I was looking for a compact tripod to take travelling/fishing/hiking. This product seemed to fit the billing, but I felt I was taking a slight risk due to lack of reviews. Hopefully this helps others in this situation! I am an enthusiastic amateur who upgraded from a Hama star64.On opening the box, the immediate impression is the ridiculous size of the folded tripod. It is less than half the size of my old Hama. At 30cm, it would fit in a rucksack- ideal for my upcoming honeymoon in South Africa where security is a concern. The tripod is sturdy and solid: it is slightly heavier than my old tripod, but I don't actually mind this as it provides a more stable base for the camera, and we're not talking back breaking by any means. The legs have three settings, allowing for low level work e.g. beach/water shots. What distinguished the triad from other compact travel tripods (and believe me I did my research) was the height to which it can be raised. Yes, it is slightly smaller than a full size tripod. But this difference is negligable, and since I was looking for a full time replacement, the level of extension was a must. The legs extend easily with a half turn and can be all loosened at once, speeding up setup time. There is a hook for extra weight as you would expect, and the central shaft can be reversed for delicate macro work. The ball joint head has a panning feature as well as all the flexibility of a ball head. I was sligthly concerned about mounting my Fujifilm HS30EXR at full zoom along with my Raynox 2.2 teleconverter, but thus far i have been pleasantly surprised: the Triad holds it securely and firmly with no 'slippage' at full extension. The ball head is detachable, meaning you can add your old favourite or purchase a purpose designed head such as a trigger grip. The quick release system is clever and secure and the plate which secures to the bottom of your camera is much smaller than that on other models, meaning it can be left in place all the time. If I had one criticism, it would be the quality of the rubber fixings connected to the metal: this seems a little loose, but a bit of glue could sort that out. In reality, it does not take a lot of effort to loosen/tighten the fittings. I noticed another reviewer commmented on the legs coming loose: I have not had this happen (perhaps because I haven't been in the mad rush to catch the right light in the field yet) but his advice seems pretty sound: there is little in life that can't be fixed with a touch of epoxy! Overall, I am delighted with the size, build quality and stability of this product, especially at the price. After all, who wants to pay £150+ for a tripod?

Bought to replace a very strong but ancient tripod that has seen better days, this is a little delight. It is very light and compact, and fits nicely into the bag it comes in. The twist locks on the legs work very well, and each leg has a degree of independence for those poised between rocks in mid-stream waiting for THAT moment moments.... You've been there too, I'm sure.Whilst not the most robust out there, I'm sure - this tripod is absolutely the business with my (also ancient) Minolta 35mm SLR, Sony Camcorder and my Fujifilm HS30 bridge camera. ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-HS30EXR-EXR-CMOS-discontinued-manufacturer/dp/B006Q8VA2W/ref=sr_1_18?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413364062&sr=1-18&keywords=fujifilm+bridge )It handles very well - and being very compact (yet fully extendible) this goes on a lot more trips than it's predecessor ever did.The centre column reverses nice and easily, so that you can invert the camera for those interesting close-ups and macro shots of insects on flowers. There is a handy hook at the base of the centre column so that you can easily add a little weight to your set-up to get a little extra stability where needed. The 360 degree head works well - even with the heavier Minolta and zoom locked on and (so far) hasn't slipped. The snatch plate is simple enough to operate. All in all this was a very good buy - especially as I bought it as a "Deal Of The Day". There was some trepidation that I would struggle to fold it back down small enough to get it back into the tiny case - but it was very logical. All in all a really nice piece of kit that will get a lot of work, and go lots of places.I see that there is now a newer version of this unit available. That seems to have the added advantage of a 'mono-pod' that you can create from one of the legs and the head unit. Makes good sense - but in now way distracts from the fact that this one is a really deal - possibly even better as they will probably reduce the price again!

Handy inexpensive tripod. I think it is good, but I would not even think about using this with a heavy camera or my heavy 300mm lens. It is fine for what it is designed for, a travel tripod for amateur use.It is compact when folded (just over a foot long), but no lighter than the mid size carbon tripod I have. Being able to tuck this into the bottom of my work bag is very handy. It seems robust so far. I have used it on a trip to Seoul and found it easy to set up. I have not tried it in the wind yet, I suspect it will be ok if I don't use the centre column (which is not too easy to tighten properly) and with a bit of ballast (using the attached hook). The supplied ball head is fine, it has 'pinch'mechanism, like arca swiss, but it is not compatible with arca swiss dimensions. It is solid enough, the legs are a little stiff when folding back on itself, but that is ok. I did manage to pull one of the legs apart by over-loosening the twist lock mechanism once. Luckily this was indoors so the internal sliding plates were easy to find. I will report back if this happens again.

A quality compact and affordable tripod. It has a bit of flex in the central post so it may not be as sturdy as a heavier duty tripod but, for the weight of the thing, it does a great job.I did have an issue on my very first shoot out; on my return walk home I hooked the tripod over the strap of my camera bag and the ball-head lock unscrewed itself and was lost. Without this, the ball-head moves freely rendering the tripod useless. However, I contacted Hahnel directly to enquire about spare parts and the replacement part was in the post the very same day. I was half expecting them to want a ridiculous amount of money for a tiny component.I thought I might end up just buying a new ball-head from somewhere else but they supplied the replacement part at no expense!Overall, very happy with the product and support.

Had a great deal on this tripod. If I remember rightly I paid around £35 in a high street store. It has been very useful for taking on holiday due to its ability to fold up small and it certainly looks the part and comparable to the look of the more expensive brands. As some other reviewers have said, it can be quite fiddly to put up due to the screw style legs. The major gripe for me has been the fact that the rubber strips on the plate have fallen off so the camera tends to slip on the head. I contacted hahnel regarding this and was directed to purchase a new plate from amazon. In summary, at £35 and absolute bargain and was worth every penny even taking in to account its short comings,if it was priced at nearer the £100 mark then I would advise to look else where.

While it's not as light or stable as a more premium travel tripod such as the amazing SIRUI T-025X (which is based off a similar design), it's also not as expensive either. For the price it's a superb travel tripod as good as you'll get from many competitors. The Quick release plate is a big disappointment though - it is so close to being compatible with the industry standard Arca Swiss style plate, but is just the wrong size. I don't understand the logic behind this decision to be "almost compatible", and that's why it misses a star. If you need a spare or just want the plate permanently mounted on 2 cameras, you have to be careful to buy one specifically compatible.

Very impressed with this tripod. Did a bit of homework and this version fitted the bill, something that fitted in the bag. I would also speculate that this model is also being sold under at least two other well regarded brand names for a fair amount more. The panorama part of the head was a bit stiff to start with. This can be easily fixed by taking the head off dismantling the three screws and re-greasing with a thinner grease.

Was sturdier than expected, which is good. Looked at a youtube review and found that it was exactly what it wanted. There are a couple issues when tightening the legs, sometimes they will get loose, and because of the weird shape, I find difficulty packing it away. Saying that, for £40 it was a really good price and definitely worth it.

This is certainly the most 'travel friendly' tripod that I have. The thin legs do flex a little, but what else can one expect in such a compact tripod. I'm glad I bought it and I definitely carry a tripod more now than I used to.

Very compact and transportable. Easy set up. Aesthetically pleasing. The only issue I have is the ball joint. It's not as good quality as others out there but that's a sacrifice expected for the low price point of the tripod.

Compact and strong, but not especially low weight in my view.I have another (slightly larger) tripod which probably isn't as robust, but is certainly a good bit lighter
