I bought this when it was on a clearance sale on this site for around £50. What a bargain! If you're looking at this, then you are obviously aware of the quality associated with Le Creuset, and want to purchase a serious piece of kit for your kitchen. This is awesome. It is so versatile and can be used on practically any hob surface, and can also be put straight into the oven after being on the hob! Personally I have found it has revolutionised my cooking, as I now use it for practically everything I cook! The lid on this also (when positioned correctly) fits the pot perfectly, and prevents any steam from escaping. I was cooking a tomato sauce the other day with the lid on, and after half an hour,it was still as wet as I wanted it! Without such a well fitting lid, most of the water would have just boiled away. (Which I didn't want to happen in that instance). Not only is it practical, but it also stylish as well. The classic orange Le Creuset cast iron pans/pots are extremely iconic, and have a timeless look. Sometimes I will use this to cook something on the hob, put it in the oven, and then take to the table for people to serve from, and it looks great! Not only that, but they will last forever as well. A friend of mine has her mum's and it is about 30 years old but is still going strong! Regardless of whether you purchase this in a sale or not, it is still going to be an expensive piece of kit. Don't be shy about buying it though as you will use it a lot.

I am just looking for a casserole as a gift and felt I must review these wonderful casseroles. I have been using mine for over 25 years and they are fantastic. Although they are heavy they cook perfectly, retaining the heat and allowing you to lower the temperature. They sit on the hob and distribute the heat well. They can be left in the oven for hours and produce tasty casseroles every time. I also use my large round one for making jam, marmalade and pickles. They are easy to clean and happily go in the dishwasher too.I have casseroles and roasting dishes in a variety of colours - all of them are great! I do not have a satin black one as they are a newer addition to the range.(I believe these do not have the enamelled interior so check before you purchase). They are expensive but will last a lifetime; mine have been used 'hundreds' of times and look nearly as good as new after all these years.Highly recommended. Don't go for cheaper imitations.

I bought this item to replace a well-used, worn and much loved item bought about 25 years ago. The only reason I have marked this new one down one star is that the knob on the lid protrudes, making it much higher than the old one, so I have to make sure the shelf in my oven is low enough to accommodate it. (The handle of the old lid was inbuilt and comprised the same metal as the casserole dish). The material of the new knob restricts oven temperature, although I doubt I would ever use that high a heat when cooking with le creuset. Having said that, I love le creuset, it is virtually non-stick, easy to use and clean, and gives consistently good results whatever is made in it.

We recently moved to a home with a kitchen that has a gas hob. I got the urge to get some quality cookware and Le Creuset was the name that ticked all the right boxes. All my cookware is now Le Creuset except for a pressure cooker that is a necessity for my busy life. How I love the cast iron casserole and how quickly it becomes non stick. I also love the ribbed skillet and the stir fry pan and the trivita saucepans... I am enamored - I have become the equivalent of a man in a garage surrounded by all his favourite tools. Le Creuset "I love you... will you marry me?".

I honestly didn't expect a new casserole dish to improve on the old one from a taste and succulance perspective, but this range certainly does that. OK to be fair I've always used a cheap and cheerful casserole tin prior to this, so when you spend, I dunno, 4 times as much, I guess you really should expect a taste difference! And yes, whilst it's still a very expensive purchase, it will last a lifetime, and it turns out better quality stews, curries, you name it, so just a single star dropped for the cost element, but certainly 5 for the cooking element!

I first used le creuset products at catering college over 20 years ago and did not really appreciate the quality but have over the years tried a number of different brands that have failed to last.this one however remains number 1 in my book i just can't fault this brand, it will last a life time. I used to collect the orange range as this was the first that was available to me and I do still like, although I now like the black range and this dish is great you can use it anywhere on the range cooker an it looks good too.Quality that will last

This cast iron casserole dish is heavy but something to treasure. The thick metal distributes heat evenly across the base when on the hob and the close fitting lid keeps the dishes moist after hours of slow cooking in the oven. Even out of the oven the dish retains heat well.Surprisingly even after the six years since we received it as a wedding present the surface wipes clean and is perfectly presentable on the table top.The dish requires two hands to lift but is not unwieldy and manages small and large portions equally well.

This casserole has worked wonders for my slow cooking stews, browns meat beautifully and keeps food hot for up to 2 hours, which is ideal when you have teenagers who come in at all times from work. I love the fact I can go from hob to oven and cook at lower temps, so saving money. The quality of the finish is excellent and looks lovely sat on my hob. You do have to be quite fit to use it as it is quite heavy once full. I love the fact that I got such a good price on it so was able to buy the stainless steel knob for it to.

Both myself and my wife do the cooking so it was an investment in buying this product, however it seems to have payed off. Since using this and finding how easy it was to make things 'all in the one dish' my wife has decided that she will do the majority of the cooking. It keeps things hot for ages and you can tell you are buying quality cause it wieghs an absolute ton! Believe me it is well worth the money and it creates less hassle when cooking dishes as you can just leave it in the oven and forget about it....perfect!

We've had one of these for years and I managed to drop it so that it cracked - I had forgotten how much they cost.... Anyway no question about replacing it, just the best oven/hob to table casserole we have ever had. I still think the price is taking the p*** for a lump of, admittedly well cast and enameled, cast iron, but hey ho it is quality. The only reason it isn't 5* is 'cos of the price.Makes a great present for anyone who enjoys cooking and doesn't have one.

Good quality French solid cast iron casserole which I expect to last as long as my other Le Creuset pots which are now almost 40 years old and are as good as new. My children will inherit these and I suspect their children after them. Good to know in these days of throw-away culture/fashion that a product like this is still appreciated and survives.

I bought this to replace my old one.(old one got dropped and cracked) I am just as pleased as I was with the other. Would really like the saucepans to match but they are just too heavy when full.I know these are expensive but definitely worth the money as they really last years. My old one was at least 20 years old.

We have been le creuset users for nearly all of our 42 years of married life. Their kitchen ware is fantastic, but does seem expensive. However when you consider our pans are 35 years old and look brand new, their actual cost versus/long life is fantastic value for money. We can reccomend their products to anyone.

Le Creuset is known for its quality and style and this is no exception. Being an oval shape it would fit on a small table equally well as in a small oven or stove I think. The recipients sent me a glowing report on their first casserole so was pleased that it lived up to expectations. Good delivery and packaging.

so very surprised to see it on Amazon, as I was told by a fairly senior employee of a well known company that this colour was exclusive to John Lewis shops and Waitrose, which is why you see it on Nigella Lawson's latest TV prog.!Also, it is £5 over normal Amazon list price for this item in a different colour.
