Being a lover of red wine (not just myself but also my husband) we were really pleased to be able to try this gadget out. What an excuse for the odd midweek drink or two, without feeling in the slightest bit guilty! You hear of many items being 'just the thing to have', 'a welcome addition to anyone that likes the odd glass or two of wine', you fall for it, thinking 'will that cheaper bottle of wine taste better?' Most gadgets don't always come up trumps, but with this gadget it does.Never before using it would I have thought it made that much difference. We had a bottle of La Piuma (a very nice red, I can now say) one that we haven't had before, so as not to have had a judgement before tasting it with this Vinturi Wine Areator. My husband poured it out, really easy to use, you just pour the wine through the sieve like top bit of the areator with your wine glass underneath, it does make a whishing like noise when the wine goes through it. Then the gadget can be left on your table until you partake in the next glass. as it does look quite a groovy piece even when not being used. Now for some reason when I ordered it I was expecting it to be much bigger (maybe the size of a bottle cooler, husband thought it might be electrical, so be big) no good things come in small packages, well in this case it certainly did. Height wise it is about the size of two mugs put together on top of each other, and width wise about the size of a peppermill, so not a big item to have to store anywhere. If like myself yours won't be in a cupboard but out on display in the kitchen, letting friends try to guess what it does. The difference is the wine was one of those you have to drink it to believe it, the glass I had before using the Vinturi was a little heavy, not tart or nasty but just a little too heavy, with this gadget though the flavour of the blackcurrants/cherries came out and the wine had a lighter feel to it. Yes, that why the school run wasn't done by myself today, I got up slightly later, all down to wine tasting (good excuse I thought and just had to be done).I have not tried it out with other wine selections yet (rose or white) but thought the red was one of those that any difference to be had would be shown in that, and it certainly was.The areator on its own looks like one of those talk about pieces (have people round and no doubt they will be asking what it is). Extremely well made, not a flimsy piece of design, and not one to easily fall over. One of those that look good in anyone's kitchen/dining room and a great Christmas/birthday present for any wine lovers out there. It is well presented along with a little slip bag for protecting it, say for taking out to a friend's house/picnic.The instructions as easy to follow, the only one thing I haven't found anywhere is how to clean it, as it doesn't say if it can go into the dishwasher or not (maybe I am not looking in the right place and there is no symbol underneath it to sau=y it is dishwasherproof). So until someone can tell me if it is dishwash proof I will wash be hand just to be on the safe side, as I don't want my great gadget spoiling.I can no safely add that I have been contacted by the Company that makes this great device and can say 'yes' it is dishwasher safe.

I bought the DELUXE version of the Vinturi over 8 years ago for a Christmas present for my wife. We had originally used a Vinturi whilst holidaying on Vancouver Island, BC Canada, visiting and staying at our in-laws, who own the major Wine Store on Vancouver Island based in Comox Valley. At the time (2008) they and all their customers where raving about just how good Vinturi Aerator’s where, making a cheap wine taste nearly as good as some expensive vintage wines, all by just adding air! Apparently, the Aerator had only been invented 2-years previously (2006) by an Electrical Engineer and was taking North America by storm!Well over the past 8-years this aerator has seen a lot of good use in ourhouse turning cheap Aldi wine into something more like a top end Sainsbury's wine.I originally purchased the VINTURI Deluxe Areator in Canada over 8-years ago now, cost us back then in 2008 some $80!.The Wine Taste Test is what its all about! The improvement to "cheap" wine is outstanding, it aeroates the wine instantaneously improving the taste of the wine vastly, there is absolutely no comparison to the original taste, removing the tart taste associated with cheap or unaired wine.I think you will find most of the other reviews for this product will proclaim this. You can also buy this product without the stand. After buying the stand version, we found that we never used the stand, so your essentially better off buying the unit by itself.=== My Overview: ===Recently I have had the opportunity to review as a Top Amazon Reviewer several other variations on the VINTURI concept, so I have driven the "Rolls Royce" version alongside some of the lesser refined models.Ironically finding that a £8.99 aerator is far beter in improving the taste of the cheap wine. Whereas the 86p aerator does its job but nowhere near as good.VINTURI Deluxe gains a well deserved 4-Star, The "Rolls Royce" aerator may have been the originator, but after 8-years, may not still be the best. The OUNONA aerator @ £8.99 from the taste test perspective rates at 5-Star, as I just found it to be better than the Vinturi and thats after 8-years of being a Vinturi user! The ONDA at 86p is a real surprise, as it works well, but obvioulsy not as good as the other two, so gains 3-Stars.e.===========================Heres are the altenatives to look at:4-Star :: VINTURI DELUXE

There are loads of gadgets available for budding oenophiles, but most concentrate on the opening of a bottle or preserving its contents rather than attempting to improve its flavour. It basically takes the long established, SLOW process of decanting and turns it on its head, by speeding it up from the moment you uncork your favourite tipple and pour it through the device.Such was my scepticism that I set up my own experiment to test its claims by pouring three glasses of a nice seven year old bordeaux, one through the vinturi, the other straight from the bottle and the final one after traditional decanting (note two bottles used). I then asked my good lady (not a wine snob btw) to try all three. The verdict was that the vinturi and traditional decanting exhibited significantly better bouquet and were much smoother on the palate and finish, than the immediately poured sample. As the resident family wine snob I had to agree, so no more opening the bottle three hours in advance of drinking for me, although I'll still use my decanter, but only after I've poured the wine through the vinturi first! One other thing I've found is that the effects are much better observed on younger reds than good aged ones because of the generally harsher tannins in the former. As such this will go a long way to making the supermarket 'impulse buy' taste twice as good for everyday drinking. It comes beautifully packaged and whilst I originally thought it was made of glass, on closer inspection it appears to be made of a dense, clear plastic, that it claims is dishwasher proof- bonus! The pack also contains a removable filter basket, a stand and nice faux suede pouch so that you can take it to the restaurant, or a friends house to show off its gadget genius and gain some extra kudos ;o) The stand is a really nice weighty item and marries up well with the rubberised coating on the vinturi to hold it securely in place when not in use.Overall if you love wine, or know someone who is a wine lover then this item is up there with a good lever type corkscrew in terms of its effectiveness at doing the job it is designed for and would make an ideal gift.Ok it's expensive but as a great anonymous wine lover once said- 'Life's too short to drink bad wine'

This is really a great product. As a wine enthusiast I have always been a bit cautious reading about "magic" solutions such as this and to be honest I only really tried it on a whimsy. However I was happy to find that this really does change the taste of wine for the better; and not just grape wines but home made elderberry wine and (real) Somerset cider as well. There is a chemistry at work here although it is so subtle and hidden perhaps it should be called alchemy. The Vinturi doesn't add or take anything away from them wine. Rather its clever construction ensures that wine poured through it will receive the correct amount of air it needs to open its aromas and allow us to embrace its flavour. In a sense this is nothing that a good hour in a decanter wont do, however the Vinturi does it on demand. This is great as I do not always want to drink an entire bottle of wine in one go, and I might just drink a glass of wine, seal up the bottle then return to it the next evening - I don't want to air the whole bottle in one go as it will soon reach and then pass its best point; With Vinturi I can keep the bottle sealed and drink as I go.I know that some some reviews complained that it drips, but really this is not a problem. If you imagine that the Vinturi is basically a clever and convoluted funnel, of course filling it with a liquid will leave some reside, a slight shake clears this up.The Vinturi is very easy to use. As I said, think of it as a cleverly and precisely shaped funnel, you put the end over your glass and pour wine in the top. If you pour gentlely there are no issues of spillage at all. The Vinturi will gargle as it sucks in air and mixes it with the wine but in return will give you a lovely perfectly aired glass of wine.I couldn't recommend this highly enough it is great, makes wine taste so much nicer and is now an essential part of my kit making it as essential as a corkscrew.

I drink quite a bit of Wine, but never Red - that is until I discovered one particular type that I did like, and so as an Amazon Vine Reviewer, I thought I would be able to try this out - as it's for use with Red Wine only.We had to wait before we could test it, because my Partner - not being much of a Wine Drinker at all (any kind that is) coupled with my only drinking White or Rose as a rule, took us until Christmas before we could experiment with this. But, I have to say; having tried it, though my Partner was not that impressed - I liked it!Unfortunately, we'd mistakenly purchased some Red Wine that we 'thought' was the only one that I'd recently discovered that I liked, but it turned out to be some other that I didn't... But here's the good news; using this 'gadget' did improve the flavour enough for me to actually drink it, and so this must mean something!Having now experienced such a change in the flavour from something I didn't like at all to something I found quite 'palatable', I'm guessing with extreme confidence that to use this marvellous gadget with the Red Wine I already like, would almost certainly improve it's texture, flavour and quality further still! This Item comes in a lovely glossy box that would make someone an ideal gift, a beautifully designed Product, and looks extremely good quality! At first glance, it may seem a little 'pricey', but if you like gadgets, and like your gadgets to really work (and let's face it; most never do what they claim to) then this is for you!A great quality Product!

Ok, I'll admit it - I was VERY sceptical regarding this little gadget but I have to say I was very impressed! The Vinturi Wine Aerator does what it says on the tin - it aerates red wine. Rather than leaving bottles open to breathe, you just pour the wine through the Aerator and, as it flows through, air is drawn in through narrow tubes, efficiently aerating the wine as it goes from bottle to glass. So cynical was I that I compared it with running wine through a funnel into the glass and yes, the Aerator does a better job of aerating the wine that just pouring the wine into the glass through a funnel! The Aerator is beautifully presented in a black box and comes with a neat little stand to keep it on in the drinks cabinet. There is also a suede-effect pochette, that I'm not entirely sure of the purpose of. Perhaps if you want to take it with you to a function in your pocket? Who knows! Additionally, there is a little metal filter that you can either hold over the bottom of the Aerator (tricky) or slip into the top of the Aerator (easier option) to remove debris from the wine whilst aerating it - I found this very useful indeed. The entire Aerator is very well made from heavy glass and is very stylish, especially when sitting in its little black stand.I would highly recommend this for anyone who (like me) enjoys a nice glass of wine but cannot be doing with waiting for it to breathe. Would make an ideal gift - particularly for the sort of person who already seems to have everything.

The Vinturi Aerator really is as good as it claims to be. I purchased one for my Father's birthday and he was delighted with it. the device is solid and well made and comes in a very elegant box, making it all the better for giving as a gift.In use, it makes a rasping, bubbling noise as the wine flows though, which is quite entertaining, and not too loud. It has a good solid little base to sit it in at the table when not in use. The early feedback from my wine loving Father is that it definitely freshens up the taste from a just opened bottle. The only downside is that I foolishly bought this from Amazon and not elsewhere. After 4 days and no delivery (paid for, not supersaver)I phoned Amazon and they said they were still calling the item in from another country and could not dispatch it to me for another two days! I told them the item said IN STOCK on its order page, but they insist it was "in stock, just in another country" and although they were delayed in posting it out to me by a week, this was not a problem (never mind my father's birthday) and refused to refund my postage.A one off? Sadly not, this is the third time in a row I have bought an Amazon item listed as In Stock and they have not had it available to post for over a week.As for the Aerator? Very happy, I just wish I had bought it from somewhere else.

With a velvet pouch, stylish design (especially in its nifty stand) and classy packaging, the aerator is certainly an attractive little gadget. It's solid bulb of clear plastic with rubber details that fills the hand satisfyingly. But does it work? We decided on a taste test: a bottle of McGuigan Shiraz 2007 - good wine but not the best in the world. First, we had a mouthful poured straight from the bottle. It was fine. Then we poured it through the aerator. To be honest, it sounds like a slightly blocked plughole, or someone gargling enthusiastically. The wine goes through the contraption quickly enough. And then the taste. I'd be lying if I said it was an astonishing transformation, and I don't think it would turn plonk into vintage. However, there was an appreciable difference. The wine was fresher, a bit lighter - the flavour was more settled, more balanced. The first mouthful had a slight edge, and the aerator smoothed it away. We finished the bottle, and each glass was just as satisfying. The wine aerator is probably not something that every home should have, but anyone with more than a passing interest in wine will probably use it a lot. With Christmas approaching, I can imagine oenophiles will be happy to find this in their stocking.

"What can I get the man who has everything?" asked my younger brother coming up to my birthday. At this point, I did wonder who he was talking about. Winding forward and the present turned out to be a Vinturi. We quickly poured some good red into a glass and some more into another glass through the Vinturi (can you tell I am a techie..?). The Vinturi sample tasted smooth and rich, while the straight from the bottle tasted good, but definitely rougher.Talking about life, the universe and birthday presents wiled away about 20 minutes or so and we tasted the 2 glasses again. This time the from the bottle wine had caught up, not quite as smooth, but the air definitely had an effect.Since then I have also used the Vinturi on more red and also port (the handy mesh strainer removing traces of sediment to good effect) and again, smooth, rich flavour straight away.Downsides, if any, come into play after use when you have to rinse the device out or place it back in it's handy little stand to drip there. All in all, a great birthday present and one that will get much use. Thinking of buying them for some of my relatives for Xmas I am so impressed.

My wife bought me this for Christmas two years ago and it has been a fantastic little device. It’s perfect for my needs as often I fancy red wine on an evening but on a spur of the moment, often I don’t have the foresight to open a bottle and allow it to breathe for an hour or so before drinking. With the Vinturi you simply pour your red wine through the aerator into your glass (it will make an odd noise but you do get used to it). The result is the taste of wine as if it has been left to breathe; most improved are young red wines that are high in tannins, they really become much smoother and softer having gone through the Vinturi. My friends and I did a taste test, with wine ‘a’ and wine ‘b’,the wine that clearly tasted better and had a better aroma thankfully was the aerated one! This was a lovely gift to receive, and also very useful. To clean I simply rinse mine thoroughly under warm running water and leave it to dry naturally. When not in use the aerator sits quietly and discreetly on top of our wine rack. A handy device that I would recommend to any fellow red wine drinkers.

As many have said this thing works using the well known venturi principle! Okay not that well known. I was surprised that the difference is so marked. Have done a few blind tests but it is not difficult to pick out the aerated wine. Have tried it on red, white and also cognac. Effect on red is obvious, on white - hmm not a lot of difference that I could tell (on a chilled white that had been already opened from the fridge), on cognac - again I was pleasantly surprised at the difference. Much smoother more mellow instantly through this thing, despite this being on a cognac that had been open for a couple of weeks since Xmas. Of course you could do the same thing by aerating red wine into a decanter, but this needs a bit of advanced planning. I intend to take this around to friends which is much easier and quite frankly they might be a bit intimidated by me suggesting they decant their wines, but with this it's a bit of fun (that works). It is slightly expensive, but it feels very solid and even the stand feels like a quality item.

I got this as a Christmas present and it was trialled within hours of being unwrapped. I've used it several times since and I have to say it really works! The ultimate test has to be a blind tasting. My guinea pig was my wife who does not normally like red wine. I decanted a bottle an hour earlier without using the Vinturi and let it breathe.I then opened a new bottle and poured a glass with and a glass without this device. My wife was presented with three glasses. She chose the glass poured directly from the bottle and with a grimace of horror spat the wine back into the glass. She tried the other two glasses one of which (in her opinion was very slightly better. So the result of the experiment was fairly conclusive, you can decant and wait or invest £25 and cut out the wait. Oh I also tried decanting the wine twice through the device to no real effect, so in conclusion it does what it does first time, BRILLIANT! My wife even had a second glass, result!

I was looking for a present for my other half (male) and thought that I was out of any surprise options when I saw this. He loves his red wine and uses a decanter when friends come round and we get out the "good stuff". This was really s surprise as he didn't know of it's existence but was more than happy to put it to the test. From the picture and as he usually decants red wine that is what I thought the Vinturi Wine Aerator was for, but the first glass of wine to put it to the test was a rather nice white wine on Christmas Day. He poured one small glass through the Aerator and one from bottle to glass and then cautiously tasted them. The aerated glass won and he insisted on blind tasting the family, which we were very much up for. To my amazement everyone declared a noticeable difference and all preferred the Vinturi. All over Christmas when we drank wine, we put it through the Vinturi first and now it is an essential in the kitchen.

Personally I don't drink wine, but I bought this gift for my friend who does and he loves it.Since few people know such things exist, this is a wonderful surprise gift. The type of gift that is first met by confused looks, then later met with much merriment as your friend congratulates you on your present finding abilities. It's also a great talking point at parties as you show your guests how to use it and what it does.My friend described it by saying "it turns a £10 bottle of wine into a £30 bottle" due to the aerators abilities of bringing out the flavours of the tipple. The only drawback is the gurgling sound the device makes.Although this never bothered my friend as it added to the mystique of the aerator and made him feel it was actually doing lots of magical work.If you're looking for a gift for a friend who likes wine, or if you want something to quickly bring out the flavours, then you should definitely buy this.

This product has many benefits. Firstly and primarily it aerates the wine quickly and is definitely noticeable in the flavour. A handy little stand to sit in once used and as many other reviewers have acknowledged the sound is rather amusing if you are a tad childish. Which I am. It sounded like it was farting. Giggle. More pertinently it limits the alcoholism of my other half by slowing down her intake. Rather than plopping a straw or funnel (depending on mood) into a bottle of wine to drown her sorrows of living with a man-child she now insists on using this tool which means she is only pouring a glass at a time. As a result this means her consumption or at least the rate of consumption decreases leaving me with a)chance of getting a glass b.) she falls into a slow drunken stupor rather than quickly getting inebriated. I find this increases her tolerance to my (and the dogs) constant attention seeking. All round win.
