This is not my first time using Directions hair dye, but my first time in using spring green as a full head cover.(I used to have a green fringe and black hair about 6 years ago!)My hair in the last year has been blue for a very long time, and I decided it was time for a change, but as I like the colours at that end of the chart I decided to go for something similar and go for green. To achieve my colour I washed all my colour out as much as I could and gave my hair one small bleach wash to get the remains out the ends, to make sure I achieved an even colour all over. Please note I am a professional and don't damage my hair! When I applied this dye to my head I was expecting a green like it shows on the swatch in the picture,do note this colour is A LOT brighter in person,, especially if you have it on top of white blonde hair like I did.Rather than the colour swatch it is more like highlighter green, basically neon.It might come out different on a different head but this is just my experience. I also decided to have pink streaks under my fringe and in the sides, and the green much outshone the pink. When I applied the dye, and washed it out some of it was green and other bits were this florescent yellow colour..If you're doing this over newly bleached hair, you will need to dye it and wash it out, and probably dye it again. If you have short hair this will probably not happen but if you have long hair like me you will. After the second coating of dye to make it even, it took a couple of days to get used to it, but now I do love it.After one wash it was still pretty, but the thing I do have to say about this colour, is it does not last! After about 3 washes that yellow colour was starting to reappear, and my hair needs regular top ups to stop it doing that. The yellow might sound nice, but the colour is not the nicest, it's neon remember and it looks a bit glow stick like.Another positive about this colour is it does not run as badly as other hair dyes I have used, I have two colours very close to each other, which when I wash my hair could possibly mix together and go brown, but they do not, which I am very pleased with!Onto the packaging, the hair tubs really could be bigger,My hair is down to my chest and I need about 2 and a half pots to cover my head, ideally they should increase the container size to 100ml instead of 88ml.Other than that the pots are nice, and easy to carry about to the hairdressers or home from the shops, they come with a ring-pull helping your hair dye being 100% safe before you open it properly. The instructions on the back are very clear,Although it tells you to leave the hair dye on for 20-30 minutes, DO NOT FOLLOW THIS STEP.If you leave your hair dye on for the recommended time it will not last at all, you need to leave it on for as long as you possibly can to make sure your hair absorbs as much colour as possible.I leave mine on for over 3 hours at a time, I wrap my hair up with a shower-cap and get on with my day and wash it off at night.THIS WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR HAIR.This hair dye is not made from the products that normal hair dye is made from, it will not fry your hair, only condition it. If your hair is slightly damaged this will help it go back to normal. If your hair is really bad, it is safe to add conditioner to this hair dye, I do one part conditioner to 3 parts dye to make sure my hair gets lovely and soft whilst I leave it on, important if you bleach your hair! The smell of this hair dye is a lot like play-dough, not unpleasant though! The hair dye is also very thick and 'gungey', so make sure to follow the instructions and do it on wet hair, which will help it spread all over.In summary,I personally like the colour and the dye, but not as much as say directions 'Flamingo pink' or 'Lagoon blue'It does not last as long as I would like and the colour is very different from how it should be, like I said, I personally like the colour but someone else might have wanted much darker hair.It also washes out far quicker than I would like..I'd give it a 3 and a half out of 5. Not the best but trust me I've used much worse! This is a picture after one wash of the hair,If you look closely you can also see the yellow creeping in.. It also does not show the brightness.[...]

I've tried a few of these Directions semi-permanent dyes on un-bleached hair now and have had mixed results. However, I do love the ones that have worked and have uploaded photos of the best ones. I shall describe each one seperately - all of which were left for around 30mins after being fully applied.I was looking to try some semi-permanent dyes but was unwilling to bleach my hair as I never have and don't want to damage my hair too much. The first photo I uploaded is roughly what my hair was like when I first used these dyes. My natural medium brown hair had grown through and left over highlights towards the bottom had turned quite light. They were more towards the very end of my hair when I dyed it though, rather than the majority of it like in the photo. The length is about the same.I first tried the lagoon blue which just gave my hair a slight green tinge (more visible on the light ends). As it wasn't very noticeable I haven't uploaded a picture of this one. This was the colour that had the most noticeable transference onto clothes and my bed pillow. I used one pot for the whole of my head as it seemed to cover well. I then used the second pot after only a couple of days and one wash to see if it made it brighter but there was minimal difference.I then tried Midnight Blue not long after (the third picture I uploaded). This showed up a lot more than the lagoon blue, and I quite liked it. On the left is the colour in artificial light and on the right is colour in natural light. It turned out sort of like turquoise on my hair, however my brother was nice enough to say it looked grey... It faded to more of a brown with a greenish hint again after a few washes. This also left some transference on my pillow but wasn't as bad as the Lagoon Blue. This colour was obtained with just one pot and I still have one pot left over.I tried to wait until the colour had completely faded before applying the Dark Tulip, but there was definitely still some green in the tips. However the Dark Tulip dye (second photo I uploaded) came out as a very nice (in my opinion) purple colour. Again, the left is in artificial light and the right is in natural light. It faded to nothing within a few weeks but I was very pleased with the colour obtained whilst it lasted and I intend to use the second pot soon. This one seemed to stain skin more (but I know reds often do) but I actually noticed little transference at all onto my pillows and clothes.Next up was the Tangerine colour. My hair seemed to soak up the first pot so I applied the second pot in the same sitting and after washing there was minimal difference. The ends of my hair certainly had a more copperish tinge but seeing as I had that anyway, it wasn't something anyone noticed. This was therefore the most disappointing, but I suppose it is to be expected when putting a light colour designed for bleached hair onto medium brown. Finally, I tried Rubine. This turned out a lovely reddish colour (the last photo uploaded). Both photos are in natural light but the one on the left was on a grey day and was the same day it had been dyed. The one on the right is on a sunny day and was after being washed once and half-heartedly straightened. This one also completely faded quickly (around 4 washes), but also no noticeable transference to other things. This was one pots worth of dye so I have one left and have recently used just under half to 'dip dye' the lower part of my hair. All of these dyes are conditioning and have left my hair feeling rather soft - I imagine you could leave it on for however long you want but 30mins was more than enough for the ones that actually worked for me. I can imagine the best results are definitely achieved on pre-lightened and bleached hair but this shows that some still can work quite successfully on natural hair.

OK so first of, this dye is amazing, however it will be a lot better on pre-bleached hair.i have naturally dark brown/black hair and bleached it right before applying this hair dye.the bleach i used didn't work miracles, however that's not what im reviewing. So, to start with, i seriously suggest i getting a few things before you start.a tinting brush(some companys are supplying one with the dye , if they dont you can pick on up seriously cheap)vasaline, not the expensive kind all you need is a "cheap as chips" one that you can pick upface clarifying lotions or face toner, this is the only thing that i found that will take ALL the dye of your skin(you may want a few cotton balls to go with this)and the most important thing,GLOVES! do not try and dye your hair without these, you will regret it and once that dye gets on your nails you've got no hope getting it off for a good few days.and an old towel thats so old its threadbare or one that's already got hair dye all over itonce you have these things your prety mush setso lets start :)make sure when your applying this dye in a very easily cleanable area (the dining room with cream carpet was not a good idea!) do not use this with dirty hair, the result will not be right so wash it first with a ph balanced shampoo and towel dry the hair so your hair pores are still open, then coat, and i do mean coat your hairline and neck (and whole face just for good measure) with vasaline, it will get everywhere. apply generously all over the hair (i have chin length hair and used half a pot) once you have finished covering your hair, i suggest you either wrap it in clingfilm or put a shower cap on and leave it forever how long you want, its basically a vegetable dye so will not harm your hair in any way if you leave it on too long. once you hair is all up and out of your face, start using the clarifying lotion or toner to get the dye of your neck and face, i used superdrugs own brand and it picked it up state away.once your ready to take the dye out of your hair, run it under cool water until it runs lilac or a very pale purple, for the next few weeks thats the colour that its going to run everytime you have a shower( i have a tip for this in a min)once the hair is running that colour, DO NOT USE SHAMPOO, coat your hair with conditioner and then rinse that out, either towel dye or use a hair dryer to dry your hair do not go to bed with wet hair your bed sheets will be ruined.so thats the dying process done, now upkeep.as you should know, water alone will clean your hair, but if you like your hair extra soft use this tip.Pick up a shower cap and some cheap hair conditioner ( i picked up a 1 ltr one for 30p in asda)got these?once your ready to have a shower(or bath whatever) coat your hair in that conditioner before you get in the shower, comb it through and then put it in that shower cap, have your shower as usual,DO NOT WASH YOU HAIR, then get out of the shower.you then take your hair out of the shower cap and rinse all that conditioner, this will help your colour stay and keep your hair squeeky clean, shove it in a towel and style as normal.thats what ive done for the last week and my hair colour is still as vibrant and clean as the first time i washed my hair after dying, shampoo will strip your hair of your colour so you will want to stay away from it like the plague, it is not your friend with this dyeand another thing, please, please, please, if your going out in the rain, put a hat on, or get an umbrella the hair colour will run in it.this hair dye is great so long as you know what your doing, so i hoped this helped your search for a good colour and wont screw up your hairand thanks for reading my review :)

Overall review: amazing. Read on specifics on the white toner, blue lagoon, purple (violet) and pink (Pastel) dyes on blonde and darker hair.Reviewing because of the mixed reviews and believe my experiences would be helpful.Pastel pink on bleach blonde hair: highly recommendThis was lovely, it came out a lovely baby pink, I put it on for a festival and it looked great 'brushed' into my hair. However it lasted much longer than i would have liked. It states it will wash out in a few washes, however i found it to be around 3 weeks even for such a light colour.Blue Lagoon on bleach blonde hair: highly recommendThis worked amazing! the blue was such a nice blue colour, bright but not ott.I also loved it because it makes your hair super soft, even after you've bleached your hair! (After a few days I also added in the violet purple and they complimented each other perfectly!) I dyed this the first day of the summer holidays when I was in 6th form. It lasted the whole holiday, around 7-10 weeks. Only at the end of that period did it start to fade to a slight green colour. This, or any other bright colour is probably not the colour for you if you have bleached hair and only want it for a short period of time, as this would have lasted a longer time if I hadn't dyed over.As I mentioned it was going a slight green colour, when I tried to bleach over it turned a (lovely) bright baby blue, which I would have loved to keep. However I ended up dying my hair black.Purple (Violet) on previously bleached gone wrong black hair: Highly recommend. When I had black hair I bleached a section of this, when I then went to dye it black again (with a different box dye) it went slightly green. So as I had some of this leftover I put this on that section of hair, it went surprisingly well, although this may be becasue although it was dying black hair there was blonde underneath, it left my hair a lovely 'cadbury' (the packaging) colour, which I loved. It was hardly noticeable in the dark however when outside or under light it gave a lovely purple glow.White Toner on Blonde hair: Good, by be wary.I dyed my hair blonde, and as my hair had the leftovers of box dye the ends didnt take when I first toned it but my roots did. So I decided to try this. Out of all the dyes I was most dissapointed by this one. My roots - which were very blonde / slightly white turned a lilac colour, this faded a bit after a few washes to a white silver colour. The lengths which were more yellowy orange didn't improve dramatically, although they did slightly, so if your whole head is yellow orange it may help, but if part is already the white you want I'd stay away.SIDE NOTES:With the colours you can leave them on for longer than it states, however the toner I wouldn't leave on for much longer than it suggests because there is a risk of it going purple. With the toner: start from the ends and then go to the roots, although harder it means the lengths get more exposure.Don't dye on blonde hair unless you don't have to have the colour gone by a particular time (e.g. in holidays)Don't expect the colours to hold to or stay in your hair for long unless your hair is bleach blonde.I had short 'miley cyrus' hair (short sides long top) and as I had thick hair I used nearly the whole jar. If you have thick hair get a few. If you have thin then one will probably do whatever the length.thats it ! hope this helps.

I decided to buy the Plum Directions after having a go with stargazer dyes - they were ok but washed out rather quickly and I wanted something vibrant that would last. I used the dye on my non-bleached, blonde hair that was bone dry as with the stargazer brand I'd tried towel-dry/wet hair at first and non of the dye had stuck so from then onwards with vegetable dyes I always use dry hair. A tint brush is invaluable for this dye and the pot makes it really easy to use one to apply it. I bought the 88ml tub and only used half for my (admittedly thin) shoulder-length hair so for me it was great value for money too! One thing to mention is that the tubs do not come with vinyl gloves so make sure you have plenty in for the process.I left it in for 2 hours, wrapping my hair in cling-film (again, 15 minutes is not enough) heating it with a hair-dryer occasionally. After rinsing, my hair is a gorgeous, very vibrant purple and it looks and feels amazing. Although I tried to rinse it out very thoroughly, there has been some bleeding of the colour onto my neck and my boyfriends face in the night (oops!) so if you have a very dark colour maybe sleep on a towel until your first wash. This dye is a bit of a beast for staining - do not do what I did and throw away your only pair of vinyl gloves when you finish dyeing it as my purple hands will attest to the fact that the rinsing is just as bad. Use Vaseline for your hair line and I found that my tea-tree and peppermint facial wash was better than soap, scrub or even bleach for getting it off my skin. The bleach is much better for the sink and bath though! Also don't forget to do a patch test 48 hours before dyeing (just pop a bit on the inside of your elbow and leave it, covering with a plaster if you want) to test for an allergic reaction and do a strand test to see what the colour will be like. I very bravely went from blonde to purple without a strand test but I love it!I'll write an update with how long this colour lasts for.Highly recommended!EDIT: The colour stayed for quite a long time, I had a bit of fading at the roots but just reapplied and added a little bit of the dye to my conditioner to keep it looking great. The real problem with this product is getting rid of it though. I think the main problem is the colour that I chose (Plum) as it is a very blue product so to get it back to my natural blonde it had to go through grey first (if it was a redder product you'd go ginger). I needed to get it off quickly for a job though so I tried a colour stripper which is not recommended unless you're in a rush as my hair still smells bad when it gets wet and its been months. The stripper got rid of the vast majority of it but left me looking very grey. Having only a week to look less like a crazy granny I washed my hair every day with tea-tree shampoo leaving the shampoo in for a few hours before rinsing it out. By the end of the week I only had a little streak of purple left and the rest of my hair was back to blonde and that purple streak is oddly still there a few months afterwards but that might be down to the chemicals in the stripper.

I bought this for my wife, this is her review.Really, really pleased with this colour. I like to colour my hair a very deep black but I find they fade quite quickly and I was doing it every other month which was starting to damage my hair, so I got the ebony to try, when I opened it I was a little worried, I like the blue black type colours and this looked a sort of reddish dark brown colour, when on though (or on your skin or any other surface) it's more of a blue black. I didn't bleach or pre lighten my hair, it was already dyed black, I used two tubs to completely cover my bra strap length hair although I think for reapplications it will only need one, one and a half at most,my hair was washed and towel dried, and I left it on for about two hours. I used Vaseline all around my hairline and on my ears as I know this can really stain your skin, and I wore thick yellow rubber gloves and applied it with my hands rather than a tint brush as I was doing all over. I also had plenty of bleach on hand as this really stains your bath and sink. If you do get it on your skin get it off quickly and it doesn't stain then. The colour is amazing, I'm really pleased with it, I wanted a really Deep black like the pictures of really classy forties film stars, but without chemicals and this is it, my hair is soft and shiny after using too. I will say make sure you rinse it all out properly as I had to go back and do it again as I could feel it still in my hair as I was drying it. It really is worth the extra effort it looks and feels great and you don't have to bleach to get it right. I will admit my scalp is a little blue but that's a small price to pay for the colour I want without the damage, and it hasn't stained my pillow like other reviewers have mentioned, I think they haven't rinsed properly. I'm now thinking of mixing the ebony and midnight blue. Will update as to how long its lasts before needing reapplication.UPDATE: After four boxes of hair colour remover my hair was almost my natural dark brown, I have just applied one tub of midnight blue mixed with a little conditioner, I put it on dry hair and left it on for about two hours and I am sooooo pleased with the result. Its a very dark subtle blue, it almost looks black at a distance then you see the blue as you get nearer, under the light the blue is much more obvious but still subtle. Before deciding to try this I had also had a go at mixing a full pot of ebony with three quarter of midnight blue and got a gorgeous intense blue black. You can experiment with these colours and you don't need bleach.

I used Rubine mixed with a good dollop of Rose Red. My hair is light brown with very light blonde natural streaks and I have bleach on my lengths.I like Directions and Crazy Color for fun colour changes. I find Directions less runny, so chose it this time for a messy red colour change!Easy to apply. I do it on damp hair with gloves, like applying a thorough conditioning mask, just because I hate messing about with brushes etc. I combed it through and piled on top my head and out a shower cap on. Left for about half an hour.I got a lovely shiny rich burgundy on the light brown parts and bright, deep fuchsia on my bleached lengths and lighter bits. HOWEVER,the water NEVER ran remotely clear and the colour was coming off on everything...clothes, bedding, face.Despite liking the colour I washed it about 8 times over a few days with dandruff shampoo to try and get the excess leaking colour off (maybe used too much colour? ??‍♀️).The darker parts have faded a fair bit, and the excess dye on my scalp has gone, the ends remain vibrant fuchsia. The transfer of colour has stopped a bit, but I still get some staining on clothes and bedding and the water is bright pink when I wash my hair. So, the colour and shine is gorgeous. I got a nice even result (I knew my bleached ends would be mega bright of course) However, I could only whole heartedly recommend if you never a) ☔ get caught in the rain b) ⛹️‍♀️work up a sweat c) ?‍♀️ swim d) like nice bedding. At the moment I have to carefully choose my clothing and activities! It's worth saying that most of this excess colour is probably coming from my bleached lengths as it's more porous of course, and if your hair is all previoisly undyed it probably won't be quite so dramatic. The dye does come off fairly well from most things btw, eventually, but don't risk your best white anything for goodness sake!!If you don't go into the great outdoors/swim and never intend on getting sweaty, then no problem! ?Please tap "Helpful" ⬇️ if my review has been useful or interesting.Thank you! ? Makes me feel I'm not completely talking to myself here ?All my reviews are genuine and I always update them if I have any issues further down the line with the item.Consumer power! ?How do we know if something's any good unless genuine people leave reviews?

Having spent months dying my hair red using the XXL Live range of hair dyes, I decided to try this after watching people's reviews on YouTube. The tubs aren't all that big, it's only 88ml but one pot goes a long way, I have thick hair in a bob and I only had to use half a tub of dye. I can use the other half to touch up my routes and because it contains no harsh chemicals or ammonia the pots are safe to keep for as long as you like. They are cheaper than boxes of dye in shops and last longer! I spent a long time and lots of money trying to get my hair the perfect shade of red, I stuck with XXL for a while but found they didn't quite give me the right shade and turned a rusty colour as theyfaded.I decided that if I was going to keep dying my hair red I would be better off using a temporary dye with no ammonia as this can be very damaging to your hair. I gave this 4 stars because the only problem I had with it is that it was very messy and stains everything it touches and if I had to nitpick then I would say that they should also provide plastic gloves with the tubs as I had to use rubber gloves but that's just nitpicking as plastic gloves can easily be bought from the supermarket. I found it very easy to use, I simply used a tint brush on my roots and then I used my hands to apply the rest, the texture is a bit like hair gel and there's no nasty ammonia smell. It says on the tub to leave it on for just 15 minutes but as there is nothing in it to damage your hair I just left it on for 45 mins to make sure it sunk into my hair. Be careful when you rinse it off though because it goes EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!After blow drying at first my hair looked dark but the next day it was bright red and the perfect shade I'd been trying to find, it left my hair very soft and silky and I also find that a lot of people will look at your hair and notice it a lot more after dying it this shade so if you don't like people staring at you then this dye is not for you. I used my dye on unbleached hair, my hair only had one of the XXL red dyes on which had faded so you don't need to bleach your hair before using this. I would definitely recommend this dye and I will continue to use it as I'm so happy with the results.

I'm ALWAYS changing the colour of my hair but after bleaching it for a while I decided to give it a break and only use dyes that didnt require pre-bleaching.I did my research and after reading alot of good reviews on the net about La Riche I decided to try it out- at around £3.50 a pot I thought it seemed a reasonable price and I could always dye it back if I didn't like it.I was a dark red colour when I purchased my first pot and decided to stick to something that I knew would take to my hair, therefore I chose the Rose Red shade. The pot itself looks fairly small and the consistancy of the dye is gel like and easy to apply, although you need to wear latex gloves or it will stain your skin.I have a 20" weave of natural human hair but decided to chance only buying one pot, which I managed to cover my whole head with. I mixed a little white conditioner in to it to thicken it up a bit before I started. The initial application was easy enough. I applied vaseline around my hairline and ears but still ended up with staining though. The instructions say to leave it on for 15mins but as it only contains natural ingrediants and nothing harmful, I decided to leave it on for 35mins. I covered it with a bag and waited.I started by rinsing it over the bath and the water was bright purple and didnt seem to be running clear (although I had read that this was normal) The bath also stained a lovely purple colour but this came off easily with a bit of bleach. I rinsed for about 10mins and decided to dry by hair and see how it had turned out. I was very pleased with the colour however I noticed that it was staining my fingers when drying it so I decided to hop in the shower and rinse it again...leaving me with a stained back this time. The water ended up running a violet colour but wouldnt run completely clear. I left to dry naturally this time as by now every part of me was a faded purple colour!Overall I am very pleased with the result and would use this dye again as there is not really any need to pre-bleach. However, the only downfall was the staining and I'll be sleeping on a towel tonight to save my pillows!

Fabulous product I always buy mine through beautiful 24 on Amazon, they offer 4 tubs of your own preference, never had any problems with delivery the staff are very good and very helpfully.I Would recommend bleaching hair first to get a better depth of colour.I usually highlight my hair then apply the colour on top so you get more vibrant and tonal shades instead of a solid colour block(I am a hairdresser so that helps) I leave the colour for over an hour to develop as the colour is semi permanent this won't harm your hair at all, again before you start put on Vaseline around your hairline, ears and back of your head,Gloves at least 2 pairs, tinting brush(so you can apply easily down to the roots)old towel.Once you have applied to the roots too approx half the hair shaft apply then to the ends and massage the colour in all the way down to the scalp for an even coverage,The hair will always be more porous at the front quadrant as this more open to the elements so will be more vibrant so you may want to apply to this area last depending on what look you are hoping to achieve. One pot will last for at least 2 applications,I have shortish hair mine lasts for 4 or 5 applications but part of the reason for that is I use a combination of different shades of purple(quite easy too clean off if splashes)(if you get cerise or carnations pink it is much harder to get off,I use a bathroom spray spray it all over basin before I start so when I'm rinsing my hair it mingled with the bathroom spray making it a bit easier to clean. When you rinse your hair rinse until water comes clear keep gloves on whilst rinsing and drying your hair and use a dark pillowcase when sleeping for first night as you will still get colour residue.I have used many different semi permanent colours and this by far I find the best but before starting if you are unsure do a strand test to see depth of colour and then you can vary the developing time also ask a friend to help, happy colouring and remember beautiful 24 supply 4 bottles for £12 your choice of colours .

Okidoki lets start from the beginning.I have naturaly mousy blonde/brown hair which I have bleached all over for years because I love being blonde, but in the past few years have been striving for that perfect clean white blonde (like platinum blonde) but I always find I'm left with that unfortunate yellow banding after a full root bleach and tone done in my local salon, and with a special event happening this Halloween yellow tones simply wouldn't do.So I bought this on 8.10.15 on a whim after seeing some positive reviews, it arrived on 11.10.15 in a box far too big for its little 88ml size but ho hum.Having never used directions before and starting a new job I wasn't about to risk adverse effects,so patch test done I did a strand test to see what would happen.Following guidelines, I washed a section of hair, towel dried and applied some about 2inches away from my scalp, wrapped in foil and left for 15 mins. The ends had gone a nice clean white but the top section had gone a lilac colour similar to in the tub which wasn't ideal but it only being a small section i didn't mind. After 2 days and no reaction to the patch test I did my whole head but alittle differently than directed.Hair washed and rough dried I applied the toner to the mid lengths and ends then left for 10-15 mins, after I used remainder of tub on my roots and left for roughly 20 mins, rinsed well with lukewarm water then sealed with a purple conditioner.OH MY GOD! I could not believe the results! Even damp I could see how much of the yellow tones had gone and despite a few lilac patches I am thrilled to find a toner that works for me first time, probably the only negative is 88ml just wasn't quite enough for me, but I managed to cover with alittle massaging in.So all in all, good delivery, silly packaging, hardly any odour when applying, excellent results and hair doesn't feel crap, but not quite enough in the tub, would probably need 2 for a more decent coverage.

This shade is a pale wine red in some lights, magenta pink in others and I receive many compliments on it. The product is very thick and highly pigmented, I water it down a little to make application easier. With the following method I still have a rich/ bright colour after two to four months. My colour looks better and my hair healthier than when I used Schwarzkopf Live XXL refreshing the lengths every six to eight weeks.I do not use persulphate bleach on my hair or skin, instead using a weak peroxide-only blonde box dye to lift to a dark blonde; do not use the box conditioner instead a cheap light silicone free and oil free conditioner. I find this method gentler on skin and hair, more controllable result, more even colour and porosity. The following day I coat my hairline, ears and 'sideburns' areas with shea butter to reduce staining before splitting hair into twisted and clipped sections. Starting at the crown I apply Directions with a brush section by section to the roots only, finishing with the entire hairline. Then cover with a shower cap and leave for up to two hours, never bothered to use any more heat than that of my head.I then apply plenty of the same cheap light conditioner to the roots squeezing and massaging with the Directions already in my hair, spreading the mixture through to the ends, rinsing immediately if the lengths do not need 'refreshing' or up to fifteen minutes if they do. Finally I conditioner-only wash the whole mess out and clean my skin with nail polish remover.Any run off or splashes come off bathroom fittings and tile grout easily with household bleach, do not scrub spray and leave to soak. Doesn't come off nails, flooring or clothing as easily so protect everything, use white towels that can be bleached. I get least bleeding with conditioner-only washing in cool water followed by a leave in conditioner, I get most bleeding with commercial high foam shampoo (even colour care) and/ or hot water.

So I am directions virgin and I decided that after reading through the reviews I thought I would give it a go. Was a little worried that there wouldn’t be enough as I have quite long thick hair, normally I use the Schwarzkopf hair dyes and I need two boxes. Anyway... I carried on and I was amazed that actually there was enough in that little pot to do my hair! I went with the cerise colour just cos since turning 40 and discovering a grey hair or two I needed something bold. I left it on for about 15 minutes maybe slightly over as I was worried my hair might go vibrant pink! I should really have done a before and after picture but totally forgot...to give you an idea my hair colour before I dyed it was a mousy brown colour darker at the top and lighter at the bottom (probably from previously colouring my hair). As you can see from the photos my hair took really well to the dye and it is darker at the top still but almost like a purple colour (pictures don’t do it justice) with the bottom part of my hair looking much brighter. I have to say I did wear gloves whilst applying this but I did manage to cover my head, ears and neck in pink dye. It did come off pretty well but still it is very messy if your doing it yourself like me. I didn’t use a brush I just rubbed it all through my hair and hoped for the best but as you can see I didn’t do a bad job. I’m definitely going to buy more of these hair dyes probably this one again as I really like it. If your hair is dark or medium brown and you want the bold pink colour you will need to bleach or lighten it first I might do that next time.. I am impressed with how quick it took most dyes require at least 25 mins. There isn’t really a smell to this pot either so you don’t get that ammonia smell. Hope you find the review helpful... I would definitely recommend!

Oh my word! This has to be the strongest colour in the world, and I am no stranger to the Directions colours.I was aiming for a hint of pink in my hair which is fighting a battle with the bleach.I was trying to be kind and only used 30% vol developer, but it backfired and I got the dreaded yellow roots on much lighter mid to end section, and was bored of playing russian roulette with purple this that and the other to try and even things out,so I went and tinted the rest darker to match and thought,I know,a bit of pink will make a change.....So this dark tulip arrived and I was in love.A proper pink, not a bit of orange in sight (Its a thing I have, blame my brother,I hate orange red)I always mix Directions with a bit (OKI a lot)of conditioner at first, just to get a feel for the colour, this possibly saved my life (Joke...maybe)In a wild reckless moment I dollopped conditioner on my hand, dipped my ring finger almost to the end of the nail (See,daring stuff) and introduced deep tulip to some deep creamy mounds of conditioner. Then everything went very quiet. As my finger escaped there was a deep trail of proper pink.Proper STRONG pink.I rubbed my hands together and OH MY ......(use your imagination, and yes it rhymes with look) my hands turned deep pink.Deep, deep pink.Well I had to did'nt I? I could not waste this amazingly pink goo.I slapped both hands on my head and the pink kind of ran through my fingers, all the way to the ends of my hair.I was not wearing gloves and thats when I saw my hands and panicked, they too where the deepest pink....so what the heck was on my near white recently bleached hair??You have never seen me get the shower blasting so fast before. So now, about a week later, the palms of my hands had an entertaing day or so,but nothing big,my hair on the other hand..WOW.

This stuff is awesome. I've bleached my naturally blonde hair for the last 31 years trying (& always failing!) to achieve a white blonde. I've purchased every blue/violet shampoo available & although they do work well in reducing/eliminating the yellow brassy tones, I've never managed to achieve platinum perfection. I bought this after being impressed with the results my daughter had with the turqoise one, but when it came & I opened it I was incredibly disappointed. It's a pale violet colour, no discernable scent & a wierd (not unpleasant) slimy texture. I held out no hope of it doing anything at all to be honest. Anyway, bleached roots, then shampoo'd hair & as per instructions applied this for 15 minutes.Rinsed hair, conditioned it, then left it to air dry naturally. I'm honestly in total shock, I now have stunning, white blonde/platinum hair!! I'm truly amazed at how brilliant it is, if you saw it in the tub you just wouldn't believe it could do anything at all, let alone create the results it has. I've still got half the tub left too (even though I have waist length hair!) so I'll get 2 goes out of it. A little seems to go a long way. I think in future I'll condition my hair before I use it though, as because my hair is like straw before conditioning it was really hard to spread it evenly throughout my hair (it felt saturated) but I didn't do a completely even job as I've got a couple of patches where I clearly didn't put enough and/or put too much. My own fault though, so not complaining, just hopefully giving a helpful tip. I didn't condition as I thought it might affect the efficacy of the product, but having used it now & seeing how good it is, I think I could/should have conditioned to ensure even coverage. Cannot recommend this enough.
