Firstly, this game is for ages eighteen plus and not 12 plus, like it is listed on here, due to loads of over-the-top gore and violence (and believe me that is not a bad thing). It is difficult to tell whether this game is set after the events of Evil Dead 2 or the Fistful of Boomstick game, but either way it starts off in the infamous cabin (is it a hallucination? It features similar events to Evil Dead 2) and then jumps to the sanatorium, where a mad professor is attempting to create human/deadite hybrids, as well as technological hybrids. Obviously it is up to Ash to stop him, save the world and rescue the 'gal' as well (Ash's feisty lawyer). When the game starts off the graphics are different to a Fistful of Boomstick, still excellent, but the cutscenes are very different to previous games (that's neither a good nor a bad thing), they just use a different quality of graphics, more cartoonish than the previous game. Ash looks a bit different to previous games and at the start of the game it doesn't sound like Bruce Campbell at first, but once the insults come thick and fast, you know it’s the main man himself. The difficulty of these games is infamous in that alot of gamers find them taxing (check reviews to the Hail to the King game and Fistful of Boomstick for proof), that is still the case with this game. While it can be infuriating at times, dying just before you reach a save point, it is designed for the mature gamer, so it's not supposed to be a "walk in the park".Some new improvements to the game include unlockable extras (excellent extras full of the fantastic Bruce Campbell in the recording studio and being interviewed) and the addition of Ash's sideKICK (pun intended, as you really do kick the character around), Sam, a Deadite/human hybrid who assists you in sniffing out inter-dimensional portals and annoying Ash (He looks remarkably like a Deadite version of Larry from the Leisure Suit Larry game). Sam is voiced by the excellent Ted Raimi and the comments he comes away with are hilarious, they never get boring. He spends alot of the game complaining and bitching with Ash - which is very funny. When I initially heard of the introduction of Sam's character to the game I was dubious as to whether it would be beneficial to the game or not and I am pleased to say it most certainly is, because he not only assists gameplay, but also adds alot of humour to an already hilarious game. It sounds like they must have had a great time recording the game. One of the other key features in this game is the ability to transform into Evil Ash at will to take on large numbers of opponents, as well as other powers that become available as you progress through the game. This game really is fun; it's not designed to be a serious, gritty game, but rather a hilarious splatter-fest shock full of horror, violence and the excellent witty remarks from both Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi. It's great to see the game keeps such close ties to the film series (the fact that it has Sam Raimi's brother featured as a character aptly named Sam) and that they still use the talents of Bruce Campbell.Fans of the film series may or may not like this game, fans of Bruce Campbell or Ted Raimi will not be disappointed. If you like horror games full of gore and zombies, then this is without a doubt the game for you.Worth every penny, brings a new lease of life to an already excellent series of games.

Being one of those unfortunate people that have not quite upgraded to X-box 360, or been totally ripped off paying extravagant amounts for PS3, I find myself digging through the basement bargains bins for cheap gaming entertainment to pass the occasional hour that I get in the evening. So I picked up this game for a few quid and was not really expecting too much.In the game you play Ash, chopping his way through countless hoards of Deadite scum, with his trusty chainsaw and boom-stick. The Evil Dr Reinhard taking ownership of the Necronomicon, whilst Ash is forced to make his escape after being imprisoned in an asylum to rescue Sally. The action, play sequence and plot seems to get a little monotonous at times but the bosses at the end of each chapter seems to be fairly easy to kill, and it was nice to find a game that I did not have to scour the internet looking for cheats to help me through the game. Incidentally - and I could be wrong on this - I do not think you'll find any out there anyway ! The two hardest bosses in my own opinion were the giant frog - which if you harpoon its tongue to the floor and hack it with the chainsaw and the final boss The Evil Dr Reinhard which goes down fairly easy it you kick Sam at the Necronomicon during the re-energising phase. One bonus in this game is that the voice of our hero Ash is played by the ever lovable Bruce Campbell, whose quick wit and remarks make an otherwise mediocre game an enjoyable piece of dead crunching, demon demolishing, skeleton crushing, computer entertainment. Ted Raimi as Sam - Ash's deadite side kick - is worthy of a mention in the supporting role, whose lines of script only add to the comedy factor in this game. I also thoroughly enjoyed being able to turn into Evil Ash, powering up to take out those bad guys.Something that I really was not too keen on, was the fact that you could not save the game at some points when you really wanted too. There are save points throughout the game, but sometimes I just wanted to save the game at placed where no save was available - forcing me to yet again play through screens and kill villains after dying stupidly a few seconds later !I did find myself at the end of this game totally perplexed by the ending. OK so Ash has beaten the evil big boss, but like everything else in his life, everything seems to turn to Ash. Maybe that was why Ash was named Ash, everything turning to Ash no matter what the hero does. Poor Sally !Enjoyable Deadite nonsense !

I was after a game that was for mature gamers with a nice mix of puzzles, gore and progresive difficulty. The puzzles are ok. The gore and one-liners funny. But the difficulty doesn't change. In fact the game gets easier as it goes along! The last level is more of the same and the fact that you get infinite ammo on all your weapons removes the skill in choosing what to use and what to save.Overall this is a disappointing game but only because you expect so much from the franchise.

This is worth playing just for the dialog, "how do you say shut the hell up in dead midget?" this game has me laughing but i am a bruce cambell fan. The gameplay is'nt too bad and the graphics are reasonable, but the main draw here is the bickering between ash and the deadite midget.
