"Darling," she purred, "I've ordered you a stripper for your birthday.""But dearest!" I cried in delighted surprise. "It's not by birthday.""I know," she smirked. "It's not that kind of stripper."And so I became the proud owner of a pair of these things. I was not at all disappointed. The outer covering slid off smoothly every time. No more tugging and teeth clenching muttering. The delicate copper-toned underneath came into view unmarked and blemish-free.I've bought many pairs of wire strippers over the years and apart from one pair of really cheap coloured plastic "parrot-jaw" efforts, they've all been completely rubbish. The good ones were bought from that well-known holiday camp electronics store which over many years, became a toy shop. The strippers never failed me but finally disappeared and were replaced with a pair of similar looking things which were useless from the word go, and again replaced with almost identical ones which worked okay for a day or two and then somehow broke into limp, dangly ornaments. The fancy-looking enamelled Silverline efforts with a mechanism looking a bit like the CKs never worked once, ever and I tried and tried.... The sheath grip simply slid along the cable no matter how I adjusted them. They're supposed to be lifetime guaranteed, but apparently I need the original packaging, proof of purchase, a signed quart of blood and to pay shipping to Hong Kong or something so they're now in the bin. I suspect they were faulty, but had no instructions or assembly diagram so short of buying another pair, I wouldn't know how to tell. Jaded, me.I tried the v-notched screw-adjusting end-cutter design too. Absolute rubbish - always kinked the wire and then broke it.Most reliable wire stripping has been done with a Stanley knife and an old pair of scissors and this generally works fine but I was recently cutting back some T&E, thinking "If this goes wrong, I've nothing left to work with." and so when it did go wrong... bah.Since my C.Ks arrived, I'm confident of stripping in front of total strangers without embarrassing myself. They're happiest with twin and earth but seem perfectly at ease with most kinds of flex, hook-up wire multicore, cat-5 and everything else I've tried. Silicon-shrouded immersion-heater cable proved too much for them, purely because it's physically too wide to fit in the jaws , but they were dispatched with the scissors and Stanley knife as expected. Everything else has been a joyous doddle and I should have obtained a pair of these years ago. Of course I was put off by the price, stupidly. Buying these 30 years ago would probably have saved me money, in the long run - iF they hadn't disappeared like the cheapish Ma**** pair. What the heck - five stars. If you're hesitating like I did, bite the damn bullet and go for it. You'll not regret it unless it was your last twenty quid and you get stranded in hostile territory after a party with no taxi fare or raincoat in a monsoon being chased by robotic gibbons who want your umbrella. Unlikely I know, but life can throw up odd little surprises.

Purchased these a few months ago.I have used these to successfully strip many different types of wire ranging from 32 gauge Kynar up to 4mm twin and earth.for fine wires take care to set the adjusting screw; too tight and it will damage the cable, too loose and it will just scratch the sheath. Can easily strip the outer sheath from mains cable in section about 5-6cm long so if you need to remove long lengths (ie for consumer units) just 2-3 quick clicks of this tool and the sheathing will pull right of with no risk of damaging the wires. I have found this much faster and certainly safer than stripping leads the traditional way with a sharp knife.Handles are red plastic, feel solid and are well secured to the metal. They are also chunky enough to prevent easily catching fingers or any part of your hand when the tool closes.Overall construction feels solid enough, there is some play in the jaws so the back edge closes tighter than the outer edge (this makes the tool rather poor at stripping wide ribbon cables, but still possible if you hold the jaws in one hand to even it out). The additional features are also nice:The depth stop can be flipped back for when it isn't needed and can set depths of about 10-25mmCrimping jaws along the handle can crimp 3 sizes of fold in type crimps and 3 sizes of standard crimp terminals.Anvil type wire cutters also along the handle are very useful and actually make clean cuts due to the spring loaded design of the pivot guaranteeing a flat close each time.I will certainly buy another pair if i ever lose these, they are far superior and more versatile than cheaper "automatic wire strippers"Update: 3 years on and these are still in regular use. As of yet no sign of wear and no drop in performance. I really can't fault them; especially as I've still not pinched my fingers in them despite use in some rather awkward places such as under floorboards.

I have always normally used my fine mini snips as I don't have that much cable to strip any more, but as my hands age and get weaker through arthritis I find it more and more difficult to judge just the right amount of pressure required to cut through just enough of the insulation to easily pull it off the end of the wire without damaging or cutting through any of the wire strands. I do have the type where you can adjust the cutting gap with a screw adjuster but being a cheap one the edges have long gone on it so it tends to strip the cable as much as the insulation and thus it has been languishing at the bottom of my ex-tools that I haven't binned yet box.So needing a new one as I was doinga lot of wire stripping recently thanks to messing about with power LEDs and the like and struggling using my mini snips I looked around and noticed this piece in a friend's toolbox and he was more than happy with his. After playing around with it for a while I thought it pretty much perfect for my needs, especially as on bad hands day I can always use both hands as the device itself actually holds the wire in place while it strips off the required amount of insulation. Should have bought one a lot sooner, especially as it also contains a number of crimping slots which is a lot easier to use than a pair of pliers to close the crimps. Can't really find fault with it apart from maybe the price. But considering its versatility and ease of use even that feels like nit picking to find fault so all in all I can happily recommend this tool even if you're only an occasional and/or burst stripper and crimper like myself.

I have had these for about 18 months now and they have worked well on all of the wiring jobs I have had to do around the house. They have worked well on stripping the cores on thin lighting power leads and cores up to mains twin core and earth. I even managed to squeeze in a thick extension cable to strip off the outer sheath. They strip cleanly and accurately and remove the need for messing around with Stanley knives and the like. they have a built in adjustable stop so you can gauge lengths if necessary. The wire cutters work OK on most domestic cabling, but I have not tried the crimping tool set up as I have not had the need to. There are a number of variants of these tools on the market, which all look fairly similar and have seen other reviewers mention the Stanley FatMax version as a good one to buy also. I don't know how the trade view these wire strippers, but they are a godsend for small domestic jobs.

I've got two pairs of these and keep one in my everyday belt pouch. It's just so much quicker and neater than using side cutters and "cheesewiring" the sheathing with the earth wire. Takes literally 3 seconds to prepare a cable end with this.I also use it on flex cable but I score the sheathing slightly first with a knife then split it with this and then strip the cores with it.The little red plastic length strip is handy for consistent lengths when prepping for Wagos and despite thinking it would last less than a day before I broke it its still there and working.I've seen people have a few problems with these but it's always down to either the tension needing a 2- second adjustment,or that there's a bit of cable insulation trapped in the mechanism, which I had an initial problem with when I started using this and held it horizontally but not really an issue.

Works right out of the box, perfectly trimming the outer sheathing off Twin and Earth type cable of any size in the home leaving a very neat finish.First operation removes the outer sheath, second removes the insulation off however many cores the cable has. One minor complaint is the the stop markings are in inches not mm.These strippers seem to be made just that bit better than others I have tried and have a good positive action. Hopefully will last longer too.I was disappointed with the wire cutting, which is just the same as any other strippers ~ useless. Ah well, can't have everything. Can't get rid of the separate cutters yet!If you have never tried this type of stripper before then buy one immediately. They save a lot of time and avoid potential damage of the cores. They make their cost back in a matter of days.

Why didn't I get one of these twenty years ago? These really do the job. They come without instructions, but are pretty intuitive to use: The jaws accept the cable including the outer insulation; squeeze the handles and the jaws grip the outer, automatically adjusting to the cable thickness, and clamp it then pull apart, which parts the outer insulation and slides it partly off. You tug it off by hand then put the inner cables back in the jaws - there is an adjustable stop so you can bare them all the same length - then squeeze again and the jaws automatically adjust, grip, bite and pull off the required length of inner insulation. Magic and a joy to use.I wired ten sockets and several lamps in a tiny fraction of the time it would have taken, and no need to invent new curses!!

These are an excellent buy, I got them to make life a little easier at work but they've proven useful beyond my expectations.Cutting half the work out of plug and other mains wiring makes them a good buy as well but finding that they're versatile enough to remove the outer sheath from cat 5e cables, even the ones with that rubbishy flex casing and on fine electronics cables they're a god send since you don't get driven mad trying to carefully strip easily damaged wires while you're trying to work quickly.Even if it's not daily use I'd say these will pay for themselves, just by eliminating looking for the right cutters, fiddling with stripping the wires correctly etc. Also they'll do the job for crimping lugs on to wires, which is handy.

Strips a wide range of wires without fuss or fiddling. If I was being petty I'd take off 1/2 a star for the lack of instructions but then again it doesn't need many. It's worth noting that the brass adjustment knob allows you to adjust how much the insulation is pinched/cut into before it is pulled off. However, even that is pretty much 'one size fits all' unless you are dealing with some unusual stuff (e.g. it didn't like some exterior-grade cat6 cable as it has loose polythene outer insulation that just stretches). It's also quite bulky - fine if you're stripping before installation, but a little awkward if you are in a tight corner - but then nothing is perfect - although this is prettyclose!

This is a lifesaver when stripping twin and earth, flex, coax, or any other cables. It always strips perfectly and does anything from tiny equipment wire up to 2.5mm T&E.I've only had trouble with a couple of cables that had a very stretchy sheath, so had to go back to a knife for them, but I'd never use anything else now, especially for twin and earth which was always a pain before. Now it takes no time at all to wire in a socket. Just strip the sheath, strip the inner cores, stick some sleeving on, and it's ready. I only need this and a screwdriver now, rather than cutters, a knife, pliers to pull the earth, and a screwdriver. Massive timesaver!

Yes I looked on YouTube and some other sits giving a demo on how good they are, but I was still was not 100% convinced they was that good. How wrong I was, they are a must have in every tool box. So easy to use. If you had to find a fault they are a bit on the big size, so if you are having to stipe wire in a confined space like a wall might be a bit difficult. I have cut twin and earth and that small multi cable, like what's used for telephone & networking and it cut the outer sleeving perfectly without damaging the small wire inside, I was also impress that I was then able to strip 2mm cable that's inside too. Great tool definitely recommend.

Looking at these and the other brands you will soon discover that they are virtually identical in design and operating principle, the only difference seems to be the colour and markings. There are cheaper and more expensive brands but this isn't reflected in the actual build quality,C.K. seem to have struck a balance between cost and reliability as this company seems to have cornered the market as I see them in virtually everyone's toolbox. Only tip I can give is to keep the serrated cable clamps clear of debris and give them a squirt of WD 40 occasionally to keep them running smoothly, apart from that I just use/abuse them on a daily basis.

I was not convinced that this stripper would remove the outer, and then the inner insulation from 1.5mm T&E. I am now.On the first pass it will remove the grey outer insulation, and then re-apply to the inner cores without adjustment and these are perfectly stripped too. Turned several hours job installing ceiling lights into a one hour job.I did not adjust out of the packet, and the outer insulation strip did not cut the inner insulation, and then the inner insulation strip did not nick the conductors.Great for tight spaces.I have not tried other wire sizes yet.I would be interested to know how they perform long-term.

A solid pair of wire strippers that will last decades. Not much to say as they just do what they say with great accuracy and speed. Wire cutters are surprisingly sharp but not quite to the point where they would be ideal for cutting larger cables ( I have found they work well up to 3 core 0.75mm flex mains cable but 1mm and upwards is asking a little too much for a clean cut). and I cannot comment on the crimpers as I have not tested them yet.Great tools and yes, you can get wire strippers for cheaper but cheap tools will last a few months before they will be rubbish. Spend the extra money and you won't be sorry!!

I've used these for a few months now and have used them on:- grey house hold lighting cable- grey house hold socket cable- cat7a S/FTP shielded network cable- WF100 Satellite cableand more.I've found them to be a really versatile pair of wire strippers and in general work first time every time. Sometimes I've had it slide on the first try with the Cat7a, but this cable is really thick and the outer jacket is quite waxy so I feel that is a minor issue.I would recommend them and say if you are re-wiring a house they're a no brainer as they work very well on the household cabling.
