I was forced to give a high star review as our dog, Gunther, will never get over this toy.I use the word "forced" because of the the way my sweet Gunther was using it.At first I though little Gunther was just innocently sitting on one end of the toy as he was chewing the other, but upon closer inspection it appeared that this was not the case.It turned out that my dearest Gunther, had in fact, inserted the end of the toy, that was not being devoured by his meaty jaws, in to his ass. The colour poured out of my face the moment I noticed what my innocent little Gunther was doing with this toy. I didn't know whether to try any remove the toy myself, or to leave it to come out whenever little Gunther was done with it.I decided the best thing to do was to choose the latter, but with my own little twist. I decided to make Gunther a large meal of his favourite foodstuffs with a little doggy laxative added in to the mix to aid the release of the toy.Fortune was happily on my side for the time being, as a few hours later, Gunther had a healthy release and only minimal cleanup was required. I removed the toy from his sight and observed my sweet Gunther in order to make sure he was fine.It seemed fine for about 20 minutes, but then fortune decided to swiftly depart my side as I observed my darling little Gunther start inserting more and more of his toys, one by one, in to his anus. In panic I rushed to call the vet. But by the time I returned form the phone call, the majority of my dearest little Gunther's toys had disappeared. The elephant trunk toy I acquired in Baghdad, the Rubber cow I picked up for him on my trip to Nagpur. All gone. After a rather awkward trip to the vet, I am happy to say that my bonny little Gunther is healthy and fine. The only set pack being that he has to wear an anal catheter balloon during the day and a rectal plug during the night to stop him from trying to pick up an old habit. The cute little gleam in Gunther's eyes has gone, but it will always remain in my heart. My message to all dog owners is to chose your darling little pets toys carefully. I wish I had. I wish I could see Gunther smile like he used to, without a Kong Safe Stick rammed up his ass.

If your dog plays 'rough' you need toys that are tough! This is one of the best dog-proof toys I have bought. It is quite solid yet flexible, clearly hard wearing, easy to use be it for throwing or for playing tug with your dog. I recommend it. (Maybe I should now get a dog ...)The fact that I keep it just by the door in case I need to confront the local scum and bike thieves is just a coincidental bonus. Likewise, the one I have in my car and the one I carry on my bike perhaps indicates that I think it is a good value-for-money, solid, useful, multipurpose item. Size Large is best as it gives you a 70cm reach, perfect for 'swinging around'.Please be careful; you really really wouldn't want to accidentally be hit around the head with this as,for such an innocent dog toy, I'm sure it'd do some damage, if you know what I mean!!BTW, my Postie couldn't help himself but snigger; he was convinced I'd bought a double-ended sex toy!!

My friend's dog (Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mixture) is good at breaking toys but after a month this is still intact! Maybe because there's no squeaker to get out! He manages to make it squeak by jamming it under the sofa (it has wooden feet) and then tugging at it to get a squeak!I don't find it easy to throw it very far. But he loves just carrying it about and chewing it. The instructions recommend not allowing the dog to have prolonged use of it, but this dog DOES play with it whenever he wants and it's still doing well! The only disappointment is the 'random' colour. Mine is green and he can't easily see it on the grass. Why not offer a proper colour choice?Bright yellow is supposed to be an easy colour for a dog to see.I ordered the small size, but this review title was unchangeable so it says Large!

I write this review based on my decades of experiences as a dog owner and consumer. My wife and I are very familiar with this dog toy and accessory brand. It is consistently good. This dog toy follows the same superb example. The toy is made of a very hard and tough but very flexible plastic like product. My destructive spaniel loves his current green example and despite the most of a year of trying has not yet managed to damage never mind destroy it.I have no doubt that this blue version is made of the same material and just as tough. The toy is about 12 inches long with a circumference close to2.5” on the ball ends.Overall. A good dog toy, tough, long lasting and very good value especially when compared to some of the outrageous high street shop prices I have seen for the same item

My dog LOVES this, and it's lasted about ten days so far - better than most toy's I've bought her. She chews and chews it. One of the ends is starting to go, bits have come off it. I expect to have to replace it sooner rather than later for I only paid £8 for it and often spend a bit here and there on other toys that only last an hour or less. In the long run this might save me money. But it is certainly not indestructible - but it is certainly cheaper than replacing the remote control for the TV again! But my dog adores it, keeps her very happy. I hope it lasts longer than a month but I would buy one again. I've given it 4 stars because she loves it so much, had it held up a bit longer it would have reached a full five stars.I got a pink one. I think it looks hilariously like a dildo!

We have a rottweiler and toys are almost always disappointing - everything we buy her is labelled "mega-tough", "military grade", "virtually indestructible" etc - but she pieces out of them within a few seconds/minutes/hours and the toy goes into the bin to stop her choking. We've only found 3 toys so far which have resisted her bite for months. This is one. (The other is the big kong for feeding, but she finds that a bit boring. The third is a yellow rubber toy that looks a bit like a rugby ball with grooves and bristles.)Not only has she (so far) been unable to chew it to bits but she really enjoys playing with it - chasing, chewing, shaking and tugging. It doesn't look like anything special, but this was a great find and we really recommend it for ultra-strong chewers.

I am very pleased with the quality of this stick - it’s very sturdy. Can’t comment on durability if chewed as I probably have one of the few labradors that has never chewed anything! However, he is obsessed with retrieving sticks and having had a nasty accident recently involving a real stick down his throat, I ordered the medium size of this Safe Stick. He is a big strong dog, but I feel the medium size is just a bit too long and heavy and unwieldy for him. I can’t imagine what size of dog would need the large size! I am about to order the small size which I think would be far easier for us both to cope with. Just thought I would mention this to help others decide on the size.

Really should get the dogs to write this review.....I think this dog toy gets full marks on safety, durability (we've bought a few, because they do eventually wear out with a great deal of use), they are easy to throw, and the dogs never seem to get bored with it. The only downside to this product is that you can't pick which colour to buy - but since I can't decide which is easiest to find in long grass after a bad throw, I don't think that matters too much. As a size guide, we use the medium size one with dogs that are 1 Border Collie, 2 Australian Shepherds and three Aussie/Collie crosses. A visiting Cairn can carry that size - but he really could do with a smaller one.

Great toy for the cocker spaniel in the home. Floats and much safer than a stick. Sadly my good lady has poor eye sight and one day when taking the dog for a walk, she grabbed the "wrong" toy.Sadly the dog ran off during the walk. After several hours of searching the local vet called us as another dog walker had found our dog running around in a nearby field with said wrong toy.Moral of the story is keep your toys and the dog toys separated at all times as the embarrassment of going to the vets to pick up a cocker spaniel with a 14 inch bright pink vibrating double dildo with added beads is enough to kill any ego you may have.Should've taken the Mrs to Specsavers

For years I have wondered at the lack of a good quality dog chew / fetch stick combination product. Finally, Kong has vigorously filled these two gaps with one robust tool: the Safe Stix. The variety of sizes on offer will fit most mouths, although care must be taken to avoid choking during rough play. The large version is really quite weighty, and should be handled with care to avoid injury (to either play partner)! The range of colours is somewhat limited - I'd love one in purple or black - but the quality is excellent and it can be wiped clean after each session. The grooved shaft really allows for extra purchase, which my bitch really seems to appreciate.

OK, so the first one of these I bought for my Staffie didn't last very long in one piece. I was not disappointed though, I had only got it to take with us on holiday and throw in the sea. My dog loved it, and chewed it and eventually it broke in half. From that point on it was chewed relentlessly and shrunk nobble by nobble until just the larger ball bits from each end remained. I have just ordered two more, one for Xmas and one for next years holiday. I don't care that it didn't last, if it made my pooch happy then it was worth it. I was surprised though to find these two in blue and green as the last one was pink and it was fun to be 'controversial.'

Have purchased toys in the past for my Staffordshire and within a few throws, he has destroyed the toy. He will not chase balls regularly and when he does, one throw and it's ripped apart. The only thing he will get excited about are branches, which is fine in Autumn, Winter, but Spring and Summer there are none about in the parks. This toy gives him a lot of pleasure. It is the shape he likes and durable. I purchased a large stix, but on arrival, "it is very large", so should have really purchased a medium, as it is hard to keep the large ones concealed from the dog until you get to the park. Ideal for strong jawed dogs.

Family dogs are GSP, Border/Lakeland Terrier and Springer - not much lasts long with these three....until now. Fantastic product. Where other toys are played with beyond repair in no time, these 'sticks' keep on going.I have bought a few more for ours and for friend's woofs as concerned that as they are so good the manufacturers may stop making them as we don't keep going back to replace them, they may think they are not popular!Lost one in the water in the bad weather, GSP tried her best to find but couldn't. Not due to the product not floating, just went underneath a bank. Have replaced it and new one just as good.

29.3.2013

We bought this toy for our Jack Russell, as we're trying to get him to learn how to swim/not be scared of water and the fact it floats is a bonus. Dog instantly took a liking to the toy, and as it has no chance of splintering like a stick then he'll not be injured when fetching it.The only problem is that in blue (and I would imagine pink) it looks a lot like a double-ended adult toy, especially the way it's slightly flexible and wobbles around when held in the hand. My girlfriend got far too many dodgy looks from old ladies walking by. I don't know if that says more about the old ladies than this toy, though :)

After taking on a rescue dog that has never played with any toys, she will play with my other dog with the safestix and play tug of war with it. We have not test driven the floatability of it yet due to the weather. But in all we have fun making them chase the safestix down the hill and they bring it back. I find all kong toys are well made and durable for 2 larger dogs to play with. My dogs have be tugging and pulling this all over the place for over a week with no signs of any wear at all. One of my better buys for a dog thats never played with any other toy we have bought.
