When rubbing butter and flour together I find that my hands cramp before the whole batch is evenly mixed and I hate getting the mixture under my nails - at best it's annoying and at worst, unhygenic. I have recently made pastry for the first time and used my food processor to mix it together. When I added the water my poor little processor really sounded like it was struggling. I was thinking I would have to do my pastry in two batches each time (or risk killing my machine) when along came the idea of the pastry blender. As the title says, it's so easy it feels like cheating! Yes, my arm was a little achey by the end of the mixing, but it took less time than hand-rubbing would and with considerably less cramp - although a bit of hard work is worth it,this item certainly made things a lot easier! The result was a much more even mix in less time than it would take by hand. I imagine you can get fancy wooden or rubber-handled versions, but at the end of the day how much do you want to spend on an item you won't be using constantly? It was easy to clean, too.I would recommend this pastry blender, it's fab. I bought one for my sister just before I was given mine and can't wait to give it to her now as I know it's a quality item. I even had to resist the urge to make several batches of pastry for freezing just because it was nice to use the pastry blender!

To be honest I only usually write a review when I purchase something that is no good and I feel I should warn others against wasting their money.BUT.........This is brilliant!! I was looking for a machine that could rub butter into flour as I hate having messy fingers when I do it by hand. Most articles said a food processor was the answer but one said that a food processor was good but, for a fraction of the cost, this gadget worked perfectly. I looked on Amazon and found it, delighted it was so cheap and decided it was worth the risk of spending £4.99 on something I thought might be totally useless. I was sceptical to say the least but gave it a go. I was thinking, this isn’t going to work when the butter seemed to be clogging the tool but I persisted and realised that the butter unclogged the more I used it. I ended up with perfect “breadcrumbs” and no sticky fingers. It takes about the same time as doing it by hand but you save a little by not having to wash the gunge off your hands afterwards. I washed it in the dishwasher afterwards. Like other reviewers I wish I had bought this years ago.

This is a pastry blender. It's meant to cut in cold butter into four for making flaky and fluffy pastry. Does it do the job? Yes, yes it does! My scones never had the amazing texture I can achieve with this (I have warm hands, so rubbing butter in by hand melts it - this does not). It's dishwasher-safe, so easy to clean, too. The only thing to watch out is that the blades occasionally bend sideways a little, and I've had to straighten them twice (not difficult), which makes me think that the steel it's made of isn't of a very good grade.I suspect there might be a better one somewhere out there, but since this one does the job, I'm not going to look for another unless it should break - which it hasn't,yet. On the other hand, I generally cut cold, refrigerated butter in, not frozen as is recommended for some fancier pastry recipes - being a bit soft, it might not be suitable for frozen butter.

I've made pastry for 40 years using the old fashioned rubbing in with fingertips. I've tried food processors & food mixers which have been returned as they haven't made the pastry as well as I can by hand. This little gadget is a fraction of the cost & I've got to say I was amazed at how quickly the flour & fat turned into breadcrumbs. Less than a minute compared to about 10 minutes rubbing in. No more sticky fingers and trying to keep hands cold. The only drawback (I think) is that you can't lift the mixture high enough to incorporate air. So I just shook it from one bowl to another a couple of times. I always thought & had been told my pastry was very good, but now it's even better.

I now make the best pastries and crumbles thanks to this very simple but extremely effective gadget. I bought one for my Dad who has arthritis in both wrists and he is enjoying being able to make his own crumbles and pastries again. The blades ARE a bit flimsy but to be honest it is only flour and butter it gets used on so I'm probably just being a bit too heavy handed. I would definitely recommend this product 1, for speed. 2, if you have dexterity issues and 3, if you can't stand the feeling of crumbs getting under you finger nails.

I never knew these things existed until I decided to do a Mary Berry and have a go at baking. I spotted it in a "other customers also viewed/bought" section and thought it sounded a great idea. I know it's a minor thing but I hate getting my hands full of butter and sticky flour (especially if the phone rings part way through) so I've found it a really useful gadget. When it arrived, I had a quick Google to see how you're supposed to use them and it's dead easy - even someone as useless in the kitchen as me can use it.

another nice gadget to use :-) During the week life seems to be at mach 1. Why not wind down at the weekend and dump the food processor, and connect with the ingredients. Although ...it could be argued why not just use your fingertips?? Good question...mmmmmm....well, too late , I bought this. Maybe I don't like being called Butterfingers. Who knows?A good video of its use , can be found on if you search " fine cooking rough puff pastry" I was amazed at how rough they meant.

I purchased this as a top-up gift for my mother who loves to bake. She had seen a similar one on TV and had said how handy it would be for pastry blending. She was thrilled when she opened the present and has used it loads of times since. She says it is really good at blending and means she doesn't have to get her fingers all messed up!! Really handy tool and doesn't take up loads of space in a drawer. Arrived quickly and well packaged.

I had one of these many years ago as my mother had always used one but I'd given mine away as I stopped having time to make pastry or do baking. I decided some time ago to try pastry again (fed up with the disappointing shop bought efforts) but wasn't too keen on food mix pastry so went back to trying this handy gadget out. Success! it's quick, simple and allows you to finish the pastry with the fingertips for extra lightness.

Haven't been able to make truly light pastry like my mum used to until I got this - you can cut the fat in before it gets warm and finish off with your fingertips to add in airiness. Before this my hand-made efforts were often a bit too flaky (going a bit rough puff) and while the Magimix and Nigella provided a good alternative, the result lacked exquisite lightness. Really pleased such a cheap item did the trick.

I live in Spain and many household items such as this are unavailable in my area - I had a friend bring this out with her from the UK as ready made pastry is also hard to find so I have started making my own. This makes the job quicker & easier and I find it far less messy than using my hand (It also has the advantage of keeping the ingredients cool - not always easy in the Spanish heat!)Recommended :)

Is fits purpose I was expecting it to be bigger which would have been easy to use and sturdier soI'm not sure how long it's going to last as I've only used it once. but it worked well and is definitely improved me making pastry. the price is reasonable for what it is .when car boot sales are on again I will be out looking for a a traditional old version that is more sturdy and designed to last..

I had seen to cooks/chefs use these pastry blenders and as I am having difficulty, due to weaker muscles, in making my own pastry or crumble mixes, I decided to buy one. It is excellent. You have to be careful until you get used to it as it is very easy for it to slip and you shoot pastry mix everywhere but it is only a question of getting used to using it. I can thoroughly recommend it.

This product is wonderful. I have been trying for years to make good scones with little or no success. I bought this product having seen the Pioneer Woman on TV use one to rub/cut in the fat into the flour to make scones and I figured it had to be worth a shot. I am now making the most delicious scones ever. 3 batches in two days and people are asking me to make more. A must buy item.

Arrived next day as promised. I'd inherited one of these from my Mum so it was probably about 80 years old and so needed an upgrade and this does the job perfectly. Much better than my old wire one -and you can put it in the dishwasher. The only thing I missed was that my previous one had a thumb grip on the top which made it a lot easier to hold
