Wow... puling uphill without any problems: 1 xlarge, 3 large, 2 medium and 1 small wagons!? Very simple engine (no lights, no sounds, no details). One mode - forward by pressing the front of the engine (even our 18 months old little one can do it). One AA battery (strongly recommend Sanyo Eneloop rechargable for hours of hard work). This engine is much stronger than the green 'more advance' one. Just wondering how many more wagons will stop this sweet orange POWER-horse..

I've bought about 6 or 7 battery operated trains for the Brio track and this is the best, so I bought another. Out of all those trains those 2 are the only ones still going. The Big Red is also good, it lasted quite a while but has given up the ghost now, probably worth another buy. Ignore the posts above about removing the battery to turn on/off, you just need to press the top down somewhere behind the orange arrow and it starts, press again it stops, no reverse.

A great piece of kit for a reasonable price - especially when compared to the price of the Thomas & Friends battery trains. It handles steep bridges effortlessly and is perfectly compatible with the Ikea and Chad Valley tracks we have. Our 2.5yo is delighted with his new toy!

This is a great little train. We bought it to replace the one that came with my sons train track as that one broke after 1 week. This one can go up hills with carriages easily and the on/off function is easy for my 2 yo to work himself - no fiddly switches.

Bought as replacement for my daughter's Lidl train which the magnet had fallen off. Fits the Lidl track perfectly and runs nice and fast. Good value for money and I like the simple press on the bonnet to switch off/on which seems more durable than a switch

Have tried lots of battery operated trains, a lot of them are no good. Brio might be expensive but they know what they're doing. This train isn't fast but it's strong, can pull other trains and doesn't get stuck up hills like so many other trains do

While this wasn't the engine I thought I'd bought it performs well and our grandson loves the way it pulls several carriages. It performs better than most of the other engines he has. Very pleased overall.

It took me a while to realise it had to be switched on and off while sitting on a surface - I was trying to do it in my hand. Of course, the 3 year old had no such problem and it was for him after all

Brilliant little train. Pulls loads of trains along with ease. Best wee train we have bought our son so far it out does all the rest including his expense Thomas the tank. Highly recommend

A very basic engine. It uses just one AA battery which lasts well. It is very strong and easy to use. Push the top down to go, push it down again to stop. Even an adult can do it

Bought for my grandson to go on his wooden track. He loves it. I like that it doesn't go too fast, it manages the inclines well, even with quite a few carriages behind it.

Fun and simple moving train without flashing lights and sounds that deplete the battery quickly. But leave it out of the toy basket as it easily switches itself on!!

This train engine is a sturdy little thing. Good power, can pull a good amount of carriages at a steady pace. Definitely a winner.

This is a strong little train, and what it lacks in character and detail, it makes up for in pulling power.
