The battery is easy to insert - I think previous reviewers are trying to open the cover on the bottom of the train rather than the correct battery cover at the BACK of the train which only requires a normal philipps head screwdriver. I'm not sure what is under the cover on the bottom of the train (which does have strange triangular screw heads) but it doesn't matter as you don't need to go in there! So don't be put off by those comments. Batteries are lasting well in my opinion, the train goes well uphill over the bridge, even pulling along several carriages. Fine on corners - I think this depends more on how well your track is set up rather than the engine itself.Really glad I bought it,

We bought this for our 3 year old boy's birthday. He already has the push along red Brio express train and we wanted a battery operated engine to enhance his current trainset. The motor is great and only requires one AA battery. It runs smoothly and quietly, and is able to pull a good few carriages.Sadly, the durability of the train itself is rather disappointing. The plastic is thin, and the flip up roof above the driver keeps coming off, much to the frustration of my son. Considering the price of the train, I do not consider this toy good value for money.

I tend to prefer the brio battery trains as they are more interactive than the ones without movement. Both my 2 years old and 4 1/2 year old enjoy playing with this train and as we have two battery operated trains there is usually little argument. Well built, as expected from a good quality brand. It comes with the train operator, a character in matching outfit to train. Well done Brio.

We have multiple wooden tracks ranging from brio to ikea and other brands that all fit together. Once we bought this for my son he was extremely happy he could see the train move around on its own on the track. Sometimes it needs some help while going up onto ramps if there is too much weight being towed.

A fun addition to Brio set. Door/flap comes off the front easily which is annoying to keep slotting back in. Person sticks out of top of train so doesn’t go under the bridge without getting stuck. Seems sturdy. Does go over the bridges, however. 3 year old likes it, importantly.

My 4 years old son adores this one. Unfortunately even when it's fully charged it has not enough strength to go up steep mountains and bridges if it carries more than one car, but then again I don't think it's supposed to (still, try to explain that to a 4 years old).

This was a bit disappointing as the figure seems a bit large for the cab - a Lego character would be better. But apart from that it is an excellent train to go on the Brio track with controls which can be operated by my two year old grandson.

Bought for my Nephew, he loves it, especially the addition of the driver which you don’t get with the other Brio battery powered trains.As you’d expect from Brio the quality is excellent and built to last for years.

Received package within a few days of ordering.It fits in well with the playtive train set from lidl.My grandson loves it.A good quality product... will definitely be buying more of the brio make.

I bought this for my nephew for Christmas, it is quite powerful considering it is battery operated & fitted the track very well considering you can mix & match from other similar products.

Problem with order as the train stopped working within one day. This appears to be a common problem for this particular train. Does not meet the high standards of other Brio products.

Purchased this for my son for Christmas. As always Brio always has fun pieces to add to a child's collection.Shipping and arrival where perfect right on time!

Great little train easy to use and works really with my sons track even going up hills and over the bridge. Doesn’t seem to drain batteries either.

quite fun to have, for my 5yo though the door does come off if one is little bit rough or drops by mistake (even if can be put back)

Bought this a year ago for my son. Twelve months on and it is still going well, and he still enjoys playing with it on his track.
