I think the first thing that I need to say is that this isn't a bad game. It's just... not really a very good game either, though if you are a fan of Bleach then it's still a decent enough buy, just for the extra story you get in the Bleach universe.Gameplay is really what lets the game down the most. It's a very basic SRPG, which is a shame as being released on the DS only puts it into competition with other SRPGs like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, and this game just pales in comparison. The battle system is incredibly slow, from the amount of steps you can move per turn, to the amount of time it takes for the game to respond to commands. The game uses the rock paper scissors method of advantages, with characters being Speed, Tech or Power. There are some special abilities that can be used also, and a small equip subsystem too. Most of the time you'll just be waiting for the enemies to get close enough and then killing them. However, outside of battles there is 'Free Time' mode, where you have to converse with characters in order to move Kon along in a type of 'get to the end' game. The best part of this is the conversations, as you learn more about whichever characters you choose to talk to.Graphics aren't brilliant, but they're far from terrible, and aren't really all that important on a handheld game. Cutscenes and conversations are drawn in the anime style and as such look as good as you'd expect. The battleground graphics are just basic sprites of the characters, and the attack graphics look much the same as the fighting graphics in the previous games on the DS.Sound is also an area that the game is let down in. The music is quite boring, and the lack of a Japanese voice option means the voices can start to grate after a while too, especially if you are used to watching the subbed version of the anime.Story wise the game is actually pretty good. It was written by Tite Kubo, and whilst it doesn't fit neatly into the canon from the manga/anime, it still contains most of the plot points that have happened so far, in relation to when the game is set. In fact, the only real difference is that a character added for the game takes the place of a captain that should be there according the the canon timeline. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. To not spoil anything, you follow the two main protagonists, twin 'soul reapers' as they fight Hollow and try to stop a devious plot. You meet a lot of familiar faces on the way and get a lot of backstory for some of the secondary characters. All in all, as a game in it's own right, it doesn't really stand up to what a game should be like today, and especially when you enter the domain of SRPGs, you have to have a battle system that is at least on par with games made several years ago. However, for a person buying this game due to being a fan of Bleach, it's actually pretty good.
