I've not given it 5 stars yet, as it's one of those 'time will tell'products. It arrived on time, in good nick, and fairly reasonably priced considering it's rather more than just a brush. Instead of bristles it has thickish rods of rubbery silicone plastic and some perforated sheets of the same stuff buried in the 'bristles'( see other reviewers kindly provided pics). It'll pick up just the same amount of oil, milk, flour, or anything else your old brush did,and put it where you want it.It's supposed to cope with hot oil without damage.I havn't really tested this yet, but it's definately dishwasher safe, so as long as your oils not bubbling and smoking like it's ready to blow, you should be o.k.The angled shape does as advertised, keeping the contents of the bristles off your work surface unless the brush is really loaded. In short,it's just the tool for the job, making all the old wood, bristle, and nylon jobs look rubbish.Get one!Incidentally, just after the product arrived, one of our chairs needed some fixing, and the redundant wood and bristle brush which we'd only used once before it started to go deciduous, got used as a glue brush. It's now exiled to the shed where it belongs. Edit:- 5 months later, 2 of the inner yellow bristles (one each side)have fallen off, dunno why but they're easy to spot before they get in your cooking, and there's still plenty left. If it lasts the year I'll be quite happy. Seemingly simple, commonplace little gadgets like this add just as much to your cooking convenience and pleasure as a drawer full of fancy knives or a food processer so long as they're done right.

i've been using 'normal' bristle brushes for years now and have always had to replace them after a short period, mainly due to the fact that the bristles held onto the smells from the food stuff, especailly liking oils and liquids, which made the bristles go tacky and none usuable, even after soaking, washing, soaking again, everything but actually sandblasting the things.Anyway, i decided to buy this bristle free brush as it had some good reviews and i'm glad i did.i have been using it now for a bit and it has been dipped into alsorts of stuff, but unlike the bristle brushes the odour and smells, even the oils i use for covering pastries, just won't stick to these. The 'rubber'type bristles clean with ease and with them being rubber type the smells and oils just roll off them.I paid a couple of quid for this and from my experience with it so far it will out last the pricier 'normal' bristle ones that i have used in the passed.so if you do a lot of cake baking then get one of these, you won't be disappointed one bit

Pondered long and hard over whether to get this or the traditional model. There seem to be a lot of negative reviews of both types. The traditional bristle models always seem to wear out down to a rat's tail though how this happens just painting a bit of egg-wash on pastry beats me. They also leave bristles on the food that can be easily missed. This silicone brush is far superior. Not clear to see in the product photos are internal strips with holes punched through that act as reservoirs for the liquid. This was the main reason I was sceptical about buying this type of brush.Anyway, no need to have worried, it works perfectly.I don't thing the OXO Good Grips model was the cheapest but, for insurance, went for the brand name as we've had their products before. You shouldn't go wrong with this one.

I've had silicone pastry brushes before, but always found that they either don't hold on to enough liquid, or are just too stiff or flimsy to be any use. This one hits the balance just right, giving reliable brushing without the worry of a hair-bristled brush leaving you a little surprise.I've used it to put egg-washes on delicate breads, brush water to seal stuffed-crusts on pizza, and to baste slow-cooked brisket - it's always been up to the task. My only complaint is that, as found in the case of the brisket, it can cling on to larger bits of herbs or spice and can be a little difficult to clean. This would be the case with any brush, though, and the transparent bristles at least allow you to notice and deal with it before you end up with unexpected chilli-flakes on your brioche!

Was slightly worried when I received this item as the brush bristles are plastic and seemed too sparse but realised that it is purposefully designed like that because it allows it to air out properly instead of trapping organic matter in between so that it doesn't deteriorate or smell.I've only used it to marinate meat on BBQs so far which has done the job just fine and didn't stain the brush. Not too sure how it will fare when it comes to other cooking such as baking but its still worth having in your drawer for the fact that its so easy to clean and is very hygienic! The fact that the bristles are plastic also means no shedding too and the angled brush head is a nice touch to the design.

I use this for painting pastry (sausage rolls, pies, etc.) with milk or beaten egg to give a crispy/shiny finish. Although the silicone 'bristles' seem very odd when you're used to a traditional brush, it actually works well, picks up enough liquid, and paints without dribbling or blobbing. There's a handy hole in the end of the handle to hang it on a hook. Best of all, it goes in the dishwasher and comes out clean, undamaged and without smelling. I've been using this a while now and it is as good as new - much better value than a traditional wood and bristle brush which would be shedding and splitting by now and would have needed to be hand-washed.

This brush is really worth the money in my opinion. It holds oil or liquid well and is light enough not to damage delicate pastry but also will hold quite a lot of e.g. oil if you want to smother aubergines. The clincher for me is that it goes in the dishwasher and comes out perfectly clean, dry and unwarped - not my experience with cheaper plastic brushes. There is therefore no residue left to make the brush eventually stink - as can happen with wooden brushes. I expect to have this brush for years making the price very reasonable.EDIT - I've just had to replace this after 8 years so it's lasted pretty well.

I've had this brush 2 years now and it's still going strong. It is a bit of a pain to wash as we don't have a dishwasher, but compared to traditional brushes it's really no hassle at all and is much more hygienic. It also doesn't leave hairs in the food which is an added bonus and clearly it has lasted which seems to be a rare thing these days. It gives a good spread and is gentle on food. I wouldn't go back to the traditional pastry brushes after using this OXO silicone brush.

May seem a little expensive for a pastry brush but I'm fed up of the cheap type that shed their bristles when you wash them and then leave bristles on your pastry next time you use it. This brush seems more sturdy and has slim perforated strips of silicone encased in an outer layer of bristles, I used it today to put an apricot glaze on my christmas cakes before adding the marzipan and it worked perfectly and washed and dried quickly .

Good to hold use and clean. i bought this as I wanted a pastry brush that would withstand hot fat and go in the dish washer. Repeated use like this has had no deleterious effect on the brush. I also gained benefits I hadn't looked for as the design is first class. The way it picks up extra of whatever you want to brush and then spreads it thinly and evenly is very good. I am very pleased and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.

This brush is great!!! My silicone brush I had was a bit hard when it came to brush the top of my rolls and sometimes would rip them.... this one however did not and was gentle to brush my rolls without dragging the dough. Perfect worth the price and I have bought the OXO whisk last year and it’s the best whisk ever!! Will be buying more OXO products in the future. Also I saw Gordon Ramsay use this brand as well.

My previous wood and hair brush eventually lost most of its hair so I looked at many reviews on various pastry brushes. This does work brilliantly, probably owing to the little flexible 'paddle' bit set within the brushes which others had mentioned. This will last a long time and I'm pleased I don't have to flatten the pastry tops with too much pressure to brush egg/milk mixture on them. Brilliant.

I didn't know this when I ordered it, but between the bristles, there's a layer of silicone strips with sifter-like circular holes on them that catch the drops of liquid and hold them there as though they were bubbles, and release them when you brush them up against something. Such a simple solution to leaking...makes you wonder why you never thought of it yourself. Fabulous! Well worth the price.

Pastry brushes are one of those things that I buy on a fairly regular basis. Either the bristles tend to come out or the whole head becomes detached or they just aren't vry nice to use. I am quite pleased with this, though. It's a bit more substantial than others, and washes, egg or milk, go on well. I put it in the dishwasher, and so far nothing untoward has happened. Nice little item.

have been using this for a while, solid product and very handy when it comes to certain dishes and love using it especially for BBQ ribs to rub sauce on the ribs as it can withstand the heat. HOWEVER ! make sure to wash the BBQ sauce or other dark color sauce off of the brush quickly as leaving the sauce on the brush for long period of time can stain the brush permanently
