This product was bought in October 2015 for my son (who was 19 months at the time) to improve his concentration and hand-eye coordination. He has been playing with it for over 8 weeks now and absolutely loves it.Build:- The stacker is made of superior quality wood- It includes a solid wood base with a pole along with 8 rings, all in different diameters- All rings are painted in attractive colors- The color of the pieces does not shed/come off e.g. when rubbed against another surface- There is no danger of the wood fragmenting and causing splinters, and hence is totally safe when used by little hands- All pieces are painted in attractive rainbow colors as follows:1 piece in Violet2 pieces inshades of blue2 pieces in shades of green1 piece in yellow1 piece in orange1 piece in red (the round one at the top)NOTE: Please note that the stacker that was received is different to the one depicted in the picture. The pieces are slightly different in color (e.g. no black piece, and only 1 red piece at the top etc.) but this is not an issue as it still comes in very vibrant colors and is in no way defective.Suitability & Safety- The toy Is suitable for my son's age but it isn't exactly a 'soft' toy so care is needed if allowing younger children to play with it (I would not give this to a child that is under 18 months old). We first gave it to our son when he was about 18 months old- The pole attached to the wooden base is not sharp and hence does not pose any risk, but I would still take extra care as a toddler may still get hurt if he/she falls on the pole- It does not have any sharp edges- The toy does not particularly pose a choking hazard as even the smallest of the pieces is too big for a toddler to swallow- It is robust and sturdy enough - the pieces have survived being dropped from the top of the staircase (1 storey house) so many times that I have now lost count. Despite, this, there has been no obvious visible damage.Conclusion- I have noticed that my son's hand-eye coordination has improved in just a couple of weeks of playing with the toy and hence the toy certainly does help with learning- He finds removing the rings as enjoyable as stacking them- He not only enjoys his toy but is gradually also learning about colors/shapes

Perfect to stimulate the mind, imagination, motor and construction skills. The whole train is quite big (about 18 inches long) Pieces are chunky and colourful and shapes are easy for even little ones to think what is an engine and what are carriages. It can be used as a pull along toy for younger children too. My lo loved to build the train himself and always got very excited once it was done and pulled it all around the house. Me as a parent I found it to be one of them toys you can play with your child over and over again without getting too bored. Definitely one of our favourite toys! Also very easy to clean and even after a year of use the colours stay bright. It was such a hit we had to buy it for our niece too and I do recommend it to all of my friends their kids are getting into this age. I'm adding the picture how the train looks like after a year of use. When it was not played with it was just chucked in the box full of other toys and it's still looks like a new toy. Very good quality, highly recommended.

I bought this wooden train for my nephew for christmas, he'll be just over two so a perfect age for this. It is absolutely spot on in my opinion. The train is very well made and you can feel the build quality when you handle it. The colours are vibrant and eye catching too. There is the engine and two carriages which all link up and can be pulled/pushed as the wheels move smoothly indeed. This is a big toy for the price and the quality when you look at others out there. It is about 18 inches long and 6 inches high. There is loads of scope for using this as an educational tool. There are 15 colourful segments that can be easily handled by little hands and reconfigured onto the train to stimulate the mind,hand/eye coordination, imagination, counting, construction skills! This is a great little quality toy. I can see it lasting for years and maybe being passed on! Highly recommended.

My one year old was given this as a gift, and likes it - although I wouldn't say loves it.The train itself is sturdy, with an engine and a couple of carriages made of wood. A couple of poles on each carriage allow the coloured blocks (which come in a variety of shapes) to be arranged in any combination that a child wants. The wheels mean it can be used as a push- or pull-along toy. When my one year old is a bit older, I'll attach some string to the train so it can be pulled along. It's not a toy that keeps attention for too long - there are too many toys around the room that make a noise for this train to become a favourite, but it's a great way to learn about shapes, colours, and taking things apart and putting them back together again (so great for fine motor skills).Just one thing that detracts from a good toy - the blocks can lose their paint quite quickly.

There is nothing wrong with the toy at all, it is a very sturdy and nicely made little toy. I was surprisised it was so The toy is rather small - my fault, I didn't check any measurments. However it is a pefectly functional size, and being made of wood, it is probably better to be small or it would be too heavy.I bought it for my 14 month-old granddaughter and I have had a couple of problems:1. our cockapoo loves running off with the rings and chewing them (obviously not the fault of the toy), and2. our little darling spends most of the time running around wielding the stacking pole like a marauding viking so much so that we have had to confiscate it to avoid injury to herself, the dog or ourselves. This somewhat defeats the object of the toy other than discuss colours sizes etc so I think it is better for when she is a bit older.

We were looking for good wooden toys, and this is certainly one of them. Even though our son somehow managed to break off one of the pegs connecting the carriages, as it was wood it was easily glued back on again. (If this had been plastic, it would have been a write-off.) One minor issue with quality-control on the unit we received -- it seems like it had been assembled in the factory before the paint was completely dry, so the blocks were slightly stuck together and the paint where they touched came off in separating them. But you know at least that this will take a beating and still be there even when other toys have long since been destroyed. It is a good size as well.

I gave this to a child that I mind for Christmas and he loves it, he is a little young as he is almost 1 but I thought it was a toy that he would grow into and his older sister who is almost 3 could help him play with it.He loves taking all the blocks off and banging them together and it is well made enough to withstand this constant battering.I would highly recommend this item over the ones I saw in our local stores and as it is slightly bigger and more durable than they looked and it was about the same price as them.Brilliant fun for years to come and possibley a toy that will stand the test of time and not end up in a bin but can be passed on to someone else.

I bought this as a 1st birthday present for my cousin and while he's a bit young for it right now he can definitely grow into it. We adults even had loads of fun playing with it! The pieces stack well, it moves smoothly, and the parts are chunky and easy to grip. You can also use the blocks on their own to build other shapes. Great for encouraging hand-eye co-ordination and colour and shape recognition. Two things that let it down1) I noticed the paint had come off one of the blocks where he had chewed it.2) A presentation box or bag to store the pieces when not in use would be useful, as I can imagine the blocks getting lost. But a good buy overall.

This is my daughter's favourite toy!She has lots of wooden toys and some plastic toys. This is her favourite as she loves to pull the rings off. Since she could sit she loves to dismantle then crawl and play with the rings on the floor. The next stage is learning how to re-stack. My older children love to play with this toy with the baby too. Fun for all!The toy still looks new. The colours don't run, no chipping or flaking. The rings have been gnawed and thrown but looks perfect. The only criticism is the red ball on top sits about 1cm above the top ring so it doesnt look exactly like the photos as advertised.I'd still highly recommend!

I bought this product as an impulse buy as it was on offer cheap. So glad I did, my little boy loves it. He enjoys stacking the rings or taking them off and putting them in his truck. It looks timeless and is well made. Only downside which is no fault of the product is that my little boy rubbed the coloured rings on his freshly painted bedroom walls and some of the colour transferred into the walls. This should be no means stop you purchasing the product, just an anecdotal story highlight what mischief a toddler can have with such a harmless looking toy. Product arrived promptly and the price was excellent.

I have been learning about Autism and theory of Mind and THIS toy is TERRIFIC to facilitate the Tower of Hanoi Puzzle on young children. One set of rings are put on the right pole and the child asked to move them all, with as few moves as possible to the left pole, to be in the same order, no large ring above a smaller ring. For more on that read "The Autism Spectrum in the 21st Century" from the GREAT OU & Jessica Kingsley Publishers !I hope the paint does not rub off on other rings - but hey! if it does I shall just have to paint them again !

This is a really clever sorting stacker. It can be differentiated up or down to suit the level of your child. My toddler currently is practising putting the round shapes on the stacker in size order. You can also make this into a much harder game for older children and use it to do the Tower of Hanoi task. The quality of this toy is extremely good, the wooden blocks are solid and durable, it will survive being tipped over or dropped numerous times! I love to buy Melissa and Doug toys for the quality reason and this stacker has not let me down.

I bought this to give as a gift to the 1 year old child of a friend. It arrived in reasonable time and was well packaged. It looked very nice, although certainly not of top quality, but it's good enough. I especially choose this because it's wooden, over other plastic games. It's nice that the wheels of the train rotate. I advised the mother to tie a string in front so the child can drag it along as it learns to walk on its own. The shapes and colors of the cubes are very good for this age too, because they help improve skills.

Two and half year old granddaughter loves playing and doing the many variations, whether with colour shape of just to see how high she can stack things, with this geometric stacker. Though I wish Melissa & Doug manufacturers would supply wooden boxes with lids with some of their variety of wooden toys. Bits can get lost - this one not too bad as they have the 'post' in middle to hold together. I would happily pay a few pounds extra for a box that could contain particular toys, especially ones with lots of little pieces.

A lovely item, was purchased as a gift and was very well received. Packaged in clear wrap, so when presented as a gift has an instant reaction. The train rolls along well and the primary colours are attractive for young children. The stacking pieces slide on and off easily and had no splintering edges to be concerned about. Recipient has enjoyed playing with this toy and its use can be expanded to teaching colour sorting, shapes and numbers. Looks very nice on the toy shelf when not in use so Mummy was happy too.
