It is of course possible to substitute out real wood for some of the parts here on offer. It'd look great. Making a small sail from silk span or linen might come in useful for preparing to tackle a real larger scale wooden ship model if the hobby bites.This is quite a small model as you might expect as it is a lifeboat or proto-launch. Something you could expect to find on a Baltic Cog or Holk in the 14th Century for example, although a transomed hull might indicate more commonly seen 'late medieval' and beyond but unsure, specifically. One could easily modify it into a latin-sailed mediterranean (Amalfi, Genoa, Sardegna etc.) fishing/packet vessel using said silkspan and small diameter dowel.A very nice kit,

What a lovely well designed little kit. Medieval is a misnomer, the kit could be from anywhere between 1650 to 1930 ish. It scales out at 18 feet and proportionately is a pretty good representation of a working boat from that period. I've bought 4 of them so far, with the intention of configuring them rigged differently. For an 18' boat there should be no need to support the mast with shrouds or stays. With just a few subtle alterations so many different overall configurations are possible; least of all an endless variety of colour options.With a little imagination and a bit of reference material this is one of the most flexible kits I've ever come across.

The model consists of 23 parts with some nice surface detailing on the exterior of the hull and decking areas. The smaller parts (oars etc) are finely moulded and not overscale in appearance. There is a rigging diagram on the A5 size instruction sheet but rigging cord is not supplied with the kit (use some thread). The hull measures about 80mm stem to stern, so the model is quite small. No paints or glue are provided (I wouldn't expect them to be anyway). The three recommended Humbrol colours are matt white (34), matt black (33) and natural wood (110)

I got this kit for my model train layout. It's pretty high quality. I wanted to use it as the basis for a different type of boat. but only needed to make some small modifications to turn it into a Norfolk Crabber. It would also be a good kit for someone starting out making model kits. There are not that many parts so it's not a mammoth project. But anyone who is building model railways or war games at1:72 would find it really useful.

Brilliant little piece of history that is often overlooked ! ,simple to put together which makes it a lot of fun from the young to the more experienced modeller whom I'm sure would always find a place some where to utilize such a nice little model .

Great little kit (especially for the price). First I've assembled and painted for many years. I have shaky hands and poor eyesight but still managed to make a satisfactory job of it. Its a nice looking, seemingly historically accurate model.
