This is most definitely not the cheapest wooden train you'll find, Tesco do some nice ones for a couple of quid if that's what you need! This however is well made, and the action of the wheels and piston makes it a bit different. I think some people moaned about this not being battery driven, no idea why they think it would be, look on Brio's site for the full spec. This is a premium toy wooden train, so makes a nice gift for a kid.Brios train magnets seem stronger than most, so a toddler doesn't get frustrated when they all come apart!You could get a whole cheap train set for this cost, but the finish on this will last longer and it will take those knocks from being thrown around.

My two year old won a prize for filling up his marble jar (1 marble = good behaviour or achievement) and we typed trains into Amazon (his obsession) he saw this and chose it immedately. We looked at loads after it but every time this one popped up he got so excited. Every day he asked "Is my old puffer pete train coming?! - apparently it looks a bit like the puffer pete from chuggington?!) and on the day it came he was overjoyed! That was yesterday and it's barely left his hand. He's slept and napped with it. The way it looks chugging along the track is so different to his other wooden trains and it's over taken the wooden THOMAS & Annie & Clarabel which is some achievement!! Well made,

My son 6years live it. He spent he's pocket money on it. And couldn't wait when it will be delivered. And all this week the train is in his hands. He sleep with it.About train: it is nice, the yellow plastic detail on the wheel is moving when train goes. It is black and yellow and red, solid. A little expensive, as for me. We bought a lot of wooden trains and railway in Lidl (usually they sell wooden train sets before Christmas every year) more cheaper than Brio. And actually quality is nearly the same. But we can't wait untill Christmas :)

My 3 yr old just loves this. I should have bought 2 becaue the 1 year old is always trying to take it off him. That said I am not sure about the longevity of the item. The connecting rods for the wheels look a bit frail and a small piece of grit got inside one of the 'pistons' and seized the movement. I managed to free it but had to exercise extreme caution so as not to break the connecting rods. I also wanted to use it on another cheaper brand of similar track. It is not a brilliant fit around the corners but okay on the straights.

My son loves this little engine. Seeing the pistons move as it rolls along is endlessly fascinating, either on the track or on a table-top. "It's chuffing!" he exclaims. After the disappointment of battery-powered engines that left him far too passive (just watching the train go around) it's great to see him getting closely involved in the action again.

As there were only two, negative reviews here, I feel compelled to balance this out a little. Our one works perfectly, with a gorgeous and smooth piston movement finishing what is a lovely miniature locomotive. I hope that the broken ones that others have received are by far the minority as I too would expect Brio to have high standards.

This is a lovely little engine, that's all it is, just the engine you see pictured. However it has a nice motion with piston bar moving along as the wheels turn. We love and collect Brio, I would say out of all the wooden train sets brio is an investment. A timeless classic that can be passed down the generations.

According to the grandson he was waiting all year for this present, and it was great. I could not rate sturdiness or durability as I bought this item online from a picture only and longevity will depend on the 4 year old who plays with it.

Beautifully made, enchanting reciprocating action. Bought for a toddler (nearly three) who absolutely loves it. Brio always seems to offer better quality than 'compatible brands' and this is no exception.

As described and arrived very quickly. Buy authentic brio and you know what you're going to get, very sturdy and colourful, an excellent buy for a 2 year old grandchild who loves it.

Loved by two year old. The parts are what you would expect to find on a steam engine and the yellow bit on the wheels moves as it is pushed along. Usual brio high quality.

Great little brio train for the price. Looks good and the moving parts make it that bit more interesting. My train officianado was impressed and thats not easy to do....

Quite possibly the best ever toy train! Son loves it so much we now have 2. Excellent build quality, fits on all the brands of the generic wooden track. 10/10.

Great little product but don’t get caught out?!!?!?! It’s not battery operated! Silly me should of read in more detail. Seller was 100% and delivered rapidly!

summer holiday present , not opened yet but Brio has been a favourite with our children for years (30) so our old track will have new train ,bridge and bell.
