Original comment, one star rating: Not worth it if you play with inverted Y axis control option. After applying the camera control scheme it works fine until an NPC locks onto you, for some reason the camera then reverts back and forward to original Y axis, it does this intermittently so there is no way to control the camera at all in the middle of a swarm, which is the most frantic and rewarding part of the game. This camera issue however, renders the game virtually unplayable. I think this game will be excellent once this issue is patched. Seems to be similar to Left4Dead (which I thought was great) gameplay, the combat is nice and fluid from what I can tell so far when picking of single enemies, but after slashing my weapons at the sky then ground then sky then ground for 30 mins every time there is a rush of enemies or key battle I had to stop playing.New review after issues fixed 4 stars:This game had an awful camera issue making the game virtually unplayable, it was patched within days of release, hat off to the Devs for fixing that issue (amongst others) and for adding in new improvements to the general gameplay and options. If you've played any of the left4dead games then the best description I can think of is that it is pound for pound the L4D game with Warhammer themed skins and an a welcomed weapons upgrade system. It's a bit too in depth to give a review on at this point, suffice to say each character has it's own distinctive weapon set. Weapons can be upgraded through a relatively simple forging process. The levels are fairly large and each mission is split into mini parts and contains the same generic gameplay recipe and general enemies types throughout. Variety in the locations keep things interesting and although the game play remains similar each level has its own theme to each task to be completed, layout and mini story. Most of the game is spent moving through the levels completing seemingly simple tasks like activating a door that takes time - which would normally be a practically inefficient amount of time - to open, but allowing you to fight off swarms of enemies. Another example is planting explosive barrels ("conveniently" located at the other side of the particular area) to blow open the doors to the next area, all the while fighting through relatively low level Skaven then escalating in difficulty and intermittent swarms of enemies. The level design is packed with the typical Warhammer artwork styled buildings or dungeons. Some of the levels are cleverly constructed to be confusing and split up he group during the panic of the swarms, this gives the game a more frantic feel to it and sticking close to your team mates becomes the the most important point so you can pull each other out of trouble. The levels are played by up to 4 people or filler bots where applicable. If none of your friend list have the game or are available then joining quick games and playing alongside random people is your best bet because it doesn't matter how bad you or the other players are, nobody is worse than the bots!!! They are hilariously incompetent, but it's fine because this game is best played with other people. There are (currently) 5 characters to choose from. Each character has it's own unique set of melee weapon, ranged weapon, trinket and.......a hat........yeah. Each character has their own unique character appropriate version of each of weapon type. For example the dwarf has starting weapons of hammer and shield and a crossbow, the fire magus starting weapons are a sword and a flame staff. The weapons have their own individual handling stats, efficiency and status effect (if applicable). Switching from Melee to ranged combat is at the touch of a button so switching in the middle of combat is seamless. Each character has a couple of different options for weapon types meaning that your chosen character can have a variety of different fighting styles depending on what weapon they are using, for example the waywatcher can have melee options of dual swords or a single sword. Some weapons have unlockable attributes like speed of attacks increase exponentially for a duration or your weapon may inflict poison damage. You have the opportunity to to acquire new weapons or gear at the end of each successfully completed level ( I stress successfully completed level because if you fail you get minimum experience points, possibly some crafting materials and to replay the entire level from the beginning...it's brutally unforgiving if you fail). The flaw, and bugbear of this system, is the weapon acquisition process. You acquire new weapons based on a dice roll section at the end of the level. You can end up unlocking weapons for another character that you aren't particularly fussed on using. These weapons can be stored in case you want to use another character or can be salvaged for other materials so it's not a major issue, just exceptionally frustrating when your current weapons badly needed an upgrade for the last 3 hours you've been playing. Especially when you get the coveted bonus dice :O !!! Only to roll a null :( Or if you're lucky get a brand new spanking weapon :D !!....for another character...... :(All in this game is a great game, with frantic, but fluid, gory and visceral hack and slash, but tactical combat. Frustrating and rewarding moments come hand in hand with this game. You can never be sure whether you are going to be throwing your first into the air or throwing your chair at your TV. It has some minor flaws but it looks great, it plays great and the upgradeable weapons add to the addictive points of this little blighter...there's a joke in there.... It looks like there's a good dev support for this game given how quickly the release day bugs were fixed, so hopefully there will also be new DLC, characters, weapons and levels on the horizon to keep the game fresh.

Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide is a first-person melee game. In it there are five playable characters -- an Elf, Dwarf, Mage, Soldier, and Witch Hunter. Each has two weapon types: one melee and one ranged. Before a level begins you will choose one of the above characters, and three of the others will aid you; your allies can be AI controlled, but on harder difficulties it's normally best to play with other people on Xbox Live, PSN, etc. Each level (there are 16 out of the box) has different objectives that you try to complete while fighting off the game's enemies -- collectively they're known as the Skaven. Half of the time you will be fighting a few scattered foes, but often they'll be swarming towards you en masse. There are various enemy types, ranging from generic Skaven to special enemies, like Rat Ogres, that force your team to stay close and work together. This is especially true as no play through is the same -- the enemies are randomly generated so you won't know what's coming!Cooperation is very much essential in this game. You ~will~ need to help each other to survive, finish the levels and win loot.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+'sThe game is a lot of fun. Combat works very well, and the missions are varied and interesting.Earning loot can be addictive (albeit time consuming). Each time you finish a level, acquire enough experience or complete a special contract, you'll gain a new weapon or trinket that can make your character a little better. There are 16 levels to replay over five difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Hard, Nightmare, and Cataclysm. It only takes up around 20GB of hard drive space.I enjoy the voice acting of the characters and their verbal interactions with one another.-'sYou can only play this if you have an Xbox Live or PSN subscription (on consoles). You ~cannot~ play the game otherwise. In years to come this game will effectively be an unplayable paperweight. The game does a poor job of explaining things to you. Outside of missions you can forge new items and do a few other things, but you're mostly left in the dark and have to figure it out yourself.Harder difficulties are dependent on having at least one or two human players -- the AI can cope on "Normal" difficulty, and to an extent can be good on "Hard" and occasionally "Nightmare" depending on what items you have for them. AI characters won't lift sacks or barrels though (in some missions you have to carry these, meaning you'd have to do all the lifting yourself). They also won't pick up bombs or potions (aside from healing items) which makes the game harder still. For some reason you can't join a random game-in-progress on the two harder difficulties "Nightmare" and "Cataclysm" the same way you can on the other difficulties. Instead, you have to search for games on a level by level basis, rather than having the ability to join any level that is being played. This makes it more difficult to find games on these settings.

I'm writing a review to add some information for people interested in the PC version of Vermintide. Information that is not in the description above. The physical package includes DVDs for installing the game, and also a Steam code. You will need this code to activate the game on Steam, it's not a code to share. If you wish, you can just activate the game with your Steam code, skip the DVDs, and download the whole thing. The game includes most of the DLC released at the time that I write this (see photo). When I activated the Steam code, I received the following in my Steam library:- Vermintide (Main game)- Collector's Edition Content- Drachenfels- Last Stand- Quests and Contracts- Schluesselschloss- Sigmar's BlessingThe DLC named Karak Azgaraz (Dec 2016)is not included in this package. Also included:- Instruction manual,- Art book,- Small two-sided poster (rats on one side, heroes on the other),- CD of the soundtrack- "Thank you" postcard from the developers.I hope this information answers questions that others may have. Enjoy!

I can't believe how underrated this games is! Under the surface! I had lots of fun with both of the Left 2 Dead games and I was looking for something similar. I love zombies and I also love the medieval and monsters theme, so I convinced a couple of friends to buy this ridiculously cheap game. Boy what a choice we made! More polished than Left 4 Dead, variety of weapons and stages and characters while trying to survive in a beautiful dark world. Teamwork is the way to go! Nice graphics and sound, great voice acting. I could put some critic but the price just doesn't let me! Can't wait for the second one to come on PS4! I wish more games like this were available! We are having a blast laughing and fighting our way through!

Great game, pretty much L4D but with an improved loot system and tweaked combat dynamics for melee and magical combat. It's best played with friends as it can get quite hard if you don't cooperate properly at the higher difficulty levels (which in turn give the better loot, so it's in your best interest to get a good group and play it on hard). The content included in the game is vast, there are lots of missions ranging across several locations from what I have seen already. Overall if you're a fan of the Warhammer fantasy universe and like a good, brutal hack and slash - buy it. It has your name all over it.

Amazing game! A true hidden gem that sadly not many people know of unless you are into the warhammer world (I'm book reader fan!) or you stumble upon its wonder! It's a cross between Lord of the Rings and Van Helsling, in s crude description. The combat, team play and enermy swarm AI is awesome! I just wish more people would discover this absolute diamond of a game. Ps. If you do get it watch out for the rat ogres!

Brilliant game, stumbled upon this randomly and didn't have any interest until I heard it plays like Left 4 Dead and it does just that, 5 characters to chose from with different skills and personalities, plenty of missions, random a.i placement which gives huge replay value, satisfying combat, leveling up loot and much more. If your a fan of l4d or coop games then definitely give it a chance, I did and I'm so glad.

Great game to play with friends! characters, enemies and locations are all excellent. It is basically everything that was great about the left for dead series but applied with a warhammer theme.Only problem with this game is the AI if your deciding to play on your own as they will most likely get you killed on the lowest setting :DDefinitely recommend! 5/5

The game itself is very fun, I had trouble installing one of the dvd's but the packaging of this game is top notch. You get 5 dvds in a nice box to keep your Warhammer disks for the next time you install. Well worth the money and I am one who prefers still receiving my games on disk. Only real value and I don't want to purchase them any other way. Thank you.

This is a seriously awesome deal in a beautiful package. I missed getting physical editions of pc games, reading an actual manual, and just simply admiring the boxart. It comes with a little artbook, separate soundtrack, a mini poster, and even a little thank you card from the CEO of Fatshark, the dev team.More pics here [...]

Anyone who likes left 4 dead must own this game, its amazing to play with friends and solo for the loot becomes really addictive the level design is awesome but of course the most important aspect of a game is gameplay and its 5/5 here this game is a true gem do yourself a favour own it

2.8.2017

This is a great game to play online or even on your own what's better than hacking your way through hordes of ratmen with a decent selection of characters. I would definitely recommend this game I especially like how there is still an option to play offline on your own.

2.2.2017

Good game, would recommend if your into the warhammer brand. My only complaint is it could do with a few more modes/levels, also this is best played with friends online in my opinion as some teamwork is needed on harder difficulties

12.10.2016

Fantastic game,a version of L4D on a PS4 at last.Best Warhammer game on a console in my opinion with solid support from the developer regarding questions and an obvious love of the franchise
