I bought this for my Canon EF100mm f2.8 Macro USM and so far it is perfect. It has saved me a small fortune, when my fully extended tripod toppled over forwards whilst shooting mating butterflies on a disused railway, the lens would probably have suffered some big damage had it not been for this gem being there to save the day. It also does what it is supposed to, keeping out unwanted flares from the Sun whilst not encroaching into view, with this lens anyway. I also use it regularly as a lens rest when attached for my macro insect shots where a tripod is not an option but steadiness is vital (as per usual). I thoroughly recommend getting this with the lens, I really would miss it heaps, for all the reasons stated!

If a lens doens't come with a hood, I buy one. A lens hood is almost always mandatory - it improves contrast, reduces flare, and provides some protection. Folks often think you're a professional (even if you aren't), and that can make taking photographs just that little bit easier! That said, this is probably the only lens hood that I'd say is optional, for two reasons.1) Macro photography means that you usually can't use a lens hood, as it interferes with the flash or generally just gets in the way.2) An unhooded EF100mm f/2.8 lens probably shows less flare than any other unhooded long lens I've used. It's one of Canon's best non-L series lenses, and image-wise,it holds it's own against L-series glass.

I always buy lens hood for all my lenses, mainly for protection and avoiding flare. This lens hood is well build and it will protect the lens front element in case it falls or someone just smash it when you are walking throw a crowded place.A part from that, I use this hood as a lens rest, resting the hood on the ground and pointing to the targeted insect. It is a great way to get better stabilization when you don't have a tripod around.

This piece of plastic is definitely well built. Clicks smoothly on the canon 100mm macro lens, once set in place it gives a new dimension to the lens. Their are cheaper ones but I was of the concern they might not lock properly or can scratch the body. It is overprices by canon, but the quality is nice, the inside is dull black , kind of velvetish finish.

I ordered this hood as the lens was ordered a few days before and wanted the two to work together. The hood arrived within two days and was the genuine article. No grey imports that some sellers try to pass off.The lens still hasnt arrived so that shows the speed of this company.Great service, thank you. Gary

Good quality plastic click in, click out (no release catch) bayonet-type hood with a flocked inner coating that captures stray light. Canon should include it with their EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, though.

As you would expect from Canon, this is a perfect fit for the 100mm Macro lens. It is a very deep hood, so is effective at shielding the lens from stray light. Rather expensive though.
