For it’s purpose it’s a great controller. It’s probably the best d-pad you can get on the switch (it’s much better than the already good d-pad on the pro controller) aside from an 8bitdo controller, so it works really well for Pokken. It’s probably the best controller you can use for that game, which isn’t surprising since it was designed with that game in mind. But it’s also exceptional for other 2D games like Shovel Knight. Just keep in mind that ZL and ZR are now buttons on the front instead of triggers, so for games that use those inputs this controller isn’t for those. But most 2D games aside from Smash and a few others don’t need them.It doesn’t have a “cheap” feeling to it,although it’s very lightweight compared to a pro controller, so this can put people off and it did put me off at first. But its large grips make it very comfortable to use.One last small issue is it’s lack of inputs. If you need the best dpad, get this, but if you’re not fussy then a pro controller still works really well, and I do not recommend buying this INSTEAD of a pro controller, because a pro controller works on almost EVERY game in the Switch, as it has all the inputs required. It’s not meant to be a replacement switch controller, merely just another option to have for 2D games. BUT the fact it lacks a home button and a screenshot button means you have to have another controller next to you just to exit a game or screenshot, which is quite ridiculous. So it’s a great buy, with a few flaws. If you love Pokken or 2D games on the Switch. But don’t expect it to be great for all Switch games, just for games that require a good dpad.

I'll preface this with what might be the obvious: this controller is not one for every game. It's not even a controller for many games, but for the games where it works, it's the best by far. What you have is a fantastic D Pad with your usual face buttons, and a single L and R button on the shoulders (there's ZL and ZR next to the start and select buttons too but you won't really be using those). For your SNES Online, your NES Online, Arcade Archives, your Shovel Knight, Mario Maker 2, you honestly won't find a better controller. If you happen to have a device like the TItan Two, you can add to this list by remapping the D Pad to an analogue stick for games like Link's Awakening too,but that's a niche within a niche. The controller feels divine, the L and R being larger feels wonderful to hit, and I really can't complain, especially for the £20ish I paid.

Best D-Pad on the Switch, do not listen to the people who clain the 8bitDo controllers have good D-pads as they are oversensitive and will give false inputs, this is a perfect pad. The L and R buttons are also large and easily accessed. Lz and Rz, however, are small and out of the way so I do not recommend it for any game that uses them and it is missing the capture and home button which can be more annoying than it sounds. If you do not mind the limitations and are getting mad at all the D-pads ruining your fun by sucking, then this is no1 option for docked play.

This is my number one controller for fighting and retro 2D games. It doesn’t give you sore thumbs and is really comfortable, while giving you the accuracy you need. The durability is astounding and the USB means low latency. The JoyCon and Pro Controller can easily wear out while pulling off moves in Ultra Street Fighter, whereas the Pokken Tournament controller is hard wearing and precise. This is the next best alternative to using an arcade stick. I couldn’t recommend anything better and I’ve tried them all - even 8Bitdo. Nothing beats this.

Works great for this game and any other non 3D game. As it has no right thumb stick then will not work on Mario odyssey or Zelda. Basically the same as an arcade or old school SNES controller.Very solid, good length lead and kids use it most of the time over joy cons or my precious pro controller.

It has a great d-pad. Perfect choice for 2D and platforming games. Plastic feels good and has a comfortable shape. Cable is pretty long, about 3 meters.
