As a child of the mid 80's, when I grew up, I had a Mega Drive 2 and a few good games, back then no one bought insane amounts of games like children have now so you grew to adore the games you had. I still have the mega drive but obviously it's a bit of pain to get it out and at some point it'll probably just die and I'd hate to never be able to play it's games again and there was games I'd love to have played but couldn't afford back then and can't find anymore. So in steps this game...I'd seen it for the PS3 and I even considered buying a console just for this game but finances wouldn't allow so when I saw this for the PC I purchased it right away. I'll let you into the experience I had when replaying these games. For one, there is just something magic about the classic sounds and hearing old soundtracks brought back so many memories and the graphics age properly! Replay some of the early 3D games for the Playstation 1 and you'll vomit at how bad they look, but 2D retro games never die. Two, these games feel like REAL games which makes them so much more fun to play. Platform games just have some sense of excitement in them that I really don't feel is prominent in today's games: Points, bosses, levels, combos, special stages and the like were the core of retro gaming laced with solid gameplay on systems that wouldn't allow jaw dropping graphics to mask over terrible gameplay, much like some games I currently play.I played through all these games with my little cousin who is 12, so he's part of the new gen Xbox COD squad, I'm 26 and have played games all my life and we both struggled with some of these games. I can blast through Modern Warfare on Veteran, yet I'm getting stuck on Ecco the dolphin! Partly through some semi awkward controls, partly because these games are challenging but most of all because they are so fun, I play long enough to battle through where I struggle.I'd say even if you aren't old enough to remember any of these games, or even if you played them all and not sure whether to revisit them, as a gamer you should take the time to go back and play again all the games that either helped develop your skills, or if you are young, play these games to realise that although you may think they look rotten compared to Grand Theft Auto, these games stand the test of time and I'd bet that you'd struggle with them, no matter how awesome your multiplayer rank is today. These are the games that built the industry and I paid only £10 to keep them in my collection.

The games of course are all top notch for the money. About 1000 pounds worth of games back in the day for under 4 quid. Although some of the games are not the best, getting most of the classics for tuppence ha'penny makes this irrelevant. Who cares if Sonic 3D is awful when you have Sonic 1 2 and 3?The only real issue is that you might not want to bother getting a controller and just using a keyboard instead. Using the keyboard, the RPG games work perfect of course. The platformers are almost perfect although you can't race through Sonic games as you can't react to things as they appear at top speed. The beat ups seem to be only ok to play with a keyboard. You'd probably want a controller to play them properly although like me,you make think it's not worth it.Completed Shining In The Darkness and Shining Force 2 (the game which Nintendo's excellent Radiant Dawn series is merely a 21st century update of) already which was dozens of hours of fun with dozens of games left. Now we just need Nintendo to go bust so they flog off all their early console games for nothing as well. :)

Yes, if you never could quite master any of the 40+ titles here on the Megadrive when they first emerged, you are now about to get your revenge!I got it primarily to relive the 4 Sonic 2-D games and have loved it to death for them alone-the music is not quite as good & Knuckles in Sonic 2 is absent, but otherwise it's been a blast. I'm amazed at how much I remembered from 20 years ago & more, and even more chuffed to discover new ringrooms, 1-UP's & shortcuts I missed then.Even better, games I never had then I've tried & found as much fun in their differing ways-Ecco,Columns,Flicky etc. Beat that! And, to top it all, what you very probably didn't have then, the ability to save it, is here in every game.Yes, ANYWHERE,ANYTIME,ANYPLACE, as they used to sing about Martini, you really can save the game wherever you like, so a particularly difficult section/level/boss/bonus stage can be broken down into manageable chunks.Thoroughly recommended-nothing like bashing badniks many times over until you've achieved the maximum score you can!! It's almost theraputic!

This is a fantastic retro collection and guess what, the cheats still work (at least on an XB360 joypad). I haven't gone through all of them yet but the level select for Sonic 1 & 2 (up,down, left, right, hold A and press start)(to be done when sonic waves his finger during intro)works and even better, in Sonic 1 the cheat where you can create your own screens works (up,C,Down,C,left,C,right,C,hold A and press start)(again when sonic waves his finger at the intro sequence)works also, and then you can use B to change sonic into a ring and then use C to run through all of the building bricks of a level and A to put them into the game (I think I've got the buttons right)I've also successfully used cheats in Kid Chameleon and others and haven't yet found one that doesn't work. What a bargain this is.

If you are of a certain age you will remember these sega games very well, probably spent many hours in arcades playing up the levels and then at home on early PC's wondering why they were not quiet the same! But these are the real thing and real retro sound that might drive some up the wall because in these days they sound on some of the games a bit tinny in comparision to more modern games. But one day modern games will be the same but l wonder if they will be as fun as these were and are with dear old sonic and mario flying across the screen again and some of the other arcade favourites. So settle down and spend more than a few hours in nostalgic trip back to a time full of innocent fun andmake that hedgehog spin!

Fantastic !!! Never thought that I would be playing bio hazard battle again. Installs and plays first time on a 64 bit system. If you buy a usb megadrive control pad convertor you can even play with the original megadrive control pads plugged into your pc, just like the good old days.

This collection of games is dated by modern standards but on the plus side you dont get this many games for well under a tenner very often . If arcade games are your bag you cant go wrongA P
