A song of IceA pale amber colour in the glass. On the nose a subtle aroma of butterscotch caramel and no sharp discordant notes. As cool as the name would suggest. Here the wolf is wagging its tail, not growling. On the palate it begins to show it’s teeth since I’ve taken no water with this and the alcohol at 40.2% lifts a bit of vanilla and spice in amongst the butterscotch. There’s nothing here to cause offence though. Taken with a rock of ice obviously dulls down the alcohol through dilution but that allows the vanilla to come through above everything else. The finish was smooth and lingering sweet toffee and caramel.A very drinkable scotch but I did not detect any of the claimed grassiness although it was indeed a very crisp and smooth whisky suitable for all palettes. It would make a good gift for fans of the show who are not dyed in the wool Single Malt drinkers and none the worse for that.A song of FireA pale amber colour in the glass. On the nose this was very much to my taste with a distinct smokiness and sweet cinnamon and clove spice breathing fire into the glass. On the pallette there is an alluring smoky sweet astringency with an almost chewy caramel flavour that gives a lovely warming sensation as if the dragon is whispering to your taste buds. Despite the slightly higher alcohol than the Song of Ice blend there is no fire here, just a warmth that the wolf cannot give. Taken with a rock of ice obviously dulls down the alcohol at 40.8% through dilution but that allows the smokiness to come through like the dragon has not long set fire to the spice barn. The finish is smooth but in character a notch above the ordinary as the smoke lingered along with the sweet caramel and cinnamon. A very drinkable and characterful blend that would suit the casual drinker and the more committed single malt fan. The bottle itself would make a great gift for a fan of the show who wants to develop their taste for Scotch Whisky. A bit pricey but nice.

As many do with these 'gimmicky' kind of releases, I bought two. One to display/collect and one I popped into the freezer. The bottle's skin has a nice roughish feel to it and it helps prevent slipping when pouring. It only needs to be in the freezer for an hour or two to enjoy it. I had it over ice, which was nice. Good nose (sweet vanilla and raisins) and after letting it warm up a bit it became a bit oakier, but it lost most of its taste. So yes, bet drunk ice cold. What I did find is that when you leave it in the freezer any longer (+3hrs) it almost turns to treacle?! This is not too strange but I guess that the blend at 43% (86 Proof)is somehow not resistant enough to combat the freezer conditions. My recommended way of drinking is with a large chunk of ice and with your favourite mixer. There is plenty more Scotch single malts Game of Thrones in the pipeline and by the Seven, I'm gonna get them all. (I am geeky enough with a disposable income to go that route)(NOTE to Scotch distillers: no, please do not ever think of manufacturing/marketing a pokemon whisky)

Ok, yes it’s got no outer presentation style box and yes it’s a screw cap, but looking beyond those it’s a bit of fun. The bottle has a chill reactive wrapping around it, a bit like those that Cola did a few years back. This is also a reasonably priced bottle of whisky that isn’t an older product repackaged, so that’s a good thing. The tasting notes looked good, so I popped it in the freezer for an hour and tried a naked shot. It was pleasant and worked well chilled, i personally would use it for cocktails. The GOT connection is good, so I bought two bottles, one for drinking and experimenting with and one for collecting. I have tried to find exactly what the limited edition number is and failed.I imagine it is a limited run, but in high numbers, so don’t expect a collectors editor Balderunner bottle style investment. Saying that, you may like it in your drinks cabinet as a talking point, which is why I bought it. So, a good price, a good spirit and a bit of fun.

I enjoy whisky ranging from the Islay malts to the more floral Japanese distilleries. I was dubious about a whisky produced with a media name attached. No matter how much I enjoy either the alcoholic beverage or the TV show, I don't want to try one for the sake of another.Thankfully for Johnnie Walker, the finish to this whisky easily beats the finish to its eponymous series. Soft and easily quaffable over a square of ice, there's no need for a mixer and indeed it would spoil the overall tone of this beverage. It leaves a pleasantly warm aftertaste on the pallatte and sadly once opened the bottle didn't last long! While I wouldn't seek this out just based on the name, I'd recommend people do look past that.Beyond that, it's a great gift for people like me - fans of both!

Bought a couple of these a while ago (this GOT limited editions go on for years) and was not impressed. Following instructions, taking it straight from the freezer, I enjoyed the funky packaging but despised the bland, viscous, slightly astringent liquid. Yuck. Into the cupboard it went.Few months later cupboard cleaning time, I braved the bottle. At room temperature, incredibly, this is a sweet vanilla delicious whiskey, unlike any JW I’m used to this is (ironically) one the friendliest whiskies I’ve met, vanilla, honey, biscuit with a slight alcohol kick. Lovely. Great with ice (!), superb with a mixer. Great value for money. So my advice would be ignore the instructions and give it a whirl.Johnny Walker eventually pays his debts.

Bought this previously when first released and feel the same way as i did then it's definitely worth £25 but maybe not £30+.It's interesting that this is a new blend not just repackaged generic (i wouldn't have bought it if it was) and the flavour is good, not a high quality whisky but perfectly drinkable neat and definitely an interesting twist for cocktails. The packaging is nice but it is just plastic wrap not an engraved bottle or anything, the cold sensitivity is cool though, when stored in the freezer it has some cosmetic changes but overall it's not really a super collectable luxury bottle and clearly not a very limited run. I'd advise trying it on sale if you like blends.

This 'Song of Ice' version arrives with a nicely done illustrated plastic wrap (the bottle is not painted) around a regular Johnnie Walker bottle with a screw cap. To be honest I was expecting this whiskey to be a bit of a gimmick but I actually liked it a lot. It has a fresh aroma of green apples with a smooth fresh fruits taste and pleasingly lingering after taste – I've also tried the 'Song of Fire' version which is also very likeable but is noticeably sweeter and spicier.I'm not familiar enough with Johnnie Walker whiskeys to know how this compares with the wider range but for the money is decent whiskey with a fresh taste and a bit of novelty appeal.

Such a good blend of whisky, liked by all that have tried. Flavour is completely different depending on how you store/serve it. I have tried chilled from the fridge, chilled from the freezer and room temp. And can say that it accentuates different notes within the whisky depending on this. Really would recommend. Would be brilliant if it was boxed, but being honest I would have looked at a box, opened it and then got rid. So they save on the cardboard and just give the bottle. Not a terrible thing. Decorative bottle would look good on display anyway. Also the temperature changing design was pretty cool.

As the blurb explains, the Song of Fire whisky is designed for mixing rather than for sipping, and that's exactly right. To sip it's a bit harsh, but it makes a great scotch and ginger and works will in a Manhattan. The flavour is richer and somewhat smokey, not unlike Black Bottle (which is probably a better buy if you don't need the GoT theme given it's significantly cheaper). The bottle itself is pretty regulation Johnnie Walker glass but with a shrink-wrap GoT themed sleeve and a slightly sculpted screw cap.

As a whisky lover I have to be honest, this whisky surprised me.First of all, this isn't a black label with a GOT skin, it's a new blend. It's slightly over the usual 40% and is at home in the freezer, rather than the cupboard.Flavour wise, it's refreshing and actually very unique. As a drinker of the full range, this might actually be the nicest after Blue Label.Worth trying while it's available, I know I will be getting a second bottle to save for a later time. And now my watch has ended.......

I'll just make it known that the bottle itself has not got the fancy design engraved into it; it is, in fact, a fancy packaging cover. I would have scored it lower for this but the hidden message on the packaging brought the presentation score pack up for me. The taste when stored correctly before drinking is a berry taste which I would recommend. I feel like this is worth buying at the very least for collecting if you're a game of thrones fan.Arrived on time without prime

Fantastic bottle design makes this perfect for any GoT fan. The whiskey inside was pretty average to taste initially, but having read the reviews that it needs to be left in the freezer, that is where it now lives. The freezer appears to make it slightly thicker and very drinkable, which for someone who doesn't take their whiskey on the rocks, came as a pleasant surprise.Bought a second as a collector's item, however like many of the GoT characters, it may not last...

I bought this for my husband who has a Johnny Walker collection and who is also a fan of Game of Thrones. He is very happy with his gift - he rushed straight into the kitchen to put the bottle in the freezer! On a different note, I would recommend allowing the whisky to get to room temperature before drinking, as feedback from other people who also bought this is that it does not taste very good when it is fresh out of the freezer - it is a blended whisky after all.

I haven’t opened it as it’s a Christmas gift but, it’s great as a collectible. It doesn’t need a gift box because the bottles cover is the special feature - put it in the freezer and as it gets cold the blue veining and the “winter is here” text becomes visible (disappears when the bottle warms up. The eye looks like it glows blue like the white walkers, it’s really cool just to look at and I’ve heard good things about the insides as well!

So sad! This was meant as a Valentine’s Day gift for my husband BUT it just broke (13 Feb) as I was taking something out from the cupboard the bottle fell and shattered on the ground. Managed to only get ONE glass that didn’t have any glass pieces in it for him. He enjoyed it a lot but wish the bottle didn’t break and couldn’t afford to buy another! But highly recommended - my husband definitely enjoyed the one cup. :-(
