This appears to be a well made lens hood that does exactly what you would expect of something so simple. It has an Olympus bayonet fixing and clicks easily onto the front of my 60mm Zuiko macro lens. Once in place it can be slid back to cover the lens, or pulled forward to shade the lens' front element. It appears pretty much identical to the original Olympus lens hood. However, it is a *fraction* of the price! The Olympus price is absurd and they should be ashamed that they don't supply a lens hood with their lenses like other major manufacturers do. Before I purchased this item, I read the reviews saying that the lens hood was so stiff that one risked damaging the lens when fitting it. However, given the price I decided to buy it anyway and I can attest that the lens hood I received is a good fit where the bayonet is concerned and that the sliding mechanism, while it requires a bit of rocking back and forth, certainly runs well enough for this item, given the price, to deserve 5 stars. If you have a problem with the fit of any plastic item, it is worth bearing in mind that plastics have a high coefficient of expansion and, depending on shape, warming them up if for an outside fit, or cooling them down for an inside fit, can make all the difference as can some silicon oil applied carefully with a paintbrush. In short - buy it, it's good value and works well.

So you if you are looking at this Lens hood you must have come via the Olympus Official product? That item's price probally sent you to this page, the Olympus hood for what is, just a cone of plastic, must be the most over priced thing they produce! Don't get me wrong, I am a longtime fan and user of Olympus cameras, over 30 years experience! And I love them! The JJC is perfectly good enough for the price, mine is a little stiff and often refuses to move without an effort. Having said that it does the job, maybe the Olympus hood is better quality plastic? It should be at £60.00! But this piece of kit for me is just as good, it fits and shields the lens from flare,ok it can be a bit of a wrestle to slide it open but for the price its good enough for me! There is no justification to pay over the odds for a piece of plastic unless it looked as good as the hood on the Olympus 12mm!Bit of an update here! The hood is starting to drive me mad, it now sticks far to often and I sometimes pull it off the camera trying to slide it forward - so maybe there is some justification for paying the Olympus price?

This Lens hood has had mixed reviews and the main negative comment has always related to the stiffness of the hood as you slide it out for use or back over the lens for storage. My lens was similarly stiff as delivered but by carefully sliding it just with my fingers (not mounted on the lens) it quickly eased and, now with an application of WD40 PTFE spray it moves very easily indeed. Result, a lens hood that is probably just as good as the Olympus official hood. The design of the hood is such that the hood has a number of grooves along its length which engage in matching raised ridges on the outside of the bayonet ring. The critical thing is to ensure that the hood remains square to the bayonet ring which, because of the bayonet ring's shallow depth can be very difficult until the whole is "run in".4 stars for an excellent product but which in most cases seems to require initial preparation before it is really ready to use. It is a pity that the manufacturer does not carry out that final step - if they did they would have a 5 star product.

This JJC lens-hood is a budget-price replacement for the one that should have been included with the lens when purchased. The hood fits the bayonet mount and slides forward in use, It's not an aftermarket screw-in piece or make-do cheapo item, but works in exactly the same way as the Olympus hood,OK, Olympus misses out on dedicated after-sales, but it's a poor show after spending so much on the gear to be expected to pay out another 75% above what this comes at for a plastic tube with the brand ID. Your money - Your choice!

I think that this is a really excellent lens hood for the price. At £12 - £13 what do you expect? Yes, I do have to gently but firmly coax it up and down the lens barrel but, once in position, it does exactly the same as the £45 Olympus model. This isn't going to affect the quality of my photos, is it! I have to admit I haven't tried the Olympus hood so do not know how much easier/smoother that is to operate. I am very happy with my purchase. I would have awarded it 5 stars if it slid more smoothly into place.

Great value for money compared with the Olympus own branded one. Works well, looks good and does the job. Clips firmly onto the lens bayonet mount and you can still add a filter if you want. Only criticism is the sliding mechanism. It is quite sticky and hard to slide smoothly. I found a few tiny dabs of Vaseline helped a lot with this - but just gently rubbed on the slider rail in the inside of the hood. And beware of getting it anywhere else!

I had read a few review on this hood ,some good and some otherwise, but having had JJC goods before, took the risk.when I recieved it it was as some reviews had stated, a little stiff in its operation, this was remedied by using a soft HB pencil and rubbing the lead against the internal sliding surfaces thereby putting a little graphite on the working parts ,it now works fine and is easy to extend and retract, and it was less than £20

I bought this as the Olympus lens hood for the Olympus 60mm is way over-priced. This one fits the 60mm nicely, thought it's not reversable. Other than that, it works as well as you'd expect. The locking mechanism of the hood is a litlle more complicated that you'd imagine, but it's easy to fit and remove with the arrow indicator provided. I'm pretty happy with it, mainly as I saved a small fortune. Good value.

Okay so it's not a perfect fit as others have said, but it's what I would call a snug fit, it won't drop off and it does the job.To me part of the job of this lens hood is to keep the lens clean, how many times have you got too close when you're out in the field and ended up with a wet mess on your lens, well this hood keeps the front lens at a safe distance.Feels solid and okay for the price.

I have been using this for months now and can say having played with the Olympus version as well that this is definitely a better choice when the cost is taken into account. There is NO real difference between the two. Buy this one and you will be effectively using the Olympus version while saving quite some money.

Excellent value for money and has the same slide forward and back operating method as the genuine Olympus original. But the genuine item is slick and smooth, this one sticks and struggles but gets there.I haven’t yet tried replacing the lubricant as suggested by some other users.

I have purchased a number of JJC lens hoods and have been impressed with the quality - they fit cleanly on the lens compared with some other compatible hoods I have bought in the past. They are excellent value - particularly compared with the massive cost of the olympus brand hoods.

A little bit stiff when extending and returning to the storage position, but , for the price , it’s amazing . Really doesn’t bother me at all ,as it’s a lens hood after all . Excellent design for having an “ always on “ lens hood . Surprised there aren’t more with this design !

28.12.2014

Not cheap for what it is but it fits my new Olympus 60mm macro lens fine and so much cheaper than the ridiculous price Olympus charge for something that should be included with the lens. If Olympus didn't charge so much for their hood this would probably be cheaper again.

I was a little worried before buying this at the reviews but I took the bullet and bought it, it is a third of the price of the genuine Olympus version and works perfectly, just push it up and down a few times when first used and it works spot on
