This was the first time I dyed my hair and I made the brave decision to do it myself (as I was bored during Lockdown). It was really simple, easy to mix and apply on the hair. It comes with the instructions and you can just follow that.I actually wanted a subtle balayage finish and therefore didn’t use the bottle provided. I instead had a mixing bowl and a brush and cut up some foil to replicate what they do at salons. There’s a lot of YouTube videos that you can find that do just that. I watched a lot of different ones, and for my hair type before doing it myself. I definitely recommend checking them out if your not experienced in dying your hair.As for the result, I was quite happy.Firstly because I have very dark brown hair (almost looks black), it’s the darkest shade you can have, so I knew seeing any colour without bleach/lightning would be close to impossible. I therefore just wanted to experiment with a colour that was very bright and just on the ends of my hair. (So if it did look awful I could just chop the ends off). The first time I attempted it, the colour came out brown, and looked lighter in some shades of light but it was difficult to catch on camera. Sometimes there was shades of red and purple. It basically changed everyday, getting lighter.I wanted to see more result and therefore bought another box, and repeated the process. This time the result was noticeable in any light. I achieved a brown/ginger red tone to my ends. I was happy with this, the technique I used also made sure it was a gradual blend upwards so it didn’t look bad.I also have curly/wavy, hair so it’s easier to cover up mistakes then on straight hair.My hair is thick so I needed more product and bought more boxes. I used three in total, two in on go and one just by itself. The second time I left it longer than recommended and that worked on my hair a lot better.I think it’s best to just rinse and dry one piece of hair and see if the colours shows as you want it, if not then leave it for longer.I also wanted to really experiment with this colour and see what it would look like on my roots (I definitely don’t recommend anyone to try this), but I ended up with hot roots. (It’s not the fault of the product, but just something I wanted to try to see how the colour would look on me if I had lighter hair).I’ve bought this brought in 5.3 in golden brown too, to complete the balayage look. (It was the same price at Tesco). In all I’m very happy with the product and the experimenting was fun.Pros:- No smell of dye- Easy application- Quick results- Lots of colours to pick from- Good price- Decent size (unless u have long thick hair, you’ll need more).- Long lasting colourCons:- My hair became very dry gradually. You have to keep on top of conditioning your hair and use hair serums and oils to keep the smoothness. I have frizzy hair and I needed to do more caring for my hair afterwards. Although the immediate result will give you very smooth shiny hair, after 5-6 washes it became dry. There is however enough conditioner to last you a while. Just don’t forget to use it.- ALERT: Does not cover greys ! (I have a couple greys it did not cover them, it did however colour my brown hair).

My previous colour:Before I dyed it, my hair had a few inches of my natural dark brown colour and the rest, past my shoulders was a very light gingery brown with some of the ends so white they almost were see-through.Was there enough dye for even coverage?I got two boxes to be safe. I have very thick curly afro 3c/4a hair that is touching my shoulder blades when stretched and had to use one box per side of my head. It was only just enough to do my whole head but everyone is different. I recently used Garnier Olia in a red shade to dye my caucasian friend's straight hair which is way past her shoulders and one box was just enough for the entire head. If you aren't sure, always get an extra one at the ready otherwise you may end up with a patchy colour. The colour/result:Overall, I was very pleased. I was looking for a brown as dark as possible without going black because black looks very fake on my skin-tone. The colour did come out black like some reviewers on other sites like Boots pointed out, but I'm still happy because I knew what I was signing up for and know it will fade over time and I wanted it as dark as possible initially. Under bright lights it does look dark brown, otherwise it looks very black. But I'm happy because it is incredibly shiny and looks healthier than it did before. This was my main reason for attempting to go back to my natural colour, though my hair is healthy, the light colour was making my hair look thinner and drier than it was.Further comments:I highly recommend not using the bottle they give you. Other reviews have pointed out it is a very cute tear drop design but incredibly hard to hold. It wouldn't say it was that hard but it definitely doesn't help when you're trying to move quickly and not drop dye everywhere. Use the gloves and apply it by hand or with a tint brush after pouring it into a hair dye mixing bowl (or one you don't mind staining). This way you can get every last drop and it is very easy to apply. It did get on my shoulders and back but came right off when I had a shower, I got a tiny drop on one of my painted walls and it isn't coming off but I have done this before and it does fade completely over time if you wipe it off the minute you get it on there.Would I recommend it?In short, yes. It smells significantly nicer than any other dye I've used before which smell strongly of ammonia. If you're particularly sensitive to those scents I definitely recommend the dye for this. It took to my whole head, even though my colour was very uneven before I dyed it, the dye gave an even shade all over without looking fake or blocky. But I'd warn that if you're looking for something make your hair dark brown, you might want to go a shade lighter otherwise you're going to get black.

I have been trying different options since I had a really bad reaction to L'Oreal Preference which I had been using for years (it made me feel physically sick). I have used Olia four times now and I like the mix much better, as it does not contain ammonia. I find it easier to use, it sticks beautifully without dripping and does not have that horrible strong smell. After a disappointing result the first time, I now keep it on my hair for a full hour (which is normal for me, I have to do that with other brands as well). My natural hair is now salt-and-pepper, not white enough to look good. With darker shades, Olia does cover the grey but leaves the roots lighter than the rest, which is annoying because otherwise the colour looks quite natural. A word of warning: during processing, the mixture takes on an alarming carrot, pink, orange hue, which disappears upon rinsing. So don't be scared if you see that. The gloves are thin but adequate for one-time use and easy to put on and remove. The creams are easy to mix but I find the tubes very slippery and difficult to squeeze. The conditioner is one of the better ones and there is enough for multiple applications. What I really dislike is the shape of the mixing container. It's difficult to hold and to get the last third of the mix, I have to open it and dip my hair inside it. As with others, there is not enough mixture to cover all my shoulder-length hair. I really think these products should come in short-hair and long-hair versions. I would pay an extra couple of pounds for the larger bottle, but refuse to use two at a time. This shade 6.3 Golden Light Brown is very close to my original natural colour. I was very pleased with the way it harmonized with my skin tone. In winter my face pales considerably and with too-dark hair, it tends to look tired and washed out. If I go too light blonde, it looks dull and boring, so getting the shade just right is important. If you are looking for a very natural, soft colour that flatters most complexions, this is a good option. Despite the slippery container and packaging, I'm giving this five stars because, although not perfect, it's my favourite hair colour at the moment. After an initial settling period, the colour stays true and my hair really loves the oily formula, it makes is shiny and very soft.

I wanted to try an ammonia free dye for brunette hair and since this colour looked lovely I decided to give this a go. Though the picture in the light might make my hair look a lot lighter brown, my hair is dark brown just like the darkest brown Swatch on the back of the box. My hair was also completely natural and undyed/unbleached for reference. When applying it, the dye was very runny which made is much easier than othe brands I've used to spread onto your hair. Although it didn't drip off my hair at all, be wary when it's in your hands because it's a lot runnier than you'd think! My only problem with the dye is eventually your hair gets incredibly stiff (but not dry),the to point I couldn't run my fingers through it. I would highly recommend using a very wide-toothed comb while you apply as that can get through the stiff hair easily. The smell was very faint and pleasant, great if you struggle with strong scents (especially if like myself you're migraine prone). It was a massive improvement compared to opening loads of windows and still choking like I have with other dyes!Just to be safe I always leave the dye on for about 1 hour, as I did this time, to make sure it gets into my hair as it's quite dark. Once I'd rinsed out the colour and dried it, it looked a lot more red than I had anticipated and was almost disappointed. As I had suspected though, the colour was extra intense because of how long I left it on for as when I did my first shampoo, the colour looked exactly as it did on the box, and overall beautiful!I also have to praise it's longevity as it has only now started to fade after 4 weeks, which is all the more brilliant considering I haven't used colour protect shampoo or conditioner to make it last longer, so if you were to use colour protecting products I imagine it would last much longer.Overall I would highly recommend, especially for natural brunettes that want visibly noticeable colouring in their hair without bleaching. Usually most colours only give my hair a coloured tint in the sun, but this dye actually coloured my hair and was visible in all lights.

I have naturally black hair, but over the years parts of it have lightened due to various things, especially the ends (and of course there is the now ever increasing grey that stands out a mile on dark hair, but we won't mention that...)I've shied away from dying my hair for some time due to a particularly bad experience several years ago which messed my hair up and also the dye stank to high heaven, but I wanted to brave it again.I also didn't want a blue-black dye as that would be too harsh these days, but this looked like a nice colour.I will start off by saying this dye did not smell hideous, which was a tick in my box straight away. The dye application with the gloves provided was straightforward and the instructions were clear.I have very long hair (almost waist length) and I probably could have done with two packs to ensure I'd got everything covered, but I managed with the one, although not quite as heavy an application as I would have preferred to ensure 100% coverage. After development and applying the (nice-smelling) conditioner, it took some time to get all of the residue out, but no longer than I would expect based on past experiences. The colour was nice and did cover most of the lighter parts of my hair and most of the grey. The fact that any remained was, I think, more to do with the length of my hair, as mentioned earlier, rather than anything else.My hair was left glossy and I wasn't left wandering around smelling like a baby's nappy, which was good! Also, being sensitive to a lot of chemicals, I'm always wary of the possibility of an allergic reaction, but I was fine with this dye. I would, however, always advise people to take a patch test first - especially with it being a dark colour, but it does also state this very clearly on the instructions.I don't know how long the colour will stay as I only applied this last week, but so far, so good.Overall, a decent dye - nice colour and no lasting smell. I'd use it again.

I like the product, it was easy to apply. I'm out of practice with hair dyes, having not used a home kit for quite a while, so I was quite impressed that I didn't drip dye everywhere when I applied it. Also, it was fabulous not to have the eye watering ammonia on my head for half an hour. Plus, there was very little skin staining (although I did apply Vaseline to the hot spots on my ears and forehead/hairline.Less positive was that I wasn't aware that I would need two boxes for my mid length and average thickness hair on the first application The results were really patchy along the lengths of my hair with some areas where I'd clearly not applied enough. I had to buy a second box and reapply it.I'd like to think that now I have the "base colour", I wouldn't need to top up my colour with two packs in future, but I don't know about that one until I try it.Also, the resultant colour is a very reddish shade of purple and really quite dark on my mid brown hair. It's taken the shade of my hair to a much darker brown and the purple is not overly noticeable without having full light on it. It kind of just looks a very, very dark brown in dark lighting. I think I expected something a little more vivid on my hair based on the box images. It's a nice colour, don't get me wrong, but it's not very close to expectations and darker than I wanted.I might or might not choose this shade again, but I think the product itself is very good. I really don't know why manufacturers can't make our lives easier and produce a larger product size for first time applications or longer, thicker hair, instead of us needing to buy two boxes to get the results!Anyway, I've bought a different brand with a different purple to try once this colour fades; I don't doubt I'll be less impressed with the ammonia though!

I usually use Nice n Easy's "natural medium brown" but found myself unable to get to the shoo and in desperate need of a redye after not doing it for 2 months. So Amazon Prime was my only option to get my dye fast. However my usual dye isn't stocked by amazon so I had to set out on a hunt to find the most similar colour I could.I bought Olia because I've used it before and liked it. I used to use it for blonde hair though. So I figured that i'd just go for the basic "brown"Mixing the chemicals was just like doing so with any other homedye kit. Nothing much new apart from the fact that the developer creme comes in a large tube...which cligs on to the product. I could squeeze this tube all day and not get all of the creme out.I actually cut the top of the tube open to find that there was a lot of creme left in there that just wasn't coming out. I then scooped this into my Application bottle. The rest was simple enough. Combine chemicals. Shake. Apply. Easy. The consistency of the dye is very creamy and there is absolutely no smell which makes a great change from my usual Nice n Easy, as that dye smells very strong indeed.Yet once again I found myself opening the application bottle and scooping out a LOAD of dye that had stuck to the sides of the bottles and simply wasn't coming out.The colour is nice. It's a good close match to my usual "natural medium brown" although slightly darker, but not enough to be able to tell a real difference.Gets a 4 star rating as the product is good but if I hadn't have cut open the creme tube and opened and scooped.around the sides of the applicator bottle I would have thrown a lot of dye away. They do need to rethink the packaging design to reduce the amount of product waste.

My hair is naturally chestnut but currently a dark brown due to having been previously dyed black - the colour didn't come out nearly as red as the colour on the packing, but the colour guide does indicate that and it's only to be expected that you can't dye a dark brown a lighter colour without first lightening the hair, thus the product did perform as expected giving me a bit more of a red dark brown. Note that I've around an inch of root regrowth and some gray hairs, this product was able to cover them all without issue and it didn't dye the natural hair a brighter shade. It's also worth noting that I have straight thin fine shoulder-length hair so this was enough for me,but those with longer or thicker hair may need more product.I have used Olia in the past and it's done me well, it's not as messy or difficult to apply as some brands but nor is it particularly stand-out in it's ease of application either, I'd say it's a good standard home hair dye to grab and this is a popular shade which seems to come out true. To apply mix the developer and colourant in the applicator bottle and apply the mix (a patch test is recommended to check shade and for allergic reaction), 30 minutes then time to rinse and apply the after care conditioner - the conditioner is the best part of this product, it leaves hair lovely! The problem with this is the same problem with so many at-home hair dyes, it does tend to fade too quickly - I wash my hair daily due to work and the gym so my hair does tend to fade quickly, but this was a little more obvious a fade than I was expecting. My hair is still a nice shade and I would use again but it doesn't stay the original vibrant colour for very long, or at least it hasn't done on my hair.

I do not usually review but after not finding other reviews very helpful i feel i need to! This hair dye is the best I've used from Garnier. I needed my hair doing and my hairdresser was on holiday so i decided to do it myself..... i love holly wills blonde colour so went straight to that, left me brassy but didn't leave me looking ridiculous. After reading other reviews i used the same one again to try and achieve the blonde i wanted, it just left it a darker blonde than my natural colour. So needing to correct what id done i tried the olia 10.1, left it on for 30 minutes and have great results. There is no brassy colour,i could actually see my hair turning blonder as time progressed and it's actually turned out blonde and not gingery so theres a plus point! After drying though my hair has lots of static so is going to need an intense conditioner tomorrow. Cant comment on the longevity of it yet as i only did it today. But so far so goodToday I have covered my roots, I left the colour on for 50 minutes to get the colour I wanted. I did this because when I’m at the hair dressers she leaves my colour on for over an hour for it to take properly and the last time I did it although I got the colour I liked, it wasn’t the exact colour on the box I wanted. Did the roots for 30 mins then added it to the lengths for 20 minutes. Not the best lighting in my bathroom but as you can see the blonde is blonde and not yellow/orange. The olia 10.1 deffo takes better to my hair than the nutrisse holly 10.1In between colours I have had to purple shampoo the roots with every other wash as it did start to look orange, once washed though it was blonde again .

Firstly, success. I have tried this, and it has come out really well. I have dark brown hair, and decided to leave it on for 18 minutes (the recommended minimum is 20 - but I chickened out at 18), but there is a lovely vibrancy to the red, as a deep burgundy. You can see, had I left it longer, it would have been more vibrant and a bit more towards the scarlet type red.The idea is that you first mix, placing the drop shaped bottle in the top of the cardboard box, through a handy hole which keeps it upright. Except the box was too deep for that to work well. But mixing went well. Developer and colourant emptied in, replace top and shake until an even pink. Then snap off the tip (really good design on that bit). Then apply and massage in to the hair, starting with the parting. As the process went on, I did struggle with the shape of the bottle, as my hands (in the black gloves provided), became slippy, and dropped it twice. But it did clean off the floor easily. Leave for 20 minutes or 30 for a confident vibrant look. Then rinse through until clear, and finally, apply the conditioner, then rinse off. The conditioner is lovely - I don't want to appear boastful here, but I do think my hair looks great at the moment (having just blowdried it, following the dying process).I would absolutely use this again. I do love the colour, and I'm delighted it has come out evenly across all my hair, which means it must be relatively easy to use, as if it was possible to get it coming out patchy, it would have probably happened to me.So - highly recommended.

Olia are my favourite brand of hair dyes as they are the ones that smell the nicest (i say nicest but really its the least bad, permanent hair dye stinks!)The set comes with an empty bottle. No idea why. Every other dye comes with part one in the developer nozzle bottle thing and a tube of colour cream. Why the heck they feel the need to include the developer in a separate tube, Its not good for excess packaging or weight, or shipping air! Also bad for those with a poorly grip who struggle to squeeze tubes, dont include an extra tube! Now onto the colour. Ive been dying my hair black for (oh dear) over 30 years. I use black or blue black. One look at the cover of this, inspite of it being part of midnight collection shows a picture of dark brown hair. Nope, nope, nope. I have brown hair, i was black hair, hence black hair dye. Thankfully i had a proper olia black dye so i used that!I dont use the gloves that come with these dyes, although the olia gloves are among the better quality ones, i prefer vinyl gloves as they dont rip (dont use latex, hair will stick to them!)The box has a hole in the front to stand up the nozzle bottle in but the box is so deep the bottle disappears inside the box, only the nozzle is sticking out!I love Olia dyes but just a few tweeks needed to the packaging. Its certainly the brand i search out. Will pay more attention in the future. Midnight and black doesnt always mean blue black. My hair dye always washes out to reddy brown black so im not going to start out with that colour!

I’ve dyed my hair so many colours through the years - even going fiery red during lockdown! Mostly though it’s been various shades of blonde and as I got older my grey roots didn’t do me any favours. So, after much thought and loads of research I decided to try silver hair. My first attempt wasn’t very successful and I was left purple-headed. I assumed that my light blonde hair would take silver and - well - it didn’t. I bleached my hair to almost white and my daughter applied a semi-permanent colour which was lovely for about three weeks then began fading. So I decided to give Olia Silver a try. About two hours prior to colouring I melted about a dessert spoon of organic coconut oil in the microwave and gently massaged this through my below shoulder-length hair, from root to tip. My daughter then followed instructions for the Olia and I left it on for about 20 minutes. This suited my hair because it already had a silver(ish) base. Once rinsed I followed up with the conditioner and left in on for about three minutes. It’s quite nice but I would use my Redkin conditioner next time. The towel-dried hair was liberally covered with a heat-resistant spray, mostly hair-dryer dried and I used my straighteners on a lower temp. It’s looking amazing! I absolutely love the colour and think it’s ideal for my age group (late 60’s). So, any ‘mature’ lady out there wanting a new look or just to cheer yourself up - I would say just go for it! Don’t think it’s only for younger age groups. Do it and you’ll look and feel fab

My hair was dyed dark blonde. I saw this dye, researched the reviews and went for the iced coffee thinking it would give me a warm chocolate brown. Yes its fiddle especially trying to balance the bottle in the box so for next time I've bought a bowl abd brush to apply it. I have short bobbed but extremely thick hair and bought the one box but I felt like I could've done with the two. The formula suits my thick coarse wiry hair and left it in good condition, extremely soft abd shiny. The colour....... I put it on, left for 30 mins then washed off. To say I was shocked is an understatement, the iced coffee must've meant an extremely strong Americana as the colour was black with a slight hint of brown. When I looked in the mirror I looked like Casper with black hair! . Immediately the false tan and eye make up went on. I sat out in the sun swealtering in the heat for four hours on Sunday not to get a tan but in the hope of it lightening my hair( which it didn't!) Fast forward two days and I'm actually quite used to it now and dare I say it 'like it'. I'll give it a bit longer before I decide to stick with it as on my days off and in the summer I don't mind putting in the slap But I'm back to work on Monday and have to be up at 5-30 for work The thought of getting up at 5am every day to be putting slap on my face is not sonething I'm looking forward to. If youre dark skinned with brown eyes this will look fab in you but if you are fair with green eyes like me then I'd go 20 shades lighter!!!

First attempt at a home hair dye-impressed!For info, I was a natural redhead until the colour started fading in my 40s, and I’m probably about 30% grey now. Normally get it coloured at a salon but lockdown stopped that. I chose 5.3 ‘golden brown’ as I was afraid of it ending up too gingery with anything more red.I found it very easy to mix and the long thin nozzle made it easy to apply near the roots. It was a good consistency- easy to spread and massage in, but didn’t drip. Didn’t smell strongly of hair dye. Felt very creamy, like conditioner. Left it on for about ten mins longer than I should have by accident, but hasn’t affected colour or hair condition.I’d say result was more auburn than brown, but that was ok for me as is close to my natural colour when younger- although maybe not great for someone who really does want more brown than red. Maybe that’s due to the grey hair appearing more gingery.Left my lockdown hair in pretty good condition, completely covered the grey and gave an even result. The photos I’ve included were taken about 3 weeks after application and I wash my hair every other day, so I guess it’s lasting well. The slightly more vibrant red at my temples and fringe is caused by an unfortunate earlier encounter with a Clairol ‘root touch up’ - which was awful, gave me carrot coloured roots, and was messy to apply. I bought this Garnier to to cover it up!Pretty impressed with this and may continue to use as much cheaper than having it done at the hairdresser.
