Despite seeing photo of jacket on listing I was expecting fluffy type of fabric I usually picture when someone says fleece But this jacket is actually smooth fabric and very very thin ( see photo) I wasn’t sure this would be any good at keeping you warm? But in interests of testing I wore this over a thin sweater when I went to shops on cold January morning in London and when first walked out I was shivering but by time reached shop felt not hot but definitely no longer cold ???? It really does work at keeping heat in and I imagine if worn over warmer thicker jumper or layered under another jacket you would be quite snug .The jacket itself is top quality made and finished really well andeverything made to high standards. Its comes with a lifetime guarantee so wouldn’t really expect anything less. There are 2 zipped side pockets and pockets are very deep and could hold a lot if needed. The zip on front of jacket can pull up very high to make hood tight fitting and protect face from wind and cold.It says you can buy waterproof overjackets that zip over this to make fleece waterproof.I was initially surprised how thin this jacket is but despite this it does keep you warm and when you think about people and places this jacket was originally made for the lack of weight and bulk would be a great asset if packing for adventure or journey to some colder climates. The sizing is good.

I have a Berghaus coat already and I prefer it over my much more expensive North Face jacket so already had high hopes for this one. I must admit that I didn't really rate it from the pictures before it arrived but am happy to admit that I have been proven wrong. Not normally something I would go for has questioned my taste of online clothes and that something can look far better on and in the flesh than pictures show online. This jacket is incredibly comfortable, personally I normally go for a medium size however the large is also a really nice fit. The jacket is thin however the material which is so nice to the touch does a fantastic job in keeping you warm.During the bad winds and weather yesterday (perfect for testing the jacket) it did a fantastic job of keeping me dry and warm, I was tempted to put another coat on over but as it wasn't freezing this did a pretty good job. The hood comes up and as the product pictures show stays close to your face again keeping it warm and also keeps the high winds at bay.The stitching is near enough perfect, I had the odd loose bit of material sticking out however this did not cause any issues.I am honoured to test such a fantastic product and if I was to purchase it I would be more than happy. I easily award this full marks and should you have any questions please do ask (I reply to all questions)

At first glance, this Berghaus Men’s Spitzer Hooded Fleece Jacket may seem simple, perhaps aesthetically too simple. However, after using this for over a week now, I can now see what the hype is about when it comes to Berghaus clothing. This fleece jacket is surprisingly light and thin, yet it offers great protection from ice cold winds and even some protection from light rain. I love the simple charcoal grey colour of this fleece, it goes well with the white embroided Berghaus logo, and I’ve had many compliments since wearing this. It’s very comfortable to wear too, and also offers two pockets (although expected) zip up well and helped keep my belongings such as my phone or keys safe and sound (even during exercises/treks).I love the hood too, it creates this turtleneck effect when not in use, providing neck protection from the winter elements especially. Overall, I am very happy with this fleece jacket, it fit perfectly well on me. I got a L and typically wear a M/L and it was absolutely fine. Certainly worth the (current) £43.99 price tag as the quality seems very good and I’m sure will last a very long time.Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)

A fair sized large. It isn’t overly long in the body but does reach just below the waist band of trousers on a 5’11 man. It’s quite thin but great quality and does provide warmth as either a light top layer or a base layer underneath other things such as a gilet or a thick padded jacket. It doesn’t add unnecessary bulk and is lightweight and easy to carry should you wish to hold it or roll it up and put it in a bag. It’s the high quality you’d expect from Berghaus with a lovely soft fleece lining and tidy stitching throughout. The zips work smoothly and haven’t had any mishaps or got stuck on any other material on the way up/down.The zip pockets are a brilliant addition as they make any small belongings such as keys /phone / cash perfectly secure while walking or cycling. The hood is a scuba-type fit meaning it comes up and over your head to cover the top and side parts of your face and your neck to keep you warmer. It works well when paired with a scuba-fit North Face coat.Would definitely recommend this and it’s fairly priced too!

I've used many fleeces over the past 30 or so years - can't remember the last time I used a pullover. There has been a fairly steady progress in design and effectiveness in that time. However this garment seems more of a quantum leap than any previous ones. This is very light and remarkably effective. It is also very comfortable to wear. In temperatures in single figures and with just a t-shirt on it was warm enough.I'd like to see some more interesting colours available but that is a frequent complaint as far as I am concerned with outdoor clothing for men. More importantly the large fitted me like a glove when I would usually find clothing to be a little loose. Equally it is not long in the back. These points plus the Berghaus price means I'm reluctant to give this 5 stars but 4.5 would be ok.UpdateI've worn this jacket for much of a week now while travelling on the continent. It is very comfortable and lightweight. I would seriously consider buying one of this type of jacket/fabric for myself now.

This is a fleece lined jacket rather than a fleece overall. The outer is a slightly shiny tracksuit style fabric, the lining is a very fine waffle-textured fleece. Despite the two layers, the whole garment is very thin, making it perfect for layering. Thanks to the two layers, despite the thinness this jacket is really very warm. The fleece has good quality metal zips for both the main closure and on the outer pockets. These pockets are nicely spacious, as are the two mesh pockets built in to the lining. The stitching is nice and neat. The sizing is perhaps a little ungenerous when it comes to width, but runs on the longer side for both the overall jacket length and the sleeves. On my 5’8” usual size Large wearing Dad, this was a little clingy around the tummy, a bit long in the body, and the sleeves came down part-way over his hands. Nothing fit so badly that he can’t wear this, and it’s perfect for layering under his gilet – his outerwear garment of choice when driving and gardening in the Winter.

To me a fleece is made of that fuzzy Polartec material, which this is not. This is much thinner and looks on the outside more akin to tracksuit fabric, though in fact it's more advanced. It is somewhat warm, but it's not really a thermal layer, more something you wear between a base layer and a thermal later. The build quality is what you'd expect form Burghaus; very good, with flatstiched seams throughout. Zips are YKK and all have toggles on them for use with gloves. The Burghaus branding is a simple print though, which I can see coming off after a few washes.Fit is relaxed and there is no adjustment to the hemline, hood or wrists. One criticism I have is that it is described as being 'interactive'in that you can zip it into a Burghaus interactive jacket. I have a Burghaus Highland Ridge jacket, and you can, but only the main zip, not the arms. Which makes it pointless, because you can't take both garments off as a single garment. The weight of a Large is 376g.

This is a smart looking top (I have the black grey pinstripe) with a smooth outside and very soft fleecy inside. It is very thin and light (it is not a thick winter fleece), so it is good to have as an additional layer for outdoor activities. The sleeves do seem slightly long for the size large which I have, but not a major issue. I really like the extremely large, zipped pockets which could be used to keep your hands warm if you wanted to or for safely storing a variety of items. The hood fits nicely and will not slip off, nor is it too tight. When zipped up the collar is quite high so will keep your neck warm. The label says that you can easily zip into an ‘Interactive waterproof outer’ if it rains but I do not currently have one of those to try that out.It is an extremely comfortable close-fitting top. I can particularly see myself having this with me for walks in warmer weather, when there may be a cool breeze or sudden chill.

This is not our first Berghaus and if initially I was always asking why on Earyh it was so expensive, now I know that it is not the type of garment that is just comfy, sporty, well-made, functional as can be, but it is literally the garment that is designed to last a lifetime...or longer! I actually still have a jacket that used to belong to my older sister and is literally older than I am! Literally! This hoodie has all the Berghaus qualities! It is uber comfy, will not make you sweat , will protect you from the elements but will not allow you to sweat! It is very lovely on your skin and is uber well made!If you are after style, then you may find this a bit plain, but if you are after quality and comfort - there it is!Just click BUY NOW!Sizewise - we normally go for medium, this is large and it fits perfectly well, still abit of room for a T-shirt and maybe a vest, if you wanted to layer up.Highly recommended!

It's currently January and where I live the temperatures have been dropping to about 5-6 degrees. This is very much an autumn jacket, but I've been wearing it underneath a coat as a second layer and it's actually made a huge difference in keeping me warm when out walking the dog. It's a nice enough material, fairly soft but still durable and quick drying. It's very lightweight, and actually warmer than you'd think considering the thickness. The shape of it is great as you'd expect from a make like this, no sagging or flappy sleeves, just a well-fitting garment. The hood is perhaps a tiny bit tight, but that depends on the size of your head and length of your neck.Overall there's not too much I can say other than it fits more than correctly, looks great, keeps me warm under a coat in the winter and would work great as an autumn jacket.

The sizing is right for large - the arms might be a bit tight though if I was trying to get this over two layers rather than one, but having said that if I was wearing a jumper over my shirt I might not be requiring this as well. It looks very smart, and the zips and stitching all look high quality. You get two generously sized zip pockets at the side. It's very lightweight and extremely comfortable. Because it's quite thin it's certainly not a deep winter item - when I went out today in temperatures of supposedly 5°C according to the forecast, it wasn't enough to keep me sufficiently warm - so it's more a spring/autumn item, and even summer to keep off the windchill if you are up exposed hills,or sunnier winter days than today. It should be pointed out that it's not waterproof. It will fold up small for sticking in a bag.

Another great designed jacket which is perfect for a base/under layer especially through the winter. The inside of this is different to any ive personally worn, its almost like a waffled texture thats very soft and a flocked material.2 large outside zipped pockets and all zips run smooth and lay flat which i would expect from good quality. Nothing worse than when zips seem to have an 's' bend in them.Hood is light and more of a fitted design. Covers forehead and moulds around the face and chin area when jacket isn fully zipped up.Back is longer to provide good coverage and wind protection.Overall fit i would say is suited to either sex as both me and my partner wear this even though is is labelled menswear.Beautiful charcoal grey colour.Very impressed with the warmth it provides alone. Highly recommended!

My son who wears a medium usually in a jacket ,found this to be quite slim fitting and for him a little uncomfortable because of this, purely because he's used to a baggy fit and not in any way due to the jacket itself, it's still hung in his wardrobe and does get worn, just not frequently, but if you like the slim fit feel then it'd be great for you.We don't usually go for Berghaus, feeling they always tended towards the older gent but this jacket is vey versatile due to the style and in my opinion would suit both young and older alike. It is well made and a nice thick but not too hot material, just quality clothing.I would recommend ,it's a nice jacket and i can see it being handy fr the younger son before long so can't complain and a good price for what it is.Arrived well packaged and on time.

Berghous products never disappoints me. They always well-made and high quality just like this hooded fleece jacket, it’s soft, warm, and comfy. I’ve got the Jet Black/Grey colour which is attractive and can be worn with almost any colour of jeans of sweatpants. It’s also available in 4 more colours, probably my second favourite is the Rifle green. It is well sized; I’ve got the Large and fits me perfectly. Can be worn in any season, it keeps body heat inside when it's cold and snowy or just on a windy autumn day for extra warmth. I love the zippered pockets as well, great for putting my phone or my keys inside when I'm going for running. Having the hood is a big plus too. So far I’m very pleased with this fleece,I’m seriously thinking to buy one in green. Great value for the money

I ordered this as it is large, but it is much too tight for me. I am over 6ft and a normal build, the arms were much too tight, and I couldn't zip it up at all. My wife, who is a size 14 tried it on, and although the sleeves fit well and she could zip it up, it was very tight round the waist. Next my size 12 teenager old tried it on, and finally we found someone it fits. So, I certainly wouldn't call it large! It is beautifully made, and amazingly warm for such lightweight fabric. The lining is very soft, like velvet and the zip is strong. It is a lovely garment which is perfect to pack in a bag and get out when it gets chilly so you don't have to lug around a big heavy jacket. But be warned and order a larger size than you normally would as the sizing is not very generous.
