I've been faithful to Braun shavers since my teenage years - apart from one brief affair with a shapely rotary shaver a few years ago. That was all a big mistake, we were never really compatible, there were minor skin injuries, I was left half-shaven and bitter, tempers were lost, bad things were said - it all ended very badly. Thankfully Braun and I are back together again, older and a little wiser, they've made some changes, I've made some payments, things are good again. The thing I like most about the current 5 series is that they've distilled everything that's good about a Braun shaver into an incredibly refined and simple-looking design - there aren't any bells or whistles,

Bought this shaver after the cutter was starting to blunt on my Panasonic Es-rf51, fantastic shaver but the replacement cutter and foil were ridiculously expensive to replace (probably due to the 4 blade system). The replacement foil for this model seemed more reasonable and I had a good experience with a series 3 before so thought I'd give this a try. When it arrived it seemed very sleek and well built, probably the nicest looking shaver I've had but it's the shaving experience that's important.The shave experience has its good and bad. The good being it seems to be the most effective shaver for lifting stubborn neck hair I have ever used! Also the motor in this shaver seems more powerful than its predecessors.

Very comfortable to hold. Close and VERY comfortable shave. A bargain at £89.00. Have been using Braun series 5 for many years. Of course the design changes but this model gives me the smoothest shave to date. Recently bought Series 7 - was very smooth but had to go over skin several times to get a close shave - returned and bought 5050cc. Still have to go over skin more than once but no shaver I have ever used cleared stubble first time except for Braun 8595 which was like a lawn mower but with the consequence of giving me sore skin and rashes. The cleaning machine is basic but very efficient. It cleans in 2-3 minutes but takes many hours to dry (air dries only, no internal heat)

Good quality shave, slightly noisier than my old Series 3.A number of purchasers appear to have had problems with charging, or the lack of it. The issue could be, as with mine, it came with a Southern European two pin charger (even though the packaging and box were in English). Southern European pins are thinner and longer than those in the North and what the UK uses in bathrooms. As the plug section is quite heavy if not inserted perfectly square, it drops slightly at the top and loses connection. Fortunately my old Series 3 charger is the correct Northern European two pin, stubbier and thicker, and works perfect with a Series 5.

I've used a series 3 for many years and was happy with it but this series 5 is a major step up. Shaving is much quicker even with a several day stubble that the series 3 needed many passes to properly cut and the resulting shave is much smoother. The LiIon battery is also much better as it can be recharged whenever needed without loss of capacity whereas the series 3's NiCd battery had to be drained fully which could leave you short on a journey away if the timing was wrong.Never used the cleaning base station - seems like a pointless gimmick but that's just me!Highly recommended.

Bought to replace rotary shaver which cost almost twice the price and this Braun outperforms the rotary in every way. Charge lasts for ages.Shaver thoroughly recommended.

This was a gift. It delivered on the 'wow' factor. He is very happy with this item. It does a good job and looks the part. Very pleased.
