Nintendo Switch Lite reviewI believe that ingenious Nintendo engineers predicted that Switch will be the only serious gaming handheld console after PS Vita’s retirement.I am an experienced gamer starting who began his gaming adventure back in 1992 with my first NES console.I usually do not play on mobile phones as the vast majority of games offered there are too shallow to keep me interested for longer than several hours. What can I tell about Nintendo Switch Lite after nearly 1 year of use?4 words will suffice: Best ever handheld consoleNintendo Switch Lite is a sister console to “big” Switch. The difference is clear – both in console itself and also in price. Switch Lite is a handheld only console. It does not offer an option to play on TV screen. The console itself is slightly bigger than a 200g chocolate bar and measures approx:Width: 8.1-8.2 inch,Height: 3.5-3.6 inch,Depth: 0.5 inch.Switch Lite has a 5.5” 720p (HD) display which is an optimal choice for this size of console and does not drain the battery instantly.Specifications wise:- CPU/GPU: nVidia Tegra based custom chip- RAM: 4GB LPDDR4- Storage: 32GB eMMC memory- Addtitional storage: accepts microSD/HC/XC memory cards, up to 2TB capacity- Connectivity: Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards), Bluetooth 4.1, USB-C, standard 3.5mm headphone socket- Input devices: built-in (integrated) controller, capacitive touch screen, supports external controllers- Battery: 3570 mAh- Speakers: built-in stereo speakers- Games delivery: custom Nintendo cartridges and digital eShop purchasesHow is Switch Lite in real use? It’s one of the best handheld consoles ever made, if not the best. Upgraded hardware allowed for new generation games being developed on it and also allowed for some spectacular conversions from other platforms (like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in example).Switch Lite and “big” Switch share the same games catalogue and there is no difference in CPU/GPU/RAM between them. There are several exemptions, games which won’t work with Switch Lite due to handheld only built but 99% of games work with absolutely no issues.Battery wise: Built in battery allows for 3-7 hours of play, depending on the complexity of the game of course.Would I recommend Switch Lite?If you are looking for hanheld console – 100% yes. Switch Lite is 30% cheaper than “big” Switch and shares the 99% of game catalogue. There is no reason to buy a big Switch then, in fact, Switch Lite offers better battery life than a “big” Switch in handheld modeIf you want to play mainly in TV mode and handheld mode is only an addition – then buy “big” Switch, but be prepared for a lot higher price to pay.Overall score: 10/10 – for amazing gaming experience which you can take everywhere you go.Please feel free to have a look at pictures attached (Switch Lite shown is in a transparent protective case).

I loved the idea of the Nintendo Switch - being able to have a portable gaming console that also docked to your TV. But there were several disadvantages to it: It was just too big to use as a personal pocket games console. It was fine for putting on a table and sharing with friends, but too large to stick in your pocket and go. It was also another ecosystem. Another set of games that you had to buy in adittion to Nintendo DS games which were truly portable. But it was a good alround gaming platform and an ideal replacement for the Wii as a family TV-based console with occasional portable use eg on holiday.Nothing could touch the DS consoles for portability though. Until now.It is a shame that the DS is on it's way out. But for those that have made an investment in to the Switch ecosystem, the Switch Lite is excellent news. You get a portable gaming experience that is almost as portable as the DS, but with graphics and gameplay that is much better. But the real bonus is that now you only need to buy one set of games! When the next major game comes out you no longer need to buy one for the Switch and one for the DS, you just buy the one game and you can play it in the house on the Switch, or on the go on the Switch Lite. It's about time Nintendo had one ecosystem of games and hardware. The Switch was a good attempt and to a certain extent, it works. But now you have the option of the Switch Lite for the true hand held mobile experience without replacing your titles. As a console, I actually prefer it. I think the 720p screen looks more vivid on the 5.5" Lite screen than it does on the 6.2" Switch screen. The battery life is better. I actually like that the controls are fixed and not removable. They were a bit fiddly and flimsy on the Switch and the Lite is, afterall, a true portable gaming console. Rumble has been removed, but to be honest, it was pretty rubbish anyway so that is no loss. The gameplay and graphics are much better than anything the DS series could offer. So I think Nintendo have played a blinder here. If you are a casual gamer who games at home or socially, get the Switch. If you want something to play on your own, get the Switch Lite. If you already have a Switch in the house, get the Switch Lite and you can play the same games. We now have a Switch hooked up to the family TV and both of my kids have a Switch Lite each. As long as they are prepared to share the game titles, they can all play their own thing in their own time. It's a brilliant idea and a true pockatable replacement for the Nintendo DS.BTW, not sure why each of the 3 colours at the release date show as seperate items and why the grey one has a lower score than the yellow or torquise one since they are all the same console. Maybe Amazon want's to take a look at that and have one listing with 3 colour options rather than 3 seperate listings!

I’ve had the original Switch since day one. I’ve loved the platform for many many reasons, mainly because Nintendo seem to just be on the ball again with that old school magic. So many awesome games. Why did I buy the lite when I have the original? Well, 90% of the time I would play mine in handheld mode. I don’t have kids yet and only used Dock mode when playing Mario Kart with the wife or friends. Other than that, it’s train commute, flights and chilling on the sofa being lazy. The Lite is the perfect handheld mode Switch, I prefer the design, the feel and the screen. The library of games as well is excellent and I really feel like I have the first truly modern Game Boy replacement with a great selection of classic games, new indie games and AAA Nintendo originals like Breathe of the Wild.I love playing family friendly games like Mario Kart or Monkey ball with the original in Dock mode. Then using the Lite as MY OWN dedicated space to focus on completing adventure like Links Awakening or Celeste, in my personal mind space. It stays in my bag and goes everywhere I go.I’m removing one star from an otherwise glowing review because I think it’s a mistake to not have any TV out functionality. I understand it’s handheld only and out of the box, I don’t think it should have it. But, there should be the option to. The original Switches modular approach to every use case was perfect. £280 for a handheld and a dock when needed. The dock sells for £80-100 on its own, so in theory, if Nintendo did a normal switch without the dock, it should retail for £199. There is £50 android smartphones that have the capability to do HDMI out, so why has Nintendo removed this entirely from the Switch Lite? Have it as an optional extra. Not expecting it out of the box for £199, but let us buy a dock to turn it into the TV out mode, even if it’s a more expensive dock. Yes, I’ll have to buy a pro pad or Joycons (already have them), but give us that option. Yes, it was fine to reduce the cost but we didn’t get that saving passed onto us folks. By RRps, removing the HD Rumble, the Dock, the L and R Joycons was enough to reduce the RRP by £80. So, for this reason I am left disappointed with Nintendo’s decision. Will it sell like hot cakes? Absolutely? Am I a niche who feels this way? Very likely. But if you’re a family who want to buy this and then opt in the future for the Dock mode at a later date, you will have to buy a whole new console. Unless of course, Nintendo make a Dock mode only version that isn’t portable in anyway.

I've always been a big fan of Nintendo handhelds, the original Gameboy leading with Pokemon, the Gameboy Advance with gems like Golden Sun and Advance Wars, the DS smashing it with Phoenix Wright and Elite Beat Agents, finally the 3DS and marvels like Bravely Default.I did'nt jump on the Switch bandwagon immediately as I decided to wait (and wait) until Nintendo released the 'improved' version of the Switch - finally with the lite I could wait no longer (that and Pokemon Sword/Shield are around the corner). The Switch Lite makes an interesting appearance, I do quite like the lurid turquoise colour, its plastic construction is light but solid - it rests easily enough in two hands and the controls feel good.Sound output is quite strong (considering) but you will almost always want to use headphones from the top mounted jack (seems a strange place to put it, the bottom would make more sense). As per a lot of other reviews - no in-built blue-tooth compatibility.Supplied with a fairly bulky USB-C charger, a typical evening of gaming (say 2 or so hours) reduces the battery down to 50% usually. Games like Super Smash Bros, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade 2 look amazing on the screen, puts down my beloved Vita, that's for sure. (never forget the Sony memory-card gate - a superb hari-kiri ever committed by corporation). On the topside of the Switch there are slots for the Micro-SD card and game cartridges, a large memory card is a great idea (think 100gb +) if you are looking to download games, but otherwise the 32gb (or so) of inbuilt memory is plenty for a dozen game cartridges or more. There are certainly times I wish I could dock it into the TV and see games in full screen, but the switch lite is ideal for lunch breaks, travelling and when the other half assumes direct control of the TV. Its a lovely console, sometimes its handheld limitations seem to hold it back, the tiny text for Fire Emblem, the slightly downgraded visuals in certain games and so forth - but on the whole I am really excited to explore the best the Switch has to offer! One minor point - Nintendo games are expensive as anything, picking up four or so games will easily set you back over £160 potentially, the online shop typically adding a £10 premium to most games. Nintendo can charge what they want of course - but do bear this in mind.Suggest Starter Games - Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Karts 8, Zelda Breath of the WildOther Good Picks - Bayonetta 2, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Astral Chain

I absolutely love my Nintendo switch lite console!I purchased it here on Amazon as it was pretty much sold out elsewhere & amazon was the 1st retailer to have the full selection of colours back in stock, & at an unbeatable price. I am a regular Amazon customer, & as this was a 'bigger' buy, & was to be delivered, based on my experiences with my usual Amazon deliveries, I trusted Amazon to deliver this not only promptly (which was great, on next day prime delivery), but also safely. It arrived speedily, & was well packaged & fully boxed as brand new & unopened, as it should be. The console box includes the lite console itself, & also includes the official Nintendo mains charger, which I think is the 'C ' USB cable (not the standard mini USB, but the slightly wider one which is used to charge Samsung tablets & Samsung phones)((these wider charging cables can be easily purchased separately, here on Amazon, or in a number of high street shops)), so with the charger included, it just needs to be fully charged prior to its 1st use. This console was simple to set up, & connect to WiFi, - though WiFi is NOT needed, & with this lite console, it DOESNT require pairing with a TV either, like the regular Switch console does, as this is a HANDHELD console. I know that most do have WiFi nowadays, & downloadable games are available on this console, alike its regular console, however, still, not everyone has access to WiFi, so 1 huge advantage of this console is that it can be used without having to connect up to a TV or WiFi. The console itself is sleek & easy to hold, with a touchscreen, & it is all in one, - the two joycon controllers which are removable & replaceable on the regular switch, is completely built into this lite console as a whole, so is a good solid console. It also has a game card slot, for physical games, a micro SD card slot, and has a headphone jack too.I've owned both the regular switch console, as well as this lite console, & I have to say that I much prefer this lite console.I would deffo purchase again in future, & from here on Amazon, & I would deffo highly recommend ?I hope you have found this review to be useful, ? x

Well, I’ve played this for a few hours on Mario Odyssey and I love the size and compactness of this console. It’s also much lighter and doesn’t heat up as much as my docked Switch, which I appreciate. The motion still works on the Switch Lite and games don’t recognise the difference when giving you control instructions. The touch screen works like a dream too.You don’t lose too much in noticeable size either I found. In fact I think it feels lighter, more compact and easier to hold.No drifting issues with the joy keys. The yellow is a nice individual touch too.I think this console will suit casual gamers more, children whom are staring out on consoles as well.It still feels like a sturdy console too.A great way for gaming on the go without the added accessories to take with you.I love it and think this is one great console and well worth the money.Recommended indeed!Update: 5th January 2020.Thought I would update this review because a significant amount of time has passed.Well a few people have moaned about Roaming joy-cons and I still have haven’t had an issue.I also now own a black Switch Lite (One for me and my son) and no issues on either.I’d say just be gentle with them. I also think the issue is being overplayed by some, but that is opinion and not fact.End of the day, I think there will be more Switch Lites without problems compared to the latter. Thanks for reading.Update...Again! 15th May 2020.Well, still no issue with the joy-cons on this model.Still seems to be playing fine.It seems like a small, small percentage have the drift, but I’m happy to say mine hasn’t...the likelihood of you getting a drifting joy can is very slim.I’d say just be gentle and they should be fine. Also, if the joy-cons do roam then please contact Nintendo. The last time I checked they were fixing roaming joy cons for free!So if you’re reading this and you don’t have a shop warranty or they’re being difficult then please, please get in touch with Nintendo!

If you are somebody like me that doesn’t utilise the docking feature then in my humble opinion the Switch Lite is the model you want. Why pay extra for features you won’t use? Save yourself the £80 or so and get a bundle for £200 with a game and you’re in for a treat.A little thing which is a big one for me that some may not mention is that the buttons on the Lite are much, much quieter meaning that when I want to sneak a quick game of Rocket League, Doom, Skyrim, Wolfenstein or Mario Odyssey in while in bed and everybody’s sleeping I don’t feel the button mashing is clicking and clacking away annoying my other half in the room. The standard model didn’t make it easy to keep quiet while playing which is one of the best ways to play a Switch,in bed after a long day’s work. Also a benefit of the Switch Lite is of coarse it’s more portable feel and somewhat slightly brighter display. It even lasts a little longer on the battery compared to the first generation version.Games are notorious for running at a low resolution on Switch, for example Wolfenstein 2/Youngblood and Doom more notably. But games that suffer this low resolution look that bit more sharper on the handhelds slightly smaller screen. So there are pro’s and con’s.. as with anything. But I have to say the reasons above are what made me pick the Lite over the standard Nintendo Switch. You’re still getting 99% of the games to play in a smaller, more compact, more practical unit and less expensive unit. The fact that this is a Nintendo Switch to begin with makes it five stars. As a side note, I’ve put in a number of hours with the Lite and not noticed any immediate stick drift that people talk about, even on the standard model having it for almost 2 years, I didn’t have the issue there either. At least we have more options for how we choose to play games on the platform.

I bought the Yellow one for myself as i thought it was bright and cheerful. I bought mine on the day of the Coronavirus lockdown. It has been of enormous benefit to my mental health as it has kept me busy and distracted from the fact that i am in the shielding category. It was quick to charge, took a few hours. With the wifi off it will last 2 days of all day game play, but with the wifi on visiting friends islands it drains really quickly, about 50% an hour.I bought animal crossing, and both zelda games, and ive played over 300 hours on animal crossing so far.I would say that this is very much a single person console, its not really designed for sharing because it saves the game files to your console hard drive so you cant have 2 accounts of the same game on the same console. Some games have cloud save but not all do, so if you are a single player like me it wont bother you, but if you think you can buy one and buy one game and pass it around, you are going to be disappointed. The one thing i will mention is that i bought a hard case and a silicone cover for mine and you will need it. However, do not under any circumstances plug in the charging cable and leave it in the case like i did, i thought it was going to set on fire it was so hot. The lite cannot handle being charged without lots of free space around it to suck in air to keep it coolThe joysticks and buttons are easy to use and comfy, and for me it has been a salvation during this pandemic which has kept me very distracted. If mine fails i would buy another one immediately, however nintendo, can you release a purple one please! Its brilliant, the screen is crystal clear, the graphics are gorgeous. I also got the switch online thing for 17 quid because it allowed me in animal crossing to visit friends islands.Cant recommend it highly enough!

Oh man I love this size of the Switch!I always felt the OG Switch was a bit too big for long periods of handheld gaming, which is how I play it 99% of the time. Also never liked the joycon flex feel on either side of the console. When you get a bit excited and tense while playing it felt like I would snap the controllers out ha.Honestly the hate for this for not having a TV out is not an issue for me, the lack of HD rumble is also not an issue. Unless the game I’m playing required rumble feedback as part of the game mechanics I’m not at all bothered. Many handheld consoles in the past managed without rumble. The console is well built and doesn’t feel cheap. The screen is nice and clear,it appears a little brighter than my OG Switch when both are at the same brightness setting. But screens do differ from one to another. No brightness sensor? Don’t care, I always manually adjust that myself anyway.Buttons! Another thing I don’t like on the OG Switch is the ABXY and the dpad buttons. Personally prefer the feel of a rubber pad squish, the Switch Lites ABXY, dpad, ZL and ZR all have a soft bump that feels similar to the buttons and dpad on a DS Lite. Oddly the L and R buttons are not the same feel as the ZL and ZR, but the same clicky feel as on the OG Switch. Perhaps there’s not enough space under there for a rubber pad?I personally would put this up there with the original PSP and DS Lite as my favourite handhelds to date so far. It is really down to personal preference but the Switch Lites size fits perfect for me.If you don’t care for TV out, rumble, or detachable controllers to play with friends because you’re a lone gamer like myself, I would recommend this over the non-Lite model. It’s also cheaper and for the price difference you can pick up an extra game or two!

where do I start with the switch lite, I could say it's the best handheld console I have owned an I've owned alot dating back to Gameboy colour, would I be lying in that statement yes an no obviously the games make a console an Nintendo has them I would go as far as to say if u buy a switch do your self a favour buy Zelda breath of the wild (amazing game one of the best on the console by far). it's everything u want from a handheld it has a good display although u may struggle in direct sunlight, it's lite in the hand aswell as portable the speakers are good it has usb type c so I only have to carry my phone charger. It has great games, but there's where the goodness ends if u buy this console thinking hey Xbox an playstation games are big compared to the internal memory Nintendo switch lite us the same make sure you buy a micro SD cause if u install two free games for example fortnite and rocket league or apex legends with the YouTube app expect to be out of memory already so make sure you have at least a 64gb micro SD card so you can have at least 5or 6 games on there depending on there size. I bet your thinking well downloading on Xbox an playstation take forever maybe the switch lite is better sadly not downloading games takes just Aslong especially if the game size is similar. After using this device for almost a month an bit now I would say it's a near perfect handheld console let down by small flaws such as average battery life u will prob get about 3 maybe 4 hours on a charge so nothing to shout about an charging is fairly quick it's built well the only missing feature is built in Bluetooth for wireless headphones but thats not really a minus I would give this device a solid 4/5 stars. I love this device an I feel most people will who want a personal portable console.

I prefer this Switch. It is more visually appealing and has some improvements but also has negatives (depending on how you view things). The Switch Lite feels like a much sturdier build and much more rubbery. It has a proper D pad and the controllers are connected on the side. It has the same amount of inbuilt memory but you have the option to either create a new user or transfer your existing user. I have not used the profile sharing so cannot comment on this. You need to re-download your games or DLC for your Switch Lite plus any patches needed. If you shared DLC/games across other profiles you can only download purchases tied to that account, otherwise you need to buy it for the one you transferred.Note: a system update is required for the transfer. After the transfer is complete all your saves carry over so you can continue where you left off.I've only been able to test Super Neptunia, Smash Bros and Link's Awakening so far but it is probably the best redesign I've ever seen from Nintendo. Sure you lose the TV feature but with D pad and sturdy design it is more than worth it to me. I am not going to sugar coat it though: if you play mainly on TV or use TV mode often enough this is not for you!If you like the Vita and are looking to upgrade this is the system to go for. Upgrading from the 3DS family is rather more difficult to justify. The games on Switch are premium prices matching the prices you would pay on the HD consoles 10 years ago. You can still get £30 or £35 games (Indie games go for all kinds of prices) but these are extremely rare from Nintendo themselves.

This is the hand held that I have been waiting for all my life.It is the first true portable device to allow full console games to be played on the go without compromise. It is more comfortable than the OG Switch and fits in a reasonable size pocket (see pic for size comparison it is smaller and lighter than you think). With the wealth of RPGs and great indie games this could be the Vita replacement gamers have been looking for. Add in the first party Nintendo titles and the library is unparalleled in the portable market. However if you want table top mode - don't buy it. If you want to play it as a hybrid - don't buy it. If you want it on your tv - don't buy it. In all those situations it isn't for you.If you own a Switch already, this is an extravagance and you don't need it, whether you want one for portable play will likely depend on your spare cash.If you want a premium handheld alone then this is the way to go.The slight negatives are that the battery life is only a very marginal improvement. If they could have squeezed another half hour out of it that would have been magic. It also has had no improvement in the wifi and download speeds (which seem to max out at 60mbps despite having a much faster connection) and the spectre of joy-con drift still hangs over this machine and Nintendo has failed to address this which may worry some.Definitely recommended but with a couple of caveats and some definite exceptions.

Bought the lite after debating between it and the normal switch. In the end, I decided the features the normal switch would offer me just didn't justify the additional cost (for me personally- other people will think different).Arrived, well packaged. Opened it up and stuck it in to charge. Comes with about 65% battery already so didn't take long to charge. Setup was easy.Purchased animal crossing through the nintendo estore and it took approximately 45 minutes to download so not the quickest in terms of download speed ability but not the worst either.Lightweight, yet sturdy. Joysticks are smooth and easy to move.I did get a case to help hold it after reading reviews and would say getting the case is definitely worth the price and makes it easier to hold.Battery life seems decent enough, and charging speed is quick ish so definitely plus points.I would say this is an excellent purchase- well worth the money. I would say research both the lite and the standard version and decided what suits your gaming most. You can get additional joy cons for the lite for multiplayer modes but you are limited to the small screen. This isnt an issue for me personally but for anyone purchasing for families, I would say the standard version is probably going to be your preference.Looking forward to spend my time in lockdown playing this!

Bought as a present for my daughter so it's more of a review of the console as a parent.Perfect console for kids. It has a good collection of AAA and indie kid friendly games. The menu is really easy to navigate for children. You can put parental locks so to speak so children cant play certain games. Also you can put a timer on the switch lite itself so you only allow an x amount of time for the child to be on it in a day. You can customise this so they can play longer on weekends for example. The portability is fantastic, easy to use and reach each button without and restrain on your hands (so far atleast).Although I believe the battery life is not bad, it would have been nice just for it to last for an extra hour or so,however again, this is for my daughter who is only allowed on it for so long in a day so it's not a problem really. The only con I really have with it is that there are no apps like netflix, like previous generations, however this is a portable gaming console so it's not much of a con just something to bare in mind.Honestly though if you are a parent and thinking of getting a switch lite for your child, I would definitely recommend. It is all you need and the restrictions you can set are easy to use.
