This is my first foray into the Le Creuset world, and I am now a convert! I got a really good Amazon warehouse deal on this, so it cost me £97. I don't know why it was a warehouse deal, as it arrive perfectly packaged, never been used, etc, but I am thankful it was. As I have a prime membership, which I regularly use, it was delivered to me the day after I ordered it, I always marvel at how quickly I can get items with this prime membership. It cost me £44 something for a year, but i've already far exceeded that amount in postage. I guess it has encouraged me to use Amazon for things I would ordinarily buy elsewhere, and most of the time they have proved cheaper.I have used this a few times now,I love one pot cooking and this makes it so easy. I learnt on the first use, when I managed to get pasta stuck on the bottom of it, that unlike other pots, you don't need to have the heat up as high on the gas hob, as it retains the heat a lot more, good hopefully that saves on the energy bills. I had to give the bottom a good vigorous rub to get said pasta off, on that note, do not use metal utensils in any Le Creuset cast ironware, as they say to prolong the life you should only use plastic/sillicone. But, Le Creuset do sell their own cleaner for their cookware. I got some for £6.95 on ebay, although can't tell you if it works, as have yet to try it. You can use plastic brushes on them, but those fierce green scourers are a big no, no. Anyway, once clean, I finished cooking my other ingredients on the hob, and then put it from there straight into the oven to finish off the meal. Again, you probably won't need the oven temperature as high, as the pot is retaining more heat. It was a good job I checked my meal half way through, as it was cooked in half the time it would have been ordinarily. You cannot get away from the fact that Le Creuset cast iron cookware is much, much heavier than other brands/types, but I don't feel this is an issue, as this pot has a good set of handles, that gives you a sturdy two handed approach with. Obviously, even when on the hob they get hot, hot, hot, as are integral part of pot, so made of same cast iron, invest in a good pair of oven mitts, if you don't already have them. However if you struggle lifting heavy items, this is not the range for you, as without anything in these items are heavy, and of course once filled with food that just adds to the weight. This pot has replaced my other larger cooking pots, which has meant more space in my cupboard. Although as I like the colour, at the moment it hasn't got anywhere near my cupboard, as it is kept on the hob. I also think I could get rid of my frying pan as well, as it is good for frying off anything like bacon, onions, etc.I have been so impressed with this, that I now await delivery of the Le Creuset saucepans and alternative size casserole dishes that I have bought. My sister has the iconic volcanic orange colour of a smaller pot to this, and she is still using it after 25 years! It is older than her three teenage children, and will probably last long after they have flown the nest.Items come with a lifetime warranty, and to take advantage of this you have to send the item back, with a note of where you bought it (if you can remember!!!)I think to offer a lifetime guarantee on your products, shows that as a company you have faith in them.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to other consumers. Trouble is for me, I think this may have triggered the start of a Le Creuset addiction, I am already lusting after Le Creuset oven gloves, sillicone kitchen tools, etc, etc. Their product range seems never ending, and the colours they do are glorious. However, I do know that they can suddenly stop making colours though, so if you are thinking of starting a collection, it seems the advice is buy ones that you can mix and match. My casserole dish is teal, but the saucepans and other things I am waiting for, are all in graded blue, they will blend together very well and it won't matter if they stop making those colours, as I can just buy other colours that will blend.

I hadn't planned to order a pot quite this large but I got such a fantastic price here that I couldn't resist (it was even cheaper than the next size down!) and I'm not sorry. This pot is big enough to cook many large portions of soup or stew all at once. I can fit huge lumps of meat in it or make six litres of jam or pickle. It won't ever be an everyday pot for me as there are just two of us living in the house most of the time, but it certainly will be a favourite when I am bulk cooking for the pantry or freezer.Fuel economy is excellent because almost anything can be kept simmering at the lowest possible setting on the hob and brought to the boil on the next setting up.I can't imagine ever wanting or needing to put a cast iron pot like this on full heat.As with all the other Le Creuset products I've tried, this is top quality but does require a certain level of care (all documented in the little brochure that comes with the packaging) just like any other enamelled cast iron would do. If I look after it there's no reason to think it won't be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase.EDIT: I said originally that this 28cm pot wouldn't be an everyday pot for me, but that turned out to be wrong. Six months later I find myself hauling it out on a regular basis! Even if I'm not cooking a huge batch of something, it's often handy to have a bit of extra room for stirring or using a stick blender without splashing. My 22cm pot has now been relegated to the back of the cupboard as it just doesn't get used as often as it used to.

A friend of mine was given one of these casseroles as a gift last year and I've been jealous since. I finally treated myself to one recently, buying the same size as my friend had, and forgetting that her cooker is 55 or 60cm wide, while mine is a modest 50cm. Fortunately, the heat absorption of the cast iron means that the casserole's being slightly off centre on its ring means that size doesn't matter.I live alone, but once a week cook for up to seven or eight people. I don't much like washing up, so have got pretty good at one-pot cookery, which is where this casserole excels. I only need to cook twice a week: anything more, besides bread, is for the fun of it. Once for the dinner party, and then once for the freezer.Even washing up isn't as difficult as I feared: although the casserole is large and heavy, even dried on food wipes off easily with warm soapy water and a sponge (oh! To have room for a dishwasher!). There's a little voice in my ear that keeps whispering "go on... get the matching saucepans... you know you want to..."

The size of the casserole is big. Really big but it is not as heavy as I thought it would be. Great size for a family of 4-5 people on a daily basis + room for 3-4 guests on occasions. Cleaning is unbelievably easy. You can cook in the morning, when you have time, go out, get back for lunch and the food is kept hot in the pot. Great product for use over the hob and inside the oven too. The only problem I notice is slight coloration inside the casserole. It was my understanding that it doesn't stain and I was surprise to see the darker spots appearing. I doubt that it is due to my cleaning because I only use mild washing up liquid on a soft sponge to wipe it off. There are also some dark patches on the rim of the casserole (rust in my friends opinion ) that I am watching to see what it might turn out to be or call Le Creuset customer services to enquire about. Conclusion: If you do not have one you do not know what are you missing. Once you get it it becomes your main and only cooking pot in the kitchen that would last forever.

Ok make no mistake, this is a heavy pot so if you are frail or elderly this might not be for you. weighing in at about 6 kilo empty, by the time you fill it up.... well you can imagine. Thats the downside, the upside they are build to last, you can start off on the stove top to brown your meat, sautee your onions, what have you, pop it in the oven and forget about it for a few hours, lift it out and slap it on the table, hey presto get stuck in!Cleaning couldn't be easier a wee soak in fairy liquid and a wipe with a sponge.. clean as a whistle!I was reluctant to say the least about spending so much money on a pot, I was also sick to the hind teeth of paying for new pots and then throwing out good food because it had burned on the base of them.A friend of mine told me she was given four le cruset pots as a wedding gift and was still very happily using them to this day (35 years later). I'm glad I listened and this is now the start of what will eventually be a comprehensive collection. My recommendation - buy it now!

Simply brilliant - this versatile Casserole Dish/Cocotte/French Oven is ideal for all sorts of recipes and my favourite in this size is a one-pot:-'Braised Beef and Vegetables',starting off by browning my brisket on all sides in the dish on the hob, then adding my red onions, herbs and stock....bring to the boil, put on the lid then into the oven, for about an hour........out again, add my chunks of winter vegetables and back into the oven until the meat is tender.......a favourite for autumn nights, serving 6!Or....to show the true versatility of this brilliant 'casserole' dish, you could make what my best friend makes in his:-Bazaar-sized cakes,to aid local charity funds and he has just turned out the most magnificent looking Celebration Cake....now waiting to be iced!Sturdily boxed, with full use and care instructions supplied.Easy to use and clean by hand, although some soaking may be required for more stubborn baked-on food remains.Dishwasher safe.

I work in a cookshop, so I see lots of pots and pans, and they all have their advantages and disadvantages.Le Creuset has to be an all time favourite. I bought this pan as the stock pot we were using for all our long-cook Italian sauces was too small. It's definitely worth the money I paid for it.We use it for all sorts: pot-roast chicken, stews, bolognese/ragu sauce, Italian tomato sauce, soups. It's really versatile. Sure, it's a bit big, and I have trouble storing it, but then I have a full kitchen anyway.Cast iron is one of those wonderful products - you can leave your dinner on a low heat bubbling away for hours, and not worry. As long as the heat is not too high it won't burn. This is a pan not only for the large family, but for anybody. There's only two of us, and this is probably the pan we use the most. Make it big, then stick it in the freezer.Buy it, definitely worth the expense - and looked after, definitely will last a long time.....

Cast iron pots have been with use for a long time and when you use these you realise why, most things tastes better cooked in one of these. While you might baulk at the price, consider that with care and consideration they can be passed down through the family. They are a breeze to clean but NEVER EVER under any circumstances be tempted to scour the pot. If you do have stuff stuck on the inside soak with a drop of biological wash and that will lift anything. But don't leave it too long otherwise it can cause pitting. And we don't want pitting. You can cook all manner of delights with these, and I am so attached to mine that I have even been known to take a couple of them on holiday. To France of course.I would also recommend the Le Creuset Cook Book as it really gets the most out of this cook ware.Bon Appétit

My only complaint is that it's heavy and awkward to carry home on the tube on a busy Friday night, because you though it would be easier to get it delivered to work than home..... But that was my error in judgement and not a reflection of the beauty and brilliantness of the pot itself!I didn't hesitate to rate this 5/5 as it is 100% perfect. I have wanted one of these for ages and so very glad I finally made the leap and invested in one. Love the colour and size, it's big but that's what you need for reducing casseroles and sauces. Made a big vat of chilli last night which came out perfectly. Going to attempt Boeuf Bourguinon next weekend and then Coq au Vin and frankly I can't wait!!Perfect food for this sort of weather, which I couldn't have done before purchasing this.

We have had Le Creuset pans for many years and, having recently bought a new range cooker, wanted a large pot that could be used on the gas hobs and in the ovens. This fitted the bill and has been used to good effect for a variety of products and recipes, all with good outcomes. You have to make allowance for the heat retention properties of cast iron and reduce the oven temperature accordingly (saving energy?) and allow time for the pot to soak well before washing it after use. We avoid putting Le Creuset pots in the dishwasher as experience has shown this takes the shine off their finish. The only drawback with this type of pot is its weight, even before you have anything in it,but it helps to keep you fit. Would recommend to others.

This is my second Le Creuset, both a recent investment. I am utterly delighted with how they cook. You can cook slowly and gently without things sticking or burning. They work brilliantly in the oven or on the hob and a great for casseroles, paella etc where you need to start off on the hob and transfer to the oven. Even when you've cooked a casserole for three hours and there is baked on gravy on the dish, it washes off really easily. Le Creuset recommend you don't put the pans in the dishwasher so it's great that they clean so quickly and easily by hand. They really are an investment as they're obviously on the expensive side but I think they're worth it and they'll last a lifetime.

This was a gift for my wife, something she's wanted for quite some time. I haven't used it myself for cooking yet, but the dishes my wife has made in it so far have been phenomenal! She's used it to make dishes she's previously made using 'standard' pans, and I have say the food that's come out of this casserole tastes so much better, with meats more tender and flavours deeper with more subtlety. This may be because she's been able to put the entire thing into the oven (something not possible with a standard pan), but the result is the result. It also retains heat much better, so a dish remains warmer for longer. At the end of the day, my wife loves it and that's all that matters.

I bought this item for it looked robust! Robust it was! As my wife was washing up, I settled down to smoke one of my finest cigars, as I was a little tipsy from my single malt whiskey, I mis-clipped my tobacco. I quickly rushed into the kitchen where my wife was carrying out her womanly chores, reached across her to grab one sheet of plenty, knocked the poorly balanced le creuset crockery, the dish fell and broke my wife's toe. As I was over the limited, she had to drive herself to A&E, due to her broken toe, she could not operate the clutch adequately and drove my 9 series into next doors fence. All in all I am pleased with the quality of the pan.

The usual exceptional quality, will last for ages - just like its predecessors. I was worried about the colour, because advertise picture colours are tend to be off, but this one is exactly as shown. Actually, better in real life, as there is a depth to the colour which was not captured by the photo.First thing we have use it for: baking a bread. We have no AGA, nor traditional high heat storage ovens, so the best thing you can do is preheat the oven with the Casserole in it, and it will do miracle to your baking - as the thick iron wall will smoothen out your oven's uneven heating. Try it! Best bread we had...

This is one of the best products money can buy. Somehow all the dishes taste better. It is not just a product - it is a monument of the cooking history. It does not come cheap, but if you take proper care of it, it will last for generations and as such I consider it to be a great investment.. It also looks great! It is the second Creuset pot I have bought and I would just like to warn you that the fact that it is durable doesn't mean that you can mistreat it: I wanted to warm up some opnion soup one day, fell asleep and ruined my pot. Trust the producer's assurances of durabaility but don' expect miracles!
