I am an Ulsterman. You will not encounter any species better qualified to review a rain-management product. As a student I lugged around a golf umbrella, but the march of my twenties, small car-ownership and a developing taste for gore-tex and waxed cotton led me away from the use of personal canopies. Now, deep into my thirty-seventh year, something snapped within me and I found myself taking interest in and pleasure from the purchase of an umbrella.This device attracted me because of its blue-and-wood theme and its classic Mary Poppins era dimensions. It is light and easy to hold up for long walks. It expands with a satisfactory but not violent whoomp. It sports an attractive metal ferrule.

This unit replaced a failed manually-opening Falcone umbrella which partly failed due to broken spokes. Having had recent experience of using it for the first time in strong wind and heavy rain, it proved robust and hopefully will last as long as the previous one. For a pensioner, the auto-release is rather abrupt due to strong internal springing so should be held upright, clear of other persons when opening. Its opening is best controlled by holding the hub of the spoke assembly, at the same time as releasing the operating button. This reduces the shock to the hood on auto-opening and restraining this abrupt opening will enhance the life of the umbrella.

I had been wary about buying an umbrella “unseen” without being able to check the opening mechanism, weight, etc - but this is a great umbrella! It worked well from its first outing in windy wet weather. Am really pleased with this purchase & seller

The umbrella looks robust but I have yet to test it in high wind conditions. There are a set of springs attached to the internal spokes which is how it should retain its shape in wind?

bought this for my husband - he thought that it was really smart. haven't used it yet so can't really comment but it looks and feels good quality.

Really lovely looking umbrella. Not used yet but looks well made and sturdy. I love the wooden handle and shaft.
