When I picked these up on 7th Aug, 2019 I had no idea how to open them? Then I remembered someone having the same problem when I was reading the reviews. I finally found this strange little piece that is at the side of the top of the tool and lo and behold they flew open very wide. I just tried them on a piece of 3mm jewellery chain and they was absolutely brilliant! I couldn't have chosen a better pair! Very pleased! Just what I need for cutting my jewellery chain up. Def a 5 star rating from me! For price, for quickness of delivery and for their style! Rosina xTHE SECOND REVIEW: I SPENT THE WEEKEND 24TH TO 26TH AUGUST AND CUT UP OVER 500 CHAINS IN DIFFERENT SIZES BECAUSE I KNEW MY TINY CUTTER THAT ALSO CAME FROM AMAZON,WOULD NOT CUT ALL THESE CHAINS AS SOME WAS VERY THICK. THE DRAPERS EXPERT 57768 WIRE ROPE CUTTERS WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! IT CUT THE LOT AND IS STILL SHARP! WHAT A BRILLIANT LITTLE TOOL! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND 5 STARS AGAIN! Rosina Lock

Bought it for cutting bike cables and outer cables, it is up to the job. I still find it is instresting that for the same design and style, bike cable cutters can charge normally between 2 to 3 times higher pirce compare to the general purpose ones. I have owned a IceToolz bike cable cutter for few years which worked great. This Draper one works no difference when cutting inner cables, but slightly mis-cut the outer cables a bit, especially for brake cable. I need to do extra filing down the sharpe edges when compared with the cut made by IceToolz. So there are some difference between those two. But I cannot justify paying twice the price. I possibly keep my bike ones for bike, and use the Draper one to cut everything else. At least the Draper is cheaper to replace.

...for steel wire cable, only.Perfect for all small flexible multi-strand steel cables and most piano wire. Although for larger sizes and solid wire you will need to use bolt cutters or a grinder/cutter.Will cut the smaller wire for theatrical 'flying' of light scenery and the odd genie...These will not cut winch cables but will suit smaller catenary wires between buildings. When cutting multi-strand cables wrap a layer of tape around the measured cutting point so it overlaps the cut, this will help keep the strands from spreading out until you can crimp a thimble over the cut strands which are sharp once sliced through. As with all tools the right one makes any job easier, just be certain you understand what the tool is for and how to use it correctly.

I bought these for an craft project where I was having to cut coils of 2.4mm mild galvinised steel into jump rings. (perhaps not exactly what everyone looking at this product will be wanting to do)Anyway, I got these as I was finding that normal plier-type wire cutters were a bit of a strain on my hands and now I just wish I'd got these earlier. They easily cut through two strands of this wire at once (ie: 4.8 mm of mild steel) with very little effort and give a pretty clean edge to the cut too.I only got them last week but I've already used them to cut through several hundred lengths of wire and the blades still look like new; looks like they'll last well. I'm really impressed.

Bought these from Bamford Trading and they were delivered very promptly. They were very competitively priced, when compared wth similar and highly effective. I had tried cutting armoured bike brake / gear cable outer with ordinary wire cutters (for electrical wires) and made a right mess; also tried hack saw and that was no better - so delighted with these - what a great investment - easily big enough for the cables I want to cut (up to 5mm) and cope easily and cleanly with them. Very sharp and do not need much pressure. I am sure will easily cut other cables up to 5mm without difficulty. Great investment, make life easier, recommended.

I was using 4mm wire rope as part of pergola design and had no idea wire rope would be so hard to cut. None of my tools were up to the job and I could not use a hammer and chisel as I had to cut the wire in situ. All the other wire rope cutters were at least £10 more than this one which is crazy if you're not likely to use the tool often. I trust Draper as I have some other tools made by them and this had good reviews. It's a great tool. Cuts very cleanly and quite easily. I'm a woman with small hands and I do need to use both hands to make the cut but it's not an effort. This tool saved me a lot of trouble and money. Highly recommend.

Bought this at same time as a different and larger pair of cutters from a shop and these cut much better and I have already stopped using the larger other brand ones as they started fraying cables when trying to cut gear and brake cables but these do it clean and quick.Definitely worth buying, there is a very small latch on one side of the cutters you need to unlatch to use them.....took me a while before I realised as its hard to notice if you don't know theres one there. Once I realised it was there I was surprised I didn't see it sooner.Feels well made and does its job very well, cuts bicycle brake and gear cables very well.

I bought these so I could trim some new bicycle brake cables to length. I'm glad I did because these cut through both the cable and the outer really easily and, more importantly, really cleanly. I suspect the other tools I had to hand would have done the job but would have made a proper mess of the ends.I was really impressed with how cleanly they cut but I'd add they're a little scary too. Hidden well away from my children. These things are like scissors on steroids.A useful addition to my toolbox and at a reasonable price too.

I bought it to cut a 4mm Wire Rope (1/19). It does the job, but you need to press it really hard to cut this kind of thickness. When I got it I just bought it quickly and I didn't read that there was a safety lock on it. It may sound stupid but it took me 5 to 10 minutes to figure out how to open the cutters. The lock mechanism looked like it was part of the cutter and I couldn't move it, but actually it is very easy... I almost tried to remove the black plastic thing, which is actually a vinyl spring...luckily I didn't!

These are the business; I needed to cut through brake and gear wire on my push bike - it's a high-end road bike so the wires are very high quality and extremely tough. I used a pair of small pliers and they would hardly make an impression, let alone cut anything. These things however are brutal - with minimal pressure they cut clean through and left an impeccably clean end with no fraying. Highly recommend; but obviously they are limited to small diameters as the jaws don't open very wide, but plenty wide enough for me.

When doing bike maintenance I've often thought I should get a proper pair of cutters for brake and gear cables, as side-cutters and pliers squash the cables when cutting and leave a ragged end. I've been put off by the price of dedicated bicycle cable cutters. However these cutters are great value so I bought them, and having done a few successful test cuts I re-cabled a bicycle. They worked perfectly giving a clean cut on brake and gear levers and a clean end to the cables.I recommend these cutters highly.

Roughly 1/3 cheaper than in a local branch of a well-known tool supplier. Arrived next day, safely but simply wrapped. My main purpose for these will be cutting bicycle brake and gear cable inners, which can squash and fray if you use pliers or cheaper wire cutters. A few test cuts showed that these do this job very easily. They give plenty of leverage, and the hooked shape of the blades holds the cable still. They snipped through the metal cable like it was a liquorice bootlace. Very pleased.

I bought these Draper wire rope cutters for use in picture hanging. This is to be used with 1.5 mm nylon coated stainles steele stranded rope wire fastened with crimps. So all wire hanging items must be cut cleanly. I am really pleased with these Draper wire rope cutters. For a trial I cut a few lengths of my usual 1.5mm wire with these Drapers. The resuls were excellent, with the cuts made completely cleanly, like a hot knife through...... Not a heavy wire, but it works well for me.

Like another reviewer, I am putting up catenary wire to run CCTV cable between two blocks of flats and cover our garage block. Trying to cut the 4mm wire rope with a 'snips' and a 'wire cutter' proved useless. This Draper tool did it in 3 seconds flat, hardly any effort and a nice clean cut as well. The label says up to 5mm wire rope and I have no doubt it would do it as well. For the price I don't think you can go wrong. I'm very pleased with it, made my job a lot easier.
