Many years ago I was given a pair of wire strippers by a friend who worked at the GPO. They worked really well - but somewhere along the line I managed to lose them. Since than, I've tried a few of the well known brands - but none came close in terms of function and quality. Handles too bulky, cutters not well enough aligned, a stop mechanism that 'wandered'. Last straw was a recent job cutting network cables where a pair of 'Stanleys' butchered the cable. Knipex tools are usually better quality - so thought I'd treat myself to these.The good news are that they are a perfect match for those GPO ones I lost years ago. A very simple, straightforward design - but beautifully made. Precision cutters,

I have a few Knipex tools and I like them all, they are nice to use and very good quality. Not the cheapest but well worth the bit extra they cost because you can always rely on them to do what they are supposed to without fuss. I bought these specifically to strip fine wire (0.8 mm diameter and smaller) in a confined space. They do it well but there is a knack to stripping the wire without nicking the copper strands underneath. Its takes a bit of practice so set the wire size stop, cut through the insulation without damaging the copper strands, fractionally reduce the pressure and gently strip the wire. Once you've got the hang of it they are brilliant. I've given them four stars only because of this need for a knack.

I love a well made tool! And Knipex really deliver with outstanding quality and precision, yes this is substantially more expensive than a no name brand that will function 90% as well, but I’m sure it will last longer and certainly is a real pleasure to use.
