In my opinion, Dead Or Alive 2 currently just holds the title of best beat 'em up ever, with Tekken Tag close behind. Interactive backgrounds, counter attacks and holds, and extremely fast action is the way to go in future beat 'em ups. Also, the controls can mean that anyone can just pick up the controller and play, but also means that if you're a hardcore fan of the game, you can master it and learn huge attack combos and combo throws. Also, it has the ability to have tag team battles, which brings out whole new tactics for when you are fighting. Using quick tag means that both your characters can destroy the person you are fighting at almost the same time. Then there are the double team moves, which, for some reason, Tekken Tag has hardly any of. Interactive backgrounds are also a very good feature on DOA2. Instead of just being in the middle of a place that just goes on forever, you can get to the walls and smash your unfortunate opponent into them, or through them!! What makes this feature even better is that some of your moves change by the wall. For example, Tina does a type of suplex against the wall and then smashes them into the floor. But, my favourite thing about this game has to be the counter ability. No more computer blocking forever if you're beating it, now both you and the computer have the ability to counter, which, once mastered, is a very important thing to do, because if not you could easily get beat quickly. Not only can you can counter attack, but also you can counter them into a hold, and sometimes a combo hold, which is multiple holds in a row that usually ends on one huge blow. The only disappointment is the end boss, Tengu, and the lack of characters. Overall, an incredible game that is worthy of best beat 'em up title.

DOD2 has something I don't think any game hasn't had so far and I'm not talking about the bounching breasts on the very fine modelled female characters (for which there are galleries and bikini slideshows to unlock) of the game.Free movement. The game looks absolutely exellent then you kick, throuch or dive though large stained glass windows of cathedrals, over balconies in Hong Kong, kick the advesary into electric fences or bashes his/her head into grinding pieces of machinery. There is even a avalanche you can throw your opponent into! Some things that isn't that good in the game: The male characters haven't been given the same amount of detail as the females, there is a almose infinite number of combos, but mostly you just press the buttons wildly and at the least: The storylines for each character is downright crappy. But if you can live with that and it's okey to beat computer characters up in the best beatem'up game of the year (and next year) and you can see though the bounching breasts (you can turn that off if you want to.) this is a most exellent game... even is they looked alot on Tekken when they did the characters. ;)

I have been a die-hard Tekken fan since buying my Playstation 4 years ago, so it pains me to say this but, DOA2 is leagues ahead of TTT. In terms of fighting, it offers interactive (or should that be "collapsible"?) scenery and is a hell of a lot faster. Once you've master 10 hit combos and counter moves in Tekken, you are pretty much invinsible and any opponent would have to be pretty well initiated in all things Iron Fist not to get their butt kicked. The beauty of DOA2 is in it's simplistic but effective control system - you can have much "closer" matches with a relative beginner, but that does not mean that it is not without it's hidden depths (and we're not talking cleavage....),and there's great pleasure to be had in shoving your opponent through walls and windows!!! Tekken's answer is a flash of colourful light when you make impact (maybe Tekken 4 will evolve and have "Batman-style" captions like "POW!!!!" and "BIFF!!" [- actually a Batman fighting game would be pretty cool....]) Since buying DOA2, TTT has been sat in it's box, I can't be any clearer than that!

Finally, a descent beat-em-up that's not Tekken!I must admit that I was a little dubious about buying this as my first PS2 title. The game flaunts obvious attractions (a CG gallery? Oh please...), but don't let these lead you into thinking that there's nothing beneath the veneer. The game boasts its own set of tricks, including multi-level fighting arenas, the 'Danger Zones' debuting in the first installment, smooth graphics and a blistering frame-rate. The characters have an excellent repertoire of attacks, counters and throws, and some of the tag-battle changeovers are extremely slick.Criticisms? There aren't enough characters. The 'extra modes' such as time battles and survival modes are completely unexceptional.Something a little more original please?Still, as a no-brainer it qualifies highly. If you don't feel like immersing yourself into something like Final Fantasy IX or Shadow of Memories, you could do far worse.

Simply put, this is still the best beat 'em up on PS2 - along with Virtua Fighter 4.The games graphics are sublime, very difficult to find any flaws, and the fighting system is the best out there, with the grab techniques adding a new dimension to the genre. This game wipes the floor with its comparison Tekken Tag. Yeh TT is a pretty good game, but DOA2 is just so much better in every way. The pace of the gameplay is so fast and addictive you'l hardly put it down, and with the ability to send your opponents flying through walls and over steep ledges before going after them to finish them off is amazing. The most feature packed beat 'em up yet. such a shame DOA3 is a (haha) Xbox exclusive.

I have never really been a fan of the fighting game until I tried DOA2 as I was bored. The graphics are OK and the gameplay is simple enough. And it is a better game than the Dreamcast version - although there is not that much between them. The one area in which this game is a cut above is in the earned extras. The bounce factor makes for some interesting viewing and the multi uniforms certainly add to the entertainment! Bouncy bouncy schoolgirls fighting, now that's what I call a great excuse for a PS2. Ayane rules!

This is by far the best fighting game on the ps2, if not the greatest fighting game of all time.I owned a copy of this years ago when it originally came out and I must have clocked up over a hundred hours playing it. Repurchased it to play on my ps3 in anticipation of it's return to playstation. Hasn't aged a bit, the rounded anime inspired graphics make it timeless and for such a fast paced fighter it runs very smoothly. Recommend this to any fighting game fan.

What more can I add to the other reviews? This game is simply unbelieveable, particularly when played in tag team mode with a friend. We have taken to using the two Japanese girls and mastering their moves and we can now usually soundly thrash any other pair of opponents within seconds. If you haven't played this game, rent it. If you've already rented it, buy it. If you've already bought it, love it !!!

This is the ultimate fighting game for serious fighting gamers. 10 times better than TTT, you get to choose between a number of characters. My favourite has to Jann Lee (Bruce Lee) as his Jeet Kune Do style is proper dark. Anyway, get it B4 anyone else does!!!!!!!

A game that despite it's age, still holds gameplay-wise up today and feels like it was ahead of it's time when released.
