Although this is my first review of the Krups Nespresso Vertuo, this is day 3 of using the machine so I’ll cover up my experiences so far.Friday 3rd November: Parcel delivered to my pick location. I pick up the parcel and get it home. Although I’m very excited, I do not get the chance to unpack it yet.Saturday 4th November: We take the children out all day, and I just about have enough time to unpack the box. It all looks very shiny. No time to set it up though today! What was in the Krups Nespresso Vertuo product box? When unboxing the coffee maker itself, the box contents was about a simple as it could be, this is a real bonus as it’s as close to ‘plug and play’ as it can be.The box contains: The main machine itself, a water container, the drip tray, a selection box of 16 different coffees and all the usual documents you’d expect with a product like this. There’s a lot of expanded polystyrene, though, so you may have to pick bits off of the machine. It’s a very neat and well protected package with a nice box opening reveal, but all the expanded resources sits a little uncomfortably these days as it’s hard to recycle. This is still a very industry wide practice, though, so this problem is not just specific to this product.Sunday 5th November: Finally set the machine up at breakfast time. It’s fairly easy to do as you just need to remove the protective wrapping from the water container, wash it out and run a cleaning cycle on the coffee machine. When running the cleaning cycle, place a big jug underneath it as it will run a lot of water through. A cup will not suffice!OK, the machine is ready. Time to make my first coffee! The capsule mechanism is motorised, so all you have to do is tap up on the silver bar and the machine will open the top for you. If a capsule was already in the machine, it will slip into the back where a capsule bin collects the used capsules. Place the capsule in the holder, and press down on the same bar. The machine will now close and pierce the capsule ready to express the coffee. Each capsule has a barcode around the rim, which tells the machine what it needs to do to the capsule. Primarily this seems to inform the machine of the amount of water to push through the capsule to make the various size drinks. There are 4 drink sizes, Nespresso inform us, that cover 2 short espresso sizes and 2 longer americano style drinks. The capsules decide what size they are, and this is not user selectable. To start the machine, you just need to press the button on the top once, and it will get going making your coffee. If you’ve just turned the machine on, it will take 30 seconds or so to warm up before it starts to make the drink. If this is the case, you just need to wait a short time and re-press the button to start. There didn’t seem to be an indicator to say when it’s ready, however. There was no replaceable water filter on the water container, which means that the water is not being carbon filtered. This may increase the slight variations in taste of the coffee depending on the mineral and additive profile of your local water.Sunday 5th November. The coffee’s I drank on day 1:Caramelizio – This didn’t taste strongly of caramel, but it was very pleasant. It left me with that relaxed comfortable morning coffee feeling, though, which was nice.Stormio – Cup 2 of the morning! This was one of the strongest, but it wasn’t harsh and gritty like some strong coffees can be. It was smooth and strongly flavoured. This could be a great after meal coffee, so I’ll try it again after lunch or dinner one day.Melozio – OK, cup 3 of the morning. I’ve got a little too excited and had too many cups, and now I’m losing the subtlety of the drink as I’ve ‘over coffeed’ myself. It was pleasant though.Monday 6th November, day 2 coffee:Today I tried the Hazelino. Wow, this is hazelnutty! I used 2 coffee pods for a really big drink, and it was very nice. The coffee is lost a bit to the strength of hazelnut, but if you like that flavour it (I did) then it will be a pleasure.Tuesday 7th November, day 3 coffee:Solelio – A much milder and gentler start to the day today. This was a good breakfast coffee, as it eases you into the day. Just one pod for me this time though!

I have been lucky enough to be given this product to try. This is an unbiased review of the product.Firstly, I have been a Nespresso customer since 2008, so I am aware of their product line and the quality of their offering, which in my opinion is second to none. Before I received this new machine, I had a U+Milk Nespresso machine - I thought things couldn't get better than that. I am a heavy coffee drinker and I know what I like in my coffee and my old machine was just amazing. However when I received the machine, I knew this was going to be a good product from Nespresso. the packaging is sleek and it comes with a good selection of Coffees. The machine is larger than my old machine, but they have not compromised on the style of the machine... it is still sexy looking - if it is possible for a coffee machine to look sexy - and it takes pride of place on my kitchen counter. The coffee pods are larger than the Nespresso classic pods and have a barcode on them, so the machine knows just how much water to run through the pod to make a full mug of coffee. This is also adjustable, so you can tailor the amount of water by capsule size and the machine remembers your settings. As someone who always added hot water to espresso to get a full mug of coffee, this is just amazing - one button and you get a whole mug of gorgeous coffee with no hassle. The machine is fully automated even to the point of the top of the machine opening for you to insert a capsule - is this a risk with too many moving parts? only time will tell. The water talk is huge, but when you are making mugs of coffee, that is well needed. Now to the coffee.... yes they are right.... you get a lot of Crema from the coffee pods, the most I have ever seen. But that isn't the be all and end all... the coffee is actually very nice, no bitterness from any of the selection included with the machine and generally smooth. I am sure there will be a pod for everyone that will be their favourite. The temperature of the coffee is also very good - probably one of the best compared to others on the market. So I guess you are wondering why I have only given 4 stars - well that is simple... the price of the coffee pods. Nespresso classic pods are around 37p each and you can also get them cheaper elsewhere. As these pods are new, there is no other suppliers for them other than Nespresso and they are charging between 50p and 60p per pod..... £5 for 10 coffees or £3.70 for ten coffees.... I like to buy my pods in bulk, so this is going to be very expensive. I hope the cost of the pods come down over time as this will improve my rating to the full 5 stars. If you like a good mug of coffee with a machine that is stylish and easy to use, this is the one for you... just be ready for the price shock when you order new pods :)

Having been the proud owner of a Nespresso Inisia for the past 6 months, I was really interested to try the new VertuoPlus. I have become very dependent on my coffee from the first of the day to the last after dinner, and found my Inisia absolutely fantastic, but WOW the VertuoPlus is so much better. Firstly when I unpacked the machine, the quality feel of the main body was very apparent, the styling and finish of the capsule release mechanism and the Coffee button are first class. Add to this the significantly larger water storage ( a very respectable 1.7 litres) with the facility of positioning it to either side or to the back of the main unit. The added facility of an adjustable cup support, giving support to 4 different sizes of cup is great, ensuring no spillages and use of larger insulated coffee cups. The capsule open and close lever is really light and sensitive ensuring the head of the machine opens with a feather lite touch requiring no effort to open and close the capsule head. Once set up and put through the initialising cleaning programme, I set about making my first coffee. I chose a Stormio mug sized capsule from the selection pack of 12 provided with the machine, I placed the capsule into the holder, touched the open/close lever and the machine whirred into action. Within 5 seconds the machine started its capsule identification process reading the barcode on the capsule to tell the machine the size and intensity of the required brew and then started to spin into brewing action. The noise was quite low and not too overbearing. The aroma of the brew hit starlight away filling the air with amazing odours of fresh coffee shop which was brilliant. Then as the brew came to completion, the crema was around 2 cm deep and the rich dark coffee underneath started to settle in the mug. I added milk from my heater and set for my first taste of VertuoPlus coffee - an absolute delight. This brew in comparison to the Inisia brew was a lot richer, more depth of flavour and surprisingly significantly hotter. I have tried most of the coffee sample capsules, and have found that there is a very wide range of sizes, intensities and strengths. Ranging from Alto at 414 ml, Mug at 230ml, Gran Lungo at 150ml and Espresso at 40ml, all determined by the capsules barcode providing a one touch brewing operation. My favourite Coffe up to now is Fortado which is a strong Gran Lungo. All in all I am very impressed with my new machine and look forward to great coffee, a must for coffee lovers.

I was a bit apprehensive about this campaign from the start. We already had a coffee pod machine at home which I was perfectly happy with. But, this machine has now taken its place on the kitchen counter. It looks sleek and really makes a statement. You can't help but notice it when people visit. The initial set up was so simple, just fill the hopper and pick your pod. I was delighted that I could swivel the hopper to the side which suited, being a lefty this made my day!The Nespresso mugs are a nice touch as I was concerned as to how much water would be needed for the larger drinks. While it's easy to stop the flow it does seem to take a bit longer to slow down and stop. The barcode technology used is just amazing. Knowing that the pod you've put in won't overflow a cup is reassuring.Brewing up a Stormio: I am hooked on the Stormio pods. They're by far my favourite so far. The crema is thick and delicious and stays right down to the last mouthful. The sample pods included in the box are a really nice touch but perhaps more of the "flavoured" variety would have been nice.Flavours: I'll be honest, I'm not much of a fan of flavoured coffee but thought I would have liked the caramel pod. I've always liked the caramel machioto my previous machine could make. I didn't like the Nespresso one. The caramel was just too subtle. Most people I offered this to thought the same. They either wanted a sugar in it or a shot of caramel syrup to complete the hit.I found the hazelnut to the same. They smell lovely but just don't deliver on the taste for me. We had 10 adults together last Saturday, everyone noticed the coffee machine and all the pods and were instantly intrigued and of course opted for a coffee. Those who had a regular coffee with or without milk thought the coffee was lovely and finished their drinks. Those who took either the caramel or hazelnut tended to drink about half of it and politely decline the rest. While the design of the machine is excellent and it feels sturdy and well put together I do find it difficult to get the waste container removed from the back. Perhaps I'm just being over cautious and over time it'll become much easier. I would have liked to have found (at least) one of the pod recycle bags in the box. From my short time with the machine I can say it's certainly better than my previous pod appliance and makes a much better cup of coffee. Does the initial outlay and the ongoing price of pods justify it? I don't know yet.

A review from someone who actually forked out the money and bought one!Firstly, I love the Nespresso ethos of small farmer and fairly grown and traded products. The coffee has always been excellent and the machines well built. Some folks say the coffee is too expensive, the new Vertuo capsules range from 39p to 60p each. OK, if you buy a bag of coffee and use a cafetiere it is more expensive, but if you are going to a coffee shop it's cheap. If, like me, you end up using 2 or 3 original capsules to get a full mug of coffee, it's cheaper. The quality and variety are excellent and you get a £45 credit with Nespresso for coffee or accessories.I bought the Vertuo Plus machine, not my first Nespresso machine, and it couldn't be simpler. I don't understand the people that say it's too complicated. Touch the top to turn it on. Touch the bar at the front to open the machine, pop the capsule in, touch the bar again to close, push the button at the top for coffee. It even auto shuts off after about 8 minutes. The water tank is on a hinge so you can put it where it works best for you on the countertop. It is very quiet compared to other Nespresso machines I have had. It is very fast and the coffee is perfectly hot for me, but I have been using double walled cups for years to keep coffee hot. The Vertuo line was designed for the US market, where people drink bigger cups and mugs. So the cup sizes here are larger. 40ml for expresso, 150ml for Grand lungo, 230ml for mug, 414ml for one called Alto which is even bigger! These are for black coffee, not including the crema top, so if you then add milk you have to get a larger mug. The crema top is larger than the original and I find the bitterness in the coffee is in that crema. I spoon a bit of it off and the coffee itself is lovely, smooth and creamy. There are currently 20 varieties of coffee available, but I am sure this will increase as did the original range. So, for me, I love it. It's simple, the coffee is terrific, the growers programme is a winner, the build is good, and finally I have a full mug of coffee! If you love lattes, you might want to look at the Latissima which is also great.

I have used the Lavazza coffee pod system and machine for the last year and have been perfectly happy with it, but the main issue I have is with the availability of the pods at a competitive price or a suitable alternative brand to use with the machine. Nespresso seems to be the most popular and widely available pod system and has the most alternative brand availability so with this in mind I ordered this machine. Imagine my surprise when I found that the 12 pods that came with the machine are not the same as the traditional Nespresso ones but are of an entirely new design that resembles a flying saucer with a barcode around the underneath of the rim. This apparently allows the machine to determine the correct amount of water and strength of the proposed coffee to make ie espresso, lungo or standard but it also serves as a cunning security measure from Nespresso that prevents other brands copying its new proprietary pod system and ensuring that they retain all the revenue from its use. Despite this I have seen several videos on Youtube on how to get around this security feature involving removing the barcode on an empty pod and attaching it to your self filled pre-used pod, far too labour intensive for me though, so it looks like Nespresso have got me locked down!First impressions are impressive with a real quality feel to the machine with its motorised pod receiver that's activated by a light touch of the front silver lip. The water container has a capacity of 1 litre and can be moved to the rear or either side of the machine which is a nice feature allowing the machine to be positioned wherever you wish on the worktop. Once used the pods are swallowed by the machine and stored internally in a separate waste bin. The coffee it produces is very good but not quite hot enough in my opinion for espressos. It is very quiet in operation which is always a bonus in the morning! My main issues is that it dispenses a fixed volume, whereas with my Lavazza espresso machine I can determine the length of the shot to my own taste and the current lack of pods available in the UK currently to allow regular use.

I just want to preface this by saying that I'm not a big fan of Nespresso. I bought a coffee machine years ago but wasn't impressed with the coffee. Thought it was expensive and bland and wasteful so I started grinding my own beans and brewing my own coffee. My stance softened a bit at work because we had a big industrial Nespresso unit and the coffee has gotten a lot better in recent years. So, knowing that this was a new machine with a new capsule type, I felt a little excited but also had a little trepidation. And I was really glad with the results. I've attached some videos showing the operationSo, first up - a roundup of the pros and cons.Pros:* Really beautiful coffee. Seriously,it stands toe-to-toe with my fresh-ground beans and I think it's better than the smaller pods* Wide variety of strengths and flavours (there are Hazelnut, Vanilla and Caramel pods)* 3 cup sizes, which are automatically detected - no wasted water or accidental misfilling* Adjustable cup-plate height to avoid splash back* Easy to set up and clean* Easy to fill the water unit* Easy to remove the used pods* Easy to place the pods and, unlike my work unit, no accidental missing of the pod* Very light-touch operation - gently press up to raise the lid, gently tap to bring lid down and puncture the next unit and press once for automatic coffee.* Quick heat up and pour* The coffee is still quite cheap - around 55p per large cup podCons:* Pods are quite large and difficult to stack - I have bought 180 pods from Nespresso since and got a free presentation box but it's huge* The crema gets oddly bubbly, almost like cappuccino froth - not really a big deal and doesn't affect flavour but found it odd* Because the unit is new, there's no real competition from third parties for pods yet, so you won't be able to get cheaper alternatives and I had to order extra pods from Nespresso itself

This machine uses Nespresso's new Vertuo range of pods. Vertuo pods are different in shape and this machine is not backwards compatible with existing Nespresso pods.Using Centrifusion technology, pods spin when brewing the coffee and each pod has a printed barcode that regulates how your coffee is made from the flow, water volume, temperature and capsule rotation speed. It’s all very intelligent and you’re guaranteed a lovely layer of crema. The machine itself looks good, runs very smoothly and is surprisingly quiet and operation & maintenance are straightforward. The water container stand can be rotated through a near 180 degrees to sit exactly where you want it.The pod opening is motorised and once you've sat your selected pod inside, just hit the start button and the intelligent technology reads the barcode and brews your Nespresso exactly as intended. Used pods are dispensed into the bin the next time you open it.There are 20 different flavoured pods in the Vertuo range spread over four different cups sizes - Espresso 40ml, Grand Lungo 150ml, Mug 230ml & Alto 414ml. The mug size is perfect and leaves enough space for milk.Overall this is a really impressive machine – just pop in your pod and press the button for a perfect coffee. I prefer the mug sized pods and it takes approximately one minute to brew. The Mug and Alto pods are expensive (60p each) but you get what you pay for. Given the barcode technology, it's unlikely that you’ll be able to buy el cheapo knock-off pods anytime soon, if ever. The machine arrives with a selection box of 16 different pods. Head over to the Nespresso website for details about ordering, recycling and individual descriptions of all the coffees available in the range.**I've added a couple of photos of it next to a tin of beans to give an indication of its size**

At the time of writing, September 17, it is not possible to buy the basin shaped capsules required. In the pack is a 'chocolate' box style present pack with a wide selection of 12 coffees, no two the same. We would want to choose our blend, in our case a milder kind, so until the day that we can order those, which I now hear is going to be October, the machine and I must wait. I contacted nespresso for more info but no reply so far. Updates/edits will follow. So, if you are planning to buy one of these sleek, and elegant machines, first ensure that the capsules are on sale, and you like the price.I have made cups of coffee with the machine and been most impressed. The liquid comes out piping hot with a lovely crema on top. The motorised head is efficient and effective. I am looking forward to the day I can purchase the capsules to my taste, but I am afraid too that they may be too costly for everyday. The machine has the ability to read the bar code of each capsule in order to mix it just right. It takes about five minutes to serve you. You can chose the size of cup, mug, jug you are using. Those who love gadgets will enjoy the extra bells and whistles. There are more accessories to buy, every size of cup and mug designed by Konstantin Grcic. The used capsules are ejected into a plastic pot at the back for recycling. The set up is simple although being the first of its kind I have used, it took me a moment to see how it works. The water tank has various positions to make it tidy and safe on your worktop. The power cable is too short, to my mind. Also in the book they keep referring to the power light being green, but it looks yellow to me!

When I seen the box of the NESPRESSO Vertuo I was already smitten, you just know that they’ve put a lot of thought into the production of this product. The machine is a little bigger then I would’ve thought but that’s not a problem for me. It has some clever functions, starting with reading the code on the pods and knowing what kind of pod it is and how much water to dispenses. I love how you just open and close the machine with a little touch which is quite futuristic. The automatic pod disposal on the back of the machine is great, doesn’t leave a mess at all. The pods are in different sizes so you always know straight away what kind of coffee your getting, helps when your still half asleep!I love the variety of different flavours and coffee strengths, a perfect coffee for everyone. I love the frothy top, the coffee’s look and taste like they are from a coffee shop in my opinion.Only negative I noticed is that at the moment you can only purchase the pods on the Nespresso webpage and they aren’t cheap. But it’s luxury coffee and my only luxury so it is well worth it.I’ve always wanted a pod coffee machine but I’m big on recycling but I’ve never come across a coffee pod machine with pods that offers that... until the NESPRESSO Vertuo came out. You can order recycling bags and schedule a collection which I haven’t done yet but it seems simple enough. Now that I’ve used the product for a bit I’m still in love with it, the coffee is just delicious! The machine is easy to operate and to clean. I can only recommend this product as we love it and can’t imagine a life without it anymore!

I've not had a Nespresso machine before, I'm not keen on an espresso so it's not seemed like something for me. However with the new Vertuo machines there is the option of different size coffees depending on the capsules you put in. This seems like a great idea and it is good that the machine comes with a tester set of different sizes to try. The great thing is that if you prefer a larger less strong drink you can alter the amount of water used and the machine will remember for next time, this means that my espressos are now a bit longer and mellower which suits me better. I do like the machine with it's motorised opening and closing, and the barcode reading to get the right sized drink works well. It's great that the used capsules are stored in the section at the back which is easily removed when necessary. It does take up quite a lot of space but you can adjust the position of the water tank which helps. I'm not used to frothy coffees as I usually use a filter machine but I like it and it works particularly well if you put the milk in first! To really appreciate your coffee I recommend glass mugs to see the beauty of the drink, currently there are 2 free ones available when you buy a welcome pack of 120 capsules on the Nespresso website. I will probably not be using this every day as the capsules aren't very cheap and can only be obtained from the Nespresso website or stores, but it does make a lovely coffee so I will be using this for treats or when I really need a boost!

I used to have a Tassimo pod coffee machine which I very quickly grew to hate. It's design looked great out of the box but quickly became restrictive in terms of which cups/mugs I could use, it got dirty and was hard to clean and the coffee just tasted like somebody put too much instant coffee in a pod. I mention all this because this Nespresso machine from Krupps is leaps and bounds better. The water holder for starters is separate from the main body, making it easier to clean and you can decide whether to mount it at the side or back of the machine depending on what sort of work top space you have. The main body of the machine looks great and its functions are easy to use.At the time of writing this review the pods for this machine aren't available to buy so I don't know how much they will cost. This is rather crucial because they come with a barcode to tell the machine what they are and therefore how much water to send through and at what pressure. That barcode is a security measure too of course and it will be interesting to see whether third party pod makers adapt. Until then I have made my way through the 12 pods supplied with the machine, a variety of styles and lengths, and my god they taste better than that Tassimo machine. I've always been a bit of a coffee purist, preferring my stove top coffee pot to any of these pod machines but this one might just change my mind. We'll see what happens once the accompanying pod are released for sale.

Wanted a nespresso machine for a long time but I didn’t like the fact it only did smaller cups of coffee so thought this was perfect. And besides amazon’s inability to deliver the correct colour (ordered shiny black, they delivered dull grey and I absolutely loathe grey appliances) this is as suspected, perfect. Is quite a hefty size and takes up a lot more space than my previous little dolce gusto machine but it’s worth every millimetre of extra space required. Produces lovely hot strong coffee, has a large enough capacity waste bin and an excellent water capacity. The coffee is simple enough to order online from their site although you do have to order 50 capsules at a time. The selection box you get with this machine gives a nice taster, but they are all fairly strong so I’ve struggled to find a coffee that agrees with me but that’s my personal tastes. There are a lot of choices in capsules however so I’m sure with a little trial and error I can find one that suits me. But if you like real coffee then splash out on one of these babies, you won’t regret it.

This is the first coffee machine that I have tried and I have been wanting to try one for a while. If you are more into cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolates and that kind of thing then this machine probably isn't for you. But if you are into decent normal black coffee and like to have a variety of subtly flavoured and different strengths to choose from then you will probably love this machine. I have to say that all the pods I have tried so far have been very strong, regardless of what strength rating was on the packet! I have been heating up a decent amount of milk in the microwave and adding it at the end which works well and improves the coffee (for me anyway!).The machine itself is a high quality one and you can tell its on the higher end of the cost scale. It is so easy to use and also enjoyable to use and watch the creamy coffee being poured. Its a machine for the coffee elite! I think I would rather have one that did cappuccinos and the like.

Having had a standard Nespresso machine for several years I decided to go for this one when it was on offer as the vertuo capsules make full size cups of coffee. Now, the pods for these are a fair bit dearer than the standard nespresso capsules and seems they're only available through nespresso since they're barcode functioning.But... oh my word, what a difference. The machine is very easy to use, can make HUGE cups of coffee (as well as lungo and espresso) and after 3 weeks of use I'm very impressed. In fact, the largest cup size is actually too much for a large coffee cup - you need an oversized mug!Stormio and Intenzo are both excellent as is the master origin Mexico. The Alto Intenso produces a massive cup but I've found it's superb if you finish it brewing at mug size.Very pleased with the machine - hope it lasts!
