for massive lasagnes & will even hold a small chicken. The lid mAkes it perfect for cooking without drying the food out, but gives meatloaf that great all over crust! The price was really good, too!

Ingeniously designed Pyrex Casserole dish. It's big (15 inches across, not 15cm as the info might say). Make sure it'll fit in your oven. The lid and the dish has a smart gap, between the handles, making taking the lid off a breeze. No more awkward dropsie situations. Safer when hot. This is a great alternative to an expensive Casserole Dish, that may need 'treating' after use too. Saving time, money and effort.Absolutely zero to complain about here.

Bought this to replace a long serving dish which had broken after around 25 years regular use! This dish was a very good price as we shopped around locally to compare prices. It arrived promptly and was contained in the most packing I have ever seen. Who ever packaged it up deserves a prize. Have used it recently and is perfect for stews casseroles and roasting chickens etc. A very useful purchase.

I use this upside down, on top of a baking stone, to bake sourdough batards. I have arthritis in my hands and was finding wrangling the cast-iron dutch oven increasingly difficult so decided to give this a go. There's no difference in oven spring with the Pyrex and it's so much lighter, I can handle it with no problems, Love it! I've had it for 3 months and wouldn't go back to cast-iron.

This is a superb purchase . Chuck your joint in the dish with your magic extras and throw the lid on . Cook away in the oven and voila the perfect roast . And as a bonus it cleans up really easily and your oven stays clean ! This is a Pyrex item that you need if you have a few mouths to feed . Brilliant and one of the best purchases made - well we all like food
