eukanuba is a quality brand leader that i have known about for years but i have never purchased as it is quite expensive...however in this life i do believe you get what you pay for!!!i have 2 westies who are now nearly 12...they are slowing down a bit and sleep a bit more...but it is obvious they are getting older...hopefully we will have many more happy years together and if spending more on their food helps them stay stronger and healthier during that time its a small price to pay.the previous reviews or a simple search of the brand will tell you the nutritional facts but i will tell you how my two are getting on.george and mildred are twin westies - mildred has always had a sensitive stomachand can suffer if her diet is changed - george was not as bad but in the last few months his stomach is getting the same as his sisters. i have never given them rich food or leftovers as on the occasions somebody has tried to slip them a sausage roll or such like...i have to deal with the consequences.also george is a nibbler not a chomper like his sister so his teeth have tartar building up...the vet could remove it - but putting a dog under anaesthic (wrong spelling i know) is never good and it is more dangerous as they get older!why am i wittering -well dry food is better than wet as it helps clean the teeth and reduce tartar so this is ideal - plus it claims to help reduce this. (i add a bit of fresh chicken or salmon for a taste sensation)...they have this twice a day plus a dentastix as a treat as they also reduce tartar build up.also cheaper brands use a lot of fillers which can upset their stomachs...i have always avoided them (george and mildred have been on iams all their life as it is a good brand and cheaper).i know brands hype what they can do - but at the end of the day i think if you know you have done your very best for them, you as the owner/mother/father know you have done your job as best you can.it may seem expensive - about £1.00 a day for a small dog or £2.00 a day for a larger one...but to put it into perspective for me i just thought of how much i would happily spend on a pizza or other take away for one meal!you know they are worth it - maybe try one of the smaller sizes first as we know these 4 legged children can be fussy - but i am sure they will enjoy it due to the high meat/protien content!

We have an 13 year old Standard Poodle and Collie cross who tends to put on weight very easily and quickly due to slowing down as he has a very stiff joints. His quality of life is good but we too k advice on his diet to see if we could help him out. Our vest recommended this food and gave us some samples to try before we spent out on larger amounts. It's early days yet as we have only been on this trial for 3 weeks. So far he likes the food and following the detailed feeding instructions on the pack to the letter he appears to be much happier and a lot less stiff. The ingredients are top quality and there is no cheap fillers like many of the supermarket brands.I would say he has much more interest in life now and does not need the anti-inflammatory the vet prescribed for his joints. We did try the joint supplement on hi9m but he prefers the taste of this so we will stick with it and report back again.Even in three weeks we have noticed he has some of his old energy back and now plays with our Jack Russell's like he used to. Our Vet his pleased with his progress and although an expensive food it seems worth every penny to see him enjoying life in his old age again. It is also nice to not have to give him anti-inflammatory pills each day and the cost of not having to do this has more than paid for this food. We will keep him on it and I will report back after a few months to see how this died works over a longer term.

It has long been apparent that the nutritional requirements of older dogs are different from those of an energetic puppy. As such. Eukanuba have put together a complete dog kibble that is specifically designed for the more mature dog in your life. The Senior Plus kibble contains the correct levels of protein, and carbohydrates, whilst also giving Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate to support the joints of older dogs.As with all Eukanuba, it is modelled with the DentaDefense HMP system, to help remove tartar from your dog's teeth. It also helps to prevent more from building up.In terms of whether it supports the nutritional requirements of the senior dog in my life, I can only hope so.It certainly sounds impressively good. Perhaps more importantly, my dog seems to really enjoy her Eukanuba. In fact, she has not found a Eukanuba product that she hasn't enjoyed, so far. She also has not suffered from any real digestive upsets since switching to a Eukanuba diet. I wish I had tried her on this when she was younger, as she has always been a dog with a sensitive digestive system!Overall, I cannot argue that the Eukanuba Senior Plus seems to be a nutritionally sound option for your dog. My only quibble, as always with Eukanuba, is whether I can justify the humans in our household all switching to lower quality food in order to sustain our new expensive dog food habit!

Well so far this has had a paws up as it has been wolfed down. We have made sure that he actually does like the food and will eat it first by giving him taster meals of it and introducing it slowly as per the instructions. We are using the dry food as a mixer to the wet food, as having always fed both we think it preferable to stick to this rather than doing a total switch to dry food and so not to upset him with the sudden major change to his diet. The bag is very very big and I hadn't realised that 12kg was quite that much, so I am pleasantly surprised and also wondering where on earth to store it! The bag advises that it should last around 55 days but this is obviously dependent on your dogs weight, how much you are feeding per day and this guideline is also based on your dog being around the 20kg weight range. Also this is based just on one dog so if you have two or more then this bag will last less than the 55 days estimate. The big bonus is that the bag is resealable with a zip lock at the top and so very pleased with not having to decant to a separate container all of the time and the food being able to stay fresh. I can't confirm so soon if there have been any positive effect's from this food but we shall wait and see if this does makes any difference and the science part on the bag and the description certainly leads me to believe that it will.

It's important to us that we look after our furry friend the best we can, so we usually try to give him the best food available. Until recently he had been having Baker's dry biscuits. I decided that a change might be a good idea and decided to give this Eukanuba for what we call "older puppies" or as the company calls it: "Senior 9 Plus".He wasn't too fond at first and, to be honest, neither was I as when I opened the bag there was a dusty smell to it. So I decided to mix it in with the joint care biscuit. He's not a dumb dog - if I put the "Senior" and he can smell it he won't touch it, but if I put some of the Joint Care on top and he can't smell the "Senior" then he will start to eat ituntil he can smell/taste the "Senior" and he stops. We now use biscuits as treats (rather than doggy sweeties) and he seems all right when they were being popped into his mouth one at a time - sort of like a furry drooling slot machine that doesn't pay off! There is obviously something about the smell/taste of the biscuits that he doesn't like when they are in the dish on mass, but as individual treats he will eat them. I'm still not sure why.Our friend's dog, however, doesn't have any qualms about eating the biscuits (with or without the Joint Care ones) so I would suggest that, just like people, there are ingredients that some dogs don't like too.

Grabbed this for my 10 year old Ladrador. She is getting on now and like most older dogs has arthitus and is very slow moving.Normally i feed her those meat trays you get and thought i would try this out on her.1st day i put it down she looked at me as if to say what the hell is that, but i just walked away and left her too it.30 seconds later she had demolished it, come up to me on the sofa, grabbed the sleeve of my cardigan and pulled me back towards the kitchen where she shoved her nose in the bowl and looked up at me with expectant eyes.Poor thing, i didnt give into her tho, but did the same thing at dinner time and she whoomped it down. She has now been on it twice a day for the last week and i have to say i am absolutely amazed at the difference in her.She is more bouncy, happier, a lot livelier, runs like a much younger dog, and when i took her down the beach i couldnt get her off even after 2 hours. Normally when she has had enough, usually after 15 minutes she will saunter up to me and just flop down on the sand and refuse to move, but nope she kept me out for hours.Im really happy she likes it because it feels like having her as a pupy all over again.Only problem is, im absolutely jiggered all the time lolVery highly recomended..

having used the Eukanuba senior/mature which is for dogs aged 7+ i cannot see any real difference between that product and this except for the addition of glucosamine and condroitin, so i cannot help but feel that it is a bit of a marketing ploy, surely 7 years + includes 9 years onwards, so why not add glucosamine into the mature food and call it all 7 years +.looking at the full range of Eukanuba i think they have gone a little little silly with their marketing in a ploy to reach everyone, when realistically a smaller range of good quality nutritionally sound food should meet the needs of our canine population. they would be better to do a senior 7+ food but in different flavours.that said, the food is good quality, my fussy hounds like it and what i particularly like is the fact it is all natural with no artificial preservatives, flavours or colourants added and it is 100% complete and balanced. I personally have always given my older dogs Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements and i think the addition of this to the food is a positive thing.the 4 star rating is just down to the excessive marketing which puts me off, also it is quite confusing being faced with so many varieties of Eukanuba which are too similar.

We got this for our 9 year old Cocker Spaniel who has recently gone through an operation to mend some ligament damage in one of her legs. She has always been a (hyper) active dog who doesn't sit still for very long, so hopefully this Senior 9 Plus dry food will aid her rehabilitation. She already eats other Eukauba food so, moving her onto this has not been much of a problem. We have also been feeding her the Eukanuba Sensitive Joints food as her primary meal, which so far has gone down well. She has only had a couple of bowls of the Senior Plus, and she seems to have wolfed it down without any issue. Once the sensitive joint sack is done she should be fully healed, and we will fully move over to this one.Even though she is 9, she doesn't look, or act it, and it still as active at play as a puppy, getting several long walks every day. I'm sure this food will maintain her agility, appetite, and keep everything working as it should. This is fairly pricey, but Amazon do generally offer it at a lower price than you will see at pet stores, but I'd advise to keep an eye out for any offers if you are concerned about the expense. At 12Kg though, this should keep even the most voracious dog happy for a long time.

Over the past few months I have moved my 9 year old Malamute from Arden Grange as it was getting too pricey and difficult to get hold of. He had "digestive problems" with Red Mills so was swiftly moved onto Skinners where he faired better but his poo's were soft. We then moved him to Burns which is a quality brand and he has seemed much better and you feed less the higher quality food is so you can't compare costs alone.Opportunity arose to test Eukanuba's offering. Opened the bag and immediately he started salivating...good sign then...wolfed the first bowl down and, unlike him, kept leading me to the bag of food. A few days in and he's loving it.It's too early to tell what the long term will be but his bowl movements have already improved and he seems a little bit happier although that could be weather related. The price is steep but matching quantities with the Burns, this requires even less than them! Would I move wholesale to this food? Possibly, I'm going to give it a few more weeks and hopefully remember to update the review.Quantities from the bag:5kg - 80-90g/day10kg - 130-14020kg - 205-22530kg - 265-29540kg - 325-36060kg - 425-470

We have been trying this Eukanuba food out with a 9 year old Labrador who is fed a combination of wet and dry food. Often he is less keen on the dry food but that is not the case with this Eukanuba Senior Plus Dry food - he actively seeks it out and seems to really enjoy it, "asking" for more when his dish is finished. Of course, the critical test is the long term benefits of this food, although it is early days, the evidence is that this is an excellent dry food and it contains chicken, minerals, vitamins and many other nutrients which I'm sure have been well researched by Eukanuba. In this hot weather especially if you are going out for the day dry food (in combination with a supply of fresh water)seems much more hygienic and easier to manage. This 12kg bag is enormous and will last ages for a single dog and it has a convenient zip top to ensure the freshness is maintained. In summary, well liked by our "tester" Labrador, plus it contains lots of healthy ingredients for the mature dog. Recommended.

The tester of this Eukanuba Senior 9 Plus is a 13-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, and he enjoys it thoroughly. It is too soon in the feeding regimen to be able to tell if the food has had any positive effects on his issues with arthritis and some muscle wastage, but we are optimistic that the high protein levels and glucosamine/chrondroitin content may help him over time. Even disregarding that, he enjoys the food so much that it's worth it.The kibbles are much smaller and flatter in this senior version than in the other types of Eukanuba dog food we have tested, and thus more suited to elderly dogs who are prone to dental issues/loss of jaw muscle, yet still contains the "3D dentadefence" system which ostensibly helps to keep dogs'teeth cleaner. The food seems to sate him even at slightly below the feeding guideline amount, and has not caused any digestive issues. We are happy with it and will continue to feed him this.

We look after a variety of dogs from time to time. Currently one of them is an old springer spaniel who I think is around 11 years of age. She is suffering with some health issues and isn't very active. Her back-end is also showing signs of deterioration and she does sometimes get a bit disorientated, so we're not sure how long she'll be with us.Fortunately, the moment she saw/smelt this food arrive she tore through the packaging of this and a second bag of Eukanuba puppy food like a dog possessed and proceeded to try to gorge herself on it until I managed to get her off.Presumably that's not a bad indication of desirability.Since being on this food I could be imagining it,but she does seem a bit more sprightly and happier in herself. Soft stools and an increase in wind aside, this food seems to be popular with the ol' girl, and as long as she's happy that's all that matters.

I've always seen Eukanuba recommended by every vet that I've been to, however with the exception of post operation recovery food I've never bought it purely because it is so much more expensive than the other mainstream brands and shop own ones. However having gotten this bag I can see why the cost differenceThe look, feel, shape of the food is completely different from what we've had before for our pooch, which at first seemed a bit of an issue for him which I think was because of the unfamiliarity of the texture and taste. However once he got past that he seems to have taken to it.So far there doesn't seem to have been any of the sometimes all to often reactions a dogs digestive system can have to a change in food which is also a positive. Will we get this again? On the nutrition and dental benefits definitely, cost is a bit of an issue but not enough to knock a star off.

Malika has just reached the age where we need to give her some extra in her diet to protect her. She has really enjoyed this food, and has been a little more lively. The problem I am having is that there is that there isn't a good enough information about what is in the food, to come to a proper conclusion about it.Contains" Important antioxidants, betacarotene and vitamin E to help support dogs' natural defenses "hardly surprising in any dog food"Glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate to help promote healthy joints"Whether these are effective supplements for animals there continues to be an open scientific dispute about, but they are not harmful.I have no hesitation in recommending the quality of this food, but there is something instinctively worrying about the idea of spending more on feeding a dog than on feeding one of our children.

I have a fourteen years young male cocker spaniel who has always been a notoriouslypicky eater who over the years has driven me demented trying to tempt him to eat.He was at present on Iams for seniors when I decided to review this.It is expensive but then so is Iams and I have to coax Barney to eat it with bitsof chicken and then he leaves more than half. This arrived and I am absolutely amazed - Barney at first did his little dance around hisdish as if to say I am not at all hungry but after a little bit of coaxing he reallyactually seemed to be enjoying it, I could not believe it - for the first time in yearshe clears his bowl, he is actually loving his food.On walks his bodily functions are fine and he is definetly displaying more energy,Iabsolutely recommend this food for seniors and in this case you do get what you pay for.
