I purchased these beans so I can better blind bake my pastries. They’re more than enough to provide solid and thorough coverage of my 10inch (25cm) tart tin. They arrived swiftly, in good condition and packaged securely. The only thing preventing me awarding the full five stars is the somewhat flimsy and cheap nature (and it really looks it!) of the container they come in, and I’ll likely replace this in the future to something nicer and more secure. Also, make sure you don’t put them back in hot or you’ll likely melt the container. That said, these beans are great to use. They are easy to clean and obviously reusable. They distribute heat well and evenly (they are ceramic, after all),preventing the bottom of my pastry from bubbling and the sides/bottom from shrinking. You also get a good number of beans for what I feel is a reasonable price – for most kinds of baking you’ll be all good to go though if you want to do multiple dishes at once or a particularly large item you may need to purchase a second set. They also seem to be rather durable, and have certainly lasted a number of accidental droppings on the floor and they’re heavy enough to weigh down pastry nicely. All in all, these beans are excellent and have vastly improved my ability to cook pastry and blind bake. They distribute heat well and weigh down my pastry to prevent shrinkage and bubbling. The only issue I have with these isn’t the beans themselves but the packaging – it’s rather flimsy and definitely looks and feels cheap. For that reason I’m giving them four stars, but the beans alone would warrant five!If you have found this review helpful in any way, I’d be really grateful if you’d let me know by clicking the “helpful” button below :)

These baking "beans" have many advantages over the use of real beans or lentils for baking blind. Each one is spherical and about 1cm in diameter, which makes them easy to pour into and remove from your tart tin. Uses real pulses for baking blind, little bits can break off or they can dry out and crumble. No chance of that using these ceramic baking beans as they are very robust. There are enough of them to cover two decent sized tart tins or several smaller ones. One thing to keep in mind is that they do retain heat better than pulses, so a little care is needed to avoid burning yourself. All in all, these ceramic baking beans do everything you'd want them to do.

I'm very happy with these baking beans! They do the job great and are easy to clean, also this is a personal thing but as they're ceramic I find them very pleasant to the touch so they're nice to work with.My one issue - and that's not any fault with the product - was that the little box they come in had spilled inside the parcel box when they arrived! It's a right mess having to pick them all out individually (especially considering a good quarter of them immediately found themselves on the floor)! But again, that's not so much a product fault and now that I have gathered them all I'm very happily using them.

The wife says these things are brilliant, so in fear of my life, there will be no argument from me, as I dont even know what to do with these things, other than "accidentally" spill them in a shopping centre and film the chaos?Apparenty this is why I'm not allowed to use the oven too :-(Seems like she keeps cooking them over and over again, so I assume its some form of housewife baking practice thing, where she can cook stuff without hitting me with big shopping bills for repeatedly incinerating perfectly good food then claiming she likes things "crispy" haaaaaa

I bought these because my first attempt at "blind" baking was a semi disaster. I read that you could use rice but after baking for the recommended time I spent ages picking rice grains out of the pastry. I decided to buy the right thing for the job and these were the cheapest and had lots of stars which is OK by me. My second attempt at "blind" baking was a resounding success and I made a Quiche Lorraine (I am a real man by the way!).Health and Safety warning:-Do not confuse with baking beans with baked beans or you will break your teeth.

Bought these as a present to go in the baking gift basket. I have two tubs of these and they are a great asset when baking pastry, Just line your tin with the pastry, prick lightly with a fork to prevent it rising, insert some baking paper and the beans to ensure a flat, even base, then blind bake for 10 to 15 mins, remove baking beans and paper and bake for further 5 minutes to slightly set the base so your filling does'nt make it go soggy. fill with the ingredients of your choice and put back in the oven until it is baked. :)

As expected, I purchased these because I was looking to make some pastry based products - the only thing I would say is that if you have a large flan tin then you will probably need 2 packs of these baking beans. I have a 12" flan tin and one pack isn't quite enough to prevent the pastry 'bubbling'.The ceramic beans work really well as they heat up so they cook the pastry but help to keep it flat and prevent it 'inflating' as it cooks which then leads to cracks and lost filling!

Needed these for a while but always made do, so buying these I was not sure if it was worth it, I was so wrong the difference they have made by flattening my tarts to a perfect shape with no puff is worth every penny, which I giggle as I say as they really are such a bargain, they cover my 6 small tart tins at once, they arrived in perfect condition and bonus the tub is so thick it can be kept for there storage so no extra expense, highly recommend these and the company.

For many years I have used dried beans to do this job, which last for a few goes before they fall apart or, worse, start to smell if I store them incorrectly. Finally I splashed out on these. They really are much easier. Do line your flan with baking parchment first. This makes it easier to pour them back into the tub and ensures they don't embed themselves slightly in the pastry. There are enough here for at least two large flans or several smaller cases.

It's not their fault but I wish they explained better that 500g is not that much: I tried with a 25cm pie but I think it would not be enough with a 30cm one. I haven't tried it yet though. The box is already broken because I put the hot beans in it without having them cooling down. I know it's my fault but if they could make a heat resistant box that would make every baker's life easier, not having to place them somewhere to cool down and then in the box

My mum used to use old, dried butterbeans to bake 'blind' and I remember picking out pieces which had broken off. These ceramic beads are just so easy in comparison. Put a sheet of baking paper on the pastry, pour the beans on top, and bake. Just be a bit careful to make sure the beans have cooled before you put them back in their plastic pot - I usually just tip them into a dish to cool down.

I use these on my blind bakes as I decided to upgrade from rice - mainly as my husband was getting rather annoyed that I kept using up supplies haha! These are great. Have baked with them 20+ times now and they're still perfectly fine. Super easy to clean, dry quickly and cool, then store back in the tub they come in.Excellent quality and the perfect addition to my baking.

KitchenCraft is hands down my favorite brand for home cooking and baking tools. It's a great British company that sells innovative products of the highest quality at incredibly low prices and their customer service is second to none.Beans are heavy and weigh the dough down nicely. Are good conductors of heat yet cool down quickly. Good ceramic that doesn't chip.

For those that want a tub of Ceramic Baking Beans this is the ideal product. Well presented in a reusable tub and doing what it says on the package being baking beans ! This is not a product that any one will buy on spec, it is for those who want to do serious baking. The only minor draw back is that I have noticed a similar product in Sainsbury's cheeper!

Ah the joys of blind baking pastry- one tub was fine for my 12 small tartlets. Cover your pastry lined tins with tinfoil, pur them in, and prebake. At least with ceramic beans you don't have to chuck away any overbaked pulses. Just let them cool fully before you pour them back into the tin for storage (they do get pretty hot!). They last for years.
