I did sooooo much research before finally settling on this machine. Our old delonghi magnifica died on us a month ago. I've been searching so long for a good reasonably priced replacement that I landed up buying a Dualit milk frother in the meantime so at least I could have my tea based latte fixes! As an aside that milk frother is astonishingly good! The Dedica makes delicious coffee! With a good crema and deep rich taste, all in a couple of minutes. I still use the Dualit as opposed to the steam wand as I am just so impressed with it and it means that coffee and milk are ready together. I am not sure whether you could do latte art like that though as the froth comes out so thick. You may have to google that if you're interested in that route. I don't love the look of the Dedica but that's a matter of personal taste. It has a lovely small footprint so it's tucked in a corner anyway and more than makes up for it with function. I would have bought something like a gaggia for looks but they just aren't that well reviewed unless you go further up the product range. Anyway, if you want a d*** fine coffee on a reasonable budget, and you don't need to do the milk instantly just get this machine, you don't need the Dualit. If you want speed and convenience get both! We use ground coffee (signature rave blend at the moment) but you can also use ESE pods. Pretty close to perfect for us.

What a fantastic espresso machine! I absolutely love it. I did read a lot of positive reviews here on amazon which is why I decided to buy it. However, I was just a little sceptical about the 'genuineness' of the reviews because they did seem too good to be true. Wrong I was! Now I can understand why this product has so many great reviews. The espresso it produces is perfect every time, with the most lovely crema. There are some instructions by Matt van Andel on amazon.com about preping the machine before each use (essentially this entails running hot water through the steam wand and filter). If you follow those and use good coffee, I'll bet you can get great results too. I use preground coffee,Lavazza or Illy, but do make sure that is it fresh. Of course your espresso will be even better if you grind the coffee just before using it.The steam wand works well and nicely froths up milk. Cleaning it is also really easy - a must after each use so that bacteria do not get a chance to start breeding. The best part - super sleek minimalistic design which takes up only 6 inches of your counter space! And the price point is pretty affordable too.The only con - I wish they had some kind of a handle to move the machine around, as sometime the water tank gets dislodged when you try to move it. Its not a big problem really, just a nice-to-have feature.(Did not buy from Amazon)

This machine is superbly designed, produces coffee-shop-quality coffee and takes up minimal space on the counter top. I prefer to drink my coffee as latte but I can see that the coffee itself has an excellent crema as it's produced. The only problem I've had is with frothing milk: there was too much of the large bubbled foam on top. Even when I followed youtube videos for guidance on how to foam milk - including using full fat milk instead of semi-skimmed milk - I had the same result. I then suspected that the metal sleeve in place on the steam wand was preventing the milk circulating properly in the jug as demonstrated in the videos. The metal sleeve seems to be there to introduce bubbles however deeply or shallowly you insert the wand into the milk but it seems to prevent the milk from swirling in the jug as it should to produce a fine foam. I therefore tried foaming the milk without the metal sleeve on the steam nozzle and hey presto, instant steaming sound, exactly like in a coffee shop, rapidly swirling milk in jug, easy to control addition of bubbles as required and perfect micro foam that lasts to the last drop of coffee. The much improved steamed milk has enhanced my appreciation of the quality coffee that this machine produces and I would say it is fully up to coffee shop standards. Enjoy.

Ok say let me start by saying that there are a lot of innaccurate reviews on here. This is not an automatic machine and it takes some practice to get a great tasting coffee. I use Illy decaff and I found that to make a lovely cappucino I have to use the 2 cup container to make a decent coffee but thats decaff for you. I bought a decent heavy metal tamper and find that my coffee improved when I made sure the coffee went right to the edges of the basket with no gaps and I tampered not too hard but not too light. Lastly after reading some tips on the internet I turned the water temp to high and it got the best results. I also bought a Krups burr grinder which is really good.So theres a lot of factors you need to bear in mind to make a good coffee with this machine. But after 5 days of trying different settings I can now make a cup cappucino as good as in a coffee shop. The milk frother is great by the way and you can get tips on the internet how to get better at it. So if you want you put a little bit of effort in you can make fantastic coffees with this machine. It will take more effort than a pod machine or an automatic delonghi but the coffee is better. I love mine and was suprised at how good it is. Oh and buy a thermometer to get the milk froth to 60 c its always perfect at that temp.

Was wary of buying another De'Longhi machine after two previous ones leaked copiously but they do seem to have cornered the market in this price range so after reading mostly favourable reviews I chose the Dedica and have been very pleased with it. It is a little more complicated but once you get the hang of it you can make an ordinary sized coffee cup by selecting a 2-shot and then a 1 shot. I tried some pods but found they were so densely packed that the water dripped through very slowly. The machine is much quieter than my old one and doesn't drip at all. The only negative point so far is that every so often and for no apparent reason it is impossible to engage the coffee holder into its slot on the machine. This is frustrating because I don't know what if anything I am doing differently on those occasions. Eventually it will suddenly slip into place as normal. It is slightly more difficult to see the water level in the tank - I have to turn the machine round a bit to check if it needs topping up. All in all a good machine that can cope with making 2 or 3 coffees one after the other. I don't tend to use the milk frother - I heat a little amount of milk in the microwave for myself but I have used it and found it works fine and isn't too difficult to clean.

Pros: very nicely made, very slim footprint. Makes excellent coffee with a good Crema very quickly, Heats up in about 30-40 secs Coffee is a good temperature if you set the machine to its highest, 90-95 degrees and if you pass a shot of water through it into the cups first before you put the coffee in the filter basket. Produces loads of steam and makes really hot frothy milk once you get used to it.Its a single boiler machine so you have to wait a few secs to let the temperature of the boiler go down if you want to make another coffee, best thing is pour your coffees first then heat the milk if you want a couple of cappuccino's.I would say this machine is suitable for making a couple of cups of coffee at a time, but if you want to make half a dozen cups for your dinner guests get a filter machine.Best price currently is John Lewis and comes with their standard 2 year warranty included!Cons: Filter basket could do with being a bit bigger to hold more coffee if you like your large Cappuccino quite strong. The steam wand is a little short so you need to choose your jug to suit. All in its a quick, good quality machine that makes a very good Espresso or Cappuccino at a nice hot temperature quickly and easily.

I bought this as I wanted to have the option of using ground coffee or a quick alternative which in this case means using ESE pods. The machine works well with both methods. I was a little disappointed with the plastic spoon/tamper that came with it but it worked wellenough. I have however, now bought stainless steel versions of both these items. The machine looks fantastic and fits really well into my small kitchen area. It is well made and everything feels 'quality'. I really like the facility of being able to program the machine for various functions and this is really easy and quick to do. Hopefully, having programmed it for the 'soft'water in my area this will prolong the time before descaling is needed. The alternative I had when buying this machine was the Nespresso Pixie, but I decided that this was a 'one trick pony' and did not offer alternatives to the capsules. I definitely made the right choice. The milk frother is absolutely foolproof and has worked every time I've used it for cappuccinos which have been very smooth.I fully recommend this machine for anyone with limited space, an eye for good functional design and who likes coffee!

I bought this because I do not have much worktop space, I thought I only wanted to make espresso, and I was concerned that the more complicated machine I purchased the more there was to go wrong, also I did not want a machine that would be left with beans or grounds in it so that you are always getting old coffee, or one that required substantial cleaning. The only thing I misjudged is that now I have made myself a couple of soya lattes on this machine I have ended up buying various jugs, thermometers etc., which are all taking up worktop space. The combined spoon / tamper is functional but unimpressive so I also spent more money on fancy replacements because they look nicer (and take up morespace on the worktop).I do not leave water in the reservoir between uses and I put through an empty double shot before and after each time I am making coffees, this may be over cautious but I feel I am getting consistently good results from the machine with this little regime. So now I have spent the money I am walking the fine line between using it enough to feel like the expenditure was worth it, and being permanently wired.

I got one of these for myself, and another for my Dad, and we frequently discuss how much improved our coffee situations are now - always with great enthusiasm for the machine and the coffee it produces. I wake up every morning looking forward to coffee from the machine, I wish I had bought one earlier. The only thing that isn't good is that the hot water it is supposed to produce (for Americanos and such) squirts out with such ferocity that it is impractical to position a cup under it, for no sooner has the water entered the cup but it is on it's way out again (along with anything else in the cup) from where it flies up into the air and decorates the wall. This is not useful for making tea and Americanos then are to be made with the addition of hot water from a kettle - a minor inconvenience, but I had imagined I would be able to put the kettle away and save some of my counter space, already festooned with toaster, steamer, bread-maker, etc. Unfortunately the kettle must remain, but nothing so trivial can detract from the pleasure of the wonderful coffee this machine produces.

OK I quite like to use something before I leave feedback....now we've been using this machine for a couple of days....and i absolutely love it....before this machine i had a Jackstone house and that was utter rubbish as it leaks and makes awful coffee.....what a difference this machine does.....it makes great coffee and gives you the opportunity to also use either ground coffee or pods....i have ready reviews here and also on Amazon Italy and the reviews are mixed, however when you read and see that so many Italians give this good praise i decided to get this, and so far i have no regrets, as it is easy to work out, can make different settings for how hot you want your steam/coffee,so yeah great wee gadget! The only thing for me was that the descaler was burst, however Amazon were very helpful and did help out with their customer service....these things happen, hence why its still gets full marks for me as i can't really fault the machine

I don't often write reviews, but this machine exceeded all my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anybody curious about the world of espresso machines. As a complete novice, I've found it easy to use and maintain, delivering perfect coffee daily.Having unboxed it, I eventually worked out what needed to be done before first use. Once complete, I made my first cappuccino and it was great. Very simple to use, minimal cleaning (easier than a Tassimo in my opinion) and it makes superb coffee (and hot chocolate for the fiancé) every time. Would recommend purchasing a stainless steel milk frothing jug (I have a 330ml Andrew James one, this is just the right depth for the steam spout to reach to the bottom)and despite some comments about the tamper, I've had no problems with the plastic one provided, I am by no means a Barista, but it seems to work just fine for the occasional user.

After much debating whether to get a capsule machine or one like this using fresh ground coffee I eventually decided on this one. It arrived this morning and was very quick and easy to set up and change all the settings. I followed the advice of others and took the metal sleeve off the steam wand and the quality of the milk was much better than when I tried it with the sleeve on (far too many big bubbles). I am barista trained and am really impressed with this machine and the power it has. The only annoyance was when the steam wand switched off after 60 seconds to prevent continual use but no problem, i just switched the steamer off and on again and carried on.So far this machine seems to be brilliant!EDIT: after using this machine daily for almost 3 months the steam wand has only turned off whilst in use once more for me. Still thrilled with this purchase and the coffee it produces.

I already have one of these and only bought this because it was on a one day offer, which made it very good value. This machine will make you coffee as you'd buy it from Costa, & it's almost foolproof, but, and this is why it only gets four stars, just sometimes the steam button malfunctions. As this happens on my original machine I conclude it is an inbuilt fault. If it happens just ignore it and continue as normal....works for me.Another tip is to experiment with your coffee grind, too fine and you'll get little coffee, too coarse and it will be light on flavour.Besides making great coffee time and time again, apart from making coffee almost automatically, you only have to froth/heat the milk,it even tells you when it needs cleaning.I can thoroughly recommend this machine.

Very pleased with it. Good coffee and milk froth, quick warm up. It is in frequent use.Compact size and ability to top-up the water without having to remove the reservoir is handy. I don't use the cup warmer.Depending on what you have used before it may feel light to hold. I also had some difficult with placing the filter holder on the machine at first but this soon loosed up for an easy fit after a few uses. Don't over compact the coffee and it will flow freely. If you live in a hard water area I suggest you try the Delonghi 5513292811 Water Filter which fits inside the water reservoir, our de-scale light came on only after a couple of weeks of frequent use, this seems to be helping so far.

This is a good little espresso machine. Was a little cautious when buying based on some of the negative feedback, but 2 weeks in I'm more than happy with it. I've dropped a star as the milk wand is too short, you can only really use a small cup or jug to do the milk, anything along the size of a 500ml Pyrex jug is too big. Also the position of the buttons means attaching the coffee holder (don't know correct name) needs to be done with care as you may automatically start the machine. With regards to the coffee; I find a medium grind firmly tamped gives a good espresso with a nice thick crema. The ability to set each of the buttons to a different cup size is a handy feature.
