Wasn't sure about this, it is brushless but has been around longer than many competitor's equivalents. I needn't have worried at all though; it is a great drill, quieter and more comfortable than my DeWalt equivalent had been, and just as capable if not more.It is reasonably heavy, but not ridiculously so (I wouldn't choose it for small stuff like flat-pack screws), but it is also solid and chunky as a result. The chuck is metal, good quality and true-running, the gears are also metal. The side handle is a work or art, though its unusually long length may be awkward to fit in some places. All in all, I expect it to last me for years.

As a professional I use this drill most days and it is the mutts nuts! I got this to replace an older Makita drill (top of the range at the time) that some toe ragg pinched off my van! I was looking at replacing it anyway! Glad I went for top of the range again as it is even better than the drill it replaces! If you're only using for DIY then probably not worth it, but if you're going to use it everyday then certainly worth the money! Battery goes on forever and the drill certainly packs a punch!

Used Baterry drills ect for 35 years as a Electrician , and settled on Makita about 10 years ago. This Drill is very well made and Very powerfull. Not much need for mains if you have this drill.Obviously if you need to core a 6" hole or drill Concrete you will still need the correct tool for the job.It is heavy though , so if you need a lighter drill for drilling plugs and screws or wood bits up to an inch , you may be better of with the excellent DHP484. ( still my favorite battery drill )

This is a great drill bundle.Unlike many cordless drills, this one has plenty of torque, a metal chuck and two speeds. It comes with two 5Ah battery packs and charger. A 5Ah battery pack charges in 45 minutes.I'm not a fan of the MakPac cases, but at least you get the correct insert with this bundle. With this insert, you can just get a third 5Ah battery pack in.The drill is made in Romania. The build quality is good and you get a three year warranty when bought from Amazon.

I visited my local tool store and enquired why they were so light on Makita cordless tools despite being a Makita stockist. The owner informed me that there was no point stocking Makita cordless as you can purchase it significantly cheaper on the internet and advised me to check. I went to my local screwfix and considered this drill (bare) at £200. I then found this exact same drill online for £150 and made a 25% saving!

Have used Makita cordless 18v drills for years now my last one a brushless typeDHP459RFE and they are brilliant for everyday stuffbut every now and then you want more beef (drilling out door frames and joists ,that sort of thing)This new Makita DHP481 goes through like butter thats why you get a handle to hold on to or you would be spinning as wellGreat bit of kit

I bought this item to replace a DIY version of Makita Drill; the previous one burnt out drilling a 13 mm hole in a tree stump. This drill is an whole magnitude better, build quality, ruggedness and quality chuck. Designed for professional use, its brushless motor makes short work of demanding tasks. Definitely worth spending the extra money.

I bought this drill from uk planet tools Ltd. There service was superb! I initially had a fault with the battery which they sorted out immediately. The drill is just what I wanted. Easy to use and powerful and it feels so solid. Makita seem to make there tools that are very well build and easy to operate.

I have used several other makes of battery drill and this model is in a different league. Always plenty of power and very smooth speed control. Its hardest test was drilling 1 inch holes into 50 year old concrete which used up two battery charges but the drill hardly warm

Strong, well built. You can feel the quality. Battery power indicator is a useful bonus, ensures you keep spare batteries on charge before the one your using goes flat. Adjustable handle is a bit excessive which I don't use anyway so not a criticism.

This is my 3rd Makita drill over 12 years. The others have lasted extremely well bearing in mind their constant use. This new one is considerably more powerful and with 4ah batteries lasts all day.Not noticeably heavier than previous ones

This is a very powerful, useful combi drill. It's quite heavy but you have to expect that from this level of quality.I'm very happy with this drill and expect it to last for a long time in the construction environment.

Great piece of kit - my last one died the day before this arrived but it had served me well for 20 years (and its only the charger that has gone!) I hope this gives the same service- so far I am very pleased.

I've been using Makita 18v for about ten years now. I only bought this because I burned out my old drill. This one has got so much torque it will break your wrist if you're not careful. Excellent bit of kit.

This is makita’s flagship combi still and it really does feel like it. unrivalled brushless power, top quality build, easy to select functions and a battery indicator. Would highly recommend.
