Philips Aquatouch AT899 shaverMy shaving History - I had my first Philips 3 head "Philishave" when I first started shaving 50 years ago. That was somewhat heavy, clunky, only worked when plugged into a 2 pin shaver socket and somewhat inferior in closeness of shaves even to the wet shave blades of the day...Conclusion - adequate shave , no damage to sensitive skin but needed a power outlet ( Note it still works however) .It did come with its own ( rather bulky) hard carrying case.Fast forward 50 years to a light, ergonomically shaped, waterproof," use anywhere" shaver. battery powered ( cannot use when attached to the cable) ,again will not damage /nick sensitive skin but how will the closeness of shave vs.wet disposable multiblades and the what are number of shaves per charge ( 8h required - similar to an electric toothbrush!). Will it handle both overnight and 5 day stubble? Can it handle "longer hairs?NOTE This was a Vine review sample and may not be identical to the final sale itemOut of the box - shaver unit with detachable head cover , 2 pin charger unit ( Will work on 110 or 240V) , cleaning brush , no carrying pouch for items , no side burn trimmer ( see other models) , Warrantee - there is an invitation to register online ( NOTE For this you must find the serial number - very small - on the back of the shaver. Also keep the purchase receipt or scan it and send it online). This gives you a 3 year warranty and registration number which you can print or print screen save to wordThere is a next to useless user compliance manual (21 languages).a welcome sheet for use of 13 products and a random sheet with no back up references. Philips I find is useless on user manuals in the box - register with them and download one from the website. They try to cover too many products / languages - get data in your own language from the websiteShaving criteria - People will have their own criteria of acceptability ranging from "visually shaved" to hand touch / "babies bum" smoothness - usually only obtained by wet shavingShave dry - runs very quiet (and is it running fast enough?),Gave a surprisingly close shave after 4 minutes (moving the shaver in a rotary action) - got the wife's approval!Shave wet ( with gel) - wet shaving traditionally gives better shaves as warming the skin with hot water exposes the hairs from the follicle. Traditionally I do a wet shave with a multiblade disposable immediately after having a showerFor this test I tried simply with a small amount of warm wet gel on a 3 day old stubble shaving with a light rotary motion for 4 minutesResults were impressive - at least as good as with an old disposable blade (I make mine last at least 2 weeks!)Rinsing away the gel/beard particles required a fairly vigorous tap stream. I then left the razor open to dry for ca 1h - there is no advice on drying or whether you simply store the unit wet. It is supposedly totally waterproof. I might have got an ultimate shave if I had combined this with a shower with the face fully wet with hot water. Still - very impressive.Battery time - claims 40 minutes use, ca 14 shaves - I reckon on 10 shaves / charge - will report in due courseCharge time - give at least 8h until the orange then green charging light stops flashing and goes outLow charge indicator is said to cut in when recharge is necessaryCleaning - can use the brush supplied (if dry) or flush under a running tap after using wet - do NOT use water above 80COverview summaryFor - neatness, ergonomic, modern, use anywhere (dry / wet), 2+1 year guarantee (register online), change blades at 2 yrs. Not a bad shave but some people may find traditional wet multiblades better. Very good for people with sensitive skin for avoiding nicking and cutting. The wet shave , with light use of gel , was impressive - even on 3 day stubble. At least as good as a used disposable multiblade with no irritation.Against - no storage pouch , poor ,confusing use literature ( go online and get a better leaflet whilst registering for your 3 year warranty at [...] . ).Note that you will need the serial number ( front of unit) to register and this is very small print. You have to register ONLINE which could be an inconvenience to some people. Unless you have a shaver point you will need a 2 pin to 3 pin mains adaptor.Battery charging is long compared to their other products and recharge after 10 - 14 shaves may be required - you get due warning , do it overnight. No sign yet of the WQ8 replacement blades online or prices - replace blades after 2 years. If you get an early warning ( lights or sounds , can reset by holding down the on off button for more than 5 secondsAs currently ( Sept 2013 ) a discounted item on Amazon - definitely worth considering - I rate it 4-5 star overall and 5 star for shaving performance . I deducted 1 star for poor literature/lack of storage/carrying pouch as it is designed to be " going anywhere" and there is no form of stand whilst charging. - the unit may fall off a surface. An adaptor may also be needed.Do check what level of shave is acceptable to you vs. the convenience. Recommended for those with sensitive skins

Waterproof and well made, this is a quality shaver from the well known Philips brand. It can be used dry or wet, with shaving gel or foam for comfort and less irritation. You can use it in the shower. Pretty good value now on Amazon, those looking for a good introduction to Philips shaving can be content to use this model. Charge up time is a bit long as others have said, but it is what it is. The only thing missing is a side-burn trimmer. If you need that, then look elsewhere.I was pleased with the environmentally sensitive packaging - Philips have shipped this product in a simple card box with an inner made of 'egg-box' card which holds the shaver, a little cleaning brush, charging lead, and documentation, as well as a plastic shaver head cover. The unit charges for 8 hours, with a flashing green light on charge, steady green then off on fully charged. In use, it is fairly quiet and very business-like. I used it with shaving foam. It's a comfortable experience. I enjoyed it. I think this is my new way of shaving, having wet shaved with Gillette Mach3 and other, cheaper razors, for many years. Highly recommended. I should also say that the triple heads are truly conforming to your facial contours - this is the best I have seen in a Philips shaver so far - not only are the housings for the silver heads articulated, but the heads themselves are dampened within their housing. You have to see it to believe it. Very impressive. If you watch the little promotional video, you'll get some useful tips, including this one: when shaving wet, rinse the heads every so often under the tap during use, to clean the heads. I thought about doing it when I first used it, but didn't. I will in future. :-)UPDATE: So I've had this since September 2013, when I first charged it. Now, about 2 months later, I have to charge it for the second time(16-11-13). I only shave about once a week or less, since I don't really have that much in the way of vigorous facial hair growth, but even so, it proves this device holds its charge well. As I was using it earlier, the orange light came on and blinked, but I had enough energy to finish the job before placing it on charge.

I have long used Remington razors so I was very interested to see how the opposition, in this case Philips, compared. This is an ergonomically satisfying shaver which fits easily into the hand and is quite a light weight model. The three heads independently swivel so that the shaver moves easily around the contours of the face and this is very similar to the system I am used to on the Remington triple head.To me the most important issue for any electric shaver is how good and easy the shave is. Here there was little to criticise. The shave was close and I would imagine that few would find it wanting. It was also very easy to use and I was able to achieve a very satisfactory shave all round in a very short space of time.It was also comfortable and did not affect my skin, although you may find that initially you get some discomfort if you are used to a manual razor. However, this would be common to any electric razor.Although this wins on shave quality and finish there are a few issues which I thought were less than optimum. Firstly an 8 hour charge period seems ridiculously long to me and I wonder why this would be as Philips shavers normally take an hour. There was no initial charge out of the box, so you have to be patient before you can first use it. The lack of a timer showing how much charge is left is not ideal - the description suggests that there is an indicator, but apart from a green indicator when being charged, the sample I tested did not show any indication of charge. I am used to a clipper tool which pops out and this shaver lacks that. A small point, but a travelling pouch would have been a cheap and useful addition. On the other hand, it is very easy to pop up the head for cleaning and this is a wet and dry shaver which some will find useful.Overall I would rate this as a good purchase in the medium price range. Shaving results are good, and you will need to judge whether the points I have mentioned above are of any importance to you.

Few brands offer a close and comfortable shave, Philips however are one that do. The solid build quality and ergonomic shape means that it's comfortable to hold, balanced, and the well placed and engineered power switch and display means that when you've packed for that all important holiday you can trust you shaver will still be charged when you get to your destination. The `comfort cut' shaving heads and `Skin Glide' surface allow for a close but comfortable shave. The `Wet & Dry' feature allows for the use of foam or not, giving you more choice. And the easy clean flip cap means you can simply rinse the head under the tap when switched on.Despite it's rather obvious recycled box material and no frills interior, the shaver is securely packaged and comes with power adaptor (to 2 pin shaver plug), a brush for cleaning, plastic head cap and the usual paperwork. I was slightly disappointed not to see a small case or neoprene pouch which some of the others in the Philips range do. I would debate the 8 hour charge and 45mins shaving times with Philips but for most, the battery will hold up just fine. The Lithium Ion battery itself usually guarantees several good years of battery life before you'll notice any sort of degradation. As someone who doesn't shave every day, I did find the Aqua Touch wasn't quite as good for cutting after a few days growth as some others and found myself going over the same spot a few times more than I would expect, but for the price and build quality, it's a shaver you can't argue with and will make any gentleman a happy soul come Christmas day.

If you are looking for a good basic shaver of this design, this model is a good option. It doesn't come with add-ons or gadgets. If you want a intigratated sideburn or beard trimmer, you need to order a different model such as:Philips RQ1195/17 SensoTouch wet and dry electric shaverIf you want the upgrade including the automatic cleaner, this is quite pricey and I don't think it does anything more than you can do manually with a brush. And the cleaning gadget does take up bathroom shelf space.Philips Senso Touch Wet and Dry Electric Shaver with Jet Clean SystemThe instructions are minimal and pictorial so I recommend viewing the instructional video above.I was interested to learn that the casing is entirely waterproof and you can shave while showering. I have never been in this much of a hurry but suffice it to say that, to clean or rinse of foam, it is perfectly safe to run it under the tap. The lack of instructions is no real problem since you simply charge and go.I charged mine for eight hours initially as the instructions stated. However, subsequently I have found it charges much quicker after the initial charge. It gives a comfortable close shave if you're shaving every day. You do not need to apply much pressure while shaving which makes it good for anyone whose skin is easily irritated. It's not that great for heavy stubble, though. The RRP seems a little steep which is why I docked it 1 star, but I would recommend this shaver as an everyday basic appliance providing you can get it for a good price.

From some perspectives, this shaver is more basic than the first Philips shaver I owned more than 10 years ago. My reason for saying this is because this particular model does not incorporate a neck trimmer, something which I have had on every other electric shaver I've owned. However, on the other hand, no other shaver I've owned has been fully waterproof. On this basis, I guess there has been a trade off between functionalities and I suppose the wisdom of this depends on your needs.Putting this trade off in features aside, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the core function of this shaver. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it offers a much smoother shave than some of the more expensive models I've used in the past, although this may be due in part to the fact that this has new blades and I can't fully remember the performance of the others when new! There is a key flaw in this product however and that is in relation to the charging time. One of the first things which you are warned not to do is to use the shaver while plugged in, however, not everyone has eight hours to wait (charging time) before having a shave. Fair enough, you can charge it overnight, however there also does not appear to be a low battery warning light so one can never be sure when it actually needs a charge. A minor plus side is that a single charge seems to last a reasonably long time and I have found that I can easily get a month's use out of it when used every day (or sometimes every other day).

This shaver is lightweight, easy to move/rotate over your skin and it fits comfortably in your hand. The three rotary heads glide smoothly over the contours reaching the hard to access recesses. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is - by far the least noisy of all my previous shavers - and was curious to see how it performed as a wet shave compared to a dry one.Wet shave:Used with shaving gel it gives excellent results. I was sceptical at first but I have to admit, the results were 99.9% as good as a traditional wet shave. I'm especially pleased with the wet performance because I've been spending a small fortune over the years alternating wet and dry shaves and buying replacement blades for my razor.Dry shave:It gives an overall smooth shave when using a vertical/horizontal motion. The second application - stretching the skin and using a rotary action - produces a very smooth and clean shave that is especially beneficial for those of us whose taut and youthful contours have become somewhat loose and baggy with age!3 minor downsides:- It takes about 8 hours to re-charge the battery.- It takes a little longer to get a really smooth shave (about 4-5 mins) but believe me, it is worth it.- A travel case of some kind would have been good.I am a big fan of the Phillips brand and prior to using this shaver, I never thought that any other brand could beat the one I already had. Phillips has actually surpassed my old shaver in both performance and comfort.

After a life-time of using a wet (disposable) razor I bought this because I have mobility issues and standing bending at a basin is becoming more difficult. However using it dry produces a shave almost as good as a wet razor, without the occasional nicks that my rather bumpy face experienced. It took a few days to adjust to the technique of using a hand to feel progress rather than a mirror to see where foam is still present but is now a very acceptable process.A full recharge takes about 8 hours and if you plug in immediately after shaving the flashing charging indicator fails to work (warm battery?) but a full charge is about a month's shaves so a weekly topup for a couple of hours is a better plan, and kinder on the battery as well.No real complaint - the razor comes without a travel case and I needed to drill a hole in the brush provided to attach it to the charging unit otherwise this dainty little cleaner could get lost - a redesign of the unit to provide a clip-on area would be nice but not essential. I will probably still use a disposable occasionally just to stop the hairline becoming ragged arounf the ears but have not done so in the past month. At the dicounted price on Amazon it was excellent value for money. Price was a factor in buying as I had no experience of such use and was not sure it was right for me. I would thoroughly recommend the razor to others wavering on a decision between disposable blades and a motor unit.

Like most men I find shaving a complete chore. For most of my adult life I have always wet shaved and only used an old electric shaver and handful amount of times. I was never overly impressed with the feel and finish of an electric shaver, but after using this Philips shaver I was almost instantly converted.I had to keep the Shaver on charge for a good few hours before using it and I was sceptical that it could ever give me a closer shave than a wet shave could. I was wrong. The 3 heads on the shaver gives you an extremely close shave and I was impressed at just how smooth it was. You can also wet shave with the shaver and I tried this also, but I reverted back to using it dry.It probably took my skin about a week to adapt to the dry electric shaves but it is totally worth it. No more expensive razor heads and shaving foam, just a straight forward recharge and you are good to go for around 5 or 6 shaves, the only slight downside is that you tend to need more shaves per week.My beard is extremely think so I probably get less shaves than most men do after the battery has been recharged and I would estimate that a guy with less beard thickness would probably get 7 or 8 shaves out of the battery per recharge. But I certainly couldn't go back to wet shaving now. I am totally converted to the electric shaver and this is the highest praise I could possibly give this device.

Wow! What a fantastic shaver this is! This shaver does what it is supposed to do, it shaves the hairs off, it doesn't pull at the hair, like other shavers can sometimes do, but it neatly slices through each hair without tugging, giving me a gentle pain free shaving experience. Performance gives a very close shave, leaving very little if no stubble what so ever and leaving my skin feeling smooth and being equally as good as a blade shave if not better. I am happy to say I don't think I'll ever use a blade to shave again with this shaver to do the job. As a slight critisism, a small longer hair trimmer would have been a nice addition, as you can get them on some other shavers as a pop out.According to other reviews, the charge time is long at 8 hours, but I haven't had to charge mine up yet to verify this. Even so I do not think this is a major issue because it can be easily charged overnight and be ready for use in the morning, so it is not an inconvenience to me.The shaver is also relatively quiet during use compared to other shavers I have used.Despite the charge time and lack of long hair trimmer, I wouldn't give this shaver anything less than 5 stars. It has to be the best shaver I've ever used and even though it costs quite a bit more than I would usually pay for a shaver, I genuinely think it is well worth it.

Philips AT899 shaverThe Philips AT899 is a wet and dry shaver. It can be used on dry skin or with gel in the shower etc. It has 3 cutting heads with a contour following system. The build quality is good but not as good as the Braun I have used for awhile. In the boxThe shaver, cutter cover, transformer and lead (2 pin shaver socket type), cleaning brush, warrantee and instructions.ChargingThis is a battery shaver with main charging facility. It does take a rather long time to fully charge up - around 8 hours. In useThe first few shaves I tried were dry shaves and it does quite a good job. It took me around 5 minutes to get a good shave. The next few shaves were wet shaves using shaving gel in theshower these were remarkably good and took around 5 minutes again.CleaningThis is easy for dry shaving and wet, just flip the cutter compartment open and brush out or wash out.OverallA nice Philips shaver that gives a very good shave. It is slow to charge compared with other shavers I have had but the charge has lasted for six 5 minute shaves so far with no sign of it needing a change yet This version does not have a built in trimmer that may need prospective buyer to pay more for the next on up in the range. All in all a good shaver that does a great job for an electric shaver.

I got this for my partner who has wet shaved for the 20+ years since he started shaving. He did try an electric shaver 20 or so years ago but didn't like it.He says that this was a great experience! For a start, the shaver was much lighter than he expected. The shaver also fit his hand nicely and he found it easy to grip and use.Using it on dry skin, he found that it produced a close shave. He was surprised by how close a shave it produced. In particular, he found his mustache area was closer than he generally got it using his normal razor. However, on wet skin, it produced both a close shave and a smooth gliding experience. In addition, he found that he could shave himself 'on automatic'.In other words, he could just run the shaver over his face in a fairly careless way and not have to worry about shaving cuts (which he usually gets about once a week or so).The head of the shaver flips open at the press of a simple catch so that you can rinse hair from under the shaving heads. My partner was very pleased with this. He has gone back to wet shaving because that's what he's used to, but he plans on using this on the days when he might be short of time and needs a quick shave without having the time to do a proper wet shave with his usual razor.

This was bought for me as a gift during the mad amazon sale week when me and my girlfriend appeared to have lost out minds and bought a lot of gifts for each other. I have used this shaver three times now..twice wet and once dry and I have to say it shaves and feels a LOT more comfortable on the wet shave. This is and was my first time ever using an electric shaver for wet shaving and I was a little sceptical but I am now sold!!! I decided, for the purpose of research and testing, to see how it would perform as a dry shaver and I found it a little too "harsh" on the skin. I am a Philips man and I had to complete the shave using my trusty James Bond special edition Philishave.I will keep it for wet shaves and alternate between wet and dry shaves as my mood suits me. If you are unsure of this shaver as a wet shaver dont hold back!!! Go ahead and buy it...you wont be disappointed..it shaves clean and leaves the skin smooth and irritation free!

This is a nice solid 3-ring shaver. No fuss, no gimmicks, no cleaning or charging stations - you get the shaver, charging cord, clip on head cover and a little brush to clean out the catch compartment. It does wet and dry shaves and so far has given me a nice clean shave used along with foam and not cut me once. The catch compartment opens up easily at the push of a button.Laugh at me if you will, but I'm so used to shavers coming pre-charged out of the box that for a couple of seconds I worried that it might be broken! I charged it overnight, so am not sure how long it took to charge. It's a shame there's no sideburn trimmer, and I only realised how much of a problem this was when I had to go and get another shaver out the cupboard just so I could finish the job. Without this it feels incomplete to me, but as far as its main purpose goes, it does it well.If you register the shaver you get an additional 1-year guarantee.

Fantastic machine. All the design thought went into the shaver, not into whistles and bells and useless trimmers. And not made in China!James Bond would be proud to own one of these. Black and beautifully designed, seems to go on forever on one charge. Both the shaver and the charger are so light, perfect for travel. I can't think of a better shaver, and way more friendly than those Remington foil cutters that catch the beard and cause pain. This one also shaves almost as good as a blade. One small item: after I've washed the cutters and rinsed inside the open shaver lid, it takes a few shakes for all the water to drain out when I shake it in a downward direction. Seems some water is draining out via the plug opening, but that doesn't make sense.007 being over critical of his gadgets. And the tiny orange text on the back is fading, so harder to read Netherlands. (Not China!!!)Oh James, so obsessive to detail.
