Now, as an avid cook, I've held Le Creuset on a pedestal for years and I've only recently really started to invest in products from their range - this being my first cast-iron purchase. The first thing to say is that cast-iron pots and pans aren't for the faint hearted - they are heavy. Very heavy. It's really worth considering what you are capable of lifting before you decide what size to buy. Don't forget that, of course, when they're full, they weigh a lot more and when they're hot and you're trying to move then using oven mitts, the game gets a whole lot more difficult. This pot is in "granite" which is a beautiful dark grey and has a dark cream enamel interior, which is easy to clean and things don't seem to stick to it during the cooking process. This 18cm pot (about 7 inches, in old money) is about the right size for cooking for one or two people. It holds two portions of a soup, stew or casserole by my reckoning. The beautiful grey colouring is quite neutral really and goes with anything, which is a plus as it's an oven-to-table pot, so you don't have to worry about it clashing with your dining room! Cooking in cast iron IS (as other reviewers have said) a completely different experience to using aluminium or steel or even copper pans - I cannot recommend it more. These pots really hold the heat in and keep meals warm for a long time. My favourite feature is that I can brown my meat in it on the stove, add the rest of the ingredients, cook it in the oven, serve straight from the pot on the table and then I can even freeze the leftovers in the same pot before defrosting and reheating. Couldn't be simpler!

This casserole looks great in black - it won't show any discolouration! and has the new stainless steel knob which means it can withstand being in the oven at higher heats than the old phenolic(?) ones - you do have to remember to use a glove to open it though! It is also great on the hob and everything I have made has tasted great and the inside is like new - even after strong curries. I have been able to put it in the dishwasher (unlike my wooden handled pans) and it is not too heavy and it is only 18cm round.I was worried it would be too samll but it is big enough to hold two chicken quarters, veg, stock and spices.I use it a lot for slow cooking on the hob and actually not so much for the oven (which is why I wanted it)and it makes enough for my carnivorous (the only non veggie in the house) husband with leftovers. It would basically feed two not especially greedy people with a casserole of two to three easily for soup. It is also good as a back up pan for veg and is not too heavy to lift with water in. I am very pleased with it.If you need to cook for a family you need to get a larger pan - but beware of the weight, especially when filled. I have basically stopped using my large creuset pans (given to me by my MIL when her wrists could no longer cope with the weight)and gone back to light stainless steel when I cook for all 6 of us.

This was the first Le Creuset product that I bought, and it was of high enough quality that they are now the only casserole pots that I want to own. The cast iron holds the heat so well that quite often I can just bring the ingredients up to boiling point and then take the pot off the hob completely to let the residual heat complete the cooking. Very economical. And I love that the pot can go straight into the oven if that's what is required for a recipe. The only drawback with this particular 18cm pot is that it's not big enough to cook more than one or two portions of something. If I'm going to the effort of making soup or stew then I make at least six portions and freeze the rest, otherwise it's not generally worth the hassle. So this little pot doesn't get the love it deserves, at least not in our house. Poor little pot. I want to love it but rarely reach for it unless I want to quickly cook a couple of portions of rice, or stew a very small amount of something for some particular reason.Having said that, maybe in time I will find that this pot comes into its own as my habits or abilities or tastes change. When it's likely to last longer than my own lifetime there is no rush to make a final judgement!

Superb pot, easy to clean, no need to oil pan before use, quality second to none... They heat up slower than aluminium sauce pans, but distribute the heat better and retain the heat for longer; therefor suitable for many types of cooking (browning, braising, reducing, caramelizing, making soups, etc), and of course great for slow cooking. I personally use them a lot in Asian (Thai & Indonesian) and French cooking.I got my Le Crueset Cast Iron Casserole pots some 3 years ago (not through Amazon). I started off with 1 and now I have 8 in different sizes and colours. The 18 cm pot is rather small, but big enough to cook a Lancashire Hotpot for 2.Even though this is the smallest size, being cast iron they are still heavy, so if you have weak muscles or back like I do, you will need someone to help you out in the kitchen. To give you some idea on my Granite 18cm Pot's specification (approx.):Portion : 2Volume : 1.8LLid weight : 0.8 kgPot weight : 1.7 kgTotal weight : 2.5 kgHeight : 8.5 cmMax oven temperature : the black phenolic lid knob up to 190C/375F, but Integral cast iron handles or stainless steel knobs can be used at 230C/446F.

It's beautiful to look at, reassuringly strong and heavy, and great at cooking- shame my lovely French kitchen buddy is a casserole pot and not a bloke! The lid fits snugly and being cast iron, is so heavy that it doesn't lift more than a couple of millimetres when liquid is boiling inside the pot; steam escapes but no boiled-over spillage to clean up. I've been using my pot for around three weeks to cook everything from oily fish, onion soup to vegetables and no smells linger after washing up; I love the enamel interior! The pot is easy to clean- so don't ever use abrasive agents on it, inside or outside (they're unnecessary anyway).Stubborn stains can be removed easily by soaking your casserole pot in warm water and bicarbonate of soda (leaving it overnight is very effective). Never let the pot boil dry or heat it without liquid covering the entire base inside- the manufacturer's guide states that doing so will permanently damage the enamel coating. WARNING the handles get extremely hot during cooking so ensure that you have oven mitts to hand when removing the casserole dish from the oven or hob!

This pot is simply my favourite of all my Le Creuset. It is perfect for when you want to make enough food for today, but not for tomorrow!!! Small soups and sauces, porridge, pasta, and even pies. Most of all, by far the best way of cooking steamed rice, especially good for that tricky brown rice, which in this pot comes up perfect.Method for perfect brown rice:Measure 1 cup of riceWash wellPut in pot with 1 1/2 cup of water, maybe a little moreAdd a little olive oil, or any oil you haveAdd a little salt & a little bit of brown sugarYou could add some Saffron or any spice you fancyThen cover and bring to boil, then simmer for about 20 minutesThen without touching the lid, turn off the heat and leave for another 20 minsFinally fork through. For white rice you can boil for 5 minutes and then leave for 20 mins. The most important part of this is to not removed the lid 'not even for a peak' for a good 20 mins.I now use this pot most days and the colour is by far the nicest and although Orange is the warmest colour, I think Teal is the next warmest.

I've been using Le Creuset casseroles and frying pans for nearly forty years. The originals are still in regular use. I've tried all sorts of others, but nothing beats the even, steady heat of these for slow cooking on the hob or in the oven. (I use other pans for spuds and quick stuff). They're easier than you might expect to clean - just soak for about half an hour and just about anything comes off. Jif or similar or Fairy Power Spray will shift the stubborn, but rarely needed. Economical as you only need a low heat. OK for induction hob.As long as you don't put a hot pan in cold water or vice versa (cracks off the enamel with thermal shock)or drop it, it will last a lifetime. This one is just the right size for a generous 2-person casserole, leaving stirring space. Volcanic is THE colour - I think pale colours make the food seem cold if you take it to table. Beware of buying a huge one to match- when full they're for weightlifters only!

I'd always wanted a Le Creuset pot but the price held me back. I have a selection of clay pots to cook with and they work very well and the food tasted very good, so I was intrigued about the cooking experience of cast iron. Recently I received a gift certificate so I splashed out on the white item as it was an exclusive colour to Amazon and cheaper than the others that were different coloured. It works very well indeed; the heat distribution is even, and the heat retention meant that I had to have the gas turned on the lowest level PLUS have a heat diffuser so that my pot wouldn't boil up. I have cooked excellent meals from this and recommend it.You would however need arms of iron to use this item as well as insulating gloves or cloths.

ROUND 18 cmCOLOUR : GRADED BLUEApproximate maximum capacity : 1.8LSimply brilliant - this versatile little Casserole Dish/Cocotte is ideal for all sorts of recipes, but my favourite in this particular size, is 'Seafood Chowder', turning out comfortable servings for three, with warm rustic bread on the side.Cast iron retains heat longer than any other cooking material so it is ideal for braising at the lowest of temperatures and, therefore, is very economical, too. Cast iron is remarkably easy to wash up, by hand, too - although some soaking and a rub with a plastic brush may be required for those more stubborn baked-on remains.Dishwasher safe.Boxed, complete with full CAST IRON care and use instructions.

'Keep your lid on!' That's what my wife screamed at me whilst I ranted and raved about the lack of lid to this product. The irony isn't even amusing. I'm a hungry man, my wife's a hungry man, all we wanted to do was cook us a pot-roast, a pot-roast for two, I can't even find the strength in me to go down the shops any more. Not least when the mugger burst through the roof, (yeah, we'll probabbly want a lid for that too now), and told me to give him the dough was the circle fully complete. He had to wait an extra forty minutes for it to rise because we'd no damn lid. What sort of host could do that to a 'guest'?! Huh?! What sort of monster...?!Arnold 'Hungry' Johnson.

The Le Creuset cast iron series is total quality. It's a different experience to cooking in regular pans - they hold the heat so well and so evenly that even the smallest ring on a hob can heat the biggest pan. They are VERY heavy, and obviously the handles get hot, but thats just part of the appeal. They are expensive, but feel like they'll last forever. The enamel coating beats non-stick every time, both in functionality and durability. At the current discount price you've got to get one... The only trouble is then you'll want to replace your other pans, and some of the larger sizes are over £100 each!!! Youch! Still the rest of us can grab bargins like this one...

I was going to buy a larger casserole but got put off by the weight and I bought this one. This pot is not as heavy as expected. To put it simply - I love it! It heats up evenly, it is not coated with any non-stick nasties, it washes beautifully and it goes from the hob to the oven to the table.I have now bought the frying pan and will be getting the 22cm casserole as soon as I can. The 18cm is great for casseroles for 2 and pasta sauces for 3, but I need a larger casserole for soups and for my expanding family. Even though I plan on getting the larger pot, I am sure that this size will get the most use.

Casserole purchased to replace a cheaper lookalike, which developed serious flaws after only a few uses - enamel flaking off inside as well as outside, so product had to be discarded right away for Health and Safety reasons. I am hoping that the Le Creuset casserole, based on the firm's reputation will give much longer service, and continue to look good and free of flaws, but of course this can only be confirmed after a period of use. All well so far, enamel looking solid, and well attached to cast iron base, but of course only long term use will tell if I am getting what I was looking for.

Admired for years and eventually afforded I bought this lovely bright casserole and have used every week since. Family now smaller ideal for small roasts, cooking must be at lower temperature though. Casseroles are delicious, and cooked slowly and to perfection in my casserole. Easy to clean afterwards. Only disadvantage I felt browning the meat left a deposit so prepared food in a non stick pan and transferred to dish, ensuring easy to clean after. Only disadvantage is the weight when full, or the fact I need a larger casserole when they all come home. Still looks like new too.

Le Creuset cast iron cookware is so well known and respected that further praise is hardly needed. So why does not everyone have a set? Maybe the initial cost?(and who buys at list price anyway?) BUT, please note, these items last a lifetime ! This casserole costs less than two pence a week to own !We could improve British cuisine, nutrition and home economy no end if every school leaver was given one of these and a half-hour lesson on how to use it and things to cook. My new little one gets venison and bacon bits tonight!Superb piece of kitchen kit.
