For the money this seems like a good value crimping tool ideal for the home/occasional user and is pretty solidly built, certainly better quality than I was expecting for the relatively cheap price and it has produced good, well crimped, connections for me.The main problem, and probably the cause of many of the critical reviews, is that there are no instructions on how to use it included with the tool which given the likely typical purchaser/user of a tool at this price (i.e. NOT an experienced professional expert crimper) seems like a shortcoming that could be easily and cheaply rectified by the manufacturer and result in greater purchaser satisfaction and fewer critical reviews.Check foryourself as I do not claim to be an expert user but from my use of the tool and what I have gathered after much searching on the internet is:1. This tool is for crimping Red, Blue and Yellow insulated connectors ONLY. If you want to crimp other connectors, shoe laces, fishing lines, etc this is probably not the right crimping tool for you. You need to ensure you use the correct colour connector specified to match the diameter of wire you are using so check the connector/wire specifications. Each colour of connector is matched to the corresponding coloured die size in the tool. Use a good quality connector.2. You have to insert the connectors into the tool the right way round for it to work correctly as one side of the die is narrower for the conductor crimp and the other side is slightly wider for the insulated wire sheath/cover crimp. The wire NEEDS to enter the connector from the side of the tool which has the coloured dots on it.3. If the crimping tool is not squeezing the wire tightly enough (Assuming you have matched wire size, connector colour, and die colour correctly and you are using good quality connectors) then you can adjust the tool to apply more or less pressure. This is more likely to be necessary if you are using wire at the thinnest end of the range specified for a particular connector colour so need to crimp it more tightly. If you look closely there is a small, sort of star shaped, wheel near the handle with a small screw holding it in place. On this wheel you will see an arrow with a + sign at one end and a -minus sign at the other. Remove the screw and move the wheel one notch in the direction indicated by the + plus sign to make it crimp more tightly (and the other way to reduce crimp pressure). Only move the wheel one notch at a time, replace the screw and test before adjusting further if necessary.4. From what I have gleaned from various other research/ tutorials it is recommended NOT to solder the wire before crimping as this can lead to stress cracking of the wire. I have also read that you should NOT twist the wire together before inserting into the connector as this can prevent proper deformation of the strands (and the form of a "Cold weld") which reduces the strength /effectiveness of the crimp.Hope this is of some help to other inexperienced crimpers. Silverline please add some simple instructions to the packaging, it would help novice users enormously.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Have used a lot in the month or so since I got it, good heavy feel and has no problem whatsoever in crimping.Few things to note... due to the way it levers, one of the blue handles opens up at a 90 degree angle to the other. Could see it being hard to use if you have small hands as reaching from one handle to the other is a stretch therefore. The tool ratchets down onto whatever you're crimping which releases once the tool hits the bottom of the crimping action. There's a release latch inbetween the two handles so if you crimp something that turns out to be too large you can push that to have the ratchet release. That release is in an awkward position inbetween the two handles however, the more you've crimped the less likely you are to be able to push on it. The knack is to press on it with the one finger you can get to it and squeeze the handles a bit (as if you were trying to crimp a bit more) which helps release the tension on the release latch. Really easy once you know!

It feels sturdy in the hand and seems better quality than you would expect for a tenner - time will tell!. I know others here have said it did not crimp enough however the one I received crimps perfectly without any adjustment. I am using quality plastic coated terminals and they will not pull off the wire when crimped. I tend to tin the wires prior to crimping for a better electrical connection. The instructions are non existent so if you are not familiar with this style of crimper you could be forgiven for putting the crimp in the crimper jaws the wrong way round and it will not crimp properly (should be crimping tool in right hand with the coloured dots on the die facing left, insert crimp so the end the wire goes in is facing the left and the wire in the the left hand making sure it stays in whilst squeezing the handles). It even comes with a lifetime guarantee once you register it.

Ok, so it’s not perfect, but at this price I can’t complain. The ratchet sometimes slightly slips a bit (maybe once in every 20 or so uses), but will catch again on the next attempt, so that’s fine.Of more concern is that as supplied it doesn’t crimp especially tightly and does need some adjustment to get a tighter crimp. This is not indicated or documented in any way, so many users may be unaware that this can and should be changed. After adjustment though, it does a good job.At this price point it’s hard to mark it down for the minor little issues it has. If you’re an electrician who’s crimping all day long, maybe buy something a bit more expensive with a better calibre, but if you’re an amateur or hobbyist or even a professional who just occasionally needs to do a bit of crimping, you could do a lot worse than this!

Maybe I'm a bit sad but I get turned on by neat little electronics tools like this, especially when they save me a lot of time and effort, which this does. If used properly, you'll get a solid connection that will last forever. I have seen a video (on a platform that shall remain nameless) which said that sometimes you don't get a good connection and so to use solder to make it secure - DON'T - that's a stupid idea and defeats the whole point of this type of connection. If you think that the connection will be too loose because the wire is thin, double the wire back on itself to double up it's size, twist it to secure it first, bend it back and crimp over the bend.Always check your connection with a multimeter afterwards but if you follow that tip, you can't go wrong.

This is a well made, sturdy, almost chunky piece of kit. It works well, but does require quite a bit of an effort to complete the crimping procedure. The ratchet action works well once the crimp is completed, the last part of which is the bit that requires the effort. It works okay with the correct size connectors (in my case blue and red), but I used it for a job on the car, where some of the connections involved thinner wires and smaller connectors. For these I had to use my existing crimping pliers. I'm not sure if different sized crimping dies are available for this, but if they are it would help. Well worth the money.

Neatly made including heavy gauge metal handles.[So heavily built that the first item was damaged in transit with evidence of being dropped on one end such that the heavy metal had broken through the substantial plastic sleeving on the handles - item replaced very promptly!]Pleasing progressive click action to close the jaws on the connector. Keep squeezing to release (or tickle the lever visible between the handles). I'll reserve judgement on efficiency 'cos the cable pulled free on my first attempt using a very small (red) connector - I felt I needed to just finish it off with a squeeze with pliers.

Excellent value for money and much better than the cheap style single crimps that you see, these will crimp the front and back of the termination at the same time. Just insert the termination from the coloured dot end, make sure it is placed in the centre of the jaws and crimp away.Even indents dots on the insulation so you can tell which die was used. Single dot for red, two dots for blue and a line shape for yellow.I can see them lasting a long time and for the price they probably cant be beat.

Having used "professional" crimpers in the past, I was pleased with the quality of this product. The jaws align correctly and there is no side play. The tension is adjustable but I have found that the pre-set level is just right to produce a nicely shaped connection without damaging the insulation. For little more than the cost of a "scissors" type crimp tool, this will give you professional quality joints which will not pull out (assuming that you use the correct sized crimp for the wire).

13.2.2021

The wire end needs to be tinned even if solid so as not to pull out. Only one side of the crimp jaws produce a correct crimp and leaves an emboss mark. It is best to emboss as close to the wire sleeve as possible and if you prefer align the tool so as to partially crimp the wire sleeve as well. Either method requires only one operation. Choose the smallest crimp sleeve for your wire to assure a good connection.

Having recently thrown out a tired & dirty pair of crimp tools which cost 3x more, I thought I'd take a punt on these "cheap" ones.I honestly can't see/feel any difference. The ratchet is solid & crisp (7 clicks to close, 8 clicks to open) and the die pieces seem durable & good quality. In the unlikely event they fall apart next week, I'll obviously update the review... but thus far, the punt paid off.

Took a chance with these as the more expensive Draper ones I bought were rubbish and had to be returned. As it was, these are much better but that seems to be the nature of this design. They all seem to be made using the same design and probably in the same factory, so it’s just a QC issue in the end.I think if I got another one, then it would be the Sealey angled-head version for about £35.

Really good for the money, perfect for occasional use. They seem well made and are pretty heavy. I wouldn't pay more, the more expensive ones are probably the same with a different name stamped on them. Maybe not for professional use but will last a lifetime for most people. I used them for putting lugs on 10mm bonding and they are impossible to remove without cutting the cable

I have always managed with a pair of cheap pressed steel Crimping Pliers that come with the crimps but having lent them out and not been returned I borrowed a pair of Ratchet Crimping Pliers and they made the job so easy.I came home and immediatly ordered a pair, which arrived next day. Once you have used them you wonder why you put up for so long with inadequate ones.

Very good tool, I hunted for the best price because I don't do this type of job any more (odd one off DIY's) I expected these to be noticeably lower quality than the better known makes to my surprise this dose not seem to be the case, a good well made tool! For crimping terminals this type of tool is the best for the job you get a good professional finished crimp.
