So, yet another RPG is let loose upon PS2, but does is it worth buying? The game follows Jude, a young boy whose world is the tiny island he lives on floating on the sky. Untill, one day, invaders come. He meets a girl, and suddenly the fur is flying. An arm becomes mysteriously attached to Jude, the island plummets to the earth, and all Jude wants to do is protect the girl, (Yulie) and the earth from the peril of the ARM!So a typical, save the world story, which is pretty good due to the characters all being pretty standard, but pleasent, no antagonists like you get in many RPGs.The graphics are OK, not great. Everything is 3D, but I personally feel that this has been to the detriment of detail.A box is a box, no detail, houses are virtually all the same, but then there are good variations on characters and locations. The gameplay is essentially in battle and out of battle. Battles are turned based and take place on a hexagonal grid of 7 squares which all affect play. You need to be on the square next to the enemy to use short distance attacks, and status attacks only affect the square you use them on. This creates a level of strategy not used on an RPG before. As always, you can use magic, summon and upgrade your characters ability through collecting experience. However, action fans may find the turn based play a little tedious (i.e. you go, I go.) Out of battle, there is a new platform element to gameplay, requiring you to jump from platform to platform, and of course, some sections will require you to find an item like a bomb so you can progress. So overall? I think that anyone who isn't into RPGs is not suddenly going to get into this one. The story is OK, but not great, and the gameplay feels very much like "I've seen this before." However, for RPG fans, this is a great game to get. A new and innovative take on the genre with excellent character portrayals. Personally, for RPG fans, a must have game.

Well I liked this game. The storyline is the typical kind of boy (and friends) saves world kind of storyline but it's a good one, although you do kind of get the impression that adults are the bad guys in this game. Anyway, the graphics again are good being very similar, if a little better than those in Wild Arms 3 which is fine by me as I personally am a fan of the more cartoony type graphics anyway. The battle system is very different to the previous Wild Arms games, being based on a hex system but it is still a turn based system and very easy to master, so if you liked the previous games, you shouldn't let the new battle system put you off this one.The only slight complaint I have about this game is the way the characters move from one area to the next.In this game you are given a map and you click with your cursor where you would like your character to go and you are taken automatically there. Some people may prefer this style but I personally prefer the freedom of being able to wander around a world map, riding horses and exploring the world like in Wild Arms 3.All in all if you're a fan of the Wild Arms series or turn based games in general then Wild Arms 4 is worth buying. In my opinion it's not as good as Wild Arms 3 but having said that I'm still eagerly awaiting the release of Wild Arms 5!Oh and as regards the game crashing as reported in a previous review, I did not experience this at all so maybe that person has just got a temperamental PS2 or something??

I am a big fan of wild arms and my first one and favourite one in the series happens to be the second on on the ps1.This game feels like a step down in terms of universe scope, battle system and story length. The scope of the game is much smaller compared to the previous instalments even the ps1 ones and this helped make the game much linear than it should be.Although the battle system is still turn based, it adopted a strategy like approach of moving one's characters in hexes. I really liked the previous one and I felt it unnecessary for them to change it.The characters are kid of cliche and the story tried to have some twist, but I've probably played many games to be surprised by a small twist. The music is fine and the characters are dubbed in English. In short, most of the shortcomings may have stemmed from a lower budget than desired and while this game is not one of the better wild arms games, it is still a good game if you don't compare it too much with the others in the series.
