My original PS4 is 3 years old and while it was going strong i decided to trade it in and get this smaller and more efficient model (via my local gaming store). I must say i don't quite know how they've managed to make it this small given i have taken one of the original PS4s apart and there wasn't exactly much space going spare, so well done Sony.Firstly as to the box and what you get in it: The box itself is made from thinner cardboard than the original although the packaging is just as good. You get the 500GB PS4 in Matte Black, matching Bluetooth controller with a new light in the top of the touch pad, Power cable, HDMI cable and the identical mono headset (single ear)and a USB power cable for charging the controller. What you need to know is that the PS4 Slim is identical to the outgoing model in terms of performance specifications, the system operates at the same speed although due to a change in the manufacturing process of the APU the system now draws less power from the wall and outputs less heat. Overall the console is significantly smaller, Sony say by 30% over the original (or that's what it said on the advertising board in the store). Sadly the Blu-ray drive has not been upgraded so it won't output at 4k, that said the drive is quieter than previous versions. This particular one has a 500GB HDD which is sufficient for my needs as i only have a handful of games at any one time. If you plan on keeping more games then i suggest you pick a bigger hard drive version or you could always upgrade the HDD yourself, thankfully they've kept the hard drive accessible and easy to replace.Port wise everything is the same except they've removed the Optical Audio jack from the rear, while it doesn't affect me it will to anyone that uses a soundbar or external speakers. Thankfully the buttons on the front (power and eject) are physical buttons rather than touch sensitive. The controller remains virtually identical apart from a new light in the top of the touch pad and the glossy parts have been removed and are now matte like the rest of it. It might just be me but i also think that the D pad buttons look greyer than before. The user interface remains identical to what it was before which isn't necessarily a bad thing and it remains snappy and quick to navigate. Games install super quick in a matter of a few minutes and they have also added full HDR (high Dynamic Range) support to the console although that does apply to ALL existing PS4s too. Keep in mind you will need a TV that is HDR compatible to take advantage of the technology. So what do i like and what don't i like about the slim compared to the older model? I like the fact that it is smaller and more efficient and that they have added HDR and even upgraded the built in wireless (which does make a difference if you have a 5GHz Router) but i am disappointed that they haven't upgraded the Blu-ray drive to accommodate 4K movies. I am also disappointed that they still include the PATHETIC mono headset, sure it gets you by but i wouldn't recommend using it long term. Also i think they should have improved the capacity of the built-in battery in the controller.VERDICT: As an upgrade this is only justifiable if you don't need the optical audio port and want to replace your old hardware with something new and more efficient. If you are new to gaming and are looking to get your first console then this is the PS4 to get, gaming wise it does everything the original does but is quieter and cheaper to run. I'm not going to lie though i was disappointed that there isn't a 4K blu-ray drive but i suppose we can't have everything. It still has the best interface out of all the current games consoles and the games look stunning. RECOMMENDED!

THE PURCHASEI wasn't interested in any of the game bundles currently on offer for the PS4 slim, so it actually worked out more cost effective for me to buy the base unit on its own and then games separately, however this may be different for you depending on what games your after.THE PACKAGINGThe PS4 is double boxed. The outer box was pretty flimsy and reveals a stronger inner box, on opening this, things tended to start falling out of the box, like the instructions and cables. The PS4 itself is held securely in place.THE AESTHETICSI've waited a long time for the PS4 slim, I've used the older PS4s before and have to say I didn't personally like the gloss or the sharp corners. For me this new PS4 slim is a thing of beauty. The form factor is a lot smaller than previous versions and the Matt black and soft rounded corners look stunning. There are a few tweaks on the controller, like the lighting strip now on the top and the thumb sticks now in grey. Cables in the box include: power cable, hdmi cable, USB controller charging cable and ear headphones that plug into the controller. Note that no Ethernet cable is supplied so if you are planning to connect to your router by cable, make sure you have a Ethernet cable or order one at the same time. From out of the box the PS4 took about 15 mins to set up and get going. On connecting to the internet the PS4 picked up a software update which I believe is the new HDR patch. Also noted that this runs quieter than the older ps4's and the on/off and eject are real buttons that can be easily found, unlike some earlier models.I debated picking up one of the older PS4's or even waiting for the Pro, but for me this PS4 slim is perfect and I'm very very happy with my choice!I would describe myself as a casual gamer, so was not after a big hard drive so the entry 500gb should be fine for me, and if I decide at a later date I want a bigger hard drive then this Ps4 slim has a easy accessible port at the back to pull the hard rice out, so no unscrewing the older ps4 versions.

Ok graphics for the exclusives are amazing.gameplay is great. I finally bought one as I really wanted to play about 6 or 7 games you can’t get on the Xbox. Was it worth it ... only time will tell. I’m not going online with Sony as I prefer my Xbox for that.I was after single player titles and boy do they do the job. GloriousOk now the negative....The controller on ps is shaped completely wrong, feels weird and just feels cheap. I like that you can keep it wired to the console or go wireless with a build in battery but it feels off some how.My biggest gripe is how loud the console can get when the game taxes it. It seriously sounds like a jet warming up on the runway. Oddly I get around this by doing 2 things...buy some stands to mount it on in each corner to get it off the floor so air can circulate better and weirdly take the top off the console. Taking the lid off keeps it cool and doesn’t tax the fan so much quieter.I’ve cleaned this thing out so it’s not dirty but my god they are loud. This has ripped me out of my immersion many a time.....didn’t happen with Xbox.So will I jump ship to Sony for ps5??? Not sure but as of August Sony has 6 exclusives and Xbox has 12 and NO ONE is talking about that. sony apparently can do no wrong. Mechanically Xbox is designed for gamers and I truly believe that as Sony need to make something beautiful.. please concentrate on keeping your console cool and quiet as Microsoft learnt a generation ago.Ok verdict time ... if I had to buy one console knowing what I know would I get it again... probably not.I just can t see this being my primary platform. Ps5 then...?? Primary platform no as if the PS4 pro is the best they can do then for cross play it’s Microsoft all the way.Read full review...

Bought especially to replay 'The Last of Us Remastered' after playing it on the PS3 and this console didn't disappoint. I've had a PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and now a PlayStation 4 which is honestly my favourite so far.I prefer the feel of a PS4 controller in my hands. The dashboard is easier to use and more customisable than the Xbox One. Also when the PS4 updates it lets you know what it changed whereas the Xbox doesn't like keeping you in the loop. The video studio and picture gallery are really handy and it doesn't require perfect internet to watch your own clips compared to the Xbox One which I can never watch back. I have completely filled my hard drive now. There's around 18 games installed which is also a lot quicker and easier to do than the Xbox One. Also when you want to play a game that has an update, you can play the game and download the update to install at the same time. The Xbox will refuse to let you play the game until you've updated it which can be annoying and very time consuming. It's also so much quieter than the Xbox One during gameplay. I'm constantly have to turn the volume up to try and hear anything over the Xbox One hum, but the PS4 is so silent you don't even realise it's on half the time. Heat wise it seems better too. The Xbox One generates a lot of heat just after turning it on, but the PS4 can remain room temperature after being on for more than a few hours.I love my PlayStation 4 and I would highly recommended it to all gamers.

Lovely Console.Bought this for my partner and he loves it, amazon went over and beyond to make sure this was delivered in time for his birthday even though they had to get it from another fulfilment centre it was delivered next day a day ahead of schedule great customer service !The PlayStation four slim , is considerably lighter and smaller that the original PS4, There is NO led light on the PS4 Slim as to the PS4 and a drawback i would say for serious gamers is there is no optical in port, the ps4 slim is all matte close up the ps4 slim is a much more attractive console compared to the original ps4The Dualshock 4 controller has also had a little tweak, most notably in the front-facing,multi-coloured light bar that appears on the touchpad so no more having to turn your controller to see what colour you are and it is USB compatible so if you liked you could to plug it straight into a PC !Should You Buy One ?Well Considering the PS4 Pro is coming out in the very near future that is built with 4k in mind then probably not, the PS4 slim does look really really nice and at £249.99 a real bargain so if your not interested to much in a better picture quality then this is the console for you, The PS4 PRO is suspected to cost £349.99 so nearly a £100 more but with that you get better specs and 1tb of storage standard.I would have preferred Sony to bring a white slim out along with the black, but that is my personal preference!I hope you found this helpful :)

I had the Original Release PS4 until I heard about the Slim. Read several reviews, then decided to make the purchase.Best decision I could have made, yes the Pro was coming out a month or two later, but I was being driven mad by the original PS4. This thing is dead quiet compared to the release one.I honestly couldn't believe my ears, when I booted this thing up. Downside, my room gets colder now :pThe wired controller feature, is almost unnoticeable, but in certain games it is somewhat noticeable. It's considerably quieter in most games, compared to the original.I play a lot of FFXIV, and in most areas where there aren't other players, the original console goes into super loud mode. The fans would spin and the system would heat the room. This one however, it's dead quiet, the only time it can be heard is when I really push it. In FFXIV, there's some certain instances where the game really pushes the system. But it's still so much better than release.I have no idea what the Pro is like, whether it's just as quiet, despite being a lot more powerful. But if you're just after a quieter PS4, and don't care for the Overpowered PS4 Pro, go for this.

Being a PC gamer I never really considered the concept of buying another console but considering the fact that I could be waiting months even years to play this on my platform of choice I had to jump on a console.now in my honest opinion the PC will always be where my heart lies but to give credit where credit is due a PlayStation 4 is extremely easy to use the games look amazing and run well red dead redemption 2 as that was what came included with my bundle was well worth the wait I've only just started to sink my teeth into the storyline and I'm excited to see where it goes and even more so for the multiplayer. If I was to recommend anybody on what they should do when it came to getting asystem to play games on of course 100% of the time I would recommend getting a decent computer but if you need a console for whatever reason the PS4 is the least convoluted the least cluttered and one of the easiest to use and on the bright side you can buy an adaptor so you can plug in any controller you like as I myself am not a big fan of the DualShock controller but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

First of all I bought this through game this time not amazon. To beginwith the price itself is very competitive at around 250 pounds, for a next gen console thats not bad at all. This newly designed smaller, sleeker console has the same parts as its original predecessor, meaning the performance is the same but takes up less room in a house. One huge positve is that you barely realize its on thanks to the new fan design it also has HDR available for tv's that support it which gives you a new colour depth displaying brighter whites and deeper blacks. Another great feature is that in the box you will find a new controller which now has the light at the top of the touch pad meaning we can finally see it and enjoy it.Now should you buy one?Well depends, if you have the previous one than no, if you havent got one than yes, but you might aswell wait now a month untill the pro is realised on November 10th as projections claim the older ps4 original and slim could drop as low as 150 pounds. If the one you have now is old and slow why not buy? But its really is up to you.

I bought this PS4 500GB for around £230, with Red Dead Redemption 2 included. Totally happy with purchase. The deal was much better than buying them seperately, with RD2 going for around £50 at the time (best price) and the PS4 on its own going for slightly more than the price I paid for both together as a package deal. The console is superb all round, and so far the 500GB vs 1TB doesn't seem to have been a problem with saves, though I suppose I'm more limited regarding how many games I can have installed at one time. The game itself is awesome in many ways, huge and expansive, wonderful graphics and story and flavour. One small concern is the sheer number of different controls you have available in different modes - there's a lot to learn - but it's still early days and I'll probably master them in time. Patience is needed in this game! But overall, a great deal - so, so worth the money for the vast hours of quality fun I'll get from it, and the multi-functionality of the PS4 is a very nice added bonus! Defo worth the 5 stars.

We purchased this for Christmas and are happy with it.We opted for the base model, the 500GB one with no games, as none of the listed games took our fancy. The new design is excellent - it's about 30% smaller than the original so it's easy to store and takes up very little space once it's deployed. The controller has also had a brush up were the brightness light bar has been moved from the back to the front of the controller, so it's now visible to the user. You can now connect the new controller to USB as opposed to the old bluetooth one, which will reduce any lag. It also features a minor colour change on the buttons from black to grey. All of the gubbins from the old system are featured inside this,so they really have just made it smaller and compact, and operates just the same as the 2013 model. If you are looking for a smaller model of the older one, get this. If you are looking for something that will give you a boost in gaming performance and have a 4k compatible tv, then check out the Playstation 4 pro.

Ps4 to Xbox One S to picking this up for playstation exclusives.Essentially it is a great console and worth having over an original model for the better power consumption, lower noise and importantly the better wifi.It is about the best looking console I've owned and works well, having many features the Xbox lacks. Pro reviews seem dubious, with content taking advantage lacking and the Xbox One X coming out soon meant having this model made more sense. It's let down by the controllers. I love the updated version with light bar, USB function, better battery and what seems to me lighter triggers/buttons. However of the 2 included one arrived with a broken R3 button sounding crunchy and the second arrived with about 5 marks on it and covered in crumbs of some kind.Reviews for the controller quality back this up, seeming average overall sadly.

Excellent Upgrade to my original PS4 , plus it really is much, much quieter even on Uncharted 4 ( a good test) unlike my old one that whined like a jet engine, this you can barely hear working so that I can hear what our Nathan drake is saying. The fact (as others were saying) that it doesn't have a IR connection at the back is not a problem for me as I always used a tv connected soundbar, and anyway you can buy a aux in connector for audio transfer. amazon sell them. For those of you who are quite happy with a 1080/ 720 stand HD , you cannot go wrong. And for those of you worried about wifi connection, I can recommend to use a TP link brand wall socket wired Lan connector that uses the home electric supply instead of long cables, choose 300-500 bp strength. ( usually 35 quid ), good for netflix and prime also.!!! 4.5 Stars

Took me a long time to finally get my hands on a PS4, and I'm so glad I finally did! I bought my 2nd hand from one of the private sellers on here, and it was in immaculate condition. No cosmetic imperfections, all cables included, even the controller was in great nick. Could easily have believed it was new!Runs very quietly. It's a nice slim design and fits well on the pull-out printer shelf on my desk - it has air vents and channels on the sides, so I don't even need to worry about pulling the shelf out, as the air gets all around it fine. The wireless controller has good range, and lasts quite some hours. The headphone jack on the controller is also great, very handy to have that.So happy to finally be able to play the games that either aren't on PC, or that my poor little laptop has no chance of running!

I've had my PlayStation 4 for almost 3 years and it's absolutely brilliant. There are so many capabilities for this console, not only as a Games Console but as an Enterrainment Hub - with the likes of iplayer, Netflix and Amazon prime.I use my console for almost everything - Gaming, watching movies and streaming YouTube videos and it does the job perfectly.I never exeoriebce any lag at all in games or on the menus and the conosole loads up so quickly! If you haven't got a 4K and want to switch to the PS4 from last gen or Xbox One of say get this PS4.I can't wait to get my 4K TV, I'll upgrade to the PS4 pro then. The graphical capabilities of this console are outstanding. The only negative pointis that I wish the PS4 had more USB ports!5* from me!
