A solid quality product with prompt delivery and well packaged. A few things to note; to initiate control of the train you first need to ensure both remote and train are set to the same remote Channel A or B, press any button on the engine, the remote control is infra red so is line of sight you may need to orientate the remote control as your engine goes round the track- ensure the signal emitter (red bulb bit) is facing towards the train. The remote control and engine take two AA batteries each which lasts about 8 hrs continuous use in the engine before noticeably fading performance but still useable well beyond that. But the two batteries means it is fairly powerful but is slow. The remote control has four positions - locked forward, forward, stop and reverse. The engine has great sounds associated with its movement- including a chuffing sound when it first moves off, a braking sound when stopped and a horn which can be sounded from the remote control also has on/off switchable headlights again controllable from the remote control. The engine can easily pull three carriages but seems to get grounded when reversing up hills. With a character seated in the carriage it wouldn’t pass over the Brio arch bridge we had- the character’s head getting caught in the over beams but passes through our tunnels without issue. Being used by my 2 + years old boy he preferred the control buttons on the engine itself rather than the remote control. The remote control is dual channel A or B and the engine needs to be set to the corresponding channel. Does mean the same controller could be used alternating between Channel A and B to control a second remote control Brio engine or two remote control engines can be used without interfering with each other ( I noticed a red remote control freight train is also available) A brilliant addition to our Brio kit. Just to top things an auto shut off after a few minutes saves on battery drainage. Arguably the best featured powered engine available. Wishing other engines available had this feature set.

My 3yr old son had requested this train after seeing it on youtube and was overjoyed when it arrived and I could not get it out of the packaging fast enough. The Train needs 2 1.5V AA Batteries and the Controller also needs 2 1.5V AA Batteries. Having read the reviews we were braced for a faulty or poor performing train and sure enough after 30mins of messing about trying all the batteries we could find and getting the battery checker to make sure that we were definitely using fully charged batteries, the train was only able to travel backwards and the remote did nothing... My husband broke the news to my 3yr old that it had to be returned... disappointment all round... then, Super Mum (that's me)re-read the instructions and saw that they specify 1.5v AA Batteries. On examining all the batteries we (my husband) had used it transpired they were all 1.2v. I then turn the house upside down and empty all battery operated toys in the house in search of 1.5V AAs and change all 4 of the batteries. Voila a 100% working train that goes back and forward, up and down bridges and honks - 3y old son is absolutely ecstatic.

Good train. My 6 year old loves it. Not very fast but not bad. Strong enough to pull a couple of carriages. Gets up small hills. Tips for people who can't get the remote to work:1. Make sure the remote and train are switched to the same channel (A or B).2. Activate the train by pressing the forward button on the top of it. The remote won't work until the train is activated first.3. It's infra red so you need to point the remote at the red window on top of the train. Just like your tv remote needs to be pointed at the TV. Move closer or elevate slightly so there is a clear line of sight between controller and top of train. (Also make sure child's hand is not covering the front of the controller.)4.If you have bright sunlight the infra red won't be very effective. Darken the room.

I bought this train for my 2 year old daughter, it was for her birthday and it was the most played with toy. I had already bought the Tesco wooden track and train and saw this train come up on a deal for only £7 so snapped it up.It needs AA batteries in both the remote and train but lasts for quite some time as she constantly played with it. I could hear the whirring of the train when she had left it running off the track! This will also run on hard floors so they will have great fun all over the house. The remote is simple and easy for little hands to control, my daughter particularly liked the lights and horn button on it!This is a really lovely train and it was made fantastic by the price I got it for.Such a bargain.

The lad aged 19 months absolutely loves it, as does 64 yo grandad. It works as a clockwork train as well as remote control, which is a bonus as the wee one can switch it on and off and put it into reverse himself when he cant get the remote off his Papa. Personally I wish they made a more retro version, and one slight quibble is that the passenger carriage doesn't go through the tunnels when the passenger is on board as her arms stick out the side of the carriage (unsure if tunnel is Brio). The sound effects and headlights are good.Original (duracell plus) battery still working after 7 hours use, though will need changed soon as the engine is starting to struggle up the slopes with carriages attached.

This train is awesome! It's easy for a 3 year old to control and really fun for all ages. The control goes forward, backwards, faster, switches the lights on and off and makes a choo choo noise. You have to make sure the little red semi circle on the control is pointing at the train for it to work well though. It goes up and down hills with ease and other carriages from other trains can be attached. Looks really good with its little lights on in the dark! My daughter puts all her other little toys in the carriage it comes with to give them rides. Daddy has loads of fun with it too! We used good quality batteries and still going strong. Glad we chose this one out of all we looked at.

More expensive than I would like to pay, but I wanted to get something reliable for my son, nothing worse than a toy breaking and an upset child. Great product, pulls four carriages easily could possibly pull more. Remote needs to be visible to the train as it works off infra red, a bit like a tv remote control, this can be annoying if there is no line of sight and I can't see why they could not use a standard radio control instead? The train can be used without the control as it has buttons on top. Works fine with our mix of compatible train tracks. Brought this for my son, but really it was more for me than him as pushing trains around by hand is only so fun for a while.

I bought this train set for my daughter's birthday and it does not disappoint.Very nicely presented in box and is of the high quality you would expect from Brio. My daughter loves being able to press the buttons to make the train go forwards and backwards and likes the noises (not too loud!) and lights. So far seems very durable as has been played with a lot. Fast dispatch from uk seller too.

Very successful with my 3 year old grandson who was very quickly able to operate it. Manages slopes and bridges as long as it is not pulling too many carriages. Can operate it by using the remote or the buttons on the engine which makes it very flexible. Grandson loves the lights and sounds and has had a fun playing with it.

Insert the batteries, select the correct Channel on Both and off it goes. As it slows to a stop the "Sound of the Brakes" is great. The remote has a good line of sight range and I am very pleased as will be my Grandson come Christmas. In the meanwhile it will be Grandads toy train ... great to control from an easy chair.

Lovely train perfect for toddlers/little ones.Used by my 3year old with his wooden track and he loves it. Only issue is it doesn’t always do well on bends and hills but generally really pleased with it despite the expense. Think £15 would be much more reasonable but had to get my son so coughed up £26!

My DS wanted a remote controlled train toy and this was the perfect gift as it not only fulfilled his Christmas wish but also added to his existing wooden track set. Good solid product and easy to use for a child. DS spentany hours playing with it on Christmas itself!!

I got this for a boy who is very into trains and it is great for me when I'm playing too! He prefers to push them himself but it's meant we can play for longer together as I don't have to movaround the track so much. Highly recommend it but it slower than I had hoped.

Such a nice product but slightly temperamental. The remote only works with fresh batteries replaced regularly and with it being pointed very near the train. A bit tricky for a 3 year old. But I believe it is the best brio remote battery powered one they offer.

28.7.2016

Very durable, with duracell batteries this toy keeps going for weeks, sometimes my boy leaves it switched on and it's just pushing against a wall for hours and amazed it's still going strong. It must make very efficient use of the battery.
