RE: (5 Star Drill) @ a (5 star price)...I bought this drill again, because I have already owned this 18v Drill for 2 years. (Due to heavy use) the batteries began to 'wean'and die, after 2 years heavy use which is FABULOUS.I would like to say anyone wanting a drill for steel, wood, or masonry, this drill tick's all the right boxes...Works very well as a power screw-driver ....and comes with some screw-driving bits. Jack of all trades tool.Yes it comes with instructions however, you simply will not need them, just charge batteries for about 2-5 hours, and fully discharge beforerecharging again. (only for the 1st 2 weeks). The drill is nice a light with a superb grip, in the similar league as Dewalt drills, only they cost £200-£300That was a very big sweeping statement, however I can assure you that the only difference is not power, but the Dewalt Drill batteries chargeVERY FAST. And are a little better quality... (However think about what Amazon UK give you for you money).A nice case, 2x 18v Batteries;off course the drill it-self with hammer action, rubber grip, and slow-fast throttle, electric brake - Plus perfect for getting todifficult areas. all in all a superb buy. I highly recommend 5 stars.! @ a 5 Star Price, only found on Amazon UK at this current price. All for under a meagre fifty-five pounds. The wonders of mass production, add to your basket. The excellent thing often overlooked, is the fact you have a spare battery, and whether you are a trades person or not, it will prove useful. Please, also, if you found my review helpful, please leave me a positive vote, as its much appreciated. thank-you... Dave.

Quality piece of kit - the 2 18V batteries are excellent, and make it that more versatile as a backup. Chuck is good - unlike many cordless types, although a quickchanger would be ideal if you cannibalize one from another drill. Only flaw is the reversible screwdriver heads are ridiculously tight on the side compartments of the drill, but I don't use them anyway as my normal heads. For the price of the drill you are getting build quality comparable to a Bosch of at least twice the price - bargain for all DIY enthusiasts.update -3 years on and the batteries have finally died after hundreds if charges. This drill helped renovate an entire house, so for the price it is great.Just purchased another so the 2 new batteries can be used in 2 drills simultaneously!Update 5 years on!!!Drill, motor and chuck still going strong but I have replaced the batteries as I bought the drill a 2nd time but considering it was used for a full house refurbished, and dozens of odd jobs every year, I've had my money's worth and will continue to!Update 8 years on!Still extremely happy with these drills - motor, chuck and everything still fine but my batteries don't hold a charge as well as they used to. However I do keep them in the shed over winter where it freezes so I can't complain if I don't take better care of them :)

Had this for a month or so now and been using it pretty much daily on an outbuilding project and so far it has performed very well indeed, for the price it's reasonably pokey, the battery lasts for around half a day if being used pretty regularly and having the second battery (takes just the one hour to charge), means the drill is never unavailable. The charger was not working properly when I got it, so I contacted Draper and they had a replacment out to me within a week, excellent service. On the minus side the chuck isn't huge (but in reality once you get up to big bit sizes you would probably need something with a load more welly anyway), it is a little on the heavy side and the drill bits it comes with are uniformly useless.Overall however you won't get a better performing 18 Volt drill (with two batteries), for the price. Highly recommended.Update: OK, over three years on and the two batteries are finally knackered (will work but not for long and don't hold a charge), but they have been in constant use for the whole time and I have dropped and clattered the drill numerous times and, up until last week (when I dropped it off a ladder and smashed the casing), it has performed excellently. I will definitley be buying another if I can, for the price it remains highly recommended

What else is a chap supposed to buy for his 30th birthday? A power tool or shotgun seems the obvious choice. Power tool it was .I'm not a big DIYer but have been very pleased with this purchase. It is true what the other reviewers say - the chuck does slip a bit but if you graunch it tight it stays put and does not seem to be too difficult to undo. Masonry and brick are no problem for this puppy where the hammer drill function gives good results. This was cheaper and according to most reviewers better than it's Bosch counterpart. It comes with an extra battery pack which is very useful but, just as with what the other reviewers say - I haven't had to change or re-charge the battery yet.Thedrill comes with a few of the most commonly used drill bits but I would advise purchasing one of the drill sets on here, I went for the Bosch (X75?) 75 piece set. Having the patience to buy from Amazon has saved me about £30 off the High Street price.Addendum 24 Jan 2011 - I re-iterate my comment about the drill bits above. The 'issue' screw-driver bits seem to be made of a softer metal than the Bosch one's I bought and are getting chewed up (even if I change for a fresh battery) whereas the Bosch ones bite screw heads well. Now about that shotgun...

Impressed with speedy despatch and delivery I eagerly inspected my purchase which came with a very useful plastic carry case together with 2 batteries (one at least was charged already),a drill set and other bits and pieces. Realising that in the macho world of power drills the Draper 18-Volt 2-Speed Cordless Hammer Drill was at the bottom end of the price spectrum, I was anxious to try it out to see if I had bought wisely or otherwise. No worries or regrets here, the drill supplies more than enough 'oomph' for me to knock off the jobs that I will be using it for, namely normal repair, maintenance, and minor construction/refurbishment jobs around the house, and garden. It coped admirably with all types of drilling work to reasonable widths and depths, whether it was wood, brick or masonry.I know I could have spent a lot more money and got one of the 'high end', all-singing-and-dancing machines favoured by the professionals but why waste money when your needs are fully catered for with something costing considerably less?I'm rather pleased with this purchase and perhaps a little smug at my common sense on this occasion.

Purchased from Amazon, the item came well boxed within the time specified.Plastic box is very useful, though I'm not sure it will last as long as the drill.I bought this Draper unit because it seemed to offer just a little more value for money than some better known names. The charger is fast and the batteries seem to last pretty well under my initial project which was quite demanding of juice. Everything fits neatly and the inclusion of spare drill bits in the case is extremely handy. The unit is moderately hefty which is reassuring as an 18volt drill must surely come in for the heavier jobs. It seems to be robust in construction and everything fits neatly. The controls are positive and without play/sloppiness.The hammer action works well and the torque settings are suitable to a wide range of needs. The only slight negative I have is that the chuck has slipped a couple of times, which at present I am putting down to my getting used to the machine. Over all I am delighted with my purchase.

This drill has everything you would need on a cordless drill apart from someone at the end of it doing the work for you. Hammer action, torque control, ( useful for driving screws,) two speeds and an electronic trigger control which allows you to control the speed while drilling or driving screws. It also has a reverse action. It comes with two battery's that charge in approx an hour to an hour and a half, a popular selection of HSS drill bits and a selection of screw driver bits all incorporated in a nice robust plastic case. The one small problem that I have with it is engaging the gearing when changing the speed ( a selector slide switch located at the top of drill )but I get around this by slowly turning the chuck by hand when making the selection. I do not know if this happens on mine alone or is a common fault. I live in a basement flat and the walls are rendered in sand and cement, this powerful little drill copes with it well without me having to get the heavy artillery out.

Have to say for the price this is a cracking drill it serves all my diy needs and comes with a extra battery , and with a charge time of aprox 1hour 20 mins ish on a completely flat batt is great and value for money... Its comes in a plastic moulded case and holds all the bits that it comes with.. The drill bits it comes with especially the screw bits are poor so do yourself a favour go buy a good quality strong long lasting drill bits set for your needs...Since using this draper drill for my personal DiY jobs its past with flying colours thus far... its quiet heavy for a cordless drill and as of yet ive not had the chuck slip on me when using it on the hammer setting. Its not a expensive drill and for my needs it works just fine, and with a hammer function which lets be honest u will need some day on a job im sure... So i would say if your in the market for a drill for your DiY jobs at home then i would say buy this drill and it wont cost the earth and it will serve u well ..

This drill is a perfect compliment to any D.I.Y person Male or Female. The drill is well balanced yet light weight. The chuck is simple and easy to use.Having two batteries is just perfect if you are doing jobs away from home, you just do not need to worry about running out of power. The drill is very powerful so you do not need to lean on it to push it through what ever you are drilling.Using the drill as a screw driver works very well with the adjustable torque settings.I have been using the drill for several months now and I cannot find any reason not to recommend it.If I had any concerns it would be the drill bits supplied, they are not up to much. I would advise getting good quality drill bits and leave the ones supplied in the box.The screw driver bits are fine.If this drill ever failed in any way I would not hesitate to purchase another one of the same model. In my opinion this is very good value for money and does what it says on the tin with ease.

I am very happy with this drill. I use it for occasional jobs around the house and i never had to switch to the corded drill. Sometimes i do prefer to use the corded drill when doing some heavy work on concrete but only because the higher RPM allows me to get the job done faster. Still, this cordless drill always gets the job done even on concrete walls and most of the time i don't have access to an outlet, so i have to rely on batteries.I don't like Ni-CD batteries but so far i haven't had a problem with this cordless drill. Sure, i have to be extra cautious not to let the batteries overcharge or store the batteries for too long without charging or even charge them before they are almost fully uncharged so they don't get addicted. This is definitely not very convenient but not the end of the world either.Included bits are kind of garbage, which is expected, but you can buy an inexpensive bit kit with some quality bits like these:

I did a fair bit of research before ordering this item. The reviews suggested that it was as good as drills double the price, was light and the Bty's held their charge but ran down quite quickly on heavier jobs. Firstly, the drill seems well made, pretty light and well packaged. The bty charger is simple to use and charged in 1hr. The manual states it takes betwen 8-10 charges for the bty to be up to optimum performance so I cant comment on how long the btys hold their charge and have not done anything too taxing with it yet. I used the 5 and 6 mm masonry drill bits on a couple of jobs and it works fine. like allot of keyless chucks there is a certain amount of slippage on the drill bit until you get used to how tight to twist the chuck but it worked fine. The drill seems well balanced and comfortable to hold. all in all it seems to be a really good buy and I would definately reccomend it.

I had one of those 24v cordless drill that lasted for over 5 years until one of the batteries started losing charge. Over the years it's price went over the roof so I didn't replace it with a similar one and went for this Draper 18v.. I must say, this one feels strong and powerful, I mean it has more torque than the 24v. I can not comment on the battery life yet, but it is pretty good so far. I read somewhere that the Ni-CD battery is a lot better than the new li-lon simply because they can set on the shelf for weeks and months without being used and still have their charge once you use them and based on this I preferred this drill over better makes with the new Li-lon batteries. Also dont be fooled by the saving they say you could make, its RPP is £50ish, shop around you will see but I prefer to buy from Amazon due to the good customer service they have.

I have had this drill for 2.5 years now. Its been used extensively in this time - built a small timber frame garden building, completely renovated a house to brick and back, installed my sisters kitchen, plus a load more. It has been used at least once a week since I have owned it, often intensively, with hammer for brickwork, driving large screws. Build quality is solid.Lasted and performed better than expected. The chuck has got a bit firm and batteries are fading now but that's probably to be expected considering the price. The pro drills may be better but diminishing returns, this is 85% for about 30% of the price. For average DIY stuff it's decent enough for £50 and can actually cope pretty well with more abuse. You will need some proper bits to go with it, the ones included are worthless.

Having read previous reviews regarding this drill I was more than happy to order one for myself. With the usual Amazon efficiency, the drill arrived within three days of ordering. The drill is, considering its size, medium weight and is easy to use. The 18 volt battery gives it that extra umph when required and like other commentators have stated, the battery charge lasts a long time. The drill comes in a carrying case, battery charger and a spare battery plus some drills and screwdriver bits. This is value for money. Someone mentioned that the bit in the chuck can get loose. Hasn't happened to me yet, but from what I recal this chap was drilling into either a brick or stone wall.Need an all round screw-driver; two speed cordless 18v hammer drill? The Draper 40765 is the one for you.

This is my second of these drills, my first was lent out, abused & died! This drill will not win any design awards, but it works really well, plenty of torque on low speed when using as a screwdriver (variable torque & speed, very handy). The hammer action is pretty good. This is an excellent DIY tool, not for daily on site work, but for the home is ideal. You get 2 batteries, they last pretty well & the charger does the job in about an hour. Light turns to green when charged, so it does not overcharge & barbeque the batteries. The quick release chuck is OK. The carry case has enough room for essential drill bits. All in all I like this drill, really handy for outside, would happily recommend. Was delivered very quickly, many thanks!
