I've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. Suffice to say, it did a poor, patchy job of tidying up my facial topiary, and I swore to never abandon wet shaving ever again.Thank goodness, then, that BzzAgent sent me this Braun Series 5 to try - what an eye opener!Well boxed, well designed, and sleek looking, it oozes quality. This is the sort of thing that would make an excellent gift, as it really is a beauty to look at; so much more than just a boring black shaver. It feels great in the hand, and everything is laid out intuitively so you can get cracking with it right away. The instruction booklet is how instructions should be - short, sweet, and easy to follow. It explains how to get started, as well as maintenance to keep it in good nick (everything you will need to do this is included, of course). As I say, in use it's fairly intuitive, and even a shaving luddite like me picked it up in no time. The head pivots around the contours of your face, and there is nothing to it - just push it around your face at a smooth pace, and let the fancy foil head find all the nooks & crannies. You can lock the head in place as well, in a variety of poses, just for that extra bit of precision should you want it.Once you get the hang of it, you can be done in just a few minutes, and you don't even have to be stood over the sink thanks to the way it collects hair in the unit itself - so it's great if, like me, every minute is precious in the mornings!I was expecting my skin to be mildly irritated, simply because it was something new, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wasn't the case - my skin was smooth and supple as ever, and after my usual routine of sploshing on a bit of very diluted tea tree oil and letting my skin cool, it felt just as happy and smooth as normal. There's a little edge trimmer built-in, which you simply slide out with your thumb, that allows you to do straight edges (e.g. side burns), so it really is a great all-round unit for doing your whole face and neck. All in all, I'm really impressed with this little blighter!Nigh on impossible to take a "selfie" whilst shaving, so the photo belI've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. I have used a couple of dry (electric) razors in the past, and I have to say the Braun is the best one I have used so far. The problem I have is that I want wet (Razor blade and foam) razor performance from a dry razor, and unfortunately I just don't get it. Saying that though, the Braun gets a good enough shave for day to day use, but if I have an important meeting or am meeting clients I will probably revert back to the wet razor. So the product itself comes in a standard box with odds and sods, charger, brush, manual etc nothing out of the ordinary. The manual is not the easiest to read, having all the variants of the range in it and knowing which part applies to your product isn't as simple as it should be,but not impossible. The plug is set up for a shaving socket so if you don't have one of these in your home, you'll need to grab an adaptor. I popped it on charge overnight and in the morning it was ready to go.I'm no Grizzly Adams and on the first shave I had about 2 days growth, not a whole lot, but enough to make it worthwhile. I took my time and got some good if not great results down the cheeks and chin, almost wet razor standard, my issues arose trying to get the neck and lower jaw line. I tried lots of different methods, pulling the skin tight, going with the grain, going against the grain, and randomly mashing my face with the razor. it did some of the hair but I was left with a few tufts which bothered me throughout the rest of my day. And this was the trend throughout my trial period, good quick results down my cheeks and chin, a lot of effort for moderate performance for my neck. Maybe that's just my face, and I have to say the other dry razors I have used did not perform half as well as the Braun did. Will I continue to use the Braun? yes. I like the ability to have a quick run over my face before work without having to do the whole wet razor thing. If I have something important coming up I will be more inclined to wet shave.Would I recommend this product? Yes. for those that use dry razors regularly I think this one is one of the better ones to get hold of and I'm sure once you get your technique right you won't be disappointed. Ok, thought I would give the Braun a fair bit of a work out and review it against my current shaver (Philips Artec, rotary heads and about 4 years old).Likes: It is a fairly substantial shaver, feels really solid (compared to the Philips which seems pretty plastic) Grip is nice and rubbery textured. I like the concept of the push up trimmer on the side, this seemed to be better placed to actually trim the sideburns than my current shave. The shave is reasonable/good,I would add that it similar to my existing shaver.Major like: It seems to be able to pick up the loose hairs. Blokes always seem to get the rouge hairs, one that suddenly appears as if its been secretly been grown and then planted on your neck. The Braun seems to pick these up really easily with the central trimmer bar (compared to the rotary which just pushes them around and then you have to resort to the dreadful trimmer on the Philips or the suspicious plastic razor on the edge of the bath).Dislikes: The plug doesn't stay in the wall... big bulky nasty thing... most other things plug into the shaver unit OK, but this seems to want to keep falling out. It also does sound a bit loud... bit like a sheep sheared, certainly louder than I thought it would be. The trimmer is slightly curved... that seems odd and I must admit.. it didn't trim that well. Also, I travel a lot (every week).. so I am constantly packing things in bags. The bag that this has will not last a long time, it really needs a case. The clip on guard is not really sufficient to protect the shaver (freak toothpaste or aftershave explosions in the washbag etc... yes it has happened).Overall: Its a nice shaver, reasonably good shave, has a few niggling issues (main one being the charger block which is why it lost a star). Would I recommend it, yes, I probably would. Found the shave to be slightly better than my rotary one, so I will keep on using it.Dislikes: [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

After receiving the shaver and using it once a day for the last three weeks rather amazingly its still on its first charge. I'm quite amazed at that. But still on to the actual shaver. The main thing really is, does it do a good job? well from normally wet shaving the answer is yes, if you bought and used this braun series 5 you wouldn't be dissapointed. It cuts pretty close, deals with slightly longer hairs with no great pulling feel and you get very little 5 o'clock shadow. The trimmer is good for small area's but if your removing a full beard then i wouldn't bother, it is just a trimmer. The adjustable head works well keeping the cutting edge at the correct angle. It feels like a well made shaver, not to heavy but nice and solid in your hand with a nice grip so yo dont feel like your going to drop it.Could i recommend this to other people? Well the answer is yes to put it simply.Would i have bought this one? Well i might have gone for the wet/dry version coming from more of a wet shave background but i am in no way dissapointed by this one.Would i buy it for someone else? Maybe, they are quite expensive but it certainly feels like it would last a long time.To sum up -Positives, long life on one charge, decent cut, feels nice and sturdy, looks good.Negatives? The instruction manual seems to cover the entire range leaving you a bit confused as to what your shaver will or wont do. Being someone who likes to grow a full beard every now and again i would have preferred a bigger trimmer but i can manage without it as it would have upset the overall design. I’ve never enjoyed shaving, and tend to leave it a couple of weeks before doing so as my skin normally breaks out as soon as a razor comes near it, even then I normally use a beard trimmer instead. With the Braun 5030s I have been able to shave every day and haven’t had a single problem! It felt smooth and glided over my skin easily, once Id perfected the technique of using it I found it a pleasure to use. You can change the head to pivot with the contours of your face, or lock them into one of 5 positions. I only used the locked position when doing my sideburns, other than that the “Flex MotionTec” was a major benefit. If like me you have slightly longer facial hair to start with I’d recommendusing the precision trimmer first as it didn’t deal with the long hair well and I felt a slight pulling. You can also use it to tidy up your moustache and side burns. The rubber grips made the razor comfortable to hold and use and you need them as it defiantly has a powerful BUZZ!! One downside to the 5030s is its weight; it’s a heavy bit of kit, but does feel well made and sturdy! The battery life is fantastic – can easily take it fully charged on a week’s holiday without the need of taking the charging cord, but if needed you can use it plugged in.The handy little travel case that comes included makes it easy to tidy away with the cleaning brush and lubricating oil meaning you won’t lose those little bits.Overall a great pleasure to use and will definitely be shaving more often, much to the delight of my wife! at last a shaver that works as it shouldi work in an industrial enviroment where the need to shave everyday is not a formality, (i usually have a shave every sunday or very special occasions by then i have a thick beard the wife loves, not)i have not had a wet shave since my wedding day (long time ago) and have used electric shavers mostly since i started shaving some 25 years agoSo the braun, opened the box firt thing i noticed was the size, its pretty big, and then the feel. it feels great, very solid and chunky but smooth.i put it on charge and had my first shave with it a few days lateri had a good week and a halfs solid scruffy growth by then i used the trimmer bit first on the thicker areas, around the chin etc no problems there and trimmed as expectednext to the shave and great it works a charm, a couple of runs over the cheeks and smooth as a babies bum certainly the closest shave i have had in a long time, the flexible head is perfect for neck and jawline areas, it was quick as well it cut smooth with usually two strokes and didnt struggle anywhere.have to say i am very inmpressed, wife was pleased with the finish as welleven better than that ive used it about four times now and its still on the first charge, i imagine if i shaved daily it would be as good as a wet shaveso top marks to braun i will never use another brand again [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

this review is for the braun series 5 5030s shaver.ok lets start with the out of the box experience.you get the shaver a charge cord ,user guide and a little bottle of lubricating oil(nice).being a long term user of braun shavers i knew roughly what to expect having used a series 3 wet/dry for the last year.ok the shaver itself has quite alot of rubber and you need it because this thing is powerful and the rubber helps your grip ,in fact ive never experienced such strong vibrations in a shaver.the major selling point of this shaver is the "flex motiontec " head which basically mean you can set it to move and tilt whilst you shave apparently to reach those nooks and crannies more easily.this is the one thing about this razor that wasnt for me ,i much prefered locking one of the 5 adjustable angles and using it in a traditional way ( just personal preference).now dont get me wrong this razor is a significant improvement on previous braun shavers ive owned with a very close shave and fast charging time its the best razor ive owned .you can clean the head with water and its waterproof to 5 metres.this shaver would be ideal for me without the swivvel head and im sure a lot of people will enjoy that particular feature.all in all an excellent shaver with added motiontec ( if you like that sort of thing)!!recommended. I have owned an electric shaver in the past and never really enjoyed the experience. I found that they only really worked well with a maximum of one or two days of growth at best and even then the hard to reach areas under the chin were always a real pain.I also found that they left my skin dry and irritable and so I always preferred a wet shave finding them easer, more efficient and with better results. So when my Braun Series 5 shaver arrived, I have to say, I wasn't holding out much hope of being impressed.I have to say, shaving technology has come on leaps and bounds in recent times!I had a weeks worth of stubble and braced myself for the pain but I was amazed to find that there we no nipping and tugging as I had experienced in the past. The shaver looked cool and was really easy to set up and use. There were no problems in terms of "tough spots" with the whole beard being smooth and soothed post shave. No stubble rash and no burning skin.It comes in a really nice black drawstring bag that makes carrying for holidays really easy as all of the kit (charging wires/cleaning fluid and cleaning brush) fit in nicely.I was prepared for the worst but I was very impressed and I am now a convert to electric shave over wet shave. I was fortunate enough to be given a braun series 5 5030s shaver to test and review. On its arrival I found the packaging eye-catching and easy to open. The shaver specifications highlighted on the box promised much re what the shaver could deliver. I was eager to test it out for myself.Upon removing the shaver unit from the box, I found it to have a sleek design. It's shape allows a good grip in your hand and the rubberised grip is a nice touch. After forcing myself to wait the required period to allow it to charge fully, I then put it through its paces against a fortnights worth of beard growth. The shaver provided a close shave which didn't disappoint. That said,I found it occasionally plucked at some hairs as opposed to cutting them- this probably due to the curved head of the shaver which doesn't give full contact between the blade and the facial area. That said, having used it several times since I'm more used to it and am very pleased with it. I would recommend this shaver to anyone looking to buy a quality shaver at a mid-range price. I've already recommended it to several friends and family. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was sceptical of the Braun Series 5 before it arrived, i'd tried electric razors before and been left a patchy, sore, mess of a man that had to finish the job with a traditional razor anyway, but as soon as this razor arrived I had a feeling I was about to be surprised. The Series 5 is reassuringly heavy, it feels like a good bit of kit, it looks good and it has a couple of extras to play with - my expectations had been raised.I let my stubble grow over the weekend before giving the razor a try and when I did I was delighted to see that I was getting a close shave instantly. The shave was close, my face wasn't ripped to shreads and it wasn't taking all day - so far, so good. There are a couple of negatives,I had to go over the usual trouble spots a few times and that's led to a bit of skin irritation, I don't think the little trimmer extension does much/anything, but these are minor issues. The Braun Series 5 is very, very good and something I would recommend to anyone looking for a razor in this price bracket - even to someone looking in the bracket above. Its been many years since I've had an electric shaver and the opportunity to try the new Braun was one I didn't want to turn down. The Braun name pulled me in and the product has kept me there! It feels good in your hand, light enough so its not a problem but robust enough so it feels sturdy for the job. The flexMotion Tec keeps the cut on the hard to get at places, under the chin and over the throat, no soreness, good precision and most of all a close shave. The convenience of this device has been a huge positive, easy to store, easy to use and charge, which incidentally it holds for a week of shaving. It is also very easy to clean which was one of my problems with shavers in the past but it can be wet cleaned and as a result feels more hygienic than others. The trimmer is easy to use and is kept well out of the way when not in use.Overall, this shaver is tip top leaving a smooth convenient shave without soreness or irritation, easy to use and maintain, well worth a buy and a must on the list for Christmas and birthdays for most men! I couldn't wait to try this shaver out when the postman delivered it, a 1 hour charge was most welcome as I was like a kid in a toy shop waiting to use it!! The box contained a handy bag for keeping all of the bits that came with it although I've personally only used it to store the cleansing items and charging cable in. You get a little brush for cleaning inside the head and a small pot of lubricating oil to run on the head should you use the warm water cleaning method which pretty much involves running it under a hottish tap for 30'seconds or so, personally I just clip of the head and tap all the stubble out, a quick blow and it's ready to go again.I've not used an electric shaver for years as I've always suffered from a horrendous rash either side of my Adam's apple, used this shaver everyday for the last few days and not a rash to be seen!! To say I'm impressed is an understatement, the shave is as close if not closer than a wet shave.Great item that I would recommend to anyone with sensitive skin like myself. I have been a "wet" shaver for years as previously when I have used an electric shaver I felt the closeness of the shave was poor, however, this shaver has changed my views. This shaver is well made and can be held easily, it has a shaver head that can be locked in position or unlocked to allow it to follow the contours of your face. There is a sideburns trimmer facility which extends up and is useful but to be honest not essential for me.I have used this now every day since it arrived and it certainly makes shaving easier. Gone are the days of shaving foam and cut chins, this shaver allows me to be ready so much quicker which I think the majority will probably agree is a good thing as shaving every day is one of the most boring tasks that a bloke has to do.Would I recommend this shaver? Most definitely yes. I can't compare it to other dry shavers but against my wet razors this shave is as close if not closer and is done in less than half the time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I, like others, was sceptical to say the least about another electric razor, I myself gave up on them many year's ago, after being left patched and sour, and finishing the job the traditional way.To my surprise, on receiving the series 5, the build quality seems second to none, feel confident and reassuring in the hand.I now wish I'd of thought of doing a before and after pic, as I'd left my stubble to grow for three or for days, maybe to prove the series 5 wasn't upto the job, how wrong I was.I was left with a smooth, comfortable, pain free skin, with a close shave that lasts, and a timer that fits perfect and dose an equally good job.If this is your first electric razor I can't see why you would ever try another, and if you've been shaving year's and need something new in your life, here it is, braun may aswell of invented the concept of CLEAN shaven.First class, and I'd recommend the series 5 to anyone looking for a shaving revelation. I was incredibly excited when my bzz package arrived and was not disappointed, the razor looks premium and substantial. I was a little surprised by the size because my last electric razor was over 15 years ago and was a third of the size in comparison.I charged the product for about 2 hours and tested the noise levels - very loud, which to me is good as suggests it has more power.I usually have a beard and decided that I would tr and shave straight onto the 2 week beard growth, I will admit I was a little nervous but the razor did a great job. It may be wasn't as close as a wet shave but that is probably more down to me not really knowing how to use the product. On further usage the razor did a sterling job on a par with a wet shave and leaves no irritation which is incredible. My only reason for not giving a higher mark is because the dock shown on the box was not actually included with the product which I found a little bit of a shame.
