After playing the previous Atgames Mega Drive in Hawkins Bazaar only a few days previous to getting this, I was unsure as to ordering it or not. If you don't know, the previous Atgames Mega Drive [81 games and Wired Controllers, no HD version] was not the best. It felt awfully cheap and tacky, worse than this one, had terrible slowdown on music and sounds in the games and as it had no HD, only AV, it looked disgusting on a HD TV so you really needed an old CRT TV to escape the blurred vision. It also had about 40 'fake' games inbuilt which were.....awful..This version however, corrects a lot of those issues. First off its HD and comes with the HDMI lead so problem solved visually. You can even turn scanlines on/off for a more authentic look on games if you wish. Secondly it actually looks like a Mega Drive, and although it still feels cheap and light it is the best looking version so far. The pads are light and not the best, but they function well will no lag unlike the previous Atgames wireless Mega Drives!Unfortunately it comes [well mine did] with a European power supply so you will need an adaptor [I used my shaving adaptor with no issues] and also it does not have an SD card slot on the side like some reviews have said it does, I even saw one on Youtube showing this off....which makes me think there are 2 versions of this....but they are not labelled differently in any way which is VERY odd...Onto the games, they all work fine with seemingly no lag, glitches or slowdown [the only one i had a bit of issues with in terms of response time was Chakan] which is great. The choice of games is so-so though. It includes Sonic 1, 2, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3D along with a few 'additional' sonic games from the Game Gear, but does not include Sonic 3 oddly... The Golden Axe trilogy is here as well as the first 4 Phantasy Stars and 3 Shining games which means RPG goodness is here to be found. Again though, this is countered by some glaring omissions such as Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition, Rock'n'Roll Racing and the Streets of Rage trilogy meaning some of the very best games on the console are not here, and with no expansion port to loads your own ROMs, if you want to play these games on your console you will have to fork out literally hundreds of pounds on ebay...not ideal! We do get Mortal Kombats 1-3 and Eternal Champions [which is still very hard all these years later!] aswell as the stylish Comix Zone too. You do get a chunk of the typical Atgames Master System games too which inlcude the still highly playable Alex Kidd in Miracle World and The Ninja. All in all it is generally very good, mainly hindered by the fact some of the best games on the console are not here, but people who own the SNES mini could same the same thing and they have no way to play additional games on those at all... I wouldn't pay the £80 though, it a bit steep for its cheapy feeling [mine was £45], but its all a matter of opinion really... You can have 2 player fun on lots of the games and it reminds us of how far games have come since the Mega Drives era so it is worth a bash in my eyes!

Even though I didn’t get my system from amazon I just thought I’d write a review as I hear so much negative feeling toward this system. The first one I got was a 2017 model ( as shown in most of the customer pics ) the differences can be quite subtle between the 2017 and 2018-19 models , the main way to tell is that the old (2017) model has the AT games logo in white as well as the mega drive logo by the cartridge slot, also there is no h/set volume slider moulding (which is just a dummy) by the power slider. The difference between the two generations is quite substantial and although I really enjoyed my 2017 model and it even got me collecting original mega drive games oom cartridge the temptation of having the sd card slot on the later models was just too tantalising.I was lucky and managed to swap my older model for a newer version and wow I mean WOW. This newer version loads so much faster with far superior emulation (tho tbh I never noticed any real probs with the first one it was only after) I got an sd card from ebay which gave me access to the full library of mega cd, mega drive, master system and gamegear. Not only that it outputs them at a crisp 720p and even allows me to save them. Also this system allows me to use all the original controllers, so I bought a arcade power stick and the reason I’m here is to pre order the retro bit 6 button controller. All in all I haven’t seen any other retro consoles that offers so many options to enjoy this superb old platform. Regardless of what others say I really love my AT games system.

We received this game for Christmas and we Love it. A few updated facts for the new 2018 console. It DOES have an SD card slot for saving game progress. We have an 8gb card plugged in, although it says it would take up to 32gb, but can’t imagine you’d need anything that big. Secondly, the controllers...... you do not need a micro screwdriver to put the batteries in, it is just a clip which you squeeze and the cover comes off. The HDMI cable that came with it is a bit cheap so we have got a better quality one, which does make a difference, considering it is HD. The controller blue “on” light is very bright, and when playing it sometimes flashes in your eyes, but we have just put a small sticker over it.On a final note, i understand that this is not an “Official” Sega Retro flashback console, and they are planning a 2019 release. I can only hope they include the better Sega games like Outrun and Afterburner! These were my best games in the Arcade, and although this console does have a Cartridge slot, i am not sure i want to pay £50 for an Outrun cartridge! Overall, this is a Bargain machine, not quite up to Nintendo standard, but like i said earlier, this not an official machine, so we can only hope Sega comes through with a new console this year! :-)

Great console loads of Sega games in HD, plus save & rewind works on carts as well, i bought mine from Argos as they sell them for £79.99 don't pay more to con men, plus you can change everything from controller no reaching over to machine like Mini SNES & NES. Update machine crashed playing Phantasy Star 4 in caves and would not work also carts are a bit hit & miss, i returned it and got Sega Megadrive collection for Xbox 360 it has better sound and screen options plus the Streets of Rage collection on it, get that instead as it's only £14.99 on Amazon, graphics much better than this console.Going to order another 1 in case i got broken console before, then will update again, the big sell is the rewind feature as i completed Rambo 3 cart and have lots of carts it works with, no problems with 2nd console if picking any of the AT-Games Mega Drive consoles, go for this 1 its a big improvement over the other ones, as rewind feature and save anytime works from controller you can even change the games straight from the controller.

Out of the box it's not quite plug in and play as the wireless controllers require AAA batteries (not supplied) and you need a screwdriver to access their battery compartments. This small gripe aside, once up and running it was pleasantly easy to use.The selection of games is good if not quite comprehensive and includes some Master System and Game Gear titles as well as a few shovelware titles. The built in games run fine with little or no noticeable lag with the supplied controllers although they do feel a little cheap.I tested the cartridge slot with a Japanese copy of Devil Crash ( the only cart I own) and that worked absolutely fine.Overall I'm pleased with the product, though rechargeable controllers and the ability to add more games would have been nice.I have noticed that a few customer reviews state that a U.K. adapter plug is not supplied but the one I purchased did?

Just FYI.. Bought mine at argos. Stunned that this has such a low overall rating. I remember playing these games somewhere in the region of 30 years ago. As soon as the music starts you immediately remember being a kid. Graphics wise, remember this is nostalgia so it is exactly as you remember, kinda poor given what we are treated to by today's standards. That quickly becomes a non issue. You just stop noticing. Bit disappointed this did not come with california games included, but here's the best bit.... You can play your old cartridges in this thing. Genius! Mine came with normal UK plug, but as mentioned before I got mine elsewhere.

Let's get a few things sorted out first.... this product is licensed by Sega and not made by them. The controller suffers from lag so probably best to use a 6 button wired one (not three)Also the power brick that comes with the unit is European so you need to buy either adapter for it or a new dc adapter, I recommend that you buy an European-UK one (like if some from Europe visits the UK and they bring a plug so their stuff works here or buy a electric toothbrush adapter) The system is good, it's not perfect and will allow to enjoy the console.

This console is a vast improvement on the standard definition version: Brighter colour and HD display, sound quality is much better, and better run time. The fact that the games are organised into different categories makes it easier to select than having to go down one by one. I don't know why they kept the crappy flash games on here, but at least that category is ignored ? Plus, saving the game really tops it all. I know this has been given mixed reviews, but it's up there with the snes mini, and a hell of a lot better than the PS1 classic!

Value for money though you will need to by a UK travel adapter for it to work as it ships with a euro one. Some of the games do look a bit blocky however having never owning the original console on first release i cannot say if the graphics on Sega's original unit are the same or better. I have not tried the cart slot yet so cannot comment, and you will need 4x AAA batteries for the controllers to work. Once you get hang of the menu system the unit plays fine.

Got mine this morning for Christmas and it is brilliant ?it has a load of megadrive games on it (including most Sonic games) and also some master system and game gear games invluding Alex Kidd in Miracle world and Shinobi world ?I also purchased Aladdin on megadrive cart seperatley and it works perfectly ?this is a great Christmas present for retro Sega gaming fans ?thank you ?

22.4.2018

The picture due to the HD is brilliant. This does come with a euro plug so you’ll need an adapter. The games aren’t that great but the cartridge slot is awesome so getting your old favourite games should be easy.Make sure you read the instructions for the cartridge slot use.All in all it’s amazing to play all the old games is high def.The controllers are a great size.

So i writing a review for one i bought from Argos, i paid £32.99 for it and it was worth every penny, im not sure why there is so many negative comments, easy to set up, pretty much plug and play, and it has a cartridge slot so i dug out all my old games and they work perfectly! you can rewind and save! PERFECT! its honestly worth the money so ignore the negative comments

This product is what we expected. My daughter got it as part of her Christmas & is delighted with it. I had read some reviews saying the wireless controllers were poor but this is certainly not our experience, we have had no issues with either the controller's or the console. My daughter says she likes the retro console better than the modern ones.

This is a great machine. Works perfectly with my old Megadrive cartridges. We do have an old original Megadrive, which does not work well with new TVs, hence why we purchased this. This has a much better picture than the old Megadrive, and runs smoothly. 100% recommended if you want to tap into the that nostalgia vibe.

6.8.2018

Great little piece, mine came with a EU adaptor too despite ordering in the UK (hence the 4 stars). The fact that this comes with wireless controllers (which have excellent response times by the way) and has the option to take old cartridges makes it highly superior to the NES or SNES.
